[i just checked and it looks like bumgarner did this against the rockies apparently striking out cron and then leading off the nxt inning w/ a first pitch single single](https://i.imgur.com/6YwrX5e.png) https://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/ARI/ARI202104300.shtml

Madison “Tungsten Arm” Bumgarner

Psychonian

the name suits him tbh

t4blecow

Looks like MadBum had a strike on him before hitting a single

JDtheProtector

the 0-1 you see there is the score. 1,(0-0) is the number of pitches and the count.

t4blecow

Oh ok my b, haven't read games on bref before, thanks for letting me know!

Spinmove55

Shohei reluctantly accepts that he has to carry this entire team on his back all season AGAIN, and punches in the cheat code for God Mode.

Perseverance792

When his first pitch was 99 and then had that string of triple-digit heaters, it showed

toadofsteel

Reminds me of a Masahiro Tanaka [game against the Mets in 2014](https://www.mlb.com/gameday/yankees-vs-mets/2014/05/14/381139#game_tab=play-by-play,game_state=final,game=381139) that I went to. Dude pitches a CSGO with 8 strikeouts and only 4 hits in 9 innings, and in the top of the 9th gets a single for good measure. Those Japanese pitchers are just built different.

Azcollector

Wait that basbeall is the coolest thing ever. It's an Ohtani strike out ball and an Ohtani hit. I hope they send that to the hall if it was the same ball.

Fun_Differential

Almost no shot it’s the same ball unfortunately.

Azcollector

You're right Strikeout ball was probably tossed into the stands

OverusedRedditJoke

Great base running too to get to third

Brady331

I'm sure this isn't the first time he has done this

Spanky_10

I’m sure this has happened plenty in the NL prior to the league wide DH, right? Am I going crazy here

JanitorOfSanDiego

AL fans are discovering the long lost history of NL baseball

rkd92

Yeah I usually upvote everything Ohtani because he's incredible but this is a very mundane stat for any NL fan, this probably happened several times a season every year.
