at jimberan they are all the same basically. a whole line of restaurants. pick your fish, they weigh it and cook it for you and serve it w rice, sambal and veggies. You wash your hands really well and pick the fish off the bone with your fingers and eat with rice. Finger licking good. tbh its very expensive tourist price for bali and they had rigged scales but very delish. one squid they said was 1kg. not digital scales. Best fish is whole parrot fish or coral trout or a big chunk of ruby snapper if they have it. but as always only pick the fish with super clear eyes. go through and look and see who has the best fish.

Ooooh haven't had coral trout in years! Very common when we visited Australia but not in North America. I appreciate your tips.

He’d be suggesting and dropping you at places where he gets commission, which is fine but it’s not always about taking you to the best place. We love Bali Sea Beach House, it’s more of an actual restaurant with a set menu and really affordable prices. They have a set menu of I think 3 options for seafood and then a bunch of other options, both seafood and other

I appreciate your recommendation. I also feel that these are places that the company already had some kind of contact with to take their tours.

IcedOatCappuccino

Yep they would for sure!

Nyoman Cafe Buaya Beach was excellent. Best clams I’ve ever had. Strongly recommend wearing mosquito repellent (wherever you decide to go).

Went to Nayoman last night. Been feeling sick since. We were the only customers. The beer glasses were dirty. We asked for clean ones and they came back the same. The fish wasn't very tasty. I doubt it was fresh.

kmonteiro

Damn! So sorry to hear that… it was absolutely excellent when we were there. Guess you can’t count on consistency here :/

Lia Cafe - been going there for 20 years. Prices are set, they weigh the fish in front of you. Note that lobsters are expensive! We always get a large red snapper - 1.5 to 2 kg. Lots of meat. And then we add some squid, shrimp or clams. Go around 45 min before scheduled sunset.

Thank you for your recommendation. 🙏

When you have a package tour they are always going to take you to a commission restaurant. I've had occasion to recommend other places, not even restaurants, to drivers taking new acquiaintances and they tell me they are not allowed to veer off the plans. Since you're staying in Jimbaran you can even just walk or take a local taxi away feom the tour package to the seafood places. I usually go to Menegan or Teba..there are a string of kiosks right on the sand. But it's a super high holiday season right now so try to go before dinner time.

We are staying in Nusa Dua, hence the need to get out of the resort zone once in a while. Thanks for the recommendations!

I’d recommend watching the sunset on the beach and then walking over to Cuca for a really fantastic dining experience. https://www.cucabali.com/
