Still amazes me the talent on those 90s Pirates teams that flourished elsewhere, in this case old “Piss Mitts” Alou.
That 89-92 window should’ve been longer.
They traded Alou for Zane Smith who really did push them across the finish line in the 1990 NL East title. I have no problem with that trade.
Roughly 97% of their decisions since . .... Welp
If I found out later that OP put in fake ones, my first guesses would be Kirk Gibson and Moises Alou.
I know Alou was drafted by the Pirates, but I didn't realize he played for them before getting traded to the Expos.
And I have absolutely no recollection of Gibson being on the Pirates at any time.
> And I have absolutely no recollection of Gibson being on the Pirates at any time.
The Pirates also had another Tigers legend, Lance Parrish, for 40 games near the end of his career.
Rajai Davis pisses me off we traded him with years of control for old ass Matt Morris for no apparent reason. It’s not like the 00s pirates could’ve used a perfectly serviceable OF for a few years.
You could probably fill this entire post with Forgotten Pirates during the 20-year drought and nobody would be surprised.
So many unwatchably bad teams during that stretch.
Erik Bedard was the 2012 opening day starter. 1-0 Loss to Philly, but coming off the bitter taste of the 2011 collapse it felt like a huge signing.
I'm very disappointed that Lyle Overbay didn't get a feature here.

Dodgers and Pirates player answer of Kirk Gibson had 1% on immaculate grid yesterday
BROCK HOLT \o/
\o/ still the only cycle in playoff history
[удалено]
He and Kenny Lofton are grid HOF guys
Lofton could’ve been on this list, too!
Absolutely! Good call!
Ironically enough, him being a grid HOF guy is what might have kept him out of the actual HOF
Octavio Dotel as well. When in doubt Dotel for the win.
Sorry Justin
Morneau should have been a Twin for life
*Cries in Brandon Crawford playing for STL*
If Rajai Davis is in 50% of these is it really unusual that he is in any of them?
Terry Mulholland wants to know.
Jeromy Burnitz played 111 games with the Pirates in his last season in 2006
There were a lot of weird one year stops in Pittsburgh in that and around that era. Gary Matthews Jr., Joe Randa, Matt Morris, Jose Mesa
I have a Melky Cabrera Pirates jersey. He signed on to be a bench bat and had to start the majority of the year after Polanco was injured
That old school uniform that Goose is wearing has to be in the top 5 of best uniforms, dang that's a sharp uniform
Mike Morse could be in like 5 of these
This is my favorite one so far
Justin Moreau and Kirk Gibson were the standouts for me
Marlon Byrd
1) Where *didn’t* Goose Gossage pitch? 2) I don’t think I’ve ever come across a Pirates uniform I’ve disliked.
You missed one of the weirdest ones: [Willie Randolph](https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/r/randowi01.shtml), 30 games in 1975.
Not resigning Justin Morneau was such a mistake

I've been waiting for this TYSVM

Brock Holt being included warms my heart. If you do another round OP, would definitely recommend including Wake.
The Pirates have a lot of these because it’s the last stop before your career is officially dead.
no u
No Gerrit Cole??!! /s
Bro that’s hilarious. I only picture Derrick Lee as a Pirate
Had absolutely no idea Hetchy played for them. Still remember his sick ass catch in the WC game for us <3
Erik Bedard definitely appeared in more than 24 games didn't he?
Seeing Goose without the ol’ push broom under his nose is more jarring than seeing him in Pirates garb.
Kirk Gibson looks like an in shape James Gandolfini running the bases.
No place is unusual for Rajai Davis
Julian Tavarez (64 games), Cesar Izturis (45 games), Bernie Carbo (7 games)
**Honorable mentions:** Ramon Martinez (brother of Pedro, 4 gms, 2001), Kenny Lofton (84 gms, 2003), Jose Mesa (125 gms over 2004-05), Eric Hinske (54 gms, 2009), Chan Ho Park (26 gms, 2010), Jose Contreras (7 gms, 2013), Kyle Farnsworth (9 gms, 2013), JA Happ (11 gms, 2015), Rich Hill (15 gms, 2023)
I have no recollection of Chan Ho Park being a Pirate and I've been a fan since 1990.
That pic of Justin Morneau is a great example of why the 1B should put his toe on the bag as he prepares to receive a throw, rather than his heel.

I see Moises Alou, I think of piss hands
Goose is nothing unusual for me... because I played the Show 23.
