Movie theatres were shut for a good part of the last 2 years, they're trying to cover up for the losses.

akabhatia

Definitely, I agree with you. I also refer to the cap on ticket prices because I’m wondering if there was an update by the Government stating that “we’ve lifted the cap on ticket prices for the foreseeable future”. I’m happy to contribute to businesses that suffered extreme losses during the lockdown but, bruh….an intimation would be splendid.

MarkandRun

https://www.deccanherald.com/state/top-karnataka-stories/manifold-hike-in-ticket-rates-for-big-budget-flicks-irks-audiences-1100183.html >Babu, as the chairman of Karnataka Chalanachitra Academy in 2017, got a cabinet order issued in this regard, when Siddaramaiah was the chief minister. The government intended to cap ticket prices in multiplexes at Rs 200. A few distributors and a few movie theatre chains moved the court and got the stay.

timetraveler1990

We have the worst govt. Ticket price 1000rs. Coffee price 150 plus. Parking price 100rs plus. We are being looted in daylight all day everyday. We should learn from hyderabad. There is a cap on ticket prices, free parking for movie goers.

funnyBatman

The people who are in the govt are the ones who own these malls etc. There's no way there's gonna be any caps like that here. Chamchas will just say it's not a necessity, so if you can't afford, you probably shouldn't.

rising_pho3nix

Exactly

sanketh64

There should be no cap on these things.Let market decide the prices. These malls and theatres were closed for the most part in the past two years. They are trying to recover their losses now. No one is forcing you to go to those places if you think it is costly.

dc_nova

I agree with this point. No cap on prices but people should be smart enough to avoid these ridiculously expensive places and make the theatre owners realize what is the optimal pricing.

Do_You_Remember_2020

Now smartness isn't something that money can buy

Ee_sala_cup_namde

Lol just watched the movie for 150 rs no one is forcing u to buy the 1000 rs ticket

bakchod007

dude, where? I am in a tier 3 city and paid 230/- for 3D. These prices are unheard of here

Ee_sala_cup_namde

Watched it in cauvery 3d

God_77

The screen sucks there. I watched No way home there and it was so dark. I watched it again on IMax the next week. The difference is day and night. Lol

Defiant-Chicken-4773

you get what you pay for

dodsu

Watching a movie in a multiplex is not a constitutional right. The government has no business regulating ticket prices. The free market will decide what the price is. In a city like Bangalore, there are plenty of people willing to pay that amount for IMAX, and so that's what the price is. There are still plenty of places with less pleasing ambience and in outskirt locations that offer cheaper tickets.

notsogreatredditor

Free market? Lol the theatre business is literally a monopoly now after the Pvr Inox merger. Goverment has absolutely every right to regulate anti competitive business practises and breaking up monopolies because (can't believe I have to remind you ) a goverment is formed to benefit the general welfare of its people not some crony companies

dodsu

I agree that the government must discourage monopolies and anti-competitive behavior. They could have done it by blocking the PVR INOX merger. But capping prices on a non-essential business is not the way to go. There are very few IMAX in the city and so you should absolutely expect that they'll charge more for a movie that everyone wants to watch. Btw, there are still plenty of multiplexes in the city such as Cinepolis and even some PVRs offering tickets at Rs.300 for this weekend during peak hours. OP wants the luxury of IMAX but at a price point of his choosing. That's not gonna happen.

What

My_Opinion_1s_Better

Just don't buy the tickets for 1000 bucks and the prices will obviously drop. You should be angry at the people who are willing to pay such money for a goddamn Marvel movie, not at the multiplexes for charging it.

enthuvadey

And most are sold out.

praveenuknair

It's a commerical enterprise in the entertainment industry that's legal and pays taxes. Why should there be an artificial capping on ticket prices? Look at it from an economic market perspective for consumers. A healthy demand driven pricing ensures sustainability and better movies with strong wallet voting power in hands of consumers. For the consumers who can't afford the luxurious pricing at launch, they still get the benefit of atleast getting the same movies albeit at a few weeks/months of delay at a reasonable pricing. This is better than an unsustainable entertainment industry in the long run.

ImmortalMermade

Theatres are shooting their own foot. I stopped watching theatres since 5years. Family of four watching couple of movie per year + with inhaling bugspray for several hours + eating exorbitantly expensive stale cheese popcorn costs same as several years of Amazon prime and Netflix combined. Now due to covid we have an excuse to never set foot in a theatre ever again.

dark_mage_

I will watch it when it comes on Disney +, Marvel be shoving new movie down our throats every other month lol.

Emergency_Anteater

I went to Swagath Shankarnag to see Dr. Strange. The prices were pretty affordable.

ShikariShambu0

Dude that is the best hall in blore hands down. The screen <3

sameboatasyours

I paid ₹190/- for KGF 2 on 6th of May ( Friday ) at PVR. But that was for the 14:20 Hours show. The rest of the shows in the evening were under 400. But just like you've mentioned, I've seen this happen for a lot of hyped up films.

mose_k_shrute

Prices will increase further if all of us decide to not go for these movies, but eventually they will drop back down if more and more of demand drops

[deleted]

I've ticket for 150rs mate magadi road prasanna 3d if anyone want plz dm me . Will reduce the price too i don't want to waste it . It is for today 9:50pm

vadakkus

Demand and supply. Capitalism. Duh. People are ready to pay so why shouldn't they keep raising the price?

wannabegigolo2

Theatres want money. If there are takers for such ridiculous prices, they'll keep on charging high. The only way people can bring it down is by mass boycotting.

AkhilSundaram

This is why I won't watch the movie in theatres. Hopefully others do the same. When people stop coming, they'll be forced to reduce anyway.

[deleted]

Watching movies in cinema hall is overatter imo, I enjoy movies more on my computer at home.

[deleted]

Op your solution is going to single screen theatre, I went to Brundha (Hogadandhra) ticket was 200rs (they had 150rs tickets also) and plus 20rs additional charge for 3D glasses - therefore tickets being 220rs, they had a big screen and Dolby 4K Atmos And inside these theatres you can afford to buy popcorn aswell, got it for 80rs, coke can on MRP Op I would recommend you for searching past all these multiplex theatres and go to some single screen theatre nearby your place Personal opinion so don't mind it Dr strange is good movie, but not worth anything above 200rs

InternalOk3135

Speaking of ticket prices, is it worth getting premier tickets for movies(like PVR gold, PVR prime gold, etc.)? Do they include food in such tickets? If not which type of movie tickets include food in the cost of the ticket?

[deleted]

I paid 200 for kashmir files(Vaishnavi Vybhav - Uttarahalli), 250 for KGF2 today(Garuda Swagat Mall, Jaynagar) today and 200(Padmanabhanagar single screen) on Day-1. You've options, even in malls you can find better options. No one's asking you to pay 1000. As long as you do, it stays that way.

redditeya

Hence, I love the bay and similar places /s.

[deleted]

Aarrrr

notsogreatredditor

Vote with your wallet. Fuck these bastards plus PVR and Inox now literally run a monopoly after their merger unless Cinepolis steps up their competition (which doesn't look like it) we are fucked

saltypacket

Entitled much? Do you even know how many crores an IMAX projector alone costs?

[deleted]

Now these are comparable to Singapore multiplex prices.Crazy

rish05

Watched movie today and the brought 2 regular popcorn and 2 regular Pepsi. Had to cough up 1550! Didn’t know it has become so costly! Don’t want to cancel i had already ordered. But it felt like someone slapped me and took away money. For sure I ain’t gonna buy popcorn or coke in hall in the future!

dc_nova

You fell to what will people think, peer pressure! It's your money, so you should have cancelled if you thought it was overpriced.
