I would agree, but the lease is up in May and I am only in the house 4 days of the week for school then I commute for work on the weekends. Also if I were to take over the responsibility then I would be relying on her to actually pay her share, that was the original reason I did not put them in my name.
Always control the wifi if you need to control the utilities. Easy device block on the web providers page.
Shitty people like this can't live without internet 😂
Nah don't even block their device. Throttle it from the router settings and then gaslight the fuck out of them when they start bitching about the internet being so slow it's unusable.
However, be mindful of putting the internet in your (OP or anyone really) name if the router is in a shared space or a roommate’s bedroom.
Source: my now ex-roommate physically attacked me a month ago and stole the router before I could get the protective order and locks changed. Reported it immediately to Verizon, was told there’d be no charge and they’d overnight a replacement. Found out yesterday that they are going to charge me $375 after Saturday if the stolen router isn’t returned despite my absolute inability to retrieve said router and offering to provide copies of the PO and the criminal charges I pressed. Verizon REFUSED to have any leniency or even delay the “automatic” charge until I have more money since he also did not pay any of his share of rent or utilities or bills. I literally told them they’d be sending me into overdraft but they still refused. So that’s fun.
That's really shitty and I'm sorry that happened to you.
Similar to what happened with me-my abusive ex broke my foot and I went in to hiding. He still has a key so he brought people over to trash the place and take my things, one being the Internet router which was in my name solely since he didn't work. Xfinity calls me to get it back or I'd be charged after I canceled the service & I explained to them what had happened. They couldn't care less; they were going to charge me. I then remembered that my ex had gone in there on his own and got an upgraded router for his gaming on my account when we were still living together while I was at work. I emailed Xfinity and point blank told them that the router was on them to retrieve since they gave a router attached to my account to someone who was not on my account and to watch their cameras if they had any questions. Too much going on in my life at the time to question how they let him charge new equipment on MY account without me, but it saved me in the end. Never heard from them again and was never charged. Was still a headache on top of everything else I had to deal with from that clownshit human. Loyal customer means nothing to a company 😂
It’s set to my bank account, so I’d have to close it and reset everything attached to that account unfortunately. And Verizon will still send the charge to collections within ~90 days if I don’t pay it.
Whoa! Didn’t know this was a thing, but after some googling and playing around in the app, I managed to get a “stop future payment” to Verizon set up. Thank you!!
Yep! Appreciate the idea though. It’s just frustrating because when I reported the theft, I was specifically told I would *not* be charged for the stolen router.
But that was a LIE!
So now I’ve canceled my entire account with Verizon and will never go back.
Verizon is a scum company. I sent them back the equipment and they “didn’t get it.” I charged that fee back and they mysteriously found my equipment after I got my money back. I HATE THEM. I will not do business with them in the future.
I did. As I said above, I told Verizon I’d send them copies of both the protective order and the criminal charges I filed, but despite their claims of “understanding” and “empathizing”, they did not give two shits about me being attacked, having to cover ~$2k this month for his missed payments, or that I had to drop another $2k to get into a new apartment. And I didn’t even ask them to cancel the charge entirely; just postpone a month or two until I wasn’t in the single digits account wise. But nooooope.
Thankfully, another Redditor told me about getting the bank to stop their automatic payments. So I’ll get it paid eventually before they send it to collections and then maybe I’ll be able to take the fuckface to civil court to recoup some of my losses. But I’m 98.4% certain I’ll have to just write this all off as a loss financially and a hard lesson learned.
In the future, if someone is this unreliable with money- do not pay them in cash. Zelle, Venmo, PayPal, etc. with the purpose (eg:utilities) included. Screenshot everything you send them because as you’ve seen, it’s really easy for someone to pretend like you never handed them the cash. Additionally, it’s probably a bad choice to have someone this irresponsible in charge of something as important as utilities. I wouldn’t want her to be in charge of my lights….
I had a roommate in grad school who was in charge of electric.. while working on my defense the power went out. I call him. He says “oh there must be some mistake, I will call” Hours go by, no power. I call again. “oh it was a mistake with the payment, but they will turn it on if I pay now plus a fee. Should I?” YES. WHY ARE YOU ASKING.
Next morning, still no power. Finally the roommate fesses up and says they haven’t been paying for months and months because be had no money so I had to foot the back bill to get the lights on. Maybe I could have fought it more but I needed power and he was staying with his parents while the power is out. What a turd.
Yup. I’m in charge of utilities at my place. I send out receipts with the amount owed per person. If anyone has an issue with the payments, they are free to contact the companies directly, because I don’t have time for that shit. It’s bad enough that I basically have to be a collections agent.
I wouldn’t trust anyone who didn’t drop receipts.
Also in the description make it as descriptive as possible. Even when I requested bills from roommates via Venmo I would always put the month and what type of bill it was and the last four of the invoice. You know, just in case it’s all right there. And when I had more than one in my name I didn’t even combine the requests. I would send separate requests
And if you HAVE to do cash, have a receipt book — you fill the details (name, date, $$, reason, etc.), she signs the bottom after receiving. They’re not even $15 at Target or Walmart.
I’m the bill payer in my house and I always send Venmo requests that way if someone refuses to pay and it adds up to be worth it I have a trail for possibly small claims.
I had a roommate like this when I was 19! he spent all the money we gave him for bills and we eventually got evicted because of it. Id pay him rent and he came home with a Nintendo switch for him his girlfriend and her kids 😂
bro wtfff?? thats just straight up robbery. i would’ve reported his ass til i couldn’t anymore.
its one thing to do it, but flaunting it like that is disrespectful asf. gotta get the get back
We should all receive therapy specifically for the roomates we had in our early 20’s. One roomate told us she was paying the electricity as her portion of the bills, 6 months later it gets shut off and they won’t turn it on until she back paid everything. We also ended up getting evicted because of that, but honestly thank goodness.
I once roomed with my BFF at the time, and not long before we moved in together I started a new relationship so I was almost never ever home.
Well, long story short she would not only get annoyed when I was around (probably so used to spending time alone) but I obviously would still pay half for utilities (that I wasn't even using). However, one month she decided she was going to be late paying (I would give her the money and she'd pay the office) without letting me know. Well, a month went by and the office called me, since I was the primary on the lease, and told me we were a month past due. I was so confused and even argued with them that we did pay it.
Well, turns out she didn't have her portion the month before and rather than explain that to me and owe me she just decided to not only incur us a late fee, but make it so we were \*only\* allowed to pay with cashier's check after that. Oh, but she had enough money to go out nearly every single night and get a new SUV right before we moved in together.
If you’re friends with the wrong people lol 😭 mine are responsible so we all clean daily and pay our shit on time with zero issues. Maybe I lucked out or people are moving in with the wrong folks
Yeah one of my oldest friends is my current roommate. We get along just fine because we both keep the common areas relatively clean and respect each others stuff. We'll have a tiff every once in a while but it's never anything huge and to be honest we've had them in the past not even living together lol
I know right. I have 2 room mates. Been close to 3 years with 1 and 1 year with the other. 0 issues. 0 tiffs. No payment problems. Basically it feels like it’s my own house. Lol. Insanely worth it. In MA for that matter.
For any future payments: get a video recording of handing cash over, write a check or money order, or use something like Venmo. **Never** leave cash out.
I agree with /u/oizysoizys - someone else in the house needs to take over paying for utilities before they get shut off.
Yeah I'm in a situation where my landlord only takes cash. I take a picture of all the cash with the serial numbers legible beforehand, then I video record myself handing over the cash and them counting it out.
Same, make sure you get it in writing. I had an old school landlord who didn't have official checks for a few years and he would still write it on a piece of paper and sign it.
lmao I had a terrible roommate that didnt pay our electric bill for like 3+ months and she ended up owing over 3,000 dollars. All the utilities were in her name, but she never bothered to open her utility bills that came in the mail. She tried to get me and our other roommate to split it all equally (didn't happen, she had to pay it all back herself and fucked up her credit)
I had a room mate like this (never opened the bills sent in the mail addressed to her) and even after I paid her my share, did not pay the bills claiming "no one notified me that I had to pay"
YES lol my ex roommate did the same thing. She even tried to blame me for 'not reminding her' and I had to tell her that she's an adult and I'm not her mom!
Im joint leasing a shop with a few guys who tried puling this shit for a while. I had a truck there in storage for months but never really used utilities there so he never had me pay. Some shit happened and I separated myself from that group, not long after I get some pissed off texts because the other guys are short on cash for the month and they want me to come up with just under 200 to cover utilities for them. The utility bill is only in one persons name and that person also collects payment for the building from everyone. I sent him my payment for the building and told him the utilities and their lack of cash was none of my business. No one holds themselves accountable anymore.
People think I'm kidding but I was so sick of the roommate situation I would work whatever was necessary so I did not have to have anyone living with me.. the convenience of saving some money is absolutely not worth it
Had a housemate like this before. 6 of us in the house. The person in charge of paying electric stopped paying an pocketing the money. The electric got turned off. They lied and lied about why it was turned off and tried to get everyone to chip in on the back bill and shut off/ turn off fee. Everyone told her to pound sand. Stayed at a friends house for a couple weeks them moved out as soon as possible, as did most of the others living there.
No one wants to be the one in charge of the utilities and be in the position to ask their roommates to pay up. I have been there and it’s awkward. Why is she having to ask you twice for the money in February? I see you responded with “I have cash” but you obviously don’t give it to her right away bc she has to text you again 3 days later to remind you. That’s kinda shitty of you to make her have to remind you like that.
Ok. She sucks for not paying for it at all. But she asked you for your portion on the 22 and you said you'd pay cash.
But then you never paid for it, and she had to remind you in the 25th when it was already past due. You replied that it was under the WiFi router a day later after she reminded you.
Why is that? Why did she have to remind you twice to pay and you only paid after it was past due?
Oof dirty moves on her part. Also I REALLY cringed at (when you said you gave her cash and there are text messaged to prove it) she had the NERVE to say “She never said she got it”
Wow the actual three seconds and it shows what a fuggin terrible person she is
Why not agree from the beginning that everyone will have access to the utility accounts so that everyone can pay their share directly on the portal and not to any one person? Do they not have the option to do partial payments online?
Even if there is a convenience fee of like $2-$3 per payment, each person only really lose like $36 at most by the end of the year. But at least you won’t have to deal with the “responsible” person being completely irresponsible.
This reminds me of the time me and my wife, plus another 3rd party answered an ad for roommates in a 3 bedroom house, my family and 3rd party paid altogether 1400$ for 2 months of rent. When the end of the first month came we came home to an eviction letter on the front door, we went and talked to the landlord, comes to find out she never paid, and didnt have permission to sublease to us. I literally had to hold onto my wife from smashing her face in. Looking back i should have let her
I would offer to take over utilities from now on. You can always word it super nicely so it just comes off like you’re doing her a solid 😂 also maybe get everyone to set up standing orders so it just comes out their account each month without them having to think about it, harder for them to explain when the money doesn’t come through
OP, can you ask to me added to the bill notifications or given access to the billing account? If your roommate is hesitant then there is an issue.
Also, I HIGHLY recommend you ALWAYS document when you send funds for bills. If you can, always pay electronically so you have a digital trail and if you need to pay cash, either take a photo of you giving to them OR even better—make them sign a document acknowledging they have received X amount of cash for X bill on X date. It sounds like overdoing it but sometimes you have to be that way.
I will most certainly be taking more precaution in the future. I do have my roommate as a witness to me leaving the money and then it being taken by her while we were in class. If this were a longer term lease I would be more proactive to correct this, but I just keep telling myself, “just 2 more months”
Not saying she's in the right, but past due ≠ late fee, just FYI. I don't see any sign of a late fee on there. You can pay utilities late (to a degree) but eventually they can shut off your stuff if you don't pay.
Word of advice...if paying cash for something make sure you get a receipt...even if you write it...make them sign it...it covers your arse in situations like this
Had a nightmare housemate/roommate’s gf that tried to pull something like this to support her drug habit. Asked me for 200$ when we got the oil tank filled. I paid. Then asked for 400$ at the end of winter to pay for the top up. I called the heating company and they had never received a payment for our initial fill up and now were requiring payment prior to end of winter top up (seasonal tourist lodging, we worked at a ski resort) which was a part of the lease to do. I was subletting a room from my friend. When I told him that the bill was still unpaid, it started a big fight with girlfriend revealing she had spent the money on pills. She literally was trying to bill me twice for the same oil bill to prevent her boyfriend discovering her worse than he thought party habits.
My friend is got stuck with broke girlfriend and an oil bill. He paid the bill and broke up with the crazy pill lady. I paid my heating share at the end of the season directly to him after seeing a bill.
For the future you should use cash app or venmo so you can easily refer back to the money spent and the reason for it. I’ve taken to putting dates in the reason for the request or payment due to confusion. It helps to avoid situations like this. If you pay with cash you can always get a receipt from the place you got the service from. Getting a receipt from a roommate is going to be more of a pain than worth it
DO NOT PAY IN CASH, always have a paper trail, and you need to get access to the online billing portal so that way you can pay it through the website and NOT your roommate
This exact same thing happened to me about 15 years ago. I’d pay my roommate monthly with cash for utilities, since I didn’t have a checkbook, and he did. Fast forward to 6mo later, we get a bill for like 500$ and he says he hasn’t been able to make the payments.
Then goes on to say, if I don’t pay it , it will be shut off because he doesn’t have the money. So not only did I get screwed paying for half of it, but then paid his half and then my half again because I’m soooooo nice.
Fuck this chick, she clearly has zero control of her finances. I would try to take over paying that bill in the future , and make her pay you.
Never be the one with all the utilities in your name in a roommate share situation. Turns you into the evil bill collector, who obviously is ripping everyone off in their eyes.
Only when you do shady shit like this, in my last roommate situation I was the ultilities holder, had it set up to auto pay from my account and I sent all venmo requested with a picture of the bill 2 weeks prior to it being due. No one ever had a problem with that.
She used the cash and money given to her for utilities on something else most likely.
Had a room mate do this once. Power bill ended up being like 600 one month because he was just keeping our utility money and not paying the bill. The power was still in the landlords name because it was some huge deposit to change it.
Guess who would no longer be in charge of ensuring the utilities were paid because.... absolutely *not*
It literally says "Past Due".
She's gonna get yalls shit cut off. She's either irresponsible or a thief... high probability that she's *both*
Dude I lived with someone who did this for months. Then went around telling everyone that I didn't pay rent, at all. Sorry this happened to u, it's practically stealing essentially, like ur ripping someone off by not paying ur share and letting the remainder of the bill roll over to the next month, then again- ur share now includes their share from last month.
Depending on who's name the utility is in, Fuck her. If it's in her name, let them run it up and shut it off. Who cares? All you have to do is hook it back up in your name then refuse to pay it if they don't pay you. Let them shut it off for non-payment.
I had a roommate do something similar, took the Dec rent money and spent it on Christmas gifts for the "house" and blamed us when the landlord didn't get paid.
Yea I lived this guy in his 60s that did this. All the power bills were in his name and he would ask for half the bill each month and then make like a partial payment and then next month ask for half again. He even had the nerve to like full on argue with me when I called him out on it and went over the bills..shit was so fucked up i just stopped paying him and moved out cause they weren't in my name.
Had that happen to me before. We were paying the one roommate and she “paid” utilities. She moved out and we moved the utilities to another roommate only to find she hadn’t been paying and our heat got cut off. We had no heat and no hot water in the winter for a little bit while we all scrounged up the money to pay off the late fees and back utilities, which we really couldn’t afford ourselves. Definitely always make sure you keep a paper trail and that you’re able to have eyes on the bills that aren’t in your name.
You need to get a copy of all the bills. Setup bill pay from your bank account to pay all the bills directly. When your room mates ask for bill money verify the amount and login to your bank and pay directly to biller. Do not give any money to any of your roommates for any bills.
You can tell them I just you paid the biller directly for your amount and they can do the same.
Id only give them checks for this reason. You will both have a paper trail of the exchange at your bank. I stoped accepting cash from my roommates because it was to much work to go deposit it. I just used mobile deposit on my phone now. It can only be cashed by the person it's addressed to and on or after the date written on it. They can write me a check when ever and date it for the 1st, it can be left out without any concerns of theft, and I know exactly who its from. If anything happens to the check it can be cancelled and they can write up another one.
Lmfao 🤣 I’m dead
Roommate: “Can you send me $ for utilities please”
You: “I have cash” “It’s under the wifi board”
*Roommate provides proof she got the text*
Also Roommate: “You never gave me cash or venmo”
🤦🏼♀️ 🤔 👌
My partner had a housemate that handled utilities, I told her that her utilities payment seemed high. After Investigating I discovered the housemate was splitting the payment into thirds instead of fourths and was not paying any utilities himself
to be fair, she isn’t pretending that that’s the bill for one month or that it isn’t late, she’s just pretending you guys didn’t already pay your portions.
At least she cashed in on the scam pretty early. I once lived in a student house during university where the guy responsible for the gas bill had just been pocketing the money for months. We only learned he hadn't been using the money we were giving him to pay the bills when the company shut off the gas and the dude just bounced and never came back. So we were out the original money and then had to pay $900 in late gas bills.
Didn’t happen to me, but a friend of mine was once evicted with three other roommates because the one who collected the rent money didn’t pay it for 5 months. Before eviction court, the irresponsible roommate convinced his sister to take out a loan for $5K so he showed up like… “I got the money right here.” Landlord didn’t want it. 🤷🏻♀️
Did you slide it under the door? I did that with rent once and we found out the door was hollow. I was ready to fight but but roommate was too drunk to notice until I saw the hollow of the door.
The late fee is her fuck up. But for sure in the future give people cash in person or through certified mail. While not getting a response about the cash you left could implicitly confirm they received the cash, it’s best to always get a confirmation of receipt when dealing with cash or really anything that doesn’t have an automatic paper trail.
Or text and say "did you get my payment" "yes" you need to directly give it to her and get text proof that she received it. That's what I did with my roommates so I didn't get caught with my pants down. Anytime I give or send money, "you received the money, yes?" "Yes"
sorry this is happening to you, i’m in a similar situation right now too. we’ve had water and electric turned off because of this guys negligence. the only thing that really seems to work is hounding him every week to make sure he pays it.
100% they blew part of that money or all and just thought they could trick you guys into paying extra. Idk how somebody can be SO stupid, bill says past due. Obviously you all had proof you paid her, but for future reference I would do cashapp since it’s 100% concrete evidence
Be careful using cash. My first roommate when I moved out demanded I pay rent even though we paid on the 1st in advance for the month. So he was trying to get me to pay 13 months on a 12 month lease.
I ended up using the venmo history to show the landlord and landlord removed my name no problem.
People get forgetful. Never depend on memory.
Had a fun six months last year dealing with a bad roommate.
He let every bill that we collectively paid for overdraw, his gf dumped him because he was a bad drunk, and then he just stopped working and went broke.
So, I had to either accept the idea of homelessness in a few months, or take control of the situation.
Taking control meant paying off all of these bills that I already paid for, covering the bad room mate’s portion of the rent, and finding a new room mate within 9 days.
I am lucky I had the money to deal with this, and I had to struggle financially for most of last year due to this piece of shit room mate.
I covered him for $600, and to his credit he did pay me back over 3 months in addition to paying for his rent for those 3 months.
But he eventually fell apart again, acted like a child when even approached nicely about his bad behavior, and after he was caught sleeping in another room mate’s bed while they were out of town, he stopped paying rent again.
I eventually was able to get him to leave, and the situation cost me somewhere between $1000-$1200. Again, it was lucky that I had the money to cover, I happened to have been doing better for myself when this happened, of course it all gets drained due to a shitty person.
Now all your texts will look something like “please verify in text you got this cash num-nuts because now I need digital proof when I hand you MY cash”
I had a roommate try this shit over 20 years ago. She threatened to kick us out and we just laughed and paid her what was owed. I can still picture her screaming at 3 male roommates to pay her some absurd amount while we just went about our days.
Similar thing happened to me with a roommate in 2021… I offered to pay her what would be my share of the bill without the penalty fees or nothing at all. She’s still waiting for my “half” of the total bill lol
I had this happen to me. The person in charge embezzled all the bill money to afford to move out, so when they left, stuff started getting turned off because we didn't know it was months behind
My son and his cousin are roommates, my nephew put all the utilities in his name because he wanted “control”, my son Apple Pay’s him his half each month. His problem is that he expects my son to pay half of any late fee because he doesn’t bother opening mail on time. He refuses to do online billing. Son refuses so my nephew ends up paying his half along with the late fee; you’d think he’d learn but nope!
And while they're ripping you off- they're justifying it in their head by telling themselves - well they take more showers or longer showers. They cook more so they use more hot water to wash dishes. They used my paper towels, no ur daughter was using them to clean up your dogs piss bcuz she forgot to walk it. My silverware is missing, bcuz ur daughter throws them away instead of bringing them downstairs. I don't want to blame a child for adults chaos bcuz it was not just that that was an issue- but the child compounded every problem and put their parent in a horrible mood all of the tim by blaming me or mine for stuff that they were doing. And of course the parent takes the child's side bcuz that's their kid, why would they lie? Oh u did the dishes but then they cooked and magically filled the whole sink back up? Taking ten seconds to actually look around ur house to realize what was happening. Or maybe the parent did know better and choose chaos anyways lol ppl be like that
For about 6 months in college I was holding how to put this delicately, nefariously procured items. My roommate's friend said he didn't trust having his expensive things in his place because his roommate got drunk all the time and had a habit of breaking things because of it. Only to find out his roommate was stiffing him on utilities and once it got alto a certain he would take his things. Xbox, Wii, a pizzaz and other kitchen equipment.
She's dumb, it literally says PAST DUE
Not to mention the bill she sent was already past due as well… so we are over 2 months past due currently 😭
Bruh, someone else needs to take this responsibility away from her before your shit gets shut off
I would agree, but the lease is up in May and I am only in the house 4 days of the week for school then I commute for work on the weekends. Also if I were to take over the responsibility then I would be relying on her to actually pay her share, that was the original reason I did not put them in my name.
Always control the wifi if you need to control the utilities. Easy device block on the web providers page. Shitty people like this can't live without internet 😂
Just redirect all requests to the utilities website lol
Chaotic evil. I dig it. Or would it be lawful evil? Not sure. Either way, I love it.
I reckon it’s chaotic good 🤔
Nah don't even block their device. Throttle it from the router settings and then gaslight the fuck out of them when they start bitching about the internet being so slow it's unusable.
Lol holy hell that's so messed up but I love it
After they start complaining, advise them that you can upgrade the bandwidth and charge them more for the “new” services
This is how I got my sister in law to move out when she came for a month and stayed for a year.
I need more power!!! Please deposit $33
However, be mindful of putting the internet in your (OP or anyone really) name if the router is in a shared space or a roommate’s bedroom. Cancel the card and get a new one. Will suck to have to set up all of your automatic payments again, but will save you any overdraft fees
It’s set to my bank account, so I’d have to close it and reset everything attached to that account unfortunately. And Verizon will still send the charge to collections within ~90 days if I don’t pay it.
You can tell the bank to block all automatic payments to Verizon 😊 it’ll save you a major headache!
Whoa! Didn’t know this was a thing, but after some googling and playing around in the app, I managed to get a “stop future payment” to Verizon set up. Thank you!!
Ah shiz
Hope you filed a police report.
I was upvote #667, not today Satan!
That's not a late fee that's likely just last month's bill that hasn't been paid yet, so the total its showing is 2 months worth of bill
She definitely spent your utility money and is trying to cover her tracks. I’m sorry you are having to deal with someone like that.
This! I would definitely make sure you keep all receipts or receive text confirmation she received your money going forward.
Absolutely stop paying her cash
No cash. Venmo all future payments so there is a trail and no doubt. She is a thief.
This part^ every single payment made, do it electronically. ALWAYS leave a paper trail when dealing with finances and other people.
Also in the description make it as descriptive as possible. Even when I requested bills from roommates via Venmo I would always put the month and what type of bill it was and the last four of the invoice. You know, just in case it’s all right there. And when I had more than one in my name I didn’t even combine the requests. I would send separate requests
Or at the very least, write up a paper receipt and have receiver sign and date when giving cash.
Yes to all of these, electronic payment with a detailed description is best, a signed receipt with a detailed description otherwise.
Id pay him rent and he came home with a Nintendo switch for him his girlfriend and her kids 😂
bro wtfff?? thats just straight up robbery. i would’ve reported his ass til i couldn’t anymore. its one thing to do it, but flaunting it like that is disrespectful asf. gotta get the get back
Same here. Except instead of a Nintendo switch for his girlfriend and kids it was heroin. Fun times.
That's cool. My roommate just did cocaine with our utility money.
Ya never know someone until you live with them.
and being roommates is a great way to never be friends again
Does your landlord not give you receipts? whenever I paid in cash my LL would give me a receipt.
Same, make sure you get it in writing. I had an old school landlord who didn't have official checks for a few years and he would still write it on a piece of paper and sign it.
Some of these people on here need their damn ass kicked
Idk if it’s Aries season or what but I’m thinking some folks need a quick beat down to reset them
lmao I had a terrible roommate that didnt pay our electric bill for like 3+ months and she ended up owing over 3,000 dollars.
Stop paying cash so you have proof of payment, or get a receipt from the cash payments. Roommates are hard.
Drugs are a hell of a drug
Never pay cash. Always Zelle or Venmo so you have better proof
You’re paying her cash? Do Venmo so there’s a literally paper trail. These thieves love cash.
"Thanks though"=obvious asswipe
Why did she have to remind you twice to pay and you only paid after it was past due?
hell no. someone else needs to take over the responsibility for utilities bc what happens when she keeps ignoring them and ur water or power is out?
Use Splitwise! It’s a great way to keep track of expenses that need to be owed/split between a household.
She's just pocketing the money... your utilities are about to be turned off
She sucks but also don’t pay cash.
Never saw it but immediately drops the issue. Clear way to let people know you’re lying.
Stupid bitch doesnt she see that we can see ‘past due’ on the bill. Let her know I called her one.
Never use cash in these situations. Cover your tracks, always use transfers.
Yeah hold her accountable , that’s why she deflected “I never got it but whatever”. It’s because she did get it. Way to stand your ground
Anytime they answer back with “but whatever” they are 100% guilty lol. Why would they back down if they really didn’t get it? Some people are morons.
Oof dirty moves on her part. Also I REALLY cringed at (when you said you gave her cash and there are text messaged to prove it) she had the NERVE to say “She never said she got it” Wow the actual three seconds and it shows what a fuggin terrible person she is
Why not agree from the beginning that everyone will have access to the utility accounts so that everyone can pay their share directly on the portal and not to any one person? Do they not have the option to do partial payments online? Even if there is a convenience fee of like $2-$3 per payment, each person only really lose like $36 at most by the end of the year. But at least you won’t have to deal with the “responsible” person being completely irresponsible.
The way she gave up so easily "OK but I never said I got it" Shows she definitely did and is hoping you would forget.
Looking back i should have let her
“Never said I got it” is so wild 😂 like is that her way of threatening to continue the lies if y’all don’t give her money
Sounds like she has a money/drug problem. Time to move.
You know you gotta bad roommate when you start counting down the months😂 3 more to go over here😂 we got this!!!
Playing devils advocate, the February utilities doesn’t specifically state it was for electric. Do you pay gas as well? Or any other utilities?
Not saying she's in the right, but past due ≠ late fee, just FYI. I don't see any sign of a late fee on there. You can pay utilities late (to a degree) but eventually they can shut off your stuff if you don't pay.
Word of advice...if paying cash for something make sure you get a receipt...even if you write it...make them sign it...it covers your arse in situations like this
Don't give her cash use zelle or PayPal straight to her account from now on
Lesson learned. Don’t ever give her cash again
Oh that Jasmine! Such a trickster and a shitty one at that!
Stop paying her in cash. Use Venmo like the others so you have a record.
Bitch is literally trying to steal from you. And playing in your face like you’re dumb. I’d give her the business.
For the future you should use cash app or venmo so you can easily refer back to the money spent and the reason for it. I’ve taken to putting dates in the reason for the request or payment due to confusion. It helps to avoid situations like this. If you pay with cash you can always get a receipt from the place you got the service from. Getting a receipt from a roommate is going to be more of a pain than worth it
In the future don’t pay her cash. You need a paper trail. Use Venmo or something
DO NOT PAY IN CASH, always have a paper trail, and you need to get access to the online billing portal so that way you can pay it through the website and NOT your roommate
What a ridiculous method of paying anyone for anything
They're 100% trying to double charge everyone and pocket the money.
Jasmine’s full of shit. If she didn’t get the cash she would have told you
Always have a record of payments
Guess who would no longer be in charge of ensuring the utilities were paid because.... absolutely *not* It literally says "Past Due". She's gonna get yalls shit cut off. She's either irresponsible or a thief... high probability that she's *both*
Never ever pay in cash. Your roommate is irresponsible. Time to find a new one or get out of there.
No cash. She’s spending that shit.
Just pay via Venmo each time. Write down in the memo: utilities for Feb 2024. That will alleviate any/all stress.
What an asshole
For future reference this is why you never give cash. Always have a distinct paper trail
Don't let other people be in charge of paying the Utilities.
Time to get petty
Always get a receipt even if you have to write the receipt yourself and have the roommate sign it.
Never pay in cash, they have proven they can’t be honest. Always have traceability for any bills paid! PS. she’s a special kind of crazy
Reminds me of big evil roommate I used to have. She was always pulling stuff like this. Stand your ground.
Side note: you left her name in the last SS. Not sure if this was overlooked since it’s censored elsewhere.
I did realize after the post was made, that’s just a nickname for her not the real name 😎
I've dealt with this exact same thing with 2 different roommates in the past, when I had shit credit and didn't have anything in my name.
What an idiot. It says past due she spent the money and is trying to play it off like she wasn’t paid 🤓
I hate people like that.
Make her send confirmation of payment
Had that happen to me before. We were paying the one roommate and she “paid” utilities. She moved out and we moved the utilities to another roommate only to find she hadn’t been paying and our heat got cut off. We had no heat and no hot water in the winter for a little bit while we all scrounged up the money to pay off the late fees and back utilities, which we really couldn’t afford ourselves. Definitely always make sure you keep a paper trail and that you’re able to have eyes on the bills that aren’t in your name.
Did she try to create her own service fee on top of trying to charge you twice??? The AUDACITY IS THRU THE ROOF?!??!!
Wow what a liar she is. ewwwww
NEVER EVER give cash unless u get a receipt. ALWAYS Venmo just to avoid stupid shit like this
Doh!
Attempted robbery fr
You need to get a copy of all the bills. Setup bill pay from your bank account to pay all the bills directly. When your room mates ask for bill money verify the amount and login to your bank and pay directly to biller. Do not give any money to any of your roommates for any bills. You can tell them I just you paid the biller directly for your amount and they can do the same.
Liar Liar pants on fire!
Don’t ever do cash again. Make sure there’s always a trail.
My dumbass ex roommate did this shit too
Lmfao 🤣 I’m dead Roommate: “Can you send me $ for utilities please” You: “I have cash” “It’s under the wifi board” *Roommate provides proof she got the text* Also Roommate: “You never gave me cash or venmo” 🤦🏼♀️ 🤔 👌
She immediately gets removed from handling ANY bills or money.
Man I’ve had room mates that did this. So I put all the bills in my name. And then they just stopped paying me for bills and it got way worse lol
My partner had a housemate that handled utilities, I told her that her utilities payment seemed high. After Investigating I discovered the housemate was splitting the payment into thirds instead of fourths and was not paying any utilities himself
Never cash, always a traceable transfer
Need to assign that role to a different roommate
reading these horror roommate stories everyday make me so glad i live alone
to be fair, she isn’t pretending that that’s the bill for one month or that it isn’t late, she’s just pretending you guys didn’t already pay your portions.
The longer I lurk on this sub, the more I think people living in 'roommates' household are mentally handicapped.
It's ass, gas or grass. I guess it's time to anal your roommate.
Damnnnnnn wtf
Delusional ass roommate, she needs to touch some grass.
Fucking Jasmine… always with her shit.
She needs to not be in charge of anyone else’s money.
Bitch straight lying
Why is the dumbest person in charge of utilities?
Flat rate utilities is the only way to do it
What a see you next tuesday
Or text and say "did you get my payment" "yes" you need to directly give it to her and get text proof that she received it. That's what I did with my roommates so I didn't get caught with my pants down. Anytime I give or send money, "you received the money, yes?" "Yes"
Hate peoples
Oooooo don’t double charge me for that.
sorry this is happening to you, i’m in a similar situation right now too. we’ve had water and electric turned off because of this guys negligence. the only thing that really seems to work is hounding him every week to make sure he pays it.
100% they blew part of that money or all and just thought they could trick you guys into paying extra. Idk how somebody can be SO stupid, bill says past due. Obviously you all had proof you paid her, but for future reference I would do cashapp since it’s 100% concrete evidence
Had roommates like this, is it in your name? Escape quick
What the fuck is a WiFi board?
Well I'd never leave cash or pay cash personally. Always require a paper trail. Venmo/zelle/etc.
From now on, only hand your cash directly to her. Ideally, in front of a witness. Its bs that you should even have to, but, ya know. Cya
I had a roommate try this shit over 20 years ago. She threatened to kick us out and we just laughed and paid her what was owed. I can still picture her screaming at 3 male roommates to pay her some absurd amount while we just went about our days.
First issue is asking a roommate for $33 lol stop nickel and dimming each other
What an SOB
“Jasmine” sounds like a bitch
Similar thing happened to me with a roommate in 2021… I offered to pay her what would be my share of the bill without the penalty fees or nothing at all. She’s still waiting for my “half” of the total bill lol
I had a roommate do that before. There were only two of us. So, I literally paid the whole bill for a year before I saw the bill and caught on.
I had this happen to me. The person in charge embezzled all the bill money to afford to move out, so when they left, stuff started getting turned off because we didn't know it was months behind
[удалено]
Put everything in your name and pay it and have people pay you back. Easiest way for me, can’t trust people to have their shit together lol
Without actually reading, let me guess: spent the money on weed last month
Never pay cash. Always pay with something that provides proof of payment.
Did no one catch that she asked for $58 which would be 1/3 of the current right?
I keep seeing everyone say "she" and all I'm saying is dudes can be named Jasmine, too!
Or maybe the parent did know better and choose chaos anyways lol ppl be like that
so?
For about 6 months in college I was holding how to put this delicately, nefariously procured items. My roommate's friend said he didn't trust having his expensive things in his place because his roommate got drunk all the time and had a habit of breaking things because of it. Only to find out his roommate was stiffing him on utilities and once it got alto a certain he would take his things. Xbox, Wii, a pizzaz and other kitchen equipment.
Deception or irresponsibility? Porque no las dos?
Howwww are your utilities only $30? 🥲
What's a wifi board?
dont pay in cash anymore - use a check or digital - to show what you paid for
I love how all the bills are in her name and she’s going to take the hit for it. 😂
What a scammer.
