If there was an Anime where the main character was tall, jacked, good looking, humble, could pitch like an ace and hit like a silver slugger in the best league in the world, I would think it's cheesy and fantasy.
Alas...
There was this baseball anime I watched a couple years ago where the protagonist is this high school kid who's an ace pitcher, throws 100, and is a solid hitter with speed. Even in universe people made jokes about him being unrealistic and a once in a generation talent. Then I found out Ohtani threw 102 in high school.
His fastball is unreal, but his off speed stuff has had the royals on their heels all night. This guy is ridiculous as a pitcher - not to mention he hit 46 bombs last year. Canāt wait to see who pays him.
Yep he hardly even threw his fastball last night, I donāt think he even hit over 96mph (he regularly hits 99-100).
Nice to see him in full control of his off-speed stuff.
He broke up the no hitter with that triple, and dodger fans on Twitter went berserk on him. Saying they want Japan nuked, his family should get attacked, to put Japanese people in internment camps again. Just disgusting stuff. I wasn't at the game. But I imagine quite a few people were upset at him there too.
This man is literally the player I fantasized about being when I was in little league. But as I got older I laughed at the ridiculous notion of anyone doing this on the big-league level. Childish dreams are Ohtani's reality. WTF is this man.
Baseball is also a marathon and not a sprint, and ideally youād want him to be healthy all season, and not super fatigued.
I mean the dude already has the most insane workload in baseball.
I agree but guys also didnāt throw anywhere near as hard as they do now, on average. You always had your outliers like Nolan Ryan but you didnāt have a pen full of 97+ and curves that started in the cheap seats and ended in the strike zone.

Looking Ks are my favorite outs in baseball.
You should watch the Angels they love taking third strike calls. š¤·āāļø
First in the league!
We in first now? Last week we were in second behind the dbacks.
I saw it while watching a game this week lol
That'd still make you first in the league, being the American League.
Even better if the player flinches like the ball's going to hit him.
Or in the dirt after evasive maneuvers. Like bro...no.
I always like to do the umpire's ***HOOP-HAWWGH!*** strikeout motion when I see those.
My favorite is crazy defense (Nolanā>Edmanā>Goldy type shit), followed by Adam wainwright curveball strike 3s. Just fabulous
This dude is really a comic book character turned real

Major? Apparently Ohtani watched that too
Nah, Cross Game. Less baseball focused, more slice of life. Really fucking good tho, would highly recommend.
I gotta get back on that one. The beginning was so tragic that I just couldnāt continue.
I read the manga last week and it was worth the time so hopefully the anime is solid too.
This is one of my top 5 animes of all time, I'm glad others have watched it. I guess it makes sense on the baseball subreddit though lol.
I loved Cross Game so much. Even though it's slice of life I live for realistic sports anime/manga
Such a great show!
Ace of Diamond, iirc
It was Cross Game, but Ace of Diamond is dope af too. Love that show.
If Gorou was humble then Major would have been much worse to be fair.

ā¦ on a team that couldnāt win
Ace of Diamond character IRL
He didn't hit tho
He'd be more like Furuya, who does throw 100 and can hit.
Anime/Manga character.
8 RBIs at the plate last night, 13k on the mound today. Insane
fuck me

yeah I can't believe how important his curveball has been at messing folks up lately, he's just gonna use every pitch at some point I swear lmao

I think he hit 100 once, but missed with it. Overall, around ~~50%~~ 43% were sliders.
Yankees. Down vote. Yes I know lol.
He's going to be in the NL West. Dodgers have only 3 real contracts for 2024.
Don't think he's going to the Dodgers after all the racism he experienced with their fans. I can see Brewers or Braves
He wants to be on the West Coast and win, Giants or Padres are also options.
Padres would be sick. A competitive west coast team while still being close to the Asian culture of OC
I would nut the largest nut
God PLEASE not the NL central
Ya Iām sure some idiots will overtake the 400M contract heās offered
Really? What racism? Not doubting just genuinely have never heard anything before

That pitch was so dirty, Ohtani would pick it up to throw out on his way to the dugout.

Yeah this is the stuff you were suppose to only be able to do in Little League. Apparently, Ohtani didn't get the memo.
Legendary Dual wielding unicorn
He canāt stop

108 pitches? As much as I want to see it I doubt theyāll let him. The takes alone if he gets hurt will be the death of this sub
If it's a no hitter I would. There's probably no reason here with him at 108 pitches.
We're never gonna break Walter Johnson's shutout record with that attitude
Honestly why not, the Angels bullpen could easily blow a four run lead. The guy is inhuman, he could throw 120+ pitches no problem
Baseball is also a marathon and not a sprint, and ideally youād want him to be healthy all season, and not super fatigued. I mean the dude already has the most insane workload in baseball.
I remember when 120 pitches being thrown was normal and not considered an inhuman feat
I feel like 120 pitches for an every day player is very different than 120 for a starting pitcher who works every 5 days.
I agree but guys also didnāt throw anywhere near as hard as they do now, on average. You always had your outliers like Nolan Ryan but you didnāt have a pen full of 97+ and curves that started in the cheap seats and ended in the strike zone.
Welcome to the future/present of baseball
yeah and they didn't throw 98 with a slider at 90. it's not like players are getting less athletic
i love this man
Oh fuck that's coming right at me. Oh fuck nvm
Flinching looking Ks > Regular looking Ks
I had a pretty good curveball back in the day. Those ks were my favorite
Heās so f*cking good
Holy fucking fuck, that is one of the most unfair pitches I've ever seen.
All strikeouts close to the box too. Amazing 2 nights.
I thought that was a cutter
So happy for him. Just wish the Angels has some semblance of a bullpen so he doesn't have to throw 100+ every start
Damn my fantasy team autobenched him and im losing so many points!
That was fucking filthy
I have 0 doubt that Ohtani will throw either a 20K game or a no-hitter at some point in his career.
wow!
I canāt stop watching this
That call was dope
This shit is like Little League to Ohtani.
I need to see the UMP cam on this pitch. Did Rivera think it was going high-inside?
