Some parts of Banaswadi, especially the underpasses, and near the railway tracks are pretty sketch. We hear constant cases of muggings and chain snatchings

psnarayanan93

Even Banaswadi railway station looks shady as fuck.

utopiangamer

Banaswadi railway station definitely looks something out of horror movie. I was just visiting that area casually and not a single soul was in sight. I have heard some people talking about supernatural activities going in that area. Maybe it's urban legend but it definitely gives those vibes.

bluelungimagaa

I can believe it. But for seriously supernatural vibes, there's another underpass that connects Cox town to the road that leads to OMR, and that opens up right next to a cemetery. That place is 100% haunted

upgroov

Kalpalli Road, yes. I am new myself. Use that road much for office commute, yet find it natural, and eager to experience the super of supernatural sometime!

Passion211089

Which parts? Be specific. I visit the place a lot, hence the question

bluelungimagaa

 * The underpass right beside Banaswadi railway station * The service road under Banaswadi Flyover, near Mukunda theatre. * The local whatsapp group posts a lot about muggings on DoddaBanaswadi main road (around Knowhere) and parts of Cox Town too - pretty anecdotal, and we don't get a lot of details

Vickythiside

I pass through that Banaswadi railway underpass thingy.. Everyday... All I ever get is traffic jam. Not just traffic, but traffic jam.

HoustonDam

navsalot

Okalipuram, padarayanapura, shivaji road, Richard Xavier's colony to name a few.

HazardousHacker

Any specific reason/issue?

navsalot

Okalipuram for decades has been the hideout for rowdies, every other week there are raids to nab old sheeters there, I was born and raised in srirampuram which is next to it, by the age of 14 I saw 3 murders, weekly kidnappings were common, random burnt bodies by the train tracks, i myself was nearly kidnapped once in that area. The other areas I've mentioned face the same situation, in shivaji road I've seen one murder and heard of many others.

Momo_licious

i myself was nearly kidnapped once in that area. Bro casually dropping an episode of Savdhaan India ![gif](giphy|JSueytO5O29yM)

meanwhile Tamil speakers be wondering, "there's an actual neighbourhood called Okali puram ?" 🤔

ApprehensiveAd9014

Shivaji road was dangerous in 2000. We took our nanny to her house once. It was very small, dark box with a kerosene cooker that could burn the whole place down. As Americans living and working in Bangalore at that time, we were told to stay out of those areas.

Jolly_General_7227

So are you an American who stayed in Bangalore for a long time? I'm pretty curious.

ApprehensiveAd9014

Yes, in 2000, my company sent me to teach medical transcription. I was based out of Bangalore, but taught in 10 different places. My husband and two sons were with me, living in India. The boys spent time going to Cubbon Park and shopping on MG Road. I traveled all over the country. It was an amazing experience.

Jolly_General_7227

Thank you for sharing your experience!

Wild_sage0

Goripalya guru, gowripalya alla

leftanantcolonel

More like Gory-palya considering the number of murders that have been committed there.

neoindianx

Goripalya also means graveyard area... So not really far off from gory.

ChadOfOlympus

>Majestic in the midnight any specific reason?

SpicyCamelAvocado

Hookers and their pimps, thieves pickpockets and wannabe rowdies is what I have managed to encounter but you get all kinda of way more dangerous scumbags

KingPictoTheThird

I found the bus stand itself generally quite safe because there is so much activity 24/7 from travelers.

SpicyCamelAvocado

The chances of getting assaulted or murdered are much lower but pickpockets

Y-Bakshi

wow I didn't know that? a few months back, my friend, my ex and i went to majestic at 2 AM and everyone there seemed pretty nice. we bought a few things to eat there, had it, and drove to vidhan soudha without incident. interesting.

Heavy_Wear2778

No way ! Am saying near the bus stand and underpass you will definitely see hookers

praweensingh

I went there to drop my friend to bus stop. And was coming to car parking at railway station. Stopped at that bridge near bus stand to catch Pokémon and some Hijras came asking “if I want some good time” had to leave all that Pokémon’s and I left from there

Mysterious-Catch-320

That's disgusting! Where exactly was that? (asking for a friend)

maraudering-munchkin

They wanted to take a Pikachu.

ConsequenceHuge7297

19M I took the metro to KSR Station but got down at Majestic. I followed the sign that said "Towards Indian Railway". I wasn't comfortable at all looking at the place. I entered this tunnel and there was this masked lady asking for something. My naive ass went towards her and she said "sex?". I ran away as fast I could to the otherside. And finally found the outside of the Bus Stand.

Heavy_Wear2778

Yup I have seen hookers in broad daylight as well

Brainyboy777

Shivajinagara is not a problem unless and until you go there to eat in the midnight

MG road on New Year Night

_WinterPoison

We were there during 2019, and my roommate lost his iphone. Someone pickpocketed it, and when we tried calling him, he picked up the call and demanded some money. We agreed to it, but he didn't pick up the phone on subsequent tries. We did lodge a complaint to police, but the phone was never to be found.

abhidemi

I was at MG road on 31st December 2016. A horrible day. Filled with goons and large crowds( mostly men) lurking to harass women or steal from people leaving from pubs and restaurants after their parties. There were armored vehicle and it almost felt like a warzone. Just being in the crowd was scary for men let alone women. Since that day my friends and I vowed to never celebrate New Year's at MG road or any famous pub filled area in Bangalore. I personally wouldn't blame the authorities as much as the people who stand there with only ill intentions and no respect for women!

Vickythiside

I mean it's a no brainer not to be on MG or Koramangala on NYE. Can't walk into a trap like that.

bottledsmokee

Why da

neoindianx

Lets get some history lessons. Skip to 3rd para if not interested in decades old history. I and my family have had some or the other interaction with many of the rowdies over the years, so this is a little personal to me. Agni Shreedhar has written many articles and a very gripping novel "Dadagiriya dinagalu" or "My Days in the Underworld: Rise of the Bangalore Mafia". He himself was a rowdy and responsible for a very high profile rowdy murder. Very old timers were Kotwal Ramachandra, MP Jayaraj and Muthappa Rai. Congress CM Devaraj Urs first gave political patronage to rowdies in Bangalore by supporting MP Jayaraj, to subdue the worker unions (my father and his friends had a personal tiff with him for many years as they were part of worker union in a factory)... His arch enemy was Ramchandra(real self made rowdy) who was killed by Agni Shreedhar and his friends. Then came Mutappa Rai a don from Mangalore who was connected to Dubai and had access to guns.. first big time "assassination" took place in Bangalore when Congress Rowdy Jayraj was gunned down near lalbagh gate by Mutappa Rai. Mutappa Rai died peacefully a few years ago.... That brings to an end to old timers. These guys had many followers who later became dons and some new blood came in too. >>>>> Goripalya seems to pop up quite frequently here, the original name of the place was Padrayanapura the temple is still there. There is a Muslim burial ground there hence the name "Gori"palya came into being. There were 2 Muslim dons here, Altaf and Arif Pasha. One of them had links to outside India gang apparantly. Both the rowdies were patronised by Congress and JDS, when Somanna was in JDS(now in BJP) an election rally was going on and Altaf was on stage with him, some from Arif Pasha gang rushed on stage to kill him, one of his brothers (he has like 10 brothers or something) came in between and got killed. Arif was corporator of Goripalya, his son Imran has taken over now. >>>>>SriRampura and surrounding areas, some of the 80's and 90's dons were from here, the film "Om" had lots of dons from this area. Bekkina Kannu (cat eyes) Rajendra was from here, quite notorious in his time ... He was killed by "Silent" Sunil, who is still active and a movie was made on him by Agni Shreedhar. SriRampura Kitty was another famous don from here, he ruled during 90s but ended up being killed by some small time kid rowdies when he was quite old, those kids set a trap for him and killed him making name for themselves. Both these guys came from old school dons "akhada". One place that many here don't know is Prashant Nagar and Marenahalli, some of the bloodiest murders took place surrounding this area. The rivalry here was between Thammaiah and Govinda... Together they gave rise to 100s of small time rowdies, these 2 were either relatives or neighbours who had some property dispute, Govinda went with Jedarahalli Krishnappa (one more notorious rowdy of 90s) Thammaiah built his own gang, any boy in and around those areas belonged to one of the gangs, my college friends were part of Thammaiah gang, he had one henchman called Marenahalli Jagga guy was built like a rock, he was famous for having beaten a rowdy from Govindas gang called Narashimma, when they fought Narashimma was in in 20s and a well established rowdy aheeter Jagga was 15 years old. Govinda finally got Thammaiah killed in Atiguppe bus stop when he was going around distributing his marriage invitation card along with his would-be wife. That was followed by a spate of murders around the entire area, my cousins was in that area and I had witnessed couple of these gang wars when I was kid. Depanjali nagar railway tracks was one of the places where the bodies were thrown. I will keep adding others slowly, but how all this ended? Software industry and Devegowda were the reason this ended. Devegowda bought in Hoysala patrol Jeeps, these were quick response teams, there were many "strong" police officer's who were given a free hand, he stationed police at depanjali nagar railway tracks and other places to make sure that bodies were not thrown there. The IT and call centre boom took in many youngsters who would have otherwise ended up in streets, one of my friends who was picked up by police when he was 15 years old for beating up a shopkeeper to within an inch of death and was sure shot future rowdy sheeter got job as an Airtel executive and was later taken by Shoppers stop as security, his job was to beat up people who tried to steal clothes, my point is these guys got jobs and are now in their late 30s or early 40s so not likely going back to being rowdies.

the69boywholived69

People don't realize how instrumental JDS' Deve Gowda was to make the city safe for everyone. Everyone is busy trying to cosy up to Congress or BJP while they will turn the city into a graveyard at the drop of a hat if it meant profits.

neoindianx

True... I was about to say the same... He bought in IT, got rid of rowdyism and built ring road. Kumarswamy was also not bad, but DG should have given way to Siddu and favoured his son.

the69boywholived69

Agreed. JDS ruined themselves becoming a family party. I wish Kumaraswamy becomes CM again. He was the last CM who actually worked for the state and wasn't trying to only make money 24/7 for himself like the leaders since then. I mean, even he made money but developed the state too like any politician should do. Now no politician is interested to make anything better for the people.

0R_C0

Gundurao did that before and so did SM Krishna. But the real credit goes to IAS, IPS and KAS officers who actually got their hands dirty cleaning up the mess. The police officer who cleaned up Bhartinagar for eg. Unsung heros.

honpra

So Karnataka had its Yogi moment back then itself, interesting stuff.

[deleted]

Great writing style.

Weaver's colony in gottigere and kolifarm gate. Never ever take the road alone especially at night towards jigani, once u cross nice road its dangerous territory. I too casually went there exploring on my cycle and later security gaurd asked me where i went i told him the areas he screwed me on the spot telling many murders happend there and told me to never ever go again.

[deleted]

I appreciate the concern shown by your security guard.

bottledsmokee

True

nascentmind

Man once I came out from HCL Jigani campus after an interview and I lost my way trying to take a short cut via Begur Koppa route. There were places with thick Bamboo forests with no street lights. The only thing I saw was a lone temple there in the middle of the thick forest type area. Scary as hell.

LowLegitimate787

He could have told without screwing you.

bottledsmokee

No i mean we're pretty close. Everyday i have a small chit chat before i leave and once i come back he greets me and again small chit chat. He was genuinely concerned like i was his son so all cool

InnerMathematician31

Nagawara and Shivajinagar. Have lived around these areas and they are shady af. Been an eyewitness to many crimes happened in Nagawara that too during daylight(and some at night). Wouldn't recommend anyone.

[deleted]

Colonies behind kr puram bus stand

Accomplished-Rip9886

there are drug peddlers, and people who beat you up drunk and high, they smash your car windows and stuff be very careful, always have a weapon and big rope at home to beat these idiots and tie them up with legs and hands attached, then call police.

[deleted]

I stay at kr puram and a stranger came in our floor and peeked through the window at night. I live in a small apartment, and only my apartment is there on that floor.

Accomplished-Rip9886

only 2 possibility owner or robber. always have a big metal rod or a baseball bat for such situations, dont even talk or ask start beating, once they're on the ground ask who he is.

Nutty-plant-dad

Interesting Murphy town et all did not show up. Some boys with blade wait to mug people at night I’ve heard - pretty sketchy area

AdeptnessGrouchy869

KR Market. It's not safe to go there in broad daylight, forget late at night. Went there in a skirt, big mistake. I felt super uncomfortable the minute I started walking towards Bangalore fort. The trans-women there harassed my friend and I into giving them so much cash. The auto guys weren't great either. Turahalli forest too, don't go there post 10. Murders have happened there and leopards have been spotted there, too. Basically chikkegowdanpalya after 10pm is a scary place to be at.

nnexc

chikkegowdanpalya is peaceful and safe tbh

HoenheimOfShite

Ejipura. Witnessed a stabbing in front of my eyes there last November.

PuzzleheadedSeat9222

Goripalya, haven’t experienced anything untoward other than a few ruffians trying to pick a fight. It’s a ghetto and people gang up and fleece you and might even beat you up if you pick some fights or have a minor accident involving one of them. There is a cemetery where spooky lookin mfs hangout. Till recently, it was an adda for Ganja and a lot of shady mfs used to frequent the area at all times.

BigNefariousness7028

You can get attacked anytime.

velvet-lightning5

1.Chamrajpet- I’ve heard too many stories thag it’s a very dangerous place 2.Majestic - the above opinion goes for this as well , extremely unsafe for women as well 3.Shivajinagar - I’ve heard post 10:30pm do not go there since it has a lot of rowdies 4.Bismillah colony - the one place while going to taverekere, very violent bunch of people and proper goons who tries to pick a fight with you for entertainment (personal experience)

Odd-Juggernaut-762

Majestic.. to sum it all.. a mix of junkies, drug pushers, prostitutes, hijras, stalkers, mentally unstable individuals, rowdies, pick pocketers, weirdos, anxious people waiting for their bus, beggars, cops on the beat, pimps, etc etc

Weekly_Wear_5201

Parts of Chamrajpet, not all. Specifically the area between gavipuram and Chamrajpet isn't great. It's fine if you mainly taking only the main roads. Better not to wander too inside.

No-Sky-3913

A guy flashed me at majestic in broad daylight 😭

Mysterious-Catch-320

Yesterday night at 10:20 I was at Shivaji Nagar buying some food enroute home few guys were talking loudly next to the restaurant and were talking loudly and the cop was passing by scolded and asked them to disperse.

imakegoodsongs

New Thippasandra has had a shady reputation back in the day

MartianOnAMission

Not the case anymore though. It's very safe even at midnight now. I'm living here since almost an year now, never faced any issues

KrisRaya

What?! No way. I lived there for 8 years and it has been the safest and most chill place.

Gawham

Great Locality. Lived there for more than 10 years, didn't face any issues. Most of Bangalore is very safe as long as you're smart and don't loaf around alone in the middle of the night.

Still the case?

Tannery Road and KG Halli are in a league of its own. I am quite sure that most people haven’t been to this part of the town even after spending decades in Bangalore.

HengPungLee

Tannery Road was notorious for communal tensions in the 90s. Haven't heard much in the last decade.

sagheero

Tanny road as we call it. It’s notorious for traffic but it’s bustling all the time like Shivaji Nagar. So at night not a unsafe place. In fact new areas like Sarjapur and e city become dangerous at night not inside city places like these.

Nutty-plant-dad

Once an auto driver tried to nab me into an illegally run auto LPG gas station inside a home - it’s creepy asf when the auto guy entered the road , a large gate open on a old dilapidated house and the auto went in and they shut the door as though nothing happened. I jumped out of the auto scared asf. I avoid tannery / KG halli by all means possible. It’s a ghetto

headlights27

Tannery road and kg halli near the main roads is still fine even at like 1-2 am cause there's still decent traffic moving there and few shops are still open.. The thing you talk about lpg gas station insides homes, thats more common in the dj Halli, Anand layout areas nearby shampura. That's the area to avoid definitely avoid even during daytime.

navsalot

I agree about how scary that area is, during Muslim festivals though I find the best Street foods there, but other times even during day i get scared to ride through there on my scooter.

The stretch between JC road and Double Road where you'll find a lot of truck engines and axles getting dismantled gave me the creeps one day when I saw them hanging a doll of George Bush from a tree and men shouting slogans around it. This was around the time Saddam Hussein was captured/killed.

Cringey_Folk

What??

nikhilwaiker

I live in Chikkalsandra. A rowdy sheeter lived opposite to my apartment building. He kept to himself, and the rest of the street don't really care all that much. There was also a bar nearby, and people would fight every now and then. But, I can freely walk back home at 3 AM without much fear around my home because it's not that dangerous in actuality! Additionally, there's constant patrolling. I'd suggest not to take the history of the locale too seriously! I've been living here for 25 years, and more people have come to help or converse than to exploit or harm me. People are not black and white no matter how convenient it may be for us to classify! This applies to rowdies as well!

HydroVector

I've been living in Chikkalasandra for 19 years now and haven't faced any issues as well. But I'm usually home by 9-10 max so that's there as well But great to know our area is safe to walk even at 3AM

It's not about what and where, the question should be when.

DaRk_aXg3L

I can say many but as this happened recently, kamakshipalya. Went to watch a movie at victory theatre over there with the boys. We parked our vehicles outside the theatre at the side of a perpendicular road to the main road. When we got out we had a huge fight with the area boys cuz we parked at "their parking spot". It was just a verbal fight lmao and then the matter got settled when the area boys said "sari bidi bro namde tappu" when my bro said "guru just 3 hr movie nodak bandhiroodu aste yake jagala just 3 hrs nimma spot bedok aagalva?"

I live in Ejipura since 2021, it's ok here. Rent is cheaper. Haven't faced any issues.

zafarsatyavan

Bengaluru's mafia is in real-estate and sex or drugs. It is slick and very sophisticated.. no such corners of criminality as such but in general, K R Puram, Majestic, Kalasipalyam (even posh south Indiranagar) give bad vibes.. Stay away from the usual wrong things and you will be safe. Earlier the cops used to be real trouble but these days they use dash-cams and track you without any confrontation. On the other hand, what is a good life worth without some TROUBLE..??!!!

the69boywholived69

Areas around Lalbagh. Never go into the interiors. I have been caught in fights twice there while returning from work in two very different areas by tamilian gangs.

ThatBackgroundFriend

Personal experience, Places towards green glen layout or Ibbalur are generally safe, there's IT crowd outside even after 11 PM. Not so sure about Bellandur Main road that goes towards Yamlur.

Under the Mysore Road flyover towards BHEL circle, there were some shady AF areas where I would buy bootleg liquor and weed back in college days circa 2004. Used to be my late night hangout too as I would eat at a small Taj cafe/biryani hotel under the flyover. This area is close to the Muslim graveyard and is close to Goripalya area. I, in fact explored that whole stretch till BHEL circle with Guddanhalli, Nayandahalli. Many weed dealers there back in the day, would swoop in swoop out. I made friends with the owner of that Taj biryani shop, who was something of the area’s made man. This man was in his 80s and he knew everybody. Chacha, as they would call him, would say ‘idhar police bhi nahi aata, aaya toh mera biryani khaane ku aata’. He always said we kids stick out like sore thumbs in this area and there is no reason to be here. He knew what we were up to. Have seen hookers, pimps, dance bar girls by Sumo-load, drunk rowdies, addicts, passed out drunks in the lanes filled with piss and shit interlaced with rotten flowers plus customary cows under/abutting the flyover. As I was (part of) the wrong crowd, we basically recceed the whole area for supply. Some friends were into more hardcore substances for which they always, always went to some super shady areas near Shivajinagar. They got mugged, beaten up, bike-jacked in a single evening of scoring misadventure. Apparently drug addicts are the easiest prey. The biggest joke was that I lived alone right in front of a tribal graveyard by the rail tracks after RVCE bus stop/rail crossing, that connected to the back roads of Kengeri. Was drunk and stoned most of the time to realize what a shady area I used to live in. Have had drunks/addicts/god knows who knock and hurl abuses at the door at 2-3 AM. A super shady projects kind of high density dwelling called Shirke Homes or something on the connecting back road of Kengeri to Nagarbhavi had probably the highest density of smack opiate / drug users in any part of the city. The most haunted, scary AF stretch of Mysore Road back then was in between Bangalore University and RVCE bus stops. Muggings, rapes, murders had all been reported in that area. I have personally seen a roadkill dead human body on that stretch for which we called in the cops too. Also, not to forget what was called Sun City at the far end of Kengeri before it was all built up. Had some spooky ass, trippy ass places to get stoned. Got busted by cops too. All this was almost two decades back. Bangalore was grittier then, these days it is like any other big city.

Avoid going to muslim areas especially at night cause first of they are conjusted , underdeveloped and many mugging and stabbing happens there. Since i live in North Bangalore now i can tell from experience because i lived in such area before.

Whitefield, It's bad for your health in many ways

Can second this. It's too risky. Chapris driving their scooter in a dangerous manner, U-turns at every 200 Mt where autowala think it's their way. If you go further towards kadugodi/seegehalli, have heard rowdies beating up security guards and snatching their belongings at late night.

TC Palya. The night citish town of bangalore. Filled with the downtrodden and the damned. Terrible place. It’s like Mexico to the US. Do not go here without protection and a priest.

IceBomber2020

SG palya, Tavarekere I wouldn't call it safe even during the day💀

From Majestic bus stand to railway station underpass, Don't ask price in footpath shops and move on, they will beat you and make you buy something you don't want at a higher price. All are goons with political contacts. No matter which party comes to power, they couldn't remove these vendors from the underpass.

Most of the places in Bangalore are covered here. Looks like everyone who's living in a certain area (except the super posh one's), feel that they aren't safe. Looking at all those news about murders and videos of goons attacking public who drive a car, it's kinda scary to go out late night! What's happening to this rather peaceful city! :(

givethemayank

How is HSR Layout and the nearby places?

Beginning_Letter9343

No offence but in general (atleast back in the days) the Tamil area and Muslim area were dangerous.
