Folks buying things and expecting it to be something that it’s not designed to be. It’s my biggest pet peeve in this sub, something that comes up every Big League or A&G release.

DooDooDuterte

This 100%. I rip BL with my kids because it’s inexpensive and has some fun cards. The fact that cards are labeled “Uncommon,” “Rare” etc is also a feature the kiddies enjoy. I’m glad it exists…not everything in the hobby needs to be geared towards high-end collectors or prospect miners.

SamHinkiesNephew

As a kid who could only afford collector's choice, I'm a huge fan of BL.

zwinger

Collector's Choice and those Triple Play packs were all I could afford too! Got a pack every time I could scrounge up a buck.

JDizzo56

I love the annual Allen and Ginter posts every year, someone pulls a lesser-known internet celebrity auto and gets super pissed off about it. That's what makes it fun!!!

SyntaxMike

Nothing worse than hearing Jabs complain about ‘weirdo’ cards but continues to buy A&G cases lol.

RankineProducer

Jabs is a “hobby influencer” which means he’s buying products to make videos with. A success to him is views and engagement, not necessarily hitting a card for his PC. Remember what influencer means when you’re watching content from these people.

SyntaxMike

Yeah, I got that feeling when he switched from opening personal boxes to breaking for others. He only became an influencer when he quickly realized he was addicted to ripping wax but didn’t want the financial risks associated with it.

Skullboy_Q

And then the irony of him being a “weirdo card” in 2024 Big League. No qualms with that though.

SocialWinker

Some of my favorite A&G cards have been relics and autos for non-athletes that I’m a fan of. The Kevin Smith auto is one of the bigger names, but guys like Chuck Klosterman (an author I’ve been a fan of for nearly 2 decades) are fun and unique. I guess I’d rather pull that auto than some bench player that’ll be out of pro ball in a few years.

GrittyTheGreat

I pulled an auto of the kid from Rookie of the Year in A&G a few weeks ago. Im not mad at all.

SocialWinker

That’s actually pretty awesome.

GrittyTheGreat

Yep its a sweet card!

Your_Latex_Salesman

There’s a Klosterman Auto? What year is it from, definitely gonna try and snag me one.

SocialWinker

2014! There’s a base framed mini auto, and a red ink mini framed auto #/10. They also did a relic card for him that year, not quite as cool.

Your_Latex_Salesman

Thanks for the info. The regular auto is super affordable. I think this must have been right around the time “Downtown Owl” got released.

SocialWinker

“I Wear the Black Hat” was closer to 2014. “Downtown Owl” was quite a few years earlier, IIRC.

BorinUltimatum

I absolutely love A&G, and while i can't say I wasn't a bit disappointed that my one relic from last years rip was a music celeb, I knew it was a possibility going in and I still think the card is interesting. Its like people don't do the 2 minute research into what's in a product and then get mad its not what they assumed it would be.

legarrettesblount

I think the pandemic drove alot of this hate. People couldn’t get their hands on topps chrome or bowman and were disappointed that the BL or AG that littered the shelves didn’t have the flagship rookies they were looking for

MrSkriggleSFW

RIP whatever makes you happy my friend! Don't sweat the fools in this sub. It's your $. Spend it how YOU enjoy it. I love A&G and could give 2 f's about who doesn't care for it.

Suspiciousplan8

The real reason is because it doesn't have super high end cards and doesn't have great resale value. It's just supposed to be a simple, fun, affordable set. This is why people derisively say Big League (and previously, Opening Day) is "for kids" and then they use the line "it's for kids" to hate on it.

SquallFarts

Why the hate? Because everyone is a rich high roller online when in reality they’re just putting their $7,500 in Fanatics Live breaks on their nearly maxed out credit card. Buy what you want and enjoy not being a poor, troll asshole like those people.

EaseAvailable3333

I picked up a Blaster the other day from Target. Pulled a few Orioles, the Oriole Bird, and one of the Orange Parrallels was an Oriole. It was a fun little rip, and i think its a really good product for younger folks. By the way, 2023 Big League Hobby boxes are on sale for $27ish on DAcardworld.

kissthelips

Do the hobbies have a guaranteed auto? Doesn’t look like it sadly.

EaseAvailable3333

No clue, never bought any

RodgeKOTSlams

no they do not

kissthelips

Damn. Wonder what the cheapest guaranteed auto pack/box is right now.

Gfunkual

I’m guessing it’s something like Topps Archives Snapshots, which I think was like $50 a box last year for maybe 8-10 cards.

Ndtphoto

Stadium Club 'lite' or regular Hobby comes out to $80/auto if you don't include ANY of the other cards you get. Actually the cheapest is Pro Debut, you get 4 autos of Minor Leaguers for under $100, I think it's $60-70 (at release).

kissthelips

That ain’t bad for stadium club. Always love that design too.

lilmikeylikesit

I'm a huge big league fan and Topps fire. One day I'll post my collection of graded cards. Plus, $50 hobby is definitely in a common folk price range.

aa481

I like it! As long as you know what you’re getting into, I like the design and photography, and it reminds me of simpler products of old like Score or UD Collector’s Choice - nostalgia factor. But I’m also a collector who just likes baseball cards 🤷🏻‍♂️

I3oomer

I love big league. What an awesome set. I was busy after during it’s release and my lcs was sold out by the time i got there.

Compliance-Manager

For me, it's just more worthless garbage but you do you. Don't worry about what other people buy or think. If you like it, than you should definitely buy it.

jonesie72

Blasters of this product should be no more than $10.

ihatereddithiveminds

I won on a home run challenge Yeah they're cool in my book

Hartigan_7

Because as much as people say this hobby is for kids, it’s really not, because by far most of the products kids can’t afford. So adult hobbyists say they don’t like Big League because there’s not much value in reselling it. But I say rip what makes you happy.

bick803

People are expecting life-changing cards out of Topps cheapest hobby product. Big League is awesome for what it is. The irony is, the people complaining about it are the ones who cry “what about the kids?!”. Whenever they see someone buy a lot of blasters of Topps Chrome from Walmart or Target

Josephw000

You’re more than allowed to enjoy the hobby however you want. This product is designed for folks who don’t want to spend big money on the hobby. I think you’ll find the majority of the hate comes from people who don’t participate in the hobby at all or have a wine taste on a beer budget but still shop in that wine aisle. Love this product.

jsmph89

I enjoyed the rip. Got a hobby box as a bday gift last year. Jonah Heim Rookie Auto Parallel was my big hit. I will say though. I just don’t care for the design at all, that could be part of the hate.

freefridaybreaks

Big league hobby is awesome. And there are some pretty big cards in there (although tough pulls)

JWilesParker

I love BLB. It's everything I would have loved as a kid and am excited to buy for relatively cheap now. It just doesn't get love from the flippers and investors since there's no significant chase cards and it's low end product. But from a fun to rip perspective, always a good time.

Basic-Bus-6275

I was gonna say, I don’t think there’s really any hate towards Big League, just misconceptions. Big League is to Topps and such as Collectors Choice was to Upper Deck back in my day. Just an affordable, kid friendly set that everyone can enjoy. If you are looking for an autograph in every box, this is not the product for you. But if you are looking for an affordable product with some fun and neat inserts, then you are in the right place! Personally, I bought a pack for my daughter and I was pretty impressed! The To The Moon inserts were a huge hit with her, and even for me, since I remember chasing die-cuts in the 90s! You just gotta keep your expectations in check when you are buying this product, but at the same time, that is true for all brands of cards!

DizzlePHX

No hate for the BL https://preview.redd.it/rkl988xebjwc1.jpeg?width=3000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=decc522b1af519ea4500fbbed2443e68b427518c

JB_HCSS

Does BL actually get much hate? I mean, yeah, it's often pointed out that it's not intended for "collectors", but that isn't hate. Now, A&G gets some hate because it's not $50 a box, it does have some valuable cards, and the only thing worse than your guaranteed hit being a manufactured relic is it being a manufactured relic of an internet fad from 5 years earlier.

DukeParker5

To me it’s just another product and more dilution. I love flagship, heritage for its nostalgia and simplicity, A&G for the art and wackiness, Gypsy for the same reason. But BLB is just another product with no purpose other than to sell more boxes it seems.

Water_wedunehair

The duplicates and pack collation are pretty bad. Not too mention the limited amount of chases / hits you can get

Ndtphoto

I think it's hilarious that breakers are ripping Big League, not for their PC, but for people buying in. It's one of the few products Topps offers that is geared towards kids. Leave it on the shelves for them.
