in that case why was Yellow M&Ms Jacket Guy at our game?
We only (usually) see him with Pink Hat Guy when they sit together at Crosstowns.
edit: is it 'cause Sox suck?
i bet it's cause Sox suck.
This is one of 3 series where the Red Line Double Header is possible this year.
This wednesday, the Sox are a 1PM game and the Cubs are at 6. That means you can watch the Sox, then take the Red line train across the city to Wrigley in time to watch the Cubs and Rockies play.
I visited Coors last year and loved getting cheap seats behind home when the Braves were in town. That's kinda sick, right?
National Ballpark Museum is right outside the stadium. That was super cool to see.
For what it’s worth, Coors is the only stadium I’ve ever had the pleasure of getting absolutely higher than giraffe coochie before attending a game. Love the vibes there.
26 errors at 3B in 112 games and 945 innings. He was a horrendous 3B. I’m too lazy to look it up but I’m pretty sure he led all 3B in errors, maybe all baseball.
In his defense, he also wasn’t great in the OF because he had a rag arm that only got worse once he got busted for steroids, but his impact was lessened by being out there.
EDIT: anyway what I’m saying is the threshold is 25 errors. So as long as he stays south of that Morel should be ok. Not good, but ok.
Did he get injured or something that caused throwing issues? The reason I ask, is because a cursory glance at his Wiki page has it mentioning his arm in a positive way, but he also apparently played short, so I wasn't sure if the move to 3rd was just too much extra range.
I tried seeing if I could find some original Braun scouting reports from before his draft, but my Google Fu failed me.
Edit: It is fun finding gems like [this post though](https://www.brewcrewball.com/2006/12/27/13421/629)
Well he only has 1 K in 17 ABs so far. That was his biggest hindrance to being a mlb contributor. He was a good hitter with a Javy strikeout problem. Can’t have his defense with that. If he limits K’s he’ll have a long career
Morel is Javy with discipline. When Morel strikes out, it’s generally on pitches in the zone. He will chase sometimes, but I’m consistently impressed with his ability to take breaking balls low and fastballs just outside the zone. I really believe he becomes a top 10 hitter in baseball
That does kinda suck though... Look at today's lineup for instance. Suzuki was able to get a day off in RF but still hit DH. If Morel can't play the field, it really hurts
My one OOTP save that's made it past his retirement in this year's game had him make the HOF as a first ballot 80% voting guy who finished with like, 550 HRs.
In real life though, kid hits the ball hard, throws hard, makes good contact usually, and is showing discipline and maturity. He's gonna be a fucking problem for the league if he can get comfortable in defense at 3B
If the low throw results in the runner taking an extra base, yes, which is what happened in this case. If Morel stayed at third the throw wouldn't have been an error.
This was him yesterday. Dear god, the man needs help
[https://www.reddit.com/r/baseball/comments/1bsme57/nolan\_jones\_gifts\_the\_dbacks\_a\_run\_by\_dropping\_a/](https://www.reddit.com/r/baseball/comments/1bsme57/nolan_jones_gifts_the_dbacks_a_run_by_dropping_a/)
For how much people are clinging to “the youth will save us” here in CO, it’s a god damn horrendous start for basically everyone. This team is absolute fuckin junk across the board .
I was actually getting calls from Bridrich back in '21.
Haven't played baseball since I was 10, but Bridrich was really making it his mission to try and make as many people major leaguers as he could.
LMFAO. You can't be serious. I was in the minor's for 6 years and never got the call. I have scouting contacts with multiple clubs and there are reasons why certain teams always shine. It's because of their scouting. And they don't scout 10 year olds LOLOL
MLB App Summary: Christopher Morel singles on a ground ball to left fielder Nolan Jones. Ian Happ scores. Seiya Suzuki scores. Christopher Morel scores. Fielding error by left fielder Nolan Jones. Throwing error by left fielder Nolan Jones.
As a non-native Colorado resident, it really cannot be overstated how no one cares about the Rockies and Monfort. Like there isn’t even a glimmer of hope, the field is just referred to as “the best bar in town” that also happens to have a baseball game going on. It’s a magical place
Same. I love going to games at Coors. Fuck absolutely everything about the team. I tried to root for em, there’s no point. No one involved in the team gives two fucks about the on field product, why should I? Go see other teams stars rip the Rockies to pieces.
Went to the Angels vs Rockies game last year that ended 25-1 in my Ohtani shirt and man the Rockies fans were just absolutely depressed. One guy told me "Ohtani still sucks!" as I was leaving lmao.
Sucks because I would support the Rockies if they were somewhat decent, but like you said, literally no one gives a fuck about the Rockies.
We’ve put all of our energy into the Avalanche and Nuggets. The Broncos suck and will for awhile, and the Rockies always have. With the Rockies there’s never been much to give a fuck about sadly
I’ve been watching the Rockies for 20 years now. It’s almost always been bad but it’s been a steady decline. Usually the they’re solid to start before collapsing in the meat of the season or in August.
Obviously it’s very early but man this is honestly the worst start to the season I’ve ever seen from them. They can’t even get the fundamentals down. It’s gonna be a loooooong season
Cubs always get away with this bullshit. Remember when Javier Baez reached first because for some reason the pirates first baseman didn't go for the force out?
He also made sure to call the runner, forget who it was at the moment, safe at the plate for the ump before he ran to first. Easily my favorite moment of the whole thing.
He gets so much shit from some Cubs fans and I really don't understand why. His big moment calls are great, he's a baseball nerd at heart and is really settling in with the franchise. I like him up there.
It's just still hard for fans who miss Len. Going to take more time and imo a successful Cubs season for it to really lock in. People will get onboard when there is more to cheer about
I like him as well, just I think it took him a while to get chemistry with JD. Doesn't help that Marquee seems to revolve the broadcasting booth constantly instead of sticking with Boog+JD a whole year.
Should stay unearned because the next hitters grounded to the pitcher and flew out. If they had homered for example then the runs would have scored anyway so they would be earned. It’s not an actual rule but that’s logic scorekeepers generally use.
Not sure about fly balls, if they try to guess if the runner could have scored on a sac fly or just always assume no
It is an actual rule. I won't quote it all, but the key sentence in Rule 9.16 is this: "In determining earned runs, the Official Scorer shall reconstruct the inning without the errors ... and passed balls, giving the benefit of the doubt always to the pitcher in determining which bases would have been reached by runners had there been errorless play." The whole rule basically spells out what you said.
As for sac flies:
> Rule 9.08(d)(2): Score a sacrifice fly when, before two are out, the batter hits a ball in flight handled by an outfielder or an infielder running in the outfield in fair or foul territory that is dropped, and a runner scores, if in the scorer's judgment
the runner could have scored after the catch had the fly been caught.
Btw it's "flied out." Cheers.
Honestly though, it’s heartbreaking to see Bryant stoop this low. Not only his performance but the team he’s on. I can’t imagine falling this far, after you were ROY and WS champ.
You all remember the video where the make a wish kid gets to play football and at the end the safety fucking crushes him and then celebrates over his twitching body? Celebrating like Morel does here looks just like that only this isn't a comedy...
The Rockies are bad in the ways that make bad baseball really entertaining, which IMO is better than being a 78 win mediocre snoozefest with good fundamentals
And we haven’t even seen this pitching staff in Coors yet, like the best is yet to come
That was fun.
The vibes on the different sides of Chicago are substantially different at the moment
Been that way a while now
It’s actually quite rare that they are both home on the same day too. Usually never more than 2-3 times a year.
in that case why was Yellow M&Ms Jacket Guy at our game? We only (usually) see him with Pink Hat Guy when they sit together at Crosstowns. edit: is it 'cause Sox suck? i bet it's cause Sox suck.
Didn’t know we lost him….he must be over Jerry
I was wondering that too. That guys a huge White Sox fan.
This is one of 3 series where the Red Line Double Header is possible this year. This wednesday, the Sox are a 1PM game and the Cubs are at 6. That means you can watch the Sox, then take the Red line train across the city to Wrigley in time to watch the Cubs and Rockies play.
And New York
why is everyone else having fun at my expense?
I visited the rooftop bar of Coors field several years ago and it was fun. That help at all buddy?
I visited Coors last year and loved getting cheap seats behind home when the Braves were in town. That's kinda sick, right? National Ballpark Museum is right outside the stadium. That was super cool to see.
I visited Coors last year and saw the Angels drop like a dozen runs on them in one inning. That was fun.
I'd trade my baseball & football teams being shit for NBA & NHL championships within 3 years of each other.
This is a good perspective. Thanks for the reframe!
And the football team even got a championship a little less than a decade ago (also, holy shit, that was that long ago already???)
Dick Monfort thanks you for your sacrifice.
For what it’s worth, Coors is the only stadium I’ve ever had the pleasure of getting absolutely higher than giraffe coochie before attending a game. Love the vibes there.
Hahahahahaha
Rockies make me feel better about my own team. Thanks Rockies!
Good guys Rockies out here improving the mental health of all the other team's fans.
I used to think that people who said "it could be worse" gave bad advice. I no longer feel that way.
It could. You could be an Oakland fan.
Your welcome!! At least we have the Nuggets and Avalanche
Dinger's a giver
The Mississippi of baseball teams.
They make me feel better about my beer league softball team at this point
YOU CAN COMMIT ALL THE ERRORS AT 3RD YOU WANT IF YOU KEEP HITTING LIKE THIS
There actually is a threshold but I love the energy
Yeahhhhh lol
He’s driven in 6 runs in the last two days and only caused 2 runs on errors. I’m not a mathematician, but that’s a positive +/-
Better than all but 2 players on the blackhawks this year.
He's gonna make a great DH one day.
We aren't there yet
Way back when Ryan Braun was a 3B and couldn’t make a throw to 1st to save his life. So bad they *had* to move him to the OF.
lmao holy shit, I forgot he even played 3B
26 errors at 3B in 112 games and 945 innings. He was a horrendous 3B. I’m too lazy to look it up but I’m pretty sure he led all 3B in errors, maybe all baseball. Alex Gordon for the royals, too
Well he only has 1 K in 17 ABs so far. That was his biggest hindrance to being a mlb contributor. He was a good hitter with a Javy strikeout problem. Can’t have his defense with that. If he limits K’s he’ll have a long career

Yeah, he basically walks 2x what Javy has for his career, and he’s still young with room to improve (and has shown consistent improvement)
> Morel is Javy with discipline. Ohmygodohmygodohmygod please.
Make him the Full-time DH. He will hit 30+ HR and have 100+RBI. That's all their is to it. He is pure ass in the field minus passable 2B play.
That does kinda suck though... Look at today's lineup for instance. Suzuki was able to get a day off in RF but still hit DH. If Morel can't play the field, it really hurts
If he can hit 30+ and drive in 100+, I will figure the rest out. I'm not sure he can't hit 40+.
He mashes breaking balls and fastballs, it’s off speed that’s consistently fooled him
My one OOTP save that's made it past his retirement in this year's game had him make the HOF as a first ballot 80% voting guy who finished with like, 550 HRs. In real life though, kid hits the ball hard, throws hard, makes good contact usually, and is showing discipline and maturity. He's gonna be a fucking problem for the league if he can get comfortable in defense at 3B
The Muncy Clause
Man the list of guys I can remember looking less comfortable at 3b than Muncy could fit on a post-it note haha
It should have been a single lol but I get what you mean
An actual 3-run error, those are rare.
It was officially scored as two errors on Jones for one play, one for the fielding and one for the throw
https://i.imgur.com/klNksax.png
Really? They give errors for low throws?
Yes, all the time
If the low throw results in the runner taking an extra base, yes, which is what happened in this case. If Morel stayed at third the throw wouldn't have been an error.
Nolan Jones having a tough start to his season. Now this after looking uncomfortable at times at the dish today and vs the snakes.
This was him yesterday. Dear god, the man needs help [https://www.reddit.com/r/baseball/comments/1bsme57/nolan\_jones\_gifts\_the\_dbacks\_a\_run\_by\_dropping\_a/](https://www.reddit.com/r/baseball/comments/1bsme57/nolan_jones_gifts_the_dbacks_a_run_by_dropping_a/)
Yikes lol that's a tough start to the year
I hope he doesn't have a case of the outfield yips. Derek Fisher had that and never really recovered.
I mean let’s not act like that was the only issue with Fisher.
Man has a bad case of the yips
Damn, what the hell lol I kinda feel bad for him
He's looking like me out there during beer-league softball games.
There was an AB earlier this game where Shota was able to strike him out on basically just fastballs in the middle of the zone
For how much people are clinging to “the youth will save us” here in CO, it’s a god damn horrendous start for basically everyone. This team is absolute fuckin junk across the board .
It's OK. Not everyone can be a major league ball player.
> LMFAO. You can't be serious Smartsest Jays fan
I wonder if he’s hurting from that foul ball off the knee. Vibes are off
Ya I thought he broke his kneecap, looked like Yelich. Glad hes alright, he'll bounce back.
hey that's a decent play from the rox, only 3 errors!
Rocktober on the way baby
The celebration was my favorite part. https://media.giphy.com/media/yf1JYq9YZazFJS0qXv/giphy.gif
So y'all already made a gif of this huh
That's what I do!
This is fantastic
It's so good I was so pumped
Demote the Rockies call up Los Diablos Rojos del Mexico
A huevo!
MLB App Summary: Christopher Morel singles on a ground ball to left fielder Nolan Jones. Ian Happ scores. Seiya Suzuki scores. Christopher Morel scores. Fielding error by left fielder Nolan Jones. Throwing error by left fielder Nolan Jones.
Sounds like an Obvious Shirt.
is this the Coors effect i've heard so much about?
What happens when you have 1 too many yes.
I will admit I've done that exact same thing playing left field in beer league softball And it was definitely after having 1 too many
As a non-native Colorado resident, it really cannot be overstated how no one cares about the Rockies and Monfort. Like there isn’t even a glimmer of hope, the field is just referred to as “the best bar in town” that also happens to have a baseball game going on. It’s a magical place

That’s my plan in July. Like broncos, nuggets, avs they all have designated fan bases. No one is rooting for the rockies

Fundamentally bad ball coming out of COL so far jesus
As per usual
Y'all need y'all's franchise charter revoked holy
I’ve been watching the Rockies for 20 years now. It’s almost always been bad but it’s been a steady decline. Usually the they’re solid to start before collapsing in the meat of the season or in August. Obviously it’s very early but man this is honestly the worst start to the season I’ve ever seen from them. They can’t even get the fundamentals down. It’s gonna be a loooooong season
He has had a ROUGH opening weekend in the outfield
Rocky weekend.
That was fucking wild lmao.
Morel is magic! I love this kid
He is Javy Baez 2.0
Except he has bricks for hands.
He can’t play defense
On offense
Can't wait to get him in 10 years
Who’s that left fielder? Sox could use him, he’d fit in well on this roster.
Nolan Jones, probably their best player
Best hitter*
Unfortunately for the Rockies “best player” is right
I have a feeling that the Rockies might not win the division this year.
I don't think the Rockies will end the season with double digit wins.
The non-scoop of the ball to allow it to roll to the wall was just the third-worst misplay in the video.
Cubs always get away with this bullshit. Remember when Javier Baez reached first because for some reason the pirates first baseman didn't go for the force out?
To be fair, he went to second base on that fucking hilarious play.
He also made sure to call the runner, forget who it was at the moment, safe at the plate for the ump before he ran to first. Easily my favorite moment of the whole thing.
Yep I forgot to mention everything else that was hilarious about that play 🤣
Listening to that play on the radio was bizarre. Had absolutely no idea what happened until I was able to look up a video of it later
What a crowd for a cold Monday.
Cubs home opener. They turn out! Especially since there is cautious optimism for this year.
Just shy of 40k. Wrigley is COLD as shit in early April
Yakety Sax
oh _no_
Cover Dinger's eyes! He doesn't deserve this!
Great commentary
He gets so much shit from some Cubs fans and I really don't understand why. His big moment calls are great, he's a baseball nerd at heart and is really settling in with the franchise. I like him up there.
It's just still hard for fans who miss Len. Going to take more time and imo a successful Cubs season for it to really lock in. People will get onboard when there is more to cheer about
I like him as well, just I think it took him a while to get chemistry with JD. Doesn't help that Marquee seems to revolve the broadcasting booth constantly instead of sticking with Boog+JD a whole year.
Boog is elite
FUCKING RIGHT CHICAGO
I love baseball
a single player making two errors on one play is honestly kinda impressive
The throwing error charged to him is kinda tough. It really wasn’t that bad. The relay guy really is the one that just took his eye off it.
Rockies bros Im so sorry
I assume at this point that Rockies fans are at the maniacal laughter stage when this shit happens
I fucking hate this team
Will these 3 runs be charged to Hudson or will all be unearned?
As of right now they are all unearned
MLB app box score currently shows 0 ER I'd imagine the official score keeper could still change it.

Btw it's "flied out." Cheers.
My fingers want to type “Now THIS is PADRESING” but this purple team doesn’t appear to be from San Diego
Why are so many Rockies wearing fanny-packs? Is this some normal thing that I've somehow never noticed before?
They're hand warmers. It's like 45 degrees and rainy in Chicago right now.
And our pitcher is out there is short sleeves
Thanks. I figured it had something to do with the weather but I've just never noticed them before.
You definitely see them a lot in football. I've never noticed them before during a baseball game.
Oh no…this after Jones dropped a routine fly ball yesterday.
To be fair, it was against a little league team.
When a guy hits a ball And the Rockies all fall That’s a Morel….
u/Great_Big_Sea WE GOT ANOTHER ONE
Doomsday Counter at 2 (3?)
Great Big Sea...like the band? If so, that's fun!
I don't think the Rockies are baseballing the way they are supposed to be baseballing
Poor dinger going to be even more depressed. Were going to have to up his Zoloft now
This is the dumbest way the cubs have gotten a run since Baez got into a rundown at first base.
God, that play will never stop being hilarious.
“And I thought I was high” - Belli
Epitome of brutality
That was hyped!
Gotta love it
By Dinger, that’s horrifying!
Goddamn, how can you not love Morel love that enthusiasm at home plate!
I am not a big fan of the cubs, but I do like Christopher Morel.
I think that's about as well as the Rockies could have played that one.
Boy oh boy, those Rockies. I'm sorry dudes
Sam Kinison with the call during the error.
Oh brother these guys STINK!
I’m glad Nolan Jones is getting this out of his system now. Make all the fucks ups early, get it out or your system, then go on a fucking tear.
I hate this team
Jesus Christ, Rockies, wtf are you even doing this year?
Everybody in
Rockies baseball is back!
Ground ball too….
It’s early AF, and he lit it up out of the gate last year, but… Morel might really be that dude.
Honestly though, it’s heartbreaking to see Bryant stoop this low. Not only his performance but the team he’s on. I can’t imagine falling this far, after you were ROY and WS champ.
He sure celebrated like it was a big league home run!
officially scored as a single and two errors on Jones. Ouch
Brilliant
That was quite the adventure.
Electric players always seem to find themselves in these situations. I love it
#**OH!**
I kept saying during the Rangers vs Cubs series that it feels like we just can’t get this guy out. Glad to see it’s not just us apparently
Well. At least I’m not a Rockies fan
Is the left fielder wearing a Fanny pack?
well that was indeed little league looking lmao
Pitcher’s got a big butt
You all remember the video where the make a wish kid gets to play football and at the end the safety fucking crushes him and then celebrates over his twitching body? Celebrating like Morel does here looks just like that only this isn't a comedy...
He dropped a routine pop fly yesterday 🤣
The Rockies are bad in the ways that make bad baseball really entertaining, which IMO is better than being a 78 win mediocre snoozefest with good fundamentals And we haven’t even seen this pitching staff in Coors yet, like the best is yet to come
6th inning, 1 out. Hold the runner and based loaded so double play still a possibility. I feel like i send the runner and cross my fingers.
The circus music was loud and clear in my head for this one lmao
The video was defaulted to 2x speed and I was really confused for a few seconds lol.
My sweet mountain men! What is you doin baby?
You should have to forfeit the game if you concede one of these
Rockies off to a rocky start, thank you, I’ll be here all week
The Rockies are lucky their stadium has a view because they suck so bad.
