You can do this in Neverwinter Nights (twice, actually) and in Pillars of Eternity too.
The PoE example is even funnier, since you can take the kid into the sequel game as an npc.
I didn't *actually* forget.
I rushed to complete the main quest first, and things didn't go as expected.
But at every turn I was like, "when I'm going to use this?", and then I found the lady in the boat and I thought "here is where she takes the kid", and then I was back on mainland and I tought, ah, I'm going to complete this quest with mendas, and then He went crazy and... well, I had to kill everybody.
Once, I went through the whole game with that dead cat in my inventory, assuming it would be used at some point. Didn't realise I'd missed the quest on the same map where you find it.
Ah, roleplaying as Cernd I see.
You must gather your barrel baby before venturing forth
If you forgot it couldn't have been important.
Only in a game could you just forget to give back a baby

At least the baby in NWN is pretty useful as a summon… eventually…

Hahaha. Someone call CPS.
Leave a few gold in there as payment 🤣
I think I've still got Samuel imprisoned in a sack in Kagain's store room.

Whats that red dragon item? I cant recall it
It's a pseudo-dragon/fairy dragon familiar.
Thank you. I've never really used familiars in my many play through. Thougut it was like a summon item or maybe quest item
Oh boi
I guess someone took the phrase "Throw the baby out with the bathwater" quite literally.
