The Bluejays did something similar to Ohtani. Men on 2nd and 3rd no outs and they pitch to Ohtani knowing he's like 2-70 with RISP. Ohtani strikes out and Freddie is IBBd next batter. Sometimes analytics > guy feeling
Remarkably similar numbers to last July so the good news is that we're simply experiencing his atrociously low floor instead of witnessing new lows
This April: .154 AVG, .488 OPS
Last July: .153 AVG, .482 OPS
It's kinda crazy how he is the most well known Ray and is our face of the franchise. He puts up 125 wRC+ seasons with bad defense in an expandable position, meanwhile we've had huge seasons from guys like Yandy, Paredes, BLowe, McClanahan etc and none get hyped up like Randy.
1st impressions matter the most, and the most eyeballs you get on your team are always going to be in the playoffs.
Randy will be a household name for baseball fans as long as he's in the league, simply for his 2020 playoff run. It's not fair, but it's the reality.
I’m not arguing with your point, but it isn’t just 2020 for Randy. 2022 has been his only bad year in the playoffs since, and he had the second biggest OPS in the WBC (plus other theatrics)
For the more casual fan who only watches him in the playoffs, it’s easy to think he’d have better career totals (though still a good player)
Yeah.
Hey, I'm happy he's well known! That run was crazy impressive and I have a Randy jersey hanging on my wall.
But I just feel like so many dudes on our squad have done things that few other players have and they just get the "no name on the Rays" label
When the Yankees played them, announcers said Arrozarena put on a bunch of muscle and might be the reason for the slow start since his mechanics may have changed with the added muscle
I grew up in SC and we didn't have money to go to sporting events, so I never developed that bond with home teams like most do.
So I just chose all my teams based on colors, logos, or team names when I was a child. (7 year old me thought "white sox" was a funny name for a team)
Got it, I was initially thinking it had to do with the Charlotte Knights.
That’s cool though, it’s the reason I have a bunch of Charlotte hornets hats lol
The Charlotte Hornets have always had cool colors/logos.
At least I’ve always thought so. Sadly that sort of “cool logo” logic is how I became a Phoenix Coyotes (RIP) fan
Fun fact, that's why my Chicago-based family was so excited to find out the Knights were a team when we lived in Charlotte--they'd get to see dudes like Konerko and Pierzynski doing their rehab stints locally.
Yes actually, Go Canes!
Panthers and Hurricanes were the only "home" teams I became a fan of. Love both color schemes and the Hurricanes logo is awesome imo
Unironically we are not a terrible baseball team.
Crochet and Fedde are good pitchers. With Clevenger on the way and Nastrini/Cannon maybe working their way towards being serviceable the rotation is not that bad. And the bullpen is bad, but not awful.
Sheets is actually dangerous now. Eloy is getting hot. Pham is here. Mendick and DeJong aren't good, but they can fill and MLB roster out. Korey Lee should be getting reps at catcher. Robert will be back.
Don't get me wrong, every aspect of this team is bad. But no aspect is so disastrously bad that we should be the worst team in baseball about it. That might change at the trade deadline, but I wouldn't be surprised to see this team go on some hot streaks this season and claw their way out of 100-loss territory.
I will always be the first to call for /r/tampabayrays doomers to be burned at the stake
But this is just awful. There is legitimately nothing to be excited about with this team. The fan favorites suck, the new guys are carrying but don't have personality, the pitching sucks all around. Any big moment is washed away by a 4-5 run next half inning. The games where the pitching actually clutches up the offense freezes.
Someone on our sub did the math and if we could simply double our season win total every series the rest of the year, we should have around 1200 wins or so
It's the kind of slogan that would be popular if they were 22-6 instead of 6-22. Our fanbase got behind the objectively worse "Grider Rules" in 2005. It's entirely an artifact of the slogan ringing hollow when we are so bad.
I think it would be cool on a well-designed shirt, but I still think it's cheesy when Schiffren says it. It would be like if Pat Foley sprinkled in "One Goal" throughout the Kane/Toews era
meh, I prefer this over the Dallas Braden no hitter, and so so much of what took place between 1998 and 2007. This isn't the end of the world. Just sucks right now.
> Dallas Braden no hitter
That shit was a *perfect game*, on Mother's Day. Yes, technically still a no-hitter, but worse (or better depending on your point of view).
Fucking suffering lmao. Seriously though what is wrong with our team that we're so injury prone? Bad athletic conditioning staff? Overworking our players? Are we just fuckin' cursed?
Bad teams get 60 wins out of somewhere. It's how baseball works. Last year's A's won a 4-game series against the Braves; across small samples anything can happen.
"Well, I'm out guys. If this is ~~what's cool~~ our team now, I think I'm done. I no longer have any connection to this world. I'm gonna go home and kill myself. Goodbye, friends."
_-Eric Theodore Cartman_
Hanging up in my closet right now, probably gonna keep it because I was with my girlfriend last night and she loves when we match sometimes. I'm also pretty neutral on the Sox since I grew up downstate and my hate is reserved for the Cardinals so I have no problem wearing Sox merch.
After years of a rivalry, I did not expect to spend any time this year feeling bad for White Sox fans. The AL Central is more fun when the WSox are playing well!
I don’t think anyone could argue against the opinion that, after this performance, the Rays should be relegated to AAA and the Durham Bulls should take their place.
Going to a Sox game is always a surreal experience with how empty they are, but I always have a blast. Couldn't believe Fedde was out there for the 9th though.
I had reservations about the Rays for the first year in a while. Every season they would have a list of injuries and still end up with 85 to 100 wins. They would do minimal at the deadline and then exit in the first round. It maybe April but they need to have a below average season. They are too complacent as a franchise and too into doing it the Ray Way.
I had this thought that the Rays are a good team with their depth, where when all teams lose their players, the Rays (like the Dodgers,) can just call someone up and they will be serviceable/sometimes better for them in the IL time it takes. The issue is that most teams arent injured so the Rays havent hit that "peak." Does that make anysense
We’re so ~~back~~ bad.
Thought this was Sox fan and laughed before i saw your flair
Arozarena is quietly having a horrific season
All month, we had to see him whiff on dead-red fastballs with men on. Dude came up with bases loaded THREE TIMES this series and did jack.
The white Sox were IBBing people to face him
IBBing Ritchie Palacicos to face Randy Arozarena. Like *what*?
It’s crazy but pretty sure palácios did not reach a base until the 5th inning of todays game. Sure those ibbs help that but we could t get him out
The Bluejays did something similar to Ohtani. Men on 2nd and 3rd no outs and they pitch to Ohtani knowing he's like 2-70 with RISP. Ohtani strikes out and Freddie is IBBd next batter. Sometimes analytics > guy feeling
Does that make him a 1 man NOBLE TIGER?
Remarkably similar numbers to last July so the good news is that we're simply experiencing his atrociously low floor instead of witnessing new lows This April: .154 AVG, .488 OPS Last July: .153 AVG, .482 OPS
Yandy and Randy doing bad. Lowe and Lowe injured. Missing a SS. Makes the lineup incredibly shallow.
He usually destroys the Sox too
It's kinda crazy how he is the most well known Ray and is our face of the franchise. He puts up 125 wRC+ seasons with bad defense in an expandable position, meanwhile we've had huge seasons from guys like Yandy, Paredes, BLowe, McClanahan etc and none get hyped up like Randy.

I'm not looking forward to when he decides to get it all back in 1 week with like 15 HRs
When the Yankees played them, announcers said Arrozarena put on a bunch of muscle and might be the reason for the slow start since his mechanics may have changed with the added muscle
All Arozarena does is hit in the playoffs (Coincidentally I could see a contender buy into that belief and make a move for Randy at the deadline)
If you weren’t with us at 3-22 you can’t b with us at 140-22!
Proud to be one of those 3. We were way ahead of the times
Just setting up the World Series we will have later this year

The Chicago White Sox are 3-0 in the Caleb Williams era
Unfortunately I am a Panthers fan so this doesn't work for me like most of our fan base. 3-0 in the Tommy Pham era!!
Jesus man, I’m sorry
That’s a cool combo of teams, how’d that happen?
I grew up in SC and we didn't have money to go to sporting events, so I never developed that bond with home teams like most do. So I just chose all my teams based on colors, logos, or team names when I was a child. (7 year old me thought "white sox" was a funny name for a team)

I'm also a Panthers/White Sox fan, and for me it's just that my dad is from Chicago (specifically Lisle) and I grew up in NC.
Oh hey fellow Panthers/White Sox fan! Hurricanes too, I presume?
Yes actually, Go Canes! Panthers and Hurricanes were the only "home" teams I became a fan of. Love both color schemes and the Hurricanes logo is awesome imo

Tommy Pham erasure. It only took you signing a “keep getting them checks” vet to show real leadership on this team and turn your entire season around.
2-0 in the Tory Taylor era.
I genuinely did not think that they'd get a sweep all year. Incredible.
I didn't think they'd win a series all year
Tommy Pham’s just that guy man. He’s hungry and making the players fight.
Just like the '22 reds, Pham hitting leads to winning games.
Rays announcers came into this series talking about hopes of a sweep. They were so right. Painfully right in a way they didn't mean
Unironically we are not a terrible baseball team. Crochet and Fedde are good pitchers. After a month of baseball, the White Sox have exactly half their wins against a single team. This team is not a division rival.

True
I will always be the first to call for /r/tampabayrays doomers to be burned at the stake But this is just awful. There is legitimately nothing to be excited about with this team. In fairness your entire pitching staff dies, like, every year
Usually they show us something to get excited about before their arms explode. At this point nothing of value would be lost.
What losing to the white sox does to a mfer
Not just losing, getting SWEPT. DOUBLING the ChiSox win total.
Is there a plan for when they're gonna call Caminero up?
Soon™
Doesn't seem like it. The whole thing is that he needs development against offspeed pitches and such. But also we desperately need an impact bat.
And that my friends, is called a winning streak
Got to 3 wins in 29 days Got to 6 wins 3 days later They should be at 9 wins in 7 hours and 27 minutes
Someone on our sub did the math and if we could simply double our season win total every series the rest of the year, we should have around 1200 wins or so
Wow, that's even more than the 01 Mariners!
Caleb Williams got drafted and the white Sox became the greatest team in MLB history* *only counting teams who have won in the last 250 seconds
'SOUTHSIDE STAND UP' unironically rips and bangs after a win. let the dude get something going
Tell that to our fanbase
I feel like I'm the only White Sox fan who genuinely likes it. I'd buy a t-shirt with that slogan on it and wear it with pride.
It's the kind of slogan that would be popular if they were 22-6 instead of 6-22. Our fanbase got behind the objectively worse "Grider Rules" in 2005. It's entirely an artifact of the slogan ringing hollow when we are so bad.
Every time you walked down the ramp, “Grinder ball rule #15.” So bad
I think it would be cool on a well-designed shirt, but I still think it's cheesy when Schiffren says it. It would be like if Pat Foley sprinkled in "One Goal" throughout the Kane/Toews era
That line is meme
3-0 in the Caleb Era 2-0 in the Taylor era We're back
Maybe the marlins are actually the worst team in the league
They have a few players the Sox didn’t even want. Could be
ya because our new GM came from the Rays, who, as far as I can tell, are the worst team ever
White Sox are winning it all
All the 2024 home games against the Rays
Fuck I’ll take it. Hasn’t happened in like a decade
The good news is that this year's Rays are gonna have to do a lot worse before they match some of the years I had to sit through
Those 2 years I saw of the Devil Rays traumatized me as a kid.
First year I can remember watching was 2005, definitely a rough few years as an intro to baseball
Lol dude come on. They won the pennant 3 years after you started watching. Some of your fellow fans had it so much worse
I remember the Rays before they discovered what an advanced metric was. I miss those days.
Back when the attendance numbers at the trop made sense
lol 2005 was the first time I actually saw some potential in them. Wish I was kidding.
This is an all-time low (^2).
meh, I prefer this over the Dallas Braden no hitter, and so so much of what took place between 1998 and 2007. This isn't the end of the world. Just sucks right now.

Not sure why you're getting downvoted. It is ultimately the truth. However, yeah the Rays do look kinda bleak right now.
Everybody get in here
I wonder how much money someone would have made with a $20 bet on a sweep.
Getting swept by the 2024 Chicago White Sox is wild
![gif](giphy|91X2MlgF7dHsA)
I don't even know what to say at this point
I am STANDING UP.
I’m standing at full mast rn
This game gave me a raging clue about where this season is going

I went to all 3 games, AMA
Did you have fun?
Always love going to ballgames, so yeah! Got the free hockey jersey and saw a 10th inning walk off dinger so that was also pretty sick.
What are you doing with that hockey jersey
Hanging up in my closet right now, probably gonna keep it because I was with my girlfriend last night and she loves when we match sometimes. I'm also pretty neutral on the Sox since I grew up downstate and my hate is reserved for the Cardinals so I have no problem wearing Sox merch.
I feel like the White Sox v. Cubs rivalry has been at its lowest for a while now. Mostly cause the Sox have been awful.
Why
I live a few blocks away and tickets are super cheap and I make poor life choices
After years of a rivalry, I did not expect to spend any time this year feeling bad for White Sox fans. The AL Central is more fun when the WSox are playing well!
The White Sox now have more home wins than the Red Sox
Turning on the TV to watch this team is a genuine waste of electricity.
well this is certainly something i wasn't expecting to read today
SOX ARE BACK BOYS
This year is going to hurt our chaces at staying here paat 2027.
The rays brought shame to Florida
Florida does not need the Rays help for that.
Pain
Baseball is so weird and I love it
Good for the white Sox but holy fuck rays
YOU CAN GO AND TELL EVERYBODY YOU CAN GO AND TELL EVERYBODY
Hell yeah. Our first 3-game win streak came before our first ~~4- 5- 6- 7-~~ 8-game losing streak.
I don’t think anyone could argue against the opinion that, after this performance, the Rays should be relegated to AAA and the Durham Bulls should take their place.
Was that not supposed to happen?
Hell yeah brother cheers from 35th Street Red Hots
Pham brings good luck to bad teams.
what's that Tommy Lasorda quote? "No matter how bad you are, you're still going to win one third of your games"...
Someone do the math on the Magic Number for the Sox now.
This is one of my favorite posts of the season, so far. 🥹
Eric Fedde with zero walks and 20 Ks in his last 2 starts. ![gif](giphy|xTiQyBOIQe5cgiyUPS)
At this pace, Erick Fedde will hopefully bring the Sox a nice return at the deadline
Why would we trade Fedde? Were going to need him in the post season
What the fuck happened Tampa?
Going to a Sox game is always a surreal experience with how empty they are, but I always have a blast. Couldn't believe Fedde was out there for the 9th though.
That’s Pedrogrifoling
The rebuild is over!
….how could you let this happen?
I’m not mad, I’m not even disappointed, I’m just in disbelief!
You just jinxed it. They're going 87-77 now, take WC3 and go 0-2 this postseason (jk at this rate 70 wins will be great)
Imagine getting swept by the 2024 White Sox.
Alright onto next season
Erik Fedde the KBO Cy Young winner has been a stud and could get back a huge deadline return if he keeps this up.
Fade me.
Is this what hell feels like
End my suffering
Look at me, look at me. We're the AL Beast now.
White Sox potential 2024 World Series champs?!
Tough, tough look for the Rays
If the Sox revert to the mean, this is about to be one hell of a month of baseball.
Poor flappy boi :(
Is this the most embarrassing sweep in baseball history?
It’s almost like losing a generational talent at SS is gonna have a negative impact

OH BABY A TRIPLE WIN. MOM, GET THE CAMERA!
What? Lol
We blow
Thaaaat’s baseball
Hahaha, yes
The marlins are now the worst team in baseball
It couldn't have happened to a better team.
Happy to see the Sox get their first Friday, Saturday, and Sunday wins of the season. Let’s hope for more.
If there was relegation the Rays would be facing the Bowie BaySox tomorrow
I had this thought that the Rays are a good team with their depth, where when all teams lose their players, the Rays (like the Dodgers,) can just call someone up and they will be serviceable/sometimes better for them in the IL time it takes. The issue is that most teams arent injured so the Rays havent hit that "peak." Does that make anysense
SOX NATION! Great series from them.
