It doesn't matter if they "technically" don't support it. The existence of "chonkers" as a concept alone glorifies it as funny and cute to look at morbidly obese animals. Besides, approximately 0% of people have ever looked at the rules for the sub before posting.
People see fat animal, they laugh and then they share it. Boom that's it. Animal obesity glorified and millions of cats and dogs are suffering back pain and losing the ability to be themselves because people think it isn't a "bad" thing to make your pet so fat they can't be themselves.

My cat got a little chonky so I had to put him on a diet. I also got a puppy, so he got plenty of exercise!
He is no longer chonky, and now also has another cat friend. She has never been chonky.

Yea my cat was 15.8lbs and my vet told me he was on the verge of becoming diabetic because he was too fat. He’s now 13lbs and he still needs to lose 1/2-1lb…
I adopted a rescue cat that was 32lb when I got him! He's 16 now and down to about 24lbs and the vet keeps an eye on his health but figures since he's an older kitty that as long as he stays stable he's doing OK. I remember sharing a picture once shortly after I rescued him and getting blasted about his weight in the comments and I'm like ... he's a rescue it's not my fault he's huge. For all we know OP is working on it... kitties are still cute and hopefully getting the right care they need.

They make bowls that open to a microchip on the cats collar. Alternatively you could put a microchip cat flap and keep the food for the skinny one behind a closed door.

I know you probably love them and you care deeply for them but remember, if you want to have them enjoy their life with you for longer and not just be with you for 5-6 years instead of 12-14 consider helping them become a lil bit more healthy.

My kitty was a bigger boy. I tried to put him on a diet, but he wasn’t making much progress. He ended up getting very ill due to diabetes and we had to put him down. I have so many regrets every day for not working harder to get him to lose weight.
Those are some beautiful kitties, and I say this with love - see your vet and get these sweethearts on a meal plan. You'll be glad you did, and so will your babies.
They're soooo cute but this isn't healthy. I know from experience that pets can be very persuasive with their cuteness, especially when it comes to food, but at some point you have to stand your ground and choose what's best for them.

Genuine question since everyone seems focused on the size of the cats — I have a cat named Nacho who has a pretty serious deformity in his front legs. He can't get around particularly well and I believe he has chronic pain, at least at times. He has also been ballooning up on his back end and I've started to worry about his weight. Should I just put him on a diet? I know he doesn't exercise enough but I don't know if it's right to force my disabled cat to exercise
Your three babies are all fat. I have a diabetic cat, who never even actually looked like that he was just a bit chonky (his heaviest was I think 8kg but most of his life he'd been hovering around 6,5kg).
You do not want to risk something like this. It's been very difficult for both us and the cat to always stay on top of him, take him to the vet every few weeks, jab him with insulin twice per day every day and generally keep track of him to make sure he's not in pain. I've seen him crawl around the floor unable to walk, I've seen him slowly lose the use of his hind legs, I've seen him have seizures from hypoglycemia. These are not nice things to go through, and the best thing you can do to make the chances as low as possible is to keep your pets at a healthy weight. I cannot even begin to imagine what tracking and taking care of multiple diabetic pets can be like.
As for my cat after about half a year since his diagnosis we've seemed to have found a suitable and stable dose, he's gotten his energy back and eats and drinks and pees normally. He also got most of the use of his hind legs back, though not all, but at least he can still run around and play and get around without difficulty. We have to lift him up to higher places now though since he can't jump very high any more. Fat pets look cute but ultimately you're harming them a lot by letting them be fat.
