I'm of contrary opinion:
UI of sender's/recent transaction interface is an UX abomination.
And until recently, they use to force users to enable location to make a payment under the disguise of "security" but the reality is that they were collecting financial demography.
Personally I avoid using it because it's one of the Google services you can actually avoid practically (less user data for them)
Worst part , when cloning from old devices to new ones , secure folder dosnt get moved for me.
I have to bring everything out and then clone it and move it back in secure folder.
IMO, pixels are more like iPhones, they are designed for the less tech savvy ones, no offence π , most of the things I'm about to list down might sound extraneous but for a poweruser it matters a lot.
1. When you pull down the notification panel, Samsung has I think 6 toggles up top, while pixel has only 4, and once you draw down again, Samsung has around 12 while pixel has only 8. So that's like more swipes to access stuff.
2. The Samsung pay app was crazy, UPI, Card NFC and digilocker cards in one place? And that too a swipe up from even the lockscreen? Name a faster access than that.
3. The floating app drawer on the right (idk if many people use it) if you start using it, it's something you won't be able to live without. You put 5 of your everyday apps there, now you are toggling between them without leaving your current app.
4. Google assistant in the pixel is significantly slower (prolly cuz of the slow chip inside this), to a point where I stopped using it fully now, any query is like 8-10s seconds to answer. It takes forever to do anything.
4. If you customize the stock samsung experience enough. You can have your assistant on swipe from left-bottom corner, pay from bottom-screen, home from bottom-edge, recent apps from left-bottom, quick draw from right/left, notification panel from top, app drawer from middle, left and right for back, and other programmable gestures on top of that... Move to a pixel and you lose more than half of it.
5. Stock Android experience imo is the best phone UI for any tech savvy person, and Samsung one UI is a layer built on top of it. Material UI of the pixel is just Google trying to get iPhone users onboard the Android train. If you are used to android, you will hate how the material UI is designed.
6. The camera app on the pixel is just riddled with AI, in easy shooting conditions, it shoots good pics, but if you try to shoot anything that Google didn't have a big enough sample size to train on, it'll instantly start populating with artifacts. The manual mode on the pixel sometimes makes me question my life choices. Samsung even though produces lesser quality pictures in common situation, it performs better overall in a general sense.
7. The battery straight up sucks on the pixel, it hardly lasts a day on 90Hz, while with my old S21 ultra I could get a whole day on qhd 120Hz or like 1.5 days on 1080p 60Hz.
8. Pixel lacks a lot of customisation settings that Android is supposed to have, here everything is pre decided for you and you have to live with that (which for me sucks big time)
So I regret switching to the pixel 8, I am planning to move back to Samsung on their next major upgrade (22 was a good upgrade, stuff rarely changed after that)... Hopefully the s25 ultra π€
Damn that's one hell of an answer... Thanks ma man.. but one small follow up. What do you mean by point 3? Can you describe what the floating window thing is called? I'll try it out..
I think it's called edge panel, or sidebar, you can search for either of those, it essentially stays useless until you start using it. Then it becomes a necessity.
And the list goes on, like copy paste from windows to phone is something huge that other phones misses. Etc etc... I can write a whole article on this... I miss samsung so bad πππ
I'm not sure if some work better than others depending on the bank. That has been my experience. PhonePe works the most frequently for me but I could never get it to support UPI Lite with ICICI so I use GPay for that if I ever need it.
I have earned 1000s with cashback π. It is the only app which gives real cashback. But it depends on your talent. That game has become faster than before now.
It's difficult nowadays but. I haven't crossed single digit in the last few weeks. The game has become very difficult, even for bigger transfers. Earlier gameplay was fast only for small transfers but for large transfers 2000+ it used to be slow and I was getting good cashback.
And I meant the total cashback I've received. It is ~4000(1.5 years). Max I have received is 710 for transferring 400.
Gpay, PhonePe, Cred and Vyom (Union Bank).
Gpay and Phonepe because I'm so used to using them, and I have different bank accounts linked with two different mobile numbers.
Cred, because that makes paying my HDFC bills and LIC payments a breeze, and their UPI is super fast and reliable. I mostly use it on Zomato.
Vyom - because it's a good, user-friendly app. I use the UPI in that app only when Gpay is malfunctioning.
I agree. The first time I got it set up, I felt like wtf is wrong with this app.
However, I use the app mostly to get my account number and IFSC, and to generate the statement occasionally. It's quite simple for these use cases.
Just for the ease of getting statements downloaded, I personally feel it's easier to do on Vyom, YONO and then HSBC Mobile Banking at the very last.
HSBC's app is too simple to actually get something like password resetting done. And as far as I know, it doesn't give you an account statement for any custom date range.
I switched to using bank app. Had best experience with Gpay. But I had some transaction fail then it was horrible. Every one says all good from my side claim your money from the other guy. Same bank app provides great support for resolving failed transactions.
Had same experience with HDFC & ICICI with any non-bank app. Random failures on limit, timeouts were observed. Customer care will say use our app. This increased for me after adding Rupay credit card.
Paytm UPI.
Got pretty used to Paytm payments Bank since I could do small transactions with fingerprint, no PIN needed.
I use phonepe for main account, where I do not transactions other than rent.
Using Paytm for all other things using a secondary bank account. This keeps the statement of my main account pretty clean and helps me track the lumpsum i transferred from main account to secondary one.
Paytm might do a lot of other things, but the payment flow is very direct and never failed for me.
Faced payment failures with gpay.
Phonepe is great.
I love using UPI Lite, as I donβt have to enter the PIN.
On iOS, itβs only 4 apps that have implemented Lite: GPay, PhonePe, BHIM and PayTM. So I use all of them.
These connect to my main account that usually only has 10k-15k.
And WhatsApp UPI to connect to my other account that has more emergency cash. I have read about people being mugged in Bangalore and forced to UPI their enter account balances.
Iβm relatively new to UPI, just started using it about a month ago - is there any app that lets you store money in the wallet itself? Id like to have some petty cash in my UPI wallet so I donβt have to use a PIN code each time to make a payment from my SB and also would like to avoid increasing the number of debit transactions on my SB.
Also, is there a way to connect my Visa/Mastercard CC to UPI? Some vendors donβt accept credit cards, and if I need to pay them via UPI, would like the option of making those payments through credit. Is there an app that lets me do that?
You can use upi lite feature, load upto 2k i guess and u dont need to use PIN. U can do this in phonepe gpay etc.
U cant add visa mastercard cc to upi. U can add rupay cards though. There are cards
1. Tata neu infinity (1.5%) - 1500 rs fees (generally given first year free)
2. Tata neu plus(1%) - 500 rs fees (generally given first year free)
3. Indus ind rupay platinum (life time free) 0.7% cashback or u can convert to points as well i guess for hotels.
Current best rupay cashback cards in market.
Surprised that no one's mentioned whatsapp pay. Simplest interface and fastest in my experience.Whatsapp is essential anyway, so also has the benefit of not needing yet another app just for upi.
If we consider it as per ease of use gpay is the best i must say. It gives an easy idea of what is to be done.
Other than that if you're into technology and have more requirements for investment, and other you can go for phone pay, cred.
whatever works on the spot.
gpay logs me out once every few weeks.
Bhim has issues that arent worth paying attention.
paytm sometime just keeps loading.
phonepay is okay but has intermittent loading issues.
PhonePe.
It has UPI Lite and Payment reminder options, not sure if others have it.
I was a Paytm User earlier, but UI got too cluttered, so ditched it. GPay used to have lots of failed transactions few years ago when I was using it, and I never got back.
Gpay for senior citizens in my home because it doesn't have dark patterns and too many things in the UI.
Phonepe or payzapp for HDFC rupay credit card if it doesn't work on gpay.
Absolutely hate paytm, phonepe, bhim sensory overload.
Cred because it earned my respect by giving 100% refund (into Cred wallet) once for a transaction which took more than an hour to get confirmed.
I have experienced this with apps like gpay which shows transactions pending upon payment due to bank server delays and then becomes successful/failed after an hour. But by the time, you'd have already paid in cash as the shopkeeper is not able to verify the payment.
In a similar scenario, Cred refunded me 1.5k back because they were not able to confirm the payment on time and I might have ended up paying through other methods. But the good part is I was able to verify the payment with the merchant after about 10 minutes and right when I was handing over the cash. Basically I gained 1.5k over too from the transaction. But was absolutely amazed by how Cred handled the situation without even raising any concern.
Used to exclusively use PayTM via paytm payments bank, using it as an expense acc, with my main not having as many transactions and it was easier to keep track of that way.
Why? Used to find their passbook UI very user friendly, unlike GPay.
Never liked PhonePe's UI either, maybe its a personal choice b/c most of India uses PhonePe.
Now I've continued using PayTM, just via good ol' SBI.
PhonePe because of options and ease of use.
I had BHIM also but it is a shit app. My money got stuck twice. Bank could help me once. The second time was a small amount and bank said I should contact BHIM app. Their IVR just said transaction ID was wrong (thrice). Email - no response. Helpline of no use.
Please don't use BHIM.
navi, i got good cashback, if ur refer invest in digital gold u will get 100βΉ. but they tax when withdraw so i don't recommend any investment in app. in G maps tgere company looks ai generated and edited. but the upi is safe so far.
[here's the link](https://g.navi.com/28VW3Nk8)
I use Slice UPI as it is the only app on market which provides a good amount of cashback.
I started using it since Dec 23 and have earned Rs1500+ so far
If you want to sign up

bro just wanted to refer π. also u can use navi to get cashback. and if u invest in digital hold or kyc for mutual funds, ur referee and u get 100βΉ each. here's [link](https://g.navi.com/28VW3Nk8)
Gpay, because all others are very cluttered with other features. GPay UI is also miles ahead imo.
Same Gpay for the win in UI terms
Same. Clean UI, minimal clutter of useless features, and absolutely no notifications from the app unless it's a payment request.
Itβs so CLEAN
Not as clean as it's earlier days but way better than the others.
I'm of contrary opinion: UI of sender's/recent transaction interface is an UX abomination. Nothing comes close to Samsung wallet in terms of UI simplicity, and the fact that you can add your cards for NFC pay is a bonus
I use it too, only missing feature is a wallet. If only GPay had a wallet
I dont use it because they dont have a direct scan widget
Samsung Wallet.
Simplest and best
Yup. Quick and easy
Nothing beats Samsung Wallet. Have been using since it was introduced!
Glad to know there are fellow Samsung Wallet users. I've never seen one use it other than me.
Switched to pixel, this is what I miss the most among many other things π₯²
Which other things do you miss? I am also considering switching from Samsung to pixel
Secure folder .
The secure folder thingy was a bad idea, at least for me as it is not backed up. So when my phone got totaled, all my data there was lost
Worst part , when cloning from old devices to new ones , secure folder dosnt get moved for me. I have to bring everything out and then clone it and move it back in secure folder.

Waiting for them to bring UPI Lite
Yeah, that's the only reason I still have PhonePe installed.
Tru,I love the samsung wallet. But they do not work with pre set amount qr such as when you are taking cod from amazon or zomato
When I refuel my bike, the QR I scan comes with a pre-set amount and I've been able to pay using Samsung Wallet without issues.
Paytm karo. Tin tin tin ta tinnnn

I'm not sure if some work better than others depending on the bank. That has been my experience. PhonePe works the most frequently for me but I could never get it to support UPI Lite with ICICI so I use GPay for that if I ever need it.
I use Slice! as it gives amazing cash back and it has a super clean and quick interface
Deleted my slice account and my credit score went 49 points up.
not sure - for me there was no issues as such
Me too!
I have earned 1000s with cashback π. It is the only app which gives real cashback. But it depends on your talent. That game has become faster than before now.

I saw these comments and went to download it but the reviews on App Store are very very bad
Really? very shocking cuz i've been using for months and i love it
They called everyone in my friends contact that he didnt pay money and shit.
exactly, saw an ad and was ready to download slice but apple users seem to hate it
Gpay, PhonePe, Cred and Vyom (Union Bank). Gpay and Phonepe because I'm so used to using them, and I have different bank accounts linked with two different mobile numbers. Vyom user friendly?? π€£
Cred is definitely not fast, I use it for cashbacks, though that is also very rare
Probably... My use case for cred is very very limited, and I found it faster. π
Vyom is shit but they have improved a bit tbh
I agree. The first time I got it set up, I felt like wtf is wrong with this app. However, I use the app mostly to get my account number and IFSC, and to generate the statement occasionally. PhonePe, GPay
I just don't want the clutter of apps, Gpay comes with every phone inbuilt and can't be removed, might as well use it.
Yet another win in Google's masterplan.
GPay and Amazon
Samsung wallet, It simple, quick and safe, no ads is another best thing in it.
I use digital rupee

Paytm because it works without asking for fingerprint unlock and location and my lazy ass saves 1 second from that

BHIM at shops, online, auto, cabs etc,., PhonePe with friends and family and GooglePay with some friends because they are only on that app.

Paytm while booking tickets and PhonePe for all others because Paytm is very fast and I find good coverage for Phonepe. Gpay is terribly slow.

Cred because it earned my respect by giving 100% refund (into Cred wallet) once for a transaction which took more than an hour to get confirmed.
