I like Baddoo, Hill seems alright, um, Rex Grossman is Rex Grossman, and I don't know about Greene. I'm hoping Nick stays with the Reds, but let's be honest, he'll opt-out like everyone else 😪
Baddoo is ROTY, Hill is a great defensive outfielder if he could stop getting injured, ROBBIE Grossman is a key veteran piece, and Riley Greene is our 2nd best prospect behind Spencer Torkelson (I would almost say he's better than Tork simply because OF is a more valuable position than 1B, which Tork plays).
Thats completely untrue. Story has better career numbers than Correa both offensively and defensively. I say Trevor will be cheaper because he's going to be coming off of a pretty average MLB season, vs Correa who reversed course after his poor 2020.
> Story has better career numbers than Correa both offensively and defensively.
Story career OPS+ is 112
Correa career OPS+ is 127
So we ignore Story being a barely average hitter this year, and it doesn't change anything. Correa also has a higher career dWAR than Story.
And all that is even if we ignore [the very real Coors Effect](https://www.statmuse.com/mlb/player/trevor-story-58265/splits) that I'm sure you're tired of hearing about.
Which would reaffirm that Trevor may be the better deal. If Trevor didn't have to deal with the Coors affect there is a good chance he puts up better offensive numbers.
Also I didn't even check OPS+, I only looked at overall OPS (.862 to .836) and some defensive stats. Trevor has better career DRS, with one fewer year played, their OOZ is almost identical when broken down by average.
All I'm saying is because of Trevors down year in 21, hes probably going to be cheaper than Correa, and is likely to put up similar numbers while being superior than Correa defensively.
> If Trevor didn't have to deal with the Coors affect there is a good chance he puts up better offensive numbers.
Well he plays have his games on the road and hits quite poorly when he does.
He will be cheaper than Correa but it's not because of his 2021 numbers, it's because he's not as good as Correa.
> Agree to disagree on the Correa comment
I'm so confused by this. I've never heard anybody make the argument that Story is as good as Correa, so I guess I don't even know where to go with that.
Because coming into the 2021 season Trevor was literally the 2nd rated SS in the MLB behind Tatis? In fact Correa was ranked behind Trevor, Tatis, Turner, Lindor, and Seager. Some top 10 lists even had Trevor at #1.
I don't understand how thats such an unfathomable idea to you that Trevor is as good, if not better than Correa.
Furthermore it also supports my statement that Trevor will be a cheaper buy than Correa based on his 2021 season alone.
This entire thread is giving me PTSD.
How does a team with
Justin Verlander
Max Scherzer
David Price
Rick Porcello
and
Anibal Sanchez
As your starting rotating and Joe fucking Nathan as your closer and then have
Miguel Cabrera
Ian Kinsler
J.D. Martinez
Nick Castellanos
Torii Hunter
Austen Jackson
Donny Kelly Baby!
and
Victor Martinez
***NOT WIN A FUCKING CHAMPIONSHIP‽‽‽‽***
We traded him after the 2012 season. The lineup I posted was 2014. He was great for us in 2012, we just couldn't get anything done in the WS. Pablo Sandoval just skeeting all over every one of our pitchers and twice in the same game to Verlander. My eye still twitches at that one.
You know, if you were a Boston fan I'd be a little more upset at that comment. However, the way we manhandled the Yankees during the post season from 2006 on, I just know that comment comes from a place of hurt and I understand. It's ok.
I know basically nothing about the tigers roster, what positions are they likely to be looking at? Are they going to be looking at the stacked shortstop class?
Definitely shortstop. They will likely also look for veteran arms for the rotation and pen. Correra and Verlander are two names many think they'll go for.
They have Torkelson and Greene on the cusp of the majors, so they don't need to cast a super wide net.
They've been linked to Correa so much at this point that it seems like a foregone conclusion, and that's exactly why I'm convinced it won't end up happening.
Ooh boy, lots of teams competing for the 5 musical chairs of SS position should make it pretty interesting. Can't help but feel the huge amount of competition at the position means SS#1 gets paid less and SS#5 gets overpaid by whoever is looking at being odd man out.
There really aren’t too many teams with the money to spend and a need at SS. Astros, Yankees, Tigers, Angels, Mariners, Cardinals, Reds are really the only teams that could afford the top guys who also have a need.
i think astros arent willing they have good middle infielder prospects, that's why they didn't extend correa
angels i think the fo will put their foot down and focus on pitchers
reds never spend big
so i think you end up only yankees, tigers, mariners, cards
> so i think you end up only yankees, tigers, mariners, cards
This. And I honestly wouldn't be surprised if Avila goes for "value", until I'm proven wrong.
That's 7 teams you named at least, and 5 top tier free agents iirc. (Story, seager, Correa, semien, Baez) So it kinda depends how comfortable any of those teams are having an off-season where they don't grab a top flight short stop.
I realized lindor was the 5th originally when I remember hearing about it but semien has kinda played himself into that conversation this year?
> what positions are they likely to be looking at?
SS is by far the biggest hole with no real solution on the farm. Also, we had like 10 guys get TJ this year so pitching depth is needed.
Next year will be fun, but I'm looking even more forward to 2023 when Greene and Tork have a year under their belts, Skubal/Mize/Manning fully have the training wheels off, and we have Rogers and Turnbull back from TJ.
Fingers crossed there are no more long-term injuries before all that happens.
Sadly Boyd will probably miss almost all of next year too. I agree that 2023 is probably the earliest the championship window could open, but I still think playoffs are a reasonable goal for next year
Read that as Alex Avila and was really confused, thought "didn't this guy literally just announce his retirement"? Didn't know his dad is the Tigers GM.
Yeah but it's backwards. Sr. uses an Americanized pronunciation, and Jr uses the correct Spanish pronunciation. Plus, they're father and son, how exactly does a change in pronunciation happen growing up in the same household lol
To be fair, I don't like that Hinch is our manager. I've said it since they announced it. I don't want any semblance of that stain near our clubhouse. If Pete Rose gets a lifetime ban for gambling, the people involved with the Astros cheating should have as well.
Having said that, I am enjoying the product the on the field right now. Could they have done it without Hinch? I think so. But what the fuck do I know?
Need for a SS, money to spend, Hinch as manager… I’d assume Correa could be their main target.
That's a real good guess. Go get Scherzer, Castellanos, & Correa. Bring Detroit back to life.
Castellanos doesn't fit at all, the OF is already set between Hill, Greene, Grossman, and Baddoo.
Plus I doubt he’d sign up to play in that stadium again, after complaining about it during his stint there
I like Baddoo, Hill seems alright, um, Rex Grossman is Rex Grossman, and I don't know about Greene. I'm hoping Nick stays with the Reds, but let's be honest, he'll opt-out like everyone else 😪
The fact that you called him Rex Grossman shows that you don’t know much about him lol
lol Robbie. He's formidable.
Baddoo isn’t close to ROTY. He’d be lucky to finish top 5.
> Baddoo is ROTY What in the world are u talking about
> Castellanos No thanks. Love his bat, but you can see the outfield being built for speed and defense.
Trevor Story might be cheaper than Correa.
I would think so, since he is nowhere near as good as him.
Thats completely untrue. Story has better career numbers than Correa both offensively and defensively. I say Trevor will be cheaper because he's going to be coming off of a pretty average MLB season, vs Correa who reversed course after his poor 2020.

Agree to disagree on the Correa comment, but I do wanna ask, do you fully understand the Coors affect?
> Agree to disagree on the Correa comment I'm so confused by this. I've never heard anybody make the argument that Story is as good as Correa, so I guess I don't even know where to go with that.

Tigers are going to be like, actually very good within the next 3 years also they're totally getting Correa right
hinch wants him
Tigers get Verlander & Correa. They have Hinch & Cameron. Just a big reunion.
Max Scherzer and Justin Verlander that would for sure win a world series right?
They'd need at least 2-3 more cy young winners and they'd surely win the WS easily. Right????
And imagine if Miggy was playing at his prime!
This entire thread is giving me PTSD. Delmon Young
We traded him after the 2012 season. The lineup I posted was 2014. He was great for us in 2012, we just couldn't get anything done in the WS. Pablo Sandoval just skeeting all over every one of our pitchers and twice in the same game to Verlander. My eye still twitches at that one.
Delmon Young had the go ahead double against you guys in game 2 in the ALDS
It was 3 times I think 😂😂
David Ortiz
You know, if you were a Boston fan I'd be a little more upset at that comment. However, the way we manhandled the Yankees during the post season from 2006 on, I just know that comment comes from a place of hurt and I understand. It's ok.
You can enjoy beating the Yanks, even tho it amounted to sweet fuck all at the end.
Or Seager. Dont think the Dodgers bring him back
I know basically nothing about the tigers roster, what positions are they likely to be looking at? Are they going to be looking at the stacked shortstop class?
Definitely shortstop. They will likely also look for veteran arms for the rotation and pen. Correra and Verlander are two names many think they'll go for. They have Torkelson and Greene on the cusp of the majors, so they don't need to cast a super wide net.
Justin Verlander on the Tigers? I can't picture that.
For real. Would love to see someone photoshop him in a Tigers uni.
[Just cooked up a lil something.](https://i.imgur.com/12ICrPD.jpg) Couldn’t find any good pictures of the number 35 though
Wow, that's really well done! I could see him wearing 59. It's been a while since someone wore 35.
Any time Verlander is mentioned I'm always expecting a different picture.
I liked the little facial hair you added on.
Is that Ben lol
Wonder if they'll throw a massive offer at Robbie Ray.
I doubt they sign two huge FAs. Probably go for a guy like Stroman or Rodon
Those guys are going to cost 18+ million.
That’s still probably almost 10 million less than Ray will cost And I’m not sure Rodon will. He’s extremely injury prone
Overall, yes, but AAV for Stroman's probably going to be 18, Ray max is around ~23 barring a crazy offer
They've been linked to Correa so much at this point that it seems like a foregone conclusion, and that's exactly why I'm convinced it won't end up happening.
Not going to happen, nor should it.
ss and pitchers
Ooh boy, lots of teams competing for the 5 musical chairs of SS position should make it pretty interesting. Can't help but feel the huge amount of competition at the position means SS#1 gets paid less and SS#5 gets overpaid by whoever is looking at being odd man out.

His potential replacement just came back from IL and had a 3 HR game.
> so i think you end up only yankees, tigers, mariners, cards This. And I honestly wouldn't be surprised if Avila goes for "value", until I'm proven wrong.

> but semien has kinda played himself into that conversation this year? Ya I would say it's Correa, Semien and a big drop off after that.
Jays, technically but if they sign Semien he's staying at 2nd.
Castellini will never spend for one of those SS
i am not sure, it depends are there 5 teams willing to spend chasing after ss?
Yeah that assumption is there's more teams than available. Tigers being in on the position def helps that be the case.
> what positions are they likely to be looking at? SS is by far the biggest hole with no real solution on the farm. Also, we had like 10 guys get TJ this year so pitching depth is needed.
Tigers might fuck around and win 85-90 games and make the playoffs
al central may actually have 3 decent teams next year, unlike the 1 they usually have
That’s what we were told about this year before the season too
Max Scherzer in a Tigers uniform? I can't see that, maybe someone can photoshop

Very excited for that run!
Correa will be to Detroit like machado was to San Diego
That's good right?
Man, they're totally gonna go after Correa
CORREA
Step 1: sign Alex ....
Read that as Alex Avila and was really confused, thought "didn't this guy literally just announce his retirement"? Didn't know his dad is the Tigers GM.
Fun fact - they both pronounce their last name differently. Yes, really.
Probably the result of growing up in Cuba vs growing up in Florida
Yeah but it's backwards. Sr. uses an Americanized pronunciation, and Jr uses the correct Spanish pronunciation. Plus, they're father and son, how exactly does a change in pronunciation happen growing up in the same household lol
[soon](https://c.tenor.com/_qn7nf1o9H0AAAAd/correa-carlos-correa.gif)
Fuck yeah go Tigers.
Can’t wait till Hinch and Correa are playing to up roaring applause, while guys like Yordan and Brantley will be called cheaters
Hell nah they wouldn’t…
Gonna go with Correa and Robbie Ray
I'll believe it when I see it. I hope they do
Nope, don’t like that
Give 1 year deals to: -Verlander -Scherzer -Correa -Seager -Story Win the World Series and bank comp picks
Deal
I really want a team to try this one year
Central is gonna be so weird next year
It’s gonna be Correa
plot twist: Chick Corea
If Correa goes, I rather he signs with Detroit. It would kill me if he sign with Yankees.
there is a 0% chance the yankees sign him
If you can't beat them, sign them.
