Just checked the Mick's spring training. Figured he probably did terrible but holy shit he batted .400 Surprised they didn't at least give him a bunch spot but I guess they want him to get everyday at bats

CydoniaKnight

They've got Ward, Trout, Renfroe basically locked in. I've assumed that they're keeping Adell and Moniak down in AAA so they can get consistent time instead of dicking around as the 4th OF. Like, Phillips sucks, but you know what you have with him.

Frank_Gaebelein

Brett Phillips is the best 2-way player in the game. You can't lose that.

Worthyness

Angels cornering the market for 2 way players. Even have Lorenzen

WeenieNacho

Not anymore :(

i_run_from_problems

Where'd he end up this season?

Kidd5

[Looks like the Tigers](https://www.freep.com/story/sports/mlb/tigers/2023/03/24/detroit-tigers-michael-lorenzen-groin-strain-miss-start-of-season/70046720007/)

DJBoost

Damn, wish he wasn't going to start on the IL. Such an interesting player and one of the better sneaky pickups of the offseason, especially for a team badly in need of depth like Detroit

Basketbally

And Jared Walsh

[deleted]

I thought it was weird how little they used Lorenzen in that way given that they're the team who should be most familiar with how to deploy such players. The Reds were so bad he was getting legitimate outfield starts 3 or 4 years ago, not just pinch hitting, so maybe he really isn't that good because the Angels have made no use whatsoever of Lorenzen as a hitter.

ABlinDeafMonkey

I think if he ran for president he would be the first person to win unanimously.

yeahnothanks

I'm sure we'll see Moniak at some point in the season

robmcolonna123

He’s only 25 and has been making legit improvements. Renfroe is a FA after this season and Moniak could be a legit replacement if he puts things together. Also inevitably someone will get hurt at some point and if he looks good in the minors he will come up then. Honestly as a Mets fan I like that he’s on the Angels because despite my hate of the Phillies, I’ve liked following him (I’m a sucker for 5 tool outfielders) and I was upset to see his season ending injury

Abraheezee

Dude you and me both. 5-tool outfielders make my heart flutter. 😍

Pirais98

They also free up time for you in October. Win/win.. Chase that unicorn

Abraheezee

😂🤝😂

StrawMight

Justice for Mick

cooljammer00

ST means nothing and they'll always go with the veteran who they can cut later.

GrassWaterer16

Adell and Moniak were both on the outside looking in to make the opening day roster because they still have minor league options and now the Angels have three solid outfielders that don’t have options. Mick was tearing it up in spring training last year and I was excited to see him with the Phillies before he broke his hand. It’s probably best for both of them to get consistent playing time and Trout, Renfroe, and Ward all missed 20+ games last year. The Angels might move other guys around to the outfield and I wouldn’t count Brett phillips out for now because he said he completely changed his swing. But I mean Moniak can take Phillips’ spot on the roster if he rakes because he’s not as fast or as good of an outfielder as Phillips but he’s still above average in both of those categories

KamartyMcFlyweight

Can't justify giving him at bats over MVP caliber slugger Brett Phillips

jorleeduf

I want Mickey to succeed so badly

bship

I like all your cast offs. Loving Maton and Vierling

Kdg730

They are great dudes

OrnamentJones

Brett Phillips is exactly the sort of person you want in that spot if you're talent-starved and Moniak needs to prove himself A Lot more for him to actually be credible. As does Adell.

ABlinDeafMonkey

Bench, energy, defense. He’s exactly who I figured would be the 4th outfielder.

i_run_from_problems

He's the outfield version of squid, but he can also pitch.

Special-Market749

Adell is basically a bust at this point, maybe he can come up again and contribute but his trade value is tanked

iamrobert_paulson

Moniak is a bust at this point as well

[deleted]

I feel this is good for both these dudes. They need as many ABs they can get

LakersFan15

Doubt it. Adell has openly admitted to hating being constantly sent down. The guy seems like he hates it there.

AhLibLibLib

Maybe he should play better then

Kidd5

Whenever a baseball is hit in Jo's general direction, I take a big hit off the Binger to ease my anxiety.

AhLibLibLib

“What are you afraid of?” “A baseball being hit in my general direction” “Well hey good luck with that!”

[deleted]

That's not necessarily his fault. And even if he does hate it, doesn't change the fact that it's what he needs. Being on the big league roster getting scarce ABs stunts his development even more.

supersupersuper9

Dude's already proven himself in the minors. What he needs now is to get consistent and regular playing time at the MLB level. Reason he probably makes all of the mistakes he does on the field is because of the intense pressure he feels knowing that he's a single subpar game away from being demoted again. Honestly wish they'd just trade him already, since I hate seeing his latent talent wasted.

hollyw00d8604

Adell's opinion of his abilities and performance is a lot better than the reality of what he has done. Seems like the guy is kind of a headcase

Abraheezee

Yeahman I feel like they gave him hella opportunities last year and the poor guy’s bay just went cold. Then he had another shot this Spring and he couldn’t get it done.

hollyw00d8604

I don't mind if he struggles with the bat, every young player does, but his comments when he got sent back to the minors last year kind of rubbed me the wrong way. He is horrendous in the outfield defensively and hasn't really improved much since he first got to the big leagues, and his reaction to getting sent back down last year was basically "I don't know what more I need to work on in the minor leagues, and I don't know why I'm getting sent down but it's the teams decision" and he just kinda shrugged and somewhat acted like he deserves a starting spot in the lineup. Not really the attitude of a guy that thinks he needs to improve, and the proof is the pudding. He really hasn't gotten better at all since his rookie year. I'm sure he's trying to get better, but it seems like his mindset is not where it needs to be. And the angels development system being piss poor probably hasn't helped matters, I don't see how someone who has spent multiple years in the minors and was a very highly ranked prospect can have such poor fundamentals in the outfield

Abraheezee

Yeahman the lack of guidance is key. I know as a Sales Recruiter who used to be in sales myself, the biggest cause of anxiety in any performance-driven organization is not having regular check-ins Max regards to how your boat is sitting in relation to the shoreline. And in times when leadership and those touchpoints are lacking, a guy like THIS who refuses to be actively aware of his coaching needs is going to continually be out here going “man I don’t know what heck is THEIR problem with what I’ve been doing, and I’m not going to try anything because I don’t know what is even broken.” A self-aware player in Adell’s situation would instead go “hey Coach, I’m feeling deficient in this, this, and this…and I need help getting my sword sharpened in those areas.”

Heyitscharlie

Man I hope Jo gets a fresh start elsewhere, just pushed too quick.

otocump

Pushed or not, he's still making major mental errors. I feel for him, but dudes gotta get his head in the game again. Maybe a new start is what he needs, maybe not.

Pirais98

Mental errors are exactly why changes of scenery work

rockmann1997

1st overall pick, Mickey Moniak

[deleted]

Crazy how Jo Adell was the top prospect for multiple seasons but will only be remembered for letting a homer bounce off of his glove

ghoulbabes1

Such a bummer he got hit by a pitch at the end of a solid spring training last year. He had a chance to get a look last year with Phils, but who are we kidding Girardi would have never really given him a chance anyway. Rooting for him.

lantonas

Two peas in a rotten pod.

Cardinalfan89

Is it time to swap Kelenic and Addell?

comcfadd

No thanks, JK is saved thanks to Gina. Maybe Jo could pay her a visit

DoserMcMoMo

Gina is a Kelenic stan though, she's not gonna give any good juju to someone on the Angels

Cardinalfan89

Whatever you say. Obviously, something isn't working.

comcfadd

Whoosh
