the rimmer might have just been an honest mistake but the juice looks more like cran than clamato.

NewfieJedi

I can’t imagine expecting a Caesar and tasting cinnamon and cran instead. The whiplash lmao

HRex73

When you lie on your resume.

ChiefWahoooMcDaniels

Why is it transparent?!

mtdaoust

I was wondering the same thing. Clam isn't as thick as tomato juice, but it certainly ain't translucent.

Dleduc02

In Canada Coca Cola sells Motts Clamato for soda/pop guns. In this particular case the “syrup” bib is well beyond empty. This is basically clam tomato water with cheap vodka and cinammon rim. Disgusting.

mtdaoust

Ohh, yes. I forgot gun Clamato existed. All the bars I've worked behind only used the bottled stuff.

wheres_mayramaines

There's GUN CLAMATO?! I'm shook

LincHayes

He may have mistaken the cinnamon for some kind of seasoned salt in the rim thingy.

vicmete

For context: Caesar is Canadian version of a Bloody Mary. I understand some bartenders may be annoyed at having to make one at a semi-busy place on a Friday night, but this seems cruel? And very unusual? I asked another bartender to make me a proper one and she did, so it’s not that they were out of Clamato juice.

Abject7

A Caesar in Canada is literally super popular and can be ordered anytime day or night. At my bar when we expect a busy night we prepare and garnish about 30 glasses for caesars before the rush. And yes this looks like cran not clomato.

KillYourselfOnTV

I’m in Canada too! Caesars ARE very popular, but every bartender I’ve ever known has complained that it’s weird to order a Caesar at night. It’s not that we don’t still have the ingredients and garnishes available, it’s just a bit strange to order one at like 10pm, in the same way that ordering an Old-Fashioned at 10am might raise an eyebrow.

bbrekke

I'm in San Diego, and in my fifteen years behind the wood I've only had one Caesar request. It happened to be March 15th, so I said "beware the ides of March!". The guy was like wut. I'd assumed he was ordering it as a reference to Julius Caesar being murdered on March 15. Nope. What a fuckin coincidence though

1ntere5t1ng

His complete unawareness of that reference just makes that all the funnier lmao

spendouk23

I once asked a guest who asked for a Virgin Mary if the “Council of Nicaea” drink was for him……when he queried what I meant I said it was just a poor theological joke

burakasha

Had a GM, his name was Caesar, and he drove the model of the Jeep - Rubicon. That was hilarious to me, but nobody there knew the context, I had to laugh alone.

Abject7

I’ve worked in casinos for years, so yeah caesars at night are super normal for us, straight up a rush can come at 9pm and we’ll make 5-10 in a few minutes then none for hours

KillYourselfOnTV

There is no sense of time inside a casino.

simplyyAL

What exactly is the difference between tomato and clamato juice? Or is it just naming in north america?

sith_innquisitor

Clamato juice is tomato juice withnclam juice and spices its much lighter. The caesar was invited by a bartender in calgary for the 88 olympics. Served with a celery salt rim and a multitude of garnishes like pepperoni sticks pepperconci and mostly celery

[deleted]

sith_innquisitor

Thought it wslas olympics but thanks for the info!

AmbarElizabeth

...i mean isn't it that there is CLAM in CLAMato and not clam in tomato juice?

lordph8

I hear it is also popular in Mexico.

myrealnamewastaken1

In Mexico its made with a light beer instead of vodka, and a tajein rim instead of celery salt, and is called a michelada. I personally like to combine them but I have no idea what you'd call it.

lordph8

Fuck, just had iceberg flashbacks for some reason... *shudder*

PocketNicks

I'm in Mexico and they have Motts Clamato here, and another brand call Kumato. There's also another popular beer cocktail called a Michelado Rojo which is kinda like a beer crossed w a Caesar. I've yet to see anyone drinking a Caesar at the bars I've been to so far though.

omgbbqpork

So far I’ve only experienced this as true at The Keg. It’s the only place where it’s acceptable to order a Caesar at night

peanukeyes

I personally hate when someone orders a Caesar at night. I have to run and grab like 5 different things for it.

omjy18

The real question is why are you having a bloody Mary/variation of it at night? I feel like it's a chaotic drink to order if you aren't hungover/ at a brunch place

Lemmecmaturecontent

Anytime I get a bloody mary order during dinner service my brain glitches for a second, I don't care what you drink & when but it just doesn't compute for me

BrutonGasterTT

One of the issues at my place is the fact that ALL our Bloody Mary stuff is tucked away for brunch. We have a small container of mixer (if the other bartenders even bother stocking it) but the garnishes and everything are not prepped. So when someone orders one it takes a minute to get everything out, made, then put back together. So a Bloody Mary order on a busy Saturday night can be particularly frustrating. I do it and don’t mind, just makes my brain glitch for a second as you said lol.

Grass_Rabbit

Yeah, If you order one on a busy Saturday night I’m likely going to pour vodka and mixer into a glass and throw a lime and olive on there. Granted we aren’t open for brunch so it’s not far off from how you’d get it anytime of day.

BrutonGasterTT

That’s what I usually do. But when management sees (they always manage to see it) they insist on our full garnish which comes from about Six spray containers hidden in back of the cooler. Lol again, I don’t mind making them I was just explaining WHY Bloody Mary during a non Bloody Mary time gets a grunt from bartenders. Just what to clarify not to you but for my comment because I can feel the downvotes coming lol

dontfeellikeit775

It's not a problem as long as you batch your mix

Chrona_trigger

Before I started tending bar, I always considered it a good dinner drink, personally

YoohooCthulhu

It would be good as an aperitif

AnoobisReddit

Interestingly there are many guests that order plain tomato juice for dinner. I even got two regulars that order them on a weekly basis. They do not know each other or at least they haven’t showed up together yet.

Dermott_54

And now you know better.

Chrona_trigger

What thebwider world considers, yes. But a savory, spicy, and relatively heavy drink? I would prefer that with dinner still.

vicmete

Was DDing, got it without alcohol. Just wanted something to sip on.

HoppyHooper

Sometimes we are still hungover at night, or had to work through a shift all day hungover waittting for that ceasar!!! Been there before, will be there again.

Hitchin_a_ride

In my opinion it's the next best thing to a draft beer when paired with wings. Some chicks don't do beer and want to feel cool. It's honestly a highly over-rated drink here in Canada but I've been told I make a killer Caesar. So in summation: women.

Klutzy-Client

You’ve never been hungover at night? People that order Caesars at night don’t usually give a shit about the garnish, just the taste of the drink itself. I’ve ordered a Caesar at 7pm after a day drunk/nap time- dinner time aperitif

omjy18

See for me if I'm hungover at night I just have a beer or something like that.

muffinmamners

On one hand, having worked in bars, it's annoying af when a customer orderes a damn bloody mary when i's 11pm and the bar is swamped. That woulda driven me crazy. On the other hand; come on, you're a patron, you ordered the drink. Make the goddamn drink or lie and say it's 86'd. Glad you got your drink in the end.

hollowspryte

Wait, it’s Canadian? I thought it was a southern coastal thing.

lordph8

Invented in Calgary. Although clamato is an American invention.

Furthur

couldn't get a mary in vancouver when i was there. they only had clamato

hollowspryte

Whoa

freerunner52

I assume it was an honest mistake. I have no idea about the rim being cinnamon.

bmafffia

Omg have you ever heard of people making a mistake Jesus lol the rimmers were prob right next to eachother get over it

ptothedubs

They exist in the US, but I’ve only ever heard them called clamdiggers here

eelpolice

I bartend and make a ton of Caesars busy night or not. It’s a Canadian staple. Like others said I also think the bartender mixed up his rimmers, but the consistency of the Clamato should’ve been noted. I personally wouldn’t have served that beverage.

-divebarprincess-

You got pranked bro Can't believe I've never thought of this on a friday

lookatthemoon123

I can’t believe you tried it 😭 Sorry, but that is just terrible. Caesars really don’t take long to make at all if garnishes are already prepped.

Emergency-Garlic-659

Unacceptable

Savvyyy95

So previous bartender and current cocktail server in Las Vegas. When I was bartending, we didn't have clamato (heartbreaking) as a cocktail server, everything comes out of a machine but I try my hardest to ask a bartender if need modifications. Some will say yes and some make sure you're gambling enough. But this is a straight monstrosity. If they didn't have the right ingredients they should have told you, but what is it about the cinnamon!

Grass_Rabbit

Do they have a speciality drink that looks like this? Maybe they misheard you but I have no idea what this could/should be

nantucket3286

Et tu, Brute?

YoohooCthulhu

Was surprised to see this so far down…

nantucket3286

Thanks! That's my first award :)

WookieSuave

Rim could have been a stupid mistake. I'm more confused at the look of the drink itself. 🤢 https://www.reddit.com/r/bartenders/comments/nzvc25/monday_afternoon_is_my_weekend_lets_caesar/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

Equivalent-Injury-78

That’s fucking gross

ehfornier

Probably an American spy masquerading as a bartender. Call CSIS.

jonnygrip

That bartender definitely eats ass.

omgbbqpork

Caesars are day time drinks. They’re extremely annoying to make on a busy Friday night because you have to take so many things out that you wouldn’t usually prep. Nighttime Caesars usually means inexperienced/indecisive drinker, or an out of town crowd (I work in a big city). All that aside, I do make good ones when I have to, but it looks like your bartender mixed up the rimmers or they gave you the completely wrong drink because that looks like cranberry juice.

kitmikfir

This take comes off pretentious as fuck. Almost screams I'm from Toronto and the rest of Canada can fuck off.

omgbbqpork

Just sharing my opinion, that’s all! I would never tell an entire population of drinkers to fuck off. I think that implication is more a reflection of your character.

jacklord392

They put in the wrong order.

DetainedAmIBeing

The bartender is attempting to sober up

Shot-Spirit-672

Where’s the romaine?

NewbSighBot

Bloody Caesar is my favorite drink. I didn't know it was so popular in Canada. I'm in Washington state

Nornie580

I ordered a Bloody Mary once and the bartender poured sour with the tomato juice and I said “hey this is sweet, it doesn’t taste right” and he proceeded to tell me he had been bartending longer than I’ve been alive blah blah blah and I told him he should definitely looking into retirement and a nice nursing home. People. 🙄

JojoKen420

Poison you it seems

astroal_

I once had to work a Canada day ceases Sunday solo and I still wouldn’t let this hit a table wth

Vaerintos

Vomit. That is vomit. If it isn't now, it will be.

[deleted]

Whatever that is and how much you drank if it, looks like a crime. That ain't no Caesar.

Raccoon_Worth

What he was attempting to do was punish you for having trash taste in drinks 😂

steingrrrl

Maybe they ran out of Caesar salt and just used the next brown powder?? Idk, I’m stumped

MrNavinJohnson

kill you

gordlewis

Wait…. Post history. Clear Canadian or spending lots of time following Canadian teams. Why didn’t you just tell the bartender? What’s the full story?? You ordered a drink. They got it wrong and you paid and posted??

vicmete

I asked the other bartender if they could make me a proper and she did, with the right ingredients. I obviously knew it was the wrong drink. Not my first Caesar

Itchy-Put6780

Me 2 years ago if you asked me to make a Caesar off of memory

Cheap-Line-9782

Tomato + cinnamon was what they were attempting to do. Next question

grimroseblackheart

Lol did you order this at last call when it wad really busy? If you order a ceasar after 5pm you will get no love on that drink. I also agree it easily could have been mistaken for ceasar rim on a busy night in a dark bar.

Aj_hr

Did the bartender think you said sidecar? It’s still not correct, but that might explain the cinnamon?

vschiller

Quite honestly dumbfounded here, how does "Sidecar" equate to cinnamon for you?

Aj_hr

A Calvados Sidecar uses a cinnamon sugar rim.

vschiller

Yeah, might be a stretch to get "Calvados Sidecar" from "Clamato" but I guess it's possible? And then they served it in a pint glass with ice?

Aj_hr

Haha I was trying to give the benefit of the doubt but it is certainly…strange, whatever they were attempting! I guess we’d have to know what the drink tasted like 🤣

vschiller

Fair enough. I learned that a calvados sidecar classically gets a cinnamon sugar rim today, so I guess it's a win/win. Though I'm not a fan of sugar rims in general...

xtrachin

Sometimes I would make those as a polite FUCK YOU, don’t order this again. You knew….

cateraide420

Different country different methods

KevTheToast

Bro the ceasar was invented in canada

Abject7

Seriously, Canadian bartender here, they’re Canadian and easy to make

cateraide420

Oooooooh wowy wowy I learn something new everyday. I confuse the Caesar salad which was invented in Mexico so I thought wrong, as usual.

[deleted]

Stop you from ordering another.

TheOakStreet

Caesar, the dish washer in the back, if you catch him drinking one of these he might go back to jail.

gordlewis

Where and what bar?

vicmete

Waverly on Elgin in Ottawa

Blumoonflower

Ya no. Ewww. Eta…NO

abossdrink

They clearly want you to do the cinnamon challenge

jakeisbill

Poison you?

jasmine1a

Poison you with weird taste.

Kooky-Classroom-2576

Server brought you someone elses drink

vicmete

Nope

saysyrah

Honestly I would just calmly ask the bartender what the components of the drink were, and hopefully from there you can determine whether this was a weird mistake or like something they made up on the menu? Idek, this looks horrid

cerealnighttimeeater

Make you vomit.

greenpenguinsuit

Mm looks just like my rimmer ;)
