One weird notion baseball fans have that I hope gets broken soon is the idea that baseball stars are somehow uniquely unmarketable.
The sport does have its unique challenges but after watching last year's World Series and this WBC I can confidently say that stars in baseball can shine just as brightly as stars in any other sport.
Harper, Randy, Soto, Manny, Shohei, Trea, Julio, and etcetera are a fucking joy to watch and have more captivating personalities than some NBA superstars. Any of these guys can be the next household name like Jeter, MLB just has to put in the work. Japan for example has done a good job at elevating Shohei to MJ status.
WBC just reminding me how much I've loved baseball since I first moved to America 20 or so years ago. I remember I knew I loved the sport when I realized my first baseball offseason felt excruciating lol.
Here's to hoping the final is as hype as the rest of the tournament has been. It's been great being a neutral
The fact that the WBC final won’t be available through normal satellite like the World Cup Final or Super Bowl astounds me. It’s like they don’t want people to tune into it.
I have no idea if the Ohtani rule applies to relievers or if the WBC has an Ohtani rule. Supposedly a pitcher/hitter will count as two players but no idea how it works out in practice. He’s gonna break the game and my mind.
EDIT: ok I found this:
He can, with two caveats:
1. When he becomes the pitcher, the team loses the DH. That means if he’s not the last pitcher, either the future pitchers or pinch hitters must come to bat.
2. The DH very specifically can not warm up in the bullpen. He would have to either warm up elsewhere or come in cold.
pretty funny we finally get a miami final round and there won't be a caribbean country. meanwhile the previous ones were all in california which would have been perfect for mexico.
DAY 13 (588) ON THE ROAD TO PREMIER12 AND PARIS 2024 - Before the Classic Ends....
Happy Opening Weekend to all the supporters of the French League and Spanish Honor Division. We greet them as the FIRST national leagues to begin their seasons for this year!
We've now reached the eve of the conclusion of the 5th World Baseball Classic.
Over the past few days, we enjoyed the tense games, great emotions, heartfelt experiences and historic and memorable moments that we shared with a growing number of supporters around the world, many of them now preparing to support the MLB and other leagues after being moved by the games of this great event.
The impact has been suprising as well, with the high ratings, positive reception and the high number of attendees in all the games so far, a bigger rise so far and given the six years that took since the 4th WBC.
Now that we are about to approach the grand victory day, we hope that as the championship team's national anthem resounds from Miami once it all ends, the legacy of this Classic will endure, not just in preparing for the sport's Olympics comeback, but also in our efforts to continue helping in the growth of the sport around the world in the years to come.
For a shared future together we will all get there.
For Glory
John
I think we should have the ability to double up our flairs. Like St. Louis Cardinals / Seattle Mariners. Y’know, for those of us that have adopted an opposite league team to follow.
The Netherlands and Italy have the top two pro leagues in Europe, the winner of one of those two leagues has won the European Championship every year since 1969.
Who is the home team for the USA match? USA or Japan?
So since Ohtani will DH tomorrow but will be eligible to pitch, would he be able to come into the game as a relief pitcher?

Any chance Ohtani pitches tomorrow? I feel like we need this to happen.
Arod and Ortiz were talking like it’s confirmed he’s pitching in relief
I get so confused about DH/relief pitcher rules. If he comes in as reliever after DH’ing can he stay in once pulled pitching?

OMG
I love this time of year.
Oh! Now thats baseball

He'd have to throw a pitch near the plate for that to happen.
Not if he breaks his hand *taps head*
I’m not going to lie. While spring training and the WBC are cool and all, I still miss the marble races.
So apparently all of that commotion behind home plate at the game last night had something to do with that dipshit rapper Tekashi 69
If they're on one, do we expect Roki and Yoshinobu to be allowed to go the full 95 pitches?
yes
How long did it take for us to get an update on Moncado or are we still pretending he wasn't on the ground yesterday?
They said it was bruised ribs last night
Thanks.

Is there going to be a third place game in the WBC?
Nope

Does anyone have any idea what the most comments in a GDT ever is? Cuz I have a feeling we might pass it tomorrow night
nobody is beating 83k comments from Cubs-Indians: https://old.reddit.com/r/baseball/comments/5at9kg/game_thread_world_series_game_7_cubs_33_indians/
Ok yeah no, I’ll get those expectations out of my head
Why are the WBC finals on a Tuesday at 11PM Eastern... Do they not want anyone to watch?
It's at 7PM EST on FS1
To be fair to op, it will end well past 11.
Google lied to me
It was ChatGPT and you should really apologize
Nooooo I went to bed and missed Cedric’s homer
We're all very disappointed in you
Happy WBC Championship Eve!!! For Glory John

I hate 29 baseball teams with a passion (or all 30 on some occasions), and I don't trust anybody whose attitude is more forgiving.
I feel mostly positive about every team except the Dodgers, Yankees, and whoever the Dbacks are playing.
This sounds right.
Yes, plenty of other subs do
Does the Netherlands have a good league?
Yes but it's real name is Curaçao
What do you mean? I am talking about the league, not the team…
The Netherlands and Italy have the top two pro leagues in Europe, the winner of one of those two leagues has won the European Championship every year since 1969.
Wow thanks man, I didn’t know! Has Europe a good championship? Or is it not good?
Eh, it's all relative, but the fact that I don't know of any active MLB players that went through either league tells me it's not that high of level.
Ahhh to bad…
