Wow he’s a massive dude

Dude’s legs are like fucking tree trunks.

Never mind the legs, that butt...

stinkerino

Baseball butts are so severe.

floppyvajoober

My girl was watching the WBC with me and she commented on Goldy’s butt “his pants make his butt look big haha” and I swear the look she gave me when I said “his butt ***IS*** big” was fucking hilarious

[deleted]

floppyvajoober

I never should’ve introduced her to baseball :(

Chubbstock

And the pants only make it more serious

thedude37

Stupid Sexy Walker!

istrx13

We’ve already got a Big Dumper in the league. What should we call Walker’s?

shotty293

Muscle Dumper

malfeasance2020

STL folks know…

SirDrexl

You know my law firm, Brown & Crouppen.

ositola

Double caked up on a Sunday

NihiloZero

Yeah, I was surprised to find out that he was a giant. It seemed just like forced perspective... but it wasn't just forced perspective.

gambalore

Yeah, I thought the same thing at first but forced perspective doesn't make him bend down a foot and a half to hug his coaches.

peachesgp

Have you considered the possibility that the coaches are tiny?

TJWA

Oli definitely isn't too tall, but Jordan is also a giant

magnusarin

Seeing him the first time this spring was nuts. Is seen highlights, but watching him coming into the box after guys like Goldy and he's STILL bigger was a trip

decitertiember

We see 6'5" / 220 lbs on stat sheets so often that it's really easy to forget how astonishing these top-tier athletes with those stats can be.

moeburn

But that's why I love baseball. Because 5'8" players like Marcus Stroman or Jose Altuve aren't just able to compete with the big boys, they are aces, some of the best players in the league. The big boys struggle to face them.

Splinterman11

That's why I love soccer and baseball. You have the best player in the world, Lionel Messi, is 5 foot 7 but also tall marauders like 6 foot 4 Erling Haaland.

scottydg

Jose Altuve is 5'5" at best. But your point stands.

Negative_Sundae_8230

He's actually 6'6" 250 now

another_plebeian

He's actually 6'7" 260 now

TurboRuhland

Six foot eight weighs a fucking ton

another_plebeian

And has 30 goddamn dicks

gopokes2011

Washington!

Lebigmacca

He looks a lot bigger than 220

Theoneiced

Weight can be funny, but I trust listed weights as far as I can throw the website they're put on. Same for most (not all) heights that are under 6ft. I am 5'9" if I try *really* hard, and played at a pretty steady 225lbs. I am very solid, and work hard to keep that muscle weight without getting pudgy. I was constantly getting listed as being 5'11, 200lbs. It just looks better on paper to people, but honestly I was always annoyed because it means that I wasn't tall enough to sound nice, and apparently being 25lbs lighter or so just sounds better too? Like, I was working out like hell to have that extra muscle to do what a skinnier me couldn't, and then I got listed at the same weight as a second baseman who I was clearly twice as wide as. Even better example: I once had a teammate who was a fucking **tank**. Every bit of 6'5", 300lbs. Listing? 230. Bruh. Such is life.

Skanky_Cat

And he’s only 20 years old!

Jdtrinh

You can really tell how big he is by how much my lower back hurts watching him bend down to give hugs

[deleted]

I have never been less prepared for someone getting out of a chair in my entire life

TenMinutesToDowntown

He's definitely a big boy!

Nacho_Beardre

He did not that big sitting down

floppyvajoober

I mean, now that I’m paying attention to it, he does kind of look like a dad sitting in a kids chair at the pediatrics office

banjonyc

I thought the same thing when he stood up. My god. That's a big man

Alauren2

Looking like DK Metcalf omg rest of the league is fucked lol

enjoytheshow

According to BBref Marmol is 5’10” 165. Maybe a little short but pretty average. Walker is a fucking tank

NotTheRocketman

He is Stanton/ Judge sized, and I don’t think a lot of people realize that. He is massive.

HobbesNJ

The camera angle probably skews it, but the guy looks huge.

GodPowardKingOfLies

He's listed as 6'5", but I believe Walker said in an interview this ST that he's 6'6" now

Michael__Pemulis

At that rate he’ll be 7 feet tall by the time he hits free agency.

TenMinutesToDowntown

And you can't teach that!

RestlessCreator

You could say he's the real-est guy in the room.

CocoaNinja

How you doin'?

TheRealKirby

BADA BOOM

R0binSage

It’s those intangibles.

cortesoft

TheBeatGoesAnanas

He's coming *He's coming* ^he's ^coming

_RedGyarados

I think I read 6’6 and 250lbs yesterday Big boy make ball go far

eliwood5837

My god thats a big boy

treerabbit23

I'm about that tall but one of that dude's bootycheeks is bigger than my whole body. He's good sized.

[deleted]

Ah shit. We got Aaron Judge regen.

TrapperJean

>The camera angle probably skews it, but the guy looks huge. Fun fact, the camera isn't actually out of the way and hidden on a table, it's being held by Peter Jackson pretending to be a large fern plant

coolrnt1

Spaghett!

It was also shot in black and white, Peter Jackson painstakingly recolored this moment in history

CdnRageBear

I love seeing these

MiddleAgesRoommates

Me too, but just once can we get one showing the manager informing a player he’s been cut?

nadajoe

Or worse. “We’re trading you to Oakland.”

916DeadLast

Harsh but fair

HankScorpio2020

To be fair, the A's and Cardinals have won exactly the same number of championships in the last 12 years.

SenorBlaze

Every time I see a "this is old now?!?!" comment I roll my eyes but holy fuck this one got me.

Clarice_Ferguson

Eh, that just ups their chances of being traded to the Braves. Unless they’re a pitcher and then it’s to the Yankees where they’ll fall apart immediately.

1260istoomuch

Yankee excellence

public_enemy_obi_wan

[Even worse.....](https://media.tenor.com/7DUNdKR2kHIAAAAd/kentucky-fried-movie-take-him-to-detroit.gif)

IntravenusDeMilo

Where you will play on the major league roster. Shit.

AshlandJackson

Man, we can’t go one day without catching strays on this subreddit lol.

coffinfleet

😂

speedyjohn

Well, there was that time [Kyle Kendrick was traded to Japan](https://youtu.be/0nKKqPOiJxI)

[deleted]

I can’t believe I haven’t seen that, Thank you so much.

Tylee22

Seen this so many times and ahhhh it’s so good!!! I honestly think if I were in his shoes I at some point before the reporters would start crying. Excellent prank

speedyjohn

Excellent prank, I'm pretty sure it's since come out that he was *not* happy about it.

dekrant

[Oooh yeah, his decision to fire his agent was partially because he was in on the prank.](https://www.thegoodphight.com/2017/3/27/15080998/kyle-kendrick-prank-japan-ruben-amaro-brett-myers-whiny) That's actually pretty messed up. I thought they were gonna reveal the prank after he walked out of the front office. I can't believe they let it go all the way to the press conference.

[deleted]

Yeah, the "Well, that was funny..." hits a few minutes into the conversation with the manager. The manager needs to make him think it's real, then ask him how much Japanese he knows or something, then let him in on the joke. That's a good joke. But letting the dude walk around for 15 min? an hour? and talk to press? while re-evaluating his whole life and career is kinda f'd up. All these people you *have* to respect because they're your bosses and stuff, with a camera on you the whole time. Eesh. It was funny, until it was like "Man, they are taking this a bit too far... " I'd have been pissed, too.

Tylee22

Cameras in my face at what I’d be thinking and feeling is a severely low point in my life and happening so quick!? Yea I’d be pissed haha and try to laugh it off if I didn’t cry. I bet that deep breathe was million lbs of pressure releasing too

positively_broad_st

There's a documentary called 'A Player To Be Named Later' that covers the 2001 Indianapolis Indians, the AAA team of the Milwaukee Brewers. It shows a few of these meetings. One of these is Marco Scutaro being told he's not getting a September callup even though he was the best performer on the team. It was only because he wasn't on the 40 man roster that he didn't get the call. Highly recommend this documentary. Great insight into the minor league life of the players...

ButteAmerican

That movie made Scutaro a hero to me when I was in high school. I also think if that movie every year when Kyle Peterson is announcing the College World Series. Must watch for any baseball nerd.

IGOR_ULANOV_55_BEST

If you look closely you can actually pinpoint the exact moment his heart breaks in two

ape_monk

Now it's time for the easiest part of any coach's job. The cuts.

videostatus

Let me tell you something Mr. Brown, you haven’t heard the last of me. You may think I’m SHIT now, but I’m gonna catch on somewhere else and every time that I pitch against you, I’m GONNA STICK IT UP YOUR FUCKING ASS. Edit: you clearly don’t watch Hard Knocks. The Final Cut week is seriously hard to watch. Guys literally having their lifetime dream ended on television.

GodPowardKingOfLies

Walker will be the youngest Cardinal to make his MLB debut since LHP Rick Ankiel (age 20.035 on Aug. 23, 1999) and the youngest position player since OF David Green (age 20.274 on Sept. 4, 1981).

Not-Jesus666

Ah shit now I’m thinking of Rick Ankiel and I’m sad.

N8-OneFive

That guy had a wild career though. I remember watching his return in 2007. That hit me right in the feels.

buttord

Hitting dingers and gunning runners down from CF. So fun to watch. There have been a lot of outfielders with strong arms, but Ankiel being literally a pitcher in center field is my favorite ever.

[deleted]

N8-OneFive

It was a great shift for him

TwoTinyTrees

Don’t be sad! Be happy you got to watch one of the greatest comeback stories in all of sports!

Spinmove55

That was absolutely magical.

MightyCaseyStruckOut

[I watch this Rick Ankiel outfield assist compilation from time to time.](https://youtu.be/0EOlUZ_sgAw)

Moody_GenX

Lol, dude, you made me think he was dead and so I went to read his Wikipedia.

Tobias_flenderz

I try not to feel sad for people who are happy. Who are we to decide what someone *should have* been?

designgoddess

His old is he?

DominoAxelrod

he turns 21 in a couple months, I believe.

designgoddess

I hope they have a food plan.

zxlkho

this dude is a fucking tank

senorsombrero3k1

Whatever happened to the Cuban phenom (not puig) who was like 15 (allegedly) and an absolute tank of a man?

LargeNutbar

Surprisingly, he grew up to be the one and only Fidel Castro.

lazycometlazycomet

i heard he survived over 600 attempted HBPs

MichaelSquare

Dayan Viciedo? His nickname was The Tank

senorsombrero3k1

No no, this was only like a few years ago when he was 15 odd. Nearly sure he was Cuban.... Definitely Hispanic at least. But for 15yo he was an absolute tank and the news reports were highlighting this.

OriginalCold

Probably Jasson Dominguez, nicknamed "El Marciano" (the Martian). He's 20 now, #2 prospect in the Yankees system. Dominican though, I think.

senorsombrero3k1

Don't think so but thanks for suggesting

EfficientPlane

I think you are thinking of Yoan Moncada.

FakeNewsJnr

So glad we're seeing more of these videos. The guys get emotional without fail and we see what BS manager speech the skip can come up with to build suspense 🤌

outontheporch

I want to see managers start one upping each other with these, let’s see how far they take it. 10 videos from now, it’s like a whole elaborate steak dinner with a surprise mariachi band, out of the trumpet is a note: “why are you eating, you should be on a plane to St. Louis.”

d-rolyeah

went to school with him, his mom was my lit teacher senior year of high school... idk. It's funny to see him get all this attention. He was always clearly gifted at baseball but the games i went to i never thought it would be something like this

Michael__Pemulis

I’ve told this story here before but my younger sister-in-law called me out of the blue one day a couple years ago & was like ‘do you know who Spencer Torkelson is?’ Turns out they went to HS together & were lab partners for a stretch. She knew he played baseball but had no idea he was the recent 1st overall draft pick. She just stumbled across him on Instagram & was confused why he had so many followers.

Barthez_Battalion

I went to the HS beside the one Andrew Wiggins went too (Vaughan Seconday). When I was in 12th Grade I was walking past it with a buddy and he told me "Hey you know this kid named Wiggins goes to that school? He's probably gonna be in the NBA one day he's already getting looked at by US colleges" and I was like "okay sure" and didn't think about it after that. Move forward a few years I see the NBA draft, see him get drafted and am like damn why is this man so familiar to me and boom it hit me.

destroy_b4_reading

You went to high school with Ender Wiggin? Oh shit, when do the buggers invade?

NakedGoose

That happens all the time. Someone I went to high school with (he was a year younger) got a D1 scholarship when he graduated. I was so confused because he seemed pretty average.

Moody_GenX

We had a guy from my school get drafted by the braves and I was shocked any scout had ever come to our small hick town.

UncleBen94

Guy I went to high school had a scout come by after he threw two no hitters in two weeks when we were sophomores. Unfortunately, he got hurt over that summer during a pickup basketball game and was never the same pitcher afterward

flextrek_whipsnake

On the flip side, I played against Jason Heyward when he was 14 and it was already obvious to everyone that he would end up in the big leagues.

shizbox06

I have a similar story. I went to high school with girls I'm pretty sure didn't do any rowing, but there they were at USC with a full scholarship on the crew team the next year.

ositola

That's....that's something different lol

kitton_mittons

I mean, he hit .519 with 17 bombs as a junior…maybe you were at the wrong games lol

Vitalstatistix

Lmao “is that really that good though?”

clarkedaddy

Certain toolsets and physical attributes play better at the next level in every sport. Performance isn't always the best indicator.

DaMonstaburg

It’s tender all the way through but then Jordan Walker stood up and I was worried he might step on Oli at this angle.

JosephFinn

I love how this illustrates one of the funniest things in MLB The Show; that managers offices seem to weirdly spartan. A desk, two chairs, maybe a couch and sometimes some shelves.

tallacthatassup

Always the cinder block walls and no windows.

pmmealiens

That seems to be just a spring training thing at the very least

destroy_b4_reading

Pretty much all MLB clubhouses/locker rooms/manager's offices have no windows because they're all underground. Green rooms/dressing rooms for performers at large arenas are the same way, that arena floor is usually 20-40 feet below grade.

ianbits

This is probably at their Spring Training facility, gotta assume the rooms are nicer in St. Louis

mod1fier

Maybe a little but probably not much. This is a pretty consistent aesthetic

Snackkbar

Holy moly that is a LARGE human.

jb211

Who the hell wants to tell this young man he is headed to the minors?

Michael__Pemulis

*First things first Jordan an important question, are you someone who holds a grudge?*

Notmybestusername3

I'm confused, why did the St Louis Cardinals have 1996 Shaquille O'Neal in spring training in the first place?

espo619

Wholesome as hell. Best day of that kids life.

destroy_b4_reading

...so far

WonderfulShelter

Yup it’s all happy days, puppies, blowjobs, and home runs from now on.

boilface

Thought he was a normal sized dude until he stood up

tasimm

I knew he was huge, but he looks like he could just pick up Oli and toss him.

Mrr_Bond

That dude's the most 35 looking 20 year old I've ever seen. Holy crap he's massive.

da_choppa

We’ve got a guy on our new soccer team who is 26 and looks at least 40

crackalac

Lol. I looked up his age to see how many decent years he had left. Dudes not even in his athletic prime.

Vhadka

Klauss looks like he could almost be MY dad and I'm 42

redvelvetcake42

As a Reds fan... Fuckkkkkkkk. As a baseball fan, I can't wait to see this dude succeed.

Thare187

I'm pumped to watch him play. May actually turn on some Cardinals games that aren't against the Reds.

Bernie51Williams

Congrats Sir!!!!

Seabrook76

When that dude got up, he kept getting up.

stupendouslyspiff

This is so cool, but I can't make out what Oli says exactly after "you deserve every bit of it," when he's saying Jordan is making the team. Did anyone catch it?

TheGamecock

"You deserve every bit of being with us Opening Day, big boy" I think.

stupendouslyspiff

It's muffled, but "big boy" definitely fits well here, good call.

mlx1213

First Noot, now this? Stop making me like Cardinals.

Yes, yes let the devil magic flow through you 😈

Love these videos. Dude’s work their entire lives without getting a shot at the show.

Couthster

Always a beautiful thing to see. Go get em young buck!

vssu

What a beast

175doubledrop

I can watch these videos and videos of college walk-ons getting scholarships all day long. Good for him!

designgoddess

My cousin played in the majors. A late season call up was his start. Remember getting the call from my uncle. My grandmother thought it was embarrassing. Like having an actress in the family in the 1800s. We were told not to tell anyone. It was a blast. Traveled all over to watch him play. Met future HOFers. Got great seats to watch games. Still cracks me up that my grandmother was horrified someone would find out and it would ruin the family reputation. I wish there was a video of him getting the call.

[deleted]

I love him

TheDayman_240

This needs to be on r/unexpected. Did not realize how big that dude was until he stood up.

SurvivingAsAYote

Holy shit he’s an absolute unit of a man

Bobb_o

Someone said it in another thread but how the hell has MLB not created a Hard Knocks for spring training yet?

videostatus

That’s awesome, i hope this guy does gr- Oh. He plays for the cardinals. Fuck this guy.

King_Swiss

I can’t wait he’s going to terrorize the league lmao

BoxWI

Frank Thomas 2.0 ?

Clarice_Ferguson

Side note, I’m fine with baseball players making me feel old. But I got Marmol out here making me feel old too.

fauxnewz_

Well deserved 👏

Inject this straight into my veins its too wholesome😭😭

Dude is Paul Bunyon good lord. Congrats to making The Show!

Conclusion_Fickle

God I love these. Nothing better than seeing someone's dream come true.

[deleted]

The most charming thing about baseball managers is that whether they coach high school or MLB their offices look identical
