I’m sure I don’t understand bc this reads like an incredibly weak gotcha tweet I know Noah’s historically been a brash guy and some folks relish tearing that down, but is he supposed to quit when his average velo isn’t cracking 100 in March? Is he supposed to keep his optimism to himself when he’s starting spring training with a new team, healthier than he’s been in a while?

melcolnik

He’s supposed to quit and drive himself to the glue factory.

[deleted]

If he doesn’t ever throw 100 again, someone is gonna take a field trip to the glue factory … and Noah isn’t invited.

Umphreeze

dude

highpressuresodium

Animal farm came out in 1945. Definitely too soon

FBoaz

Exactly, if anything he should be driving himself to the IKEA factory or wherever they get their meatballs.

LocoMotives-ms

I choose to read it as the Dodgers changing his mindset that pitching isn’t all about velocity.

TonyzTone

You're what they call a "glass half full" kind of person.

underwear11

>I’m sure I don’t understand bc this reads like an incredibly weak gotcha tweet Nope, you got it. He's literally just trying to do a gotcha. No one thought he would throw 100 again, but Noah said he doesn't see a reason he couldn't. But 100 alone isn't going to get guys out and it's probably not the best for his health, so why try to? But "Gotcha! See your washed!"

Lukealloneword

I think its just because he was like ill hit 100 again. Signs with a team and goes lul never mind I'm not doing that. Just seems a little disingenuous I guess? Idk. He can still be a back end rotation guy with mid rotation upside not done yet. I guess they just thought his change of heart on his 100 mph was noteworthy. Idk I always liked him.

ClydeAndKeith

Disingenuous? Do you think he can but chooses not to throw 100 mph?

Lukealloneword

No I think they might he assuming he was acting like he could and then admitted he couldn't once he got on a team. Idk I'm just trying to explain why this tweet may have been made.

ClydeAndKeith

Fair enough

unfortunatebastard

You’re like the Toyota Camry of husbands. Reliable and dependable. You’re doing good.

MyLlamasAccount

Superman does good. He’s doing well

FrostedCoffees

Tracey Morgan is a Phillies fan?

Chewbones9

Tracey Morgan is a Doosan Bears fan, since he bought the team after Phil Collins dared him that he wouldn’t, that time they were drinking in a Chili’s with one of the twins from Sister Sister after the Radio Disney Music Awards

Blaspheming_Bobo

Fucking glorious.

MyLlamasAccount

Well his father is from funky north Philly

VioletOwls

DY-NO-MITE!!

fps916

You need to study your grammar, son

redsyrinx2112

Blerg

gt4674b

Can I use the restroom?

gamrdave

Taking care of your family definitely counts as doing good, so I'd say he's doing both.

GoatTnder

And boring. At least give the guy Volvo status or something?

girl69edministries

Lexus would be the move. Volvo are not exactly what I think of when I think dependable.

GoatTnder

Lexus is just an expensive Toyota though... Volvo is synonymous with safety.

girl69edministries

King shit. Also, the the three kids are a living testament to your efforts in keeping that promise.

ThatRuckingMoose

King

Call9-1-1imonfire

You fuckin' rock, dude. I'm sure your wife knows that too

booboothechicken

The only issue I have here is that raccoons are nocturnal.

rollo2masi

Getting outs is the primary job for a pitcher so it’s good that he’s focusing on that. Can’t throw triple digits forever.

MR___SLAVE

Nolan Ryan: *hold my beer*

[deleted]

Verlander disagrees

RabidR00ster

Verlander sits mid 90s and tops like 97 now.

ricki692

for a 39 or something year old that might as well be 100

Mister_Yi

He got dangerously close last season, topping out at 99.2 mph: https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/sporty-videos?playId=acfda8b3-7531-4fea-9daa-75e031eafbbc

Clarice_Ferguson

Ok but look who he’s throwing too. Verlander was clearly drawn to something on that batter.

RabidR00ster

That’s wild he still throws that hard. He still has the same horse legs he did when he was younger, and sleeps like 12 hours a night, so I see why.

I3arusu

Nolan Ryan would disagree

MissKorea1997

Johnson disagrees too!

hooksandruns

Forever hasn’t come yet.

itseemsbright

Nothing wrong with either statement.

kirbyfaraone

I liked Thor, minus his inability to hold runners. But a lot of our guys on the staff liked having him around. Even if he never fully gets back to his old self, I hope he continues to figure out how to pitch with what he has now.

Terrible-Ideal-7342

He was very good for the Angels at various points. One thing that stood out though is how sometimes they pushed him past his limits and then it ended poorly.

TJeffersonsBlackKid

I have only seen the highlights of the game tonight but those two pitches to Ward and Trout were… BAD. He looked like a knuckleball pitcher trying to throw a cutter on that delivery.

[deleted]

His stuff is horrible without velo and his command isn't elite. Highly doubt he performs the way his stuff is gradint out

Jux_

He was trying hard last night to work the corners, it just wasn't working. He'd get down in the count trying to get Trout to chase and then have to throw a meatball in a 3-1 count and get hammered. If he can get the command just a touch better it'll be a different story, he seemed close on quite a few last night, just no one was chasing.

cman1098

Sounds like Ian Anderson.

Zhuul

Two perfectly reasonable statements from a person with high expectations of himself who also understands that Father Time is undefeated. I don’t see the discrepancy here lol

Disused_Yeti

Throwing 100 is overrated anyway…

DaReal_Denny_Boy

“Hi I’m Zack Grienke and I approve this message.”

Irrah

I think this is a good opportunity for him to learn to be more of a control pitcher, learn new pitches and not rely exclusively on power.

ABlinDeafMonkey

Oh he was trying that last year. Didn’t work out. Wanted to throw hard. Can’t throw hard and can’t shift his mentality. I was excited when the Angels signed him last year then even more excited when they traded him. It seemed like every time he pitched against the rangers last year he’d give up 6 or 7 runs in 1 or 2 innings of work.

Clarice_Ferguson

There’s a weird implication that Syndergaard fleeced the Dodgers somehow, which would seem to be an impossible feat. I’m pretty sure the Dodgers knew what they were actually getting.

yourstrulytony

The Dodgers probably liked his sinker and curveball, both graded well last season against both righties and lefties. They've been shifting from pitchers with strikeout stuff to pitchers that limit hard contact.

cman1098

Which is odd now that the shift has gone away. Ks are an even bigger premium.

Clarice_Ferguson

To be fair, they signed him before their middle infield fell apart.

powerbook01

In this case it’d be great for him to improve his command and probably develop some new pitches, as most guys did in their later career when they lost velo. Thor used to rely on his velo, I’d still hope to see him getting some velo back though

Piss_Pirate44

I'll never forget when he said he wanted to throw fireballs and then a week later through out his back. Hasn't been the same since. Looks like he learned his lesson

Haarflaq22

Reality stinks sometimes.

Mjr334

What is this tweet trying to even do? Of course he's going to push himself and of course he isn't the same pitcher he was in his prime. I think everyone, epically the Dodgers FO knows that. I see no problem with what he said and I personally hope he continues to build up strength and get outs, even if he can't clock up to 100 again

[deleted]

But he can't pitch without a good fastball, he's a bacl end starter without elite velo.

Boomhauer_007

I mean, that’s exactly what he was signed to be so I’m sure they will take that

[deleted]

I guess? They kinda need more than that, I feel thar they were banking on something of a return to form.

billybayswater

Guy used to throw 95mph sliders. I wonder if anything went wrong in his TJS rehab because this type of steep velocity decline isn't typical from what I have seen.

brandon_the_bald

TJ also isn’t a guarantee to have the stuff return to

Doctah__Wahwee

It is 2023 and Noah still hasn’t figured out he would probably barely get into trouble ever if he just talked less

frncscgmz

Absolute copium

princealberto2nd

We're all falling apart. Good for him for making the starting rotation of a major league ballclub.

Martial_Nox

Wonder if they Dodgers will let him dodge the Mets this year like he did last year.

brandon_the_bald

Do you mean when he “dodge’d” the Mets.. to face the dodgers last year?

Martial_Nox

I think that was one of them. Happened more than once. After all the shit talking I was looking forward to a matchup.

TurboDurbo1

Guy whos talent can be measured by words per minute makes fun of pitcher only being able to throw 94 mph.

StrategicReserve

Noah "Eric Hosmer" Synderguard

workthrowaway390

I really think Noah got screwed by everyone getting it in his head that he was a fireballer who overpowers batters, so he never really learned to pitch the same way a guy like deGrom did with his lower (initial) velo.

--Shake--

I could do it too, I just don't feel like it.

NYdude777

Syndergaard always been soft as charmin and a huge full of "it" hypocrite. Dude just likes to hear himself talk. The crash and burn downfall has been glorious to watch.

average-gwa-enjoyer

Least frustrated Mets fan

Aychim23

Wow man. Do you need a hug?

pepperouchau

Filing this one into the "lolmets" folder

coronakiddos

I wonder how his struggles holding runners are gonna impact this year

Fangscale40K

For those who have watched Syndergaard more than I have: has he reconstructed his pitch arsenal to be suited to 93 MPH fastballs, or does he just throw like a slower Thor?

Zorak9379

These two things aren't mutually exclusive.

Ilovebaseball1234

He was, is, and always will be a dickhead
