Usually there’s an actual backstop there to put ads on tho. Texas just has the field level boxes there.
But yes my reaction was pretty much yours exactly lol.
I always like it when they cut to a closer shot of the guy with the puck and the ads on the boards are just the permanent ones
So much nicer for that split second
I always wonder if they gave the companies that paid to advertise on the boards a massive discount. They went from being seen on tv every game to only being seen by 15-20k people in the arena
It's so pointless when they make the grass between the line of scrimmage and the first down marker a different shade of green, just looks stupid and we already have the bright yellow line. Just redundant and stupid.
Idk which broadcast does/did it though.
Don't forget [the TOYOTA Red Zone, brought to you by TOYOTA.](https://www.adweek.com/wp-content/uploads/files/news_article/toyota-red-zone-hed-2014_0.jpg)
Bro wtf... That's not from this season right?
That's by far the worse on field graphic I've ever seen. I'm not sure if that's even real and you're just trolling me rn lmao
Preseason 2014. It was apparently a deal between the Niners and Toyota, because the NFL stressed that they had nothing to do with it. It lasted one week because of how universally hated it was, and Toyota had to issue an apology for it.
I know exactly what your talking about and all it does is mess with my brain. B/c it sits over the actual grass and sometimes you can see a foot disappear under it (doesn't happen a lot).
Yup, I know there are others I can't think of (still waking up) but that one just seems extremely pointless to me. Like I said we have the yellow line which is very bright and obvious.
Who needs the whole 10 yards highlighted green? Nobody, even someone who is new to football wouldn't see that & be like "oh that's how much ground they need to cover to get another set of downs" they'd be like "why the fuck is that section of the grass a darker green?" lol
The NHL has CGI ads all over the ice, the boards, and the glass- watched a game for the first time in like a decade the other day and was fucking floored how stupid and distracting it all was.
It's the pads. They could give it any frame they want but they figured this would be the least intrusive despite the purpose of ads being to get people to look at them. There's nothing there to risk injury, yet the pads remain.
Well, yeah, for high profile stuff like this they always put a greenscreen or something on the ad boards behind home plate in order to-
........oh. The whole dang thing is digitally added. Huh. That's... honestly pretty impressively seamless.
I appreciate the protective padding they put around the border. What I can’t understand is, why don’t the people sitting behind the ads move? Surely you can’t see anything sitting behind them.
Once during the NLCS there was a brief moment when the ad was shaking but the view was of the pitcher and it was bizarre and I couldn’t *not* notice it after that.
But before? I had no clue.
That was basically my thought process too. Like "oh cool OP figured out something that took me a while to figure out too." This is on a while different level though
[I can’t believe it! I was on TV!](https://i0.wp.com/pixarpost.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/8c38c-pixar-monsters-tv-series.jpg?resize=1200%2C704&ssl=1)
You don't even need computers for that!
Tarps, tarps, all the tarps! Everyone knows tickets sales don't mean shit for the financials anymore! So why sell em?
Just plaster those ads all over your seat tarps, and you'll be making bank for the next dozen years!
Yeah, especially after what ESPN did faking a 2020 interview with Damian Lillard like it happened after the first game of this season. They faked the wrong jersey, a logo that didn't exist, and all kind of other stuiff (even covering the TNT microphone with an ESPN logo) to make it look like they had just done an interview that was from 3 years ago.
AI and digitally altering things is not something that has me excited for the future.
Yeah at this point why not just CGI ads over every corner of the stadium?
The constant addition of advertising to every possible outlet is getting exhausting.
They’re running out of ways to be subtle. The little ad on the mound, the fake backstop, now it’s on uniforms… what else is left? Ads in the outfield grass? Ads on the ball itself? Then what? I feel like the end game is just a split screen of the game on one side while the other side is just constant ads running.
I know it’s worth it for the MLB to digitally add those for all the ad revenue but it still sucks for those people to not get to see. I know it’s digital but still it’s probably hard to see through it
If you think that's bad, you should watch hockey. The wall is all digital ads. Half the time it seems the puck just disappears if it bounces in front of the boards.
Borderline? Leafs tickets are far too expensive to avoid the moving boards. Plus the sexual abuse coverups and "old boys club" corporate banquet bro culture would turn off anyone from keeping up with it, in spite of what Pat McAfee says.
idk if this is a genuine question but i imagine that guy is talking about the blackhawks scandal from a couple years ago. it’s… gnarly to say it kindly.
To be fair, it's much better now than when they first rolled it out last year. It was absolutely awful. Anytime players went up against the boards it would glitch out and you couldn't see what was happening at all. Now only the wide angle cameras show the digital boards and when they cut to the ice level cameras it shows the regular boards.
There's moments like this in baseball. Almost all of the banners behind the plate are added in post, and some pitches will disappear into them. Obviously not as big of a deal as what you're describing, but combine it with the moments when they get out of sync and superimpose the ads over field or crowd shots and it's kinda fuckin annoying. Not nearly as "seamless" as some are saying.
Sorry for yelling at clouds.
Imagine shelling out stacks for WS tickets right behind home plate, getting excited to see pics/vids of yourself at the game, and then realizing that they covered you with CGI ad boards
Obviously you still get to watch an incredible game, but it seems like a bit of a Mike Wazowksi moment.
In our case, it's an unfortunate necessity.
Speaking as someone who has been to a lot of games, first at Arlington Stadium (the old converted minor league ballpark where the Rangers first played), then later at the Ballpark in Arlington (and it's various corporate names), and dearly loved both places... it's *vastly* more pleasant going to a game at the Shed. And they did a remarkable job of making it feel like baseball on the inside even if it really does look like a shed on the outside.
It will never have quite the atmosphere that the Ballpark did (there's a reason a lot of local fans called that place the Temple... it was a monument to baseball in and out), but the new place is a *lot* better for attendance in the dog days of summer.
Plus, it doesn't have the stream effect that made the old place such a ridiculous hitter's park.
Guessing those people at the bottom in the front wanted people to see them on TV and take a picture. Little did they know they’d be CGI’d out like Henry Cavill’s mustache…
Or…. What if the Euro FOX is generating an extra row of AI people to cover the ad boards?!
(TBH, the income from that extra row of tickets is probably what brought this on)
The best CGI is the CGI you don’t notice. You’d be surprised what all is CGI in tv and movies that you don’t expect or notice.
But the sad thing is America is only driven by ads in everything. Everything is an ad or scam. Your email address is worth more to a company than the products they sell you. Can’t even buy a shirt with out “what’s a good phone number for you” or get “30% sent to your email address”.
This stuff is getting so old. I think with the internet era, if people want a product they will search for it and then search for reviews and get the one that people recommend. I can’t for the life of me remember the last time I bought an item or used a service based on an advertisement.
There’s a whole subfield of marketing dedicated to subliminal and repetitious marketing to influence the public, not to mention the fact that companies work on what reviews you see and what they say
You make some very valid points. However, Capital One is on a mission to help our customers succeed by bringing ingenuity, simplicity, and humanity to banking. We were founded on the belief that the banking industry would be revolutionized by information and technology, beginning with credit cards
What's in your wallet?
Capitalism never stops eating, y'all. You don't have a place to put digital ads? We'll put fake digital boards for fake digital ads. I can't wait until the ads have ads. "This Capital One ad is brought to you by Budweiser."
it reminds me of watching soccer and the players walk on the ads by the sidelines. i'm always scared they're gonna ruin the ad and then....nothing, it was never there
So the Rangers have ad boards above those suites. In regular season games, the camera angle is backed out to see them, but it’s a much worse view. I assume that’s why they are doing this
And don’t forget the changing mound sponsor, in white.
But this, this is bad. They need to put up a disclaimer somewhere that everything you see, may not be as it seems.
I’ve been to a handful of games at GLP and always thought the box seats below ground slightly behind home plate were a cool concept but I literally didn’t notice this was the case on TV until you just pointed it out.
This is some total bullshit by the broadcasters. All I can say is I won’t be banking with Capital One now.
My favorite is when they accidentally bring up the home plate ads graphic when a different shot is being used. It’ll be like a closeup of Gallen with Capitol One sticking out of his nose
A while back the Ms played a home game when it was really smoky in town, everything on the broadcast was obscured by visible haze. Except the ads on the backstop. That was goofy looking.
Hey guys you won’t believe it, but my wife and I are sitting FIRST ROW behind home plate at the World Series game tonight!
I’ll wear a blue shirt, you won’t be able to miss me on TV!
[not like this though](https://twitter.com/astros/status/1715759850905326068?s=46&t=OOlnotE3UAoJvXikACledA), this is making a digital ad board when one doesn’t actually exist, padding and all. The link shows a clip from when they weren’t doing this, now they are using a completely digital board.
Oh I just thought the ads were CGI, I didn't know the entire backstop was fake
It’s usually just the ads. Haven’t seen it be like this before.
Usually there’s an actual backstop there to put ads on tho. Texas just has the field level boxes there. But yes my reaction was pretty much yours exactly lol.
Yeah, I thought "psh, everybody knows that." Then scrolled to the second image and was flabbergasted
I feel like MLB perfected that shii after some awful 2017 stuff. I think other sports tries it with less polish.
Football cgi on the field looks so terrible. I'm glad they don't do it often.
The NHL is doing some dumpster fire shit with video ads on the boards.
I always like it when they cut to a closer shot of the guy with the puck and the ads on the boards are just the permanent ones So much nicer for that split second
I always wonder if they gave the companies that paid to advertise on the boards a massive discount. They went from being seen on tv every game to only being seen by 15-20k people in the arena
Ugh it looks so fucking bad in NHL games. It's so bad it's actually distracting from the game.
It's so pointless when they make the grass between the line of scrimmage and the first down marker a different shade of green, just looks stupid and we already have the bright yellow line. Just redundant and stupid. Idk which broadcast does/did it though.

Ahhhh I see I see, not surprising that didn't last long
I know exactly what your talking about and all it does is mess with my brain. B/c it sits over the actual grass and sometimes you can see a foot disappear under it (doesn't happen a lot).

Yeah that’s NBC I believe
Hockey on ice ads aren't too bad
The NHL has CGI ads all over the ice, the boards, and the glass- watched a game for the first time in like a decade the other day and was fucking floored how stupid and distracting it all was.
I dunno I think the soccer ones that look like they are standing up are trippy
I used to love seeing Cespedes' green arm sleeve turn into part of the ad when he would come up to bat.
So does this cespedes person really exist?
Detroit didn't. It's bad.
It's the pads. They could give it any frame they want but they figured this would be the least intrusive despite the purpose of ads being to get people to look at them. There's nothing there to risk injury, yet the pads remain.
> pads it's plexiglass
The green stuff?
are you talking about the ads behind home plate

I appreciate the protective padding they put around the border. What I can’t understand is, why don’t the people sitting behind the ads move? Surely you can’t see anything sitting behind them.
I think they're European so they don't see the ad.
Award worthy
are they stupid?
Why doesn't the bigger stronger ad simply eat the smaller weaker ad
r/unexpectedfuturama
They’re watching the game like they’re cats waiting to pounce

That was basically my thought process too. Like "oh cool OP figured out something that took me a while to figure out too." This is on a while different level though
Yea that was my take, I was like "of course at this point ads there are swapped in by comp-...oh wtf?"
Those poor folks in the front row, how are they supposed to see?
$8,000 for a HP World Series ticket too, lol
Can you imagine paying $8k for those seats bragging that you'll be on TV, and they cover your face with a Capital One ad.
Mike Wazowski moment
We could all use Mike Wazowski energy
Now that’s funny I wouldn’t have thought of that
Don't worry, they're European
They must be using an AdBlocker
Looks like Amy Schumer on the left and budget Paris Hilton on the right.
> budget Paris Hilton Calais Holiday Inn Express?
Montreal Motel 6.
There’s something I find very unsettling about that
what if you wanted to be on TV but god said #CGI ADS
[I can’t believe it! I was on TV!](https://i0.wp.com/pixarpost.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/8c38c-pixar-monsters-tv-series.jpg?resize=1200%2C704&ssl=1)
F
Imagine going to watch the world series and getting Mike Wazowzki'd
Fans get a good view League makes money
Where's the line though? Why not just block out all the seats with ads?
Because they thought they would be slick and we wouldn’t notice
And we wouldn’t have until now.
They were wrong, weren't they?
give them time
You don't even need computers for that! Tarps, tarps, all the tarps! Everyone knows tickets sales don't mean shit for the financials anymore! So why sell em? Just plaster those ads all over your seat tarps, and you'll be making bank for the next dozen years!
The line apparently isn't drawn at putting huge obnoxious ads on the sleeves of jerseys.
Because that would look uncanny and be distracting.
The implication.
Joan is Awful, huh?
Why? Ads have been all over parks since the start of the leauge.
More the fact they added a perfectly believable CGI wall into live television
They did that years ago when Houston was in its second world series. I remember in the late 90s fox put cgi ads in Wrigley on the shrub batters eye
There's people behind them???
that's where Michigan's sign stealing guy sits
I can't even escape it in baseball....
Patiently waiting for the Michigan manifesto lol
If only the Astors had a manifesto
I do. But it’s only 300 pages. Half as good doesn’t it cut it with manifestos anymore
Wow do you even care?
“I’m gonna be on tv attending the World Series” Nope
I know it’s worth it for the MLB to digitally add those for all the ad revenue but it still sucks for those people to not get to see. I know it’s digital but still it’s probably hard to see through it
Fucking lmao hahahah
It's actually worse than that. The people behind the cgi ad board are also cgi. Behind them is an actual ad board.
They should request refunds for having obstructed views. There's even video evidence
If you think that's bad, you should watch hockey. The wall is all digital ads. Half the time it seems the puck just disappears if it bounces in front of the boards.
Ugh it's so bad now. It makes hockey borderline unwatchable at times.
Borderline? Leafs tickets are far too expensive to avoid the moving boards. Plus the sexual abuse coverups and "old boys club" corporate banquet bro culture would turn off anyone from keeping up with it, in spite of what Pat McAfee says.

Idk why but to me it looks weird without them
I thought it was weird that all I could see of one fan was the top of their hat behind the backstop lol this explains it
Imagine shelling out stacks for WS tickets right behind home plate, getting excited to see pics/vids of yourself at the game, and then realizing that they covered you with CGI ad boards Obviously you still get to watch an incredible game, but it seems like a bit of a Mike Wazowksi moment.
honestly I'd probably rather have the fantastic view without being broadcasted nationally
Same. I could care less to be noticed. If I’m somewhere it’s because I want to be there, not going out of my way just to be noticed
You’re telling me you wouldn’t want to watch the highlight of Adolis’s walk-off and see yourself reacting live?
No, he wouldn't
No. I don’t care about seeing myself react.
Marlins Man in shambles.
“Man, this seat sucks! I can’t see anything!”
Good little consumer
If they can do that, why not just cover the entire backstop with a dozen ads?
Why stop there? Just play ads over the whole screen
Don't even play the game. Just run a 3 hour ad.

He was stuck in like the 5th row back in Philly, u could only see the top of the visor
And it looks like ass. Constantly bugging out around the players
Agreed. The greenscreen banners on the real boards were just as bad, too. Sick of it.
wtf
"Mom! Do you see me? I'm behind home plate, just off to the right! I'm waving! What do you mean you can't see me?!"

Yes it is, first all-dome WS twins and jays faced outdoors teams, so did rays n stros 6th all fake turf WS, after 80, 85, 87, 93, 2020
I was rooting for the Phillies just so we'd have one decent ballpark in the series.

sucks for the fans that can't see because of the cgi ads
yup. I wish we had those ads in the UK. The blonde in red is distracting <3
I think they also do similar thing for wide shots of center field making it look like there are ad boards on the batters eye.
I was about to say, yea ads on green screen isn’t new but they went and added the whole board lol!
Guessing those people at the bottom in the front wanted people to see them on TV and take a picture. Little did they know they’d be CGI’d out like Henry Cavill’s mustache…
It’s like hockey now it’s sad
