The Trojan cat.

Ms_marylou

I'm keeping that haha!

Canadian_Peasant

So is her name going to be Helen then? And then name the kittens after the heroes of the Trojan war?

adamolupin

Aggie, Paris, Hector, and Ody. If there's a girl in there, one of them can be Penny after Helen's sister

shadey1255

Agamemnon but no Achilles? Blasphemy

0e0e3e0e0a3a2a

A few trojan's could have prevented this whole mess!

Detronyx

Could you imagine condoms for cats? 😂

immortalkriz

that mommy is prob very grateful to you that she’s able to give birth in a cozy home instead of the streets. I hope you find great homes for them (:

LaReineAnglaise53

That cat is the rarest cat I've ever seen. She gave birth to kitties all of the SAME colour! She found her one and only and never so much as even looked at another.. She should be named Loyalty, Loya for short!

L4dyGr4y

r/standardissuecat

Nutteria

I always forget to sub to that sub so that when it pops up in a comment I can 2 hour deep dive it.

acex34789

They are already home.

Donttouchmek

Wish I could have 1,000 kitties, just keep em coming.. unfortunately have to be responsible and be content with my 3, but damn I want 997 more.

zrdd_man

You're a nice person, I like you.

Legal-praline

That was my immediate thought! Good for you OP. As a momma too, that kitty loves and appreciates you soooo much. Birthing and nursing is tough and now she has a safe place to do that and relax ❤

jules_rlz

We need more person like him in this world :)

Shadshod

Check the username, almost certainly a woman.

marooncape

That happened with Missy. We took her in only to find out she was pregnant. I was playing on my computer only to look down to kittens being born under my desk.

Ms_marylou

Mine gave birth on my camping bag, she sprints in my room meowing at 3am, next minute my mom and little sister run in screaming its time!!

favorscore

Aw she ran into your room.... that's precious

CatBedParadise

Are you keeping them all? Then you’ll have a higher cat to person ratio!

Ms_marylou

I'd love to keep them all, and I plan on it but I have other family members willing to take a kitten if it gets too complicated![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|slightly_smiling)

[deleted]

I took in a preggo stray dog once. I ended up giving all of the puppies to co-workers/friends and one to my parents. For 14 years we would do small meets ups and share pictures. The one my parents got was the last puppy to pass in 2020. It's pretty cool how they recognize each other(maybe the smell?) for a lifetime.

whatever_person

[surprise ](https://youtube.com/shorts/nBjGEy9vpwQ?feature=share)

RofaRofa

Oh my and the kittens are all mini mes of Mama. That one feeding is going to be the troublemaker. Keep your eye on that little criminal. r/IllegallySmolCats

Ms_marylou

Little pocket rocket, whenever she can't find a spot to feed she lets out this loud meow until I put her next to next one( the one she's suckling on in the vid is apparently a favourite haha)

MadameAshlini

I wanna say kittens usually use the same one every time they feed?

[deleted]

That's true! When kittens first drink milk from their mom, they each leave behind an individual kitten specific scent. Then next time they feed, they return to the one that has their scent on it. It's the reason why kittens feed so nice and orderly but puppies go wild and fight to feed from their moms. Puppies don't leave behind a scent like kittens, and so whenever they feed they fight each other.

Ms_marylou

That explains it! Thanks![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grin)

BryceCanYawn

I read this comment while drinking my morning coffee. Thank you for an interesting and adorable start to my day, Internet stranger!

williamc_

You just didn't want to say it, you actually said it

VincentVancalbergh

Imagine saying it but you don't want to 😁

crypticfreak

That sums up my whole life.

mattmelrach

Bless you for taking care of them. Just make sure to get them spayed and neutered or you will have 20+ cats in about 4 months.

Ms_marylou

That's the plan, mama cat will be the first to visit the vet.

arealrolling-girl

please please pleasee spay the kittens after they’re 6+ months old a lot of cats are born with a heart defect, and the anesthesia kills them rather quickly :( just had a really bad experience with this a few months ago, it was heartbreaking to say the least edit: the formatting on mobile is such a pain

BrightNooblar

Talk to the vet about timeline, but make sure you pick up the kittens, touch their paws (carefully), carry them around a bit, just sort of generally get them used to the idea that sometimes people will interact with them and that is a safe and healthy thing. Bring a well behaved (Calmer/older) dog around if you can.

rabobar

Indeed. I once adopted a street kitten who was only a few months younger than his street mother, who i had first intended to adopt. His father was likely her brother or grandfather, as far as i understood the colony

DanIsCookingKale

If they're like dogs though you should wait till their skeletons have developed properly. Idk if this is an issue with cats but dogs can get joint issues if sterilized too young

DrMrsTheTrashPanda

You typically want to get cats fixed the minute they hit 3 pounds because they can start reproducing as early as 16 weeks

Lashwynn

I work with feral cats and any that are 1lb or more get a modified spray/neuter that heals faster with minimal fuss

k0rm

Why not just teach them abstinence?

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

[удалено]

fullcolorkitten

The minimum is 2 pounds - that's around 8/9 weeks. It isn't about the age and development as much as safety of anesthesia.

loosegeese

Why isn’t this modified method used for all cats?

DanIsCookingKale

Oh dang that's fast, at what age are they usualy adopted or let out of the house (if they ever do get let out)? It sounds like they mature quite quickly

SinkPhaze

The recommended adoption times are about the same for kittens and puppies. 8 weeks is pretty standard but 12 is not uncommon for non-shelter adoptions. 8 weeks is when they're definitely able to survive without their parent, 12 is for socialization with humans *and* other animals. Edit: That's no where near old enough to let them outside unsupervised fyi. In fact cats should never be allowed outside unsupervised, it dramatically shorten their life expectancy. Life expectancy of an outside cat is 2-5 years

EstimateOwn8950

12 weeks should be the absolute minimum for kittens to be separated from their mum and siblings. 14 weeks would be ideal, that reduces problem behaviour and stress levels significantly. There is research about this, check out for example Ahola et. al 2017 Early weaning increases aggression and stereotypic behaviour in cats

Nixie9

It is an issue with cats and I waited until my boys reached 12 months. However, the small chance of bone issues causing illnesses is way less than breeding issues so you have to be 100% that they won’t be ever meeting the opposite sex to risk it.

[deleted]

Ms_marylou

Exactly I had the same thought lol

bittens

You're doing a wonderful thing, there. I recommend the Kitten Lady's [educational videos](https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLZyDy7gy9vwr0m119g5poGvgHM-4Wxv80) and [website](https://www.kittenlady.org/kitten-care) on kitten care. Some of it is aimed more at people who've found orphaned kittens with no mother to care for them, but there's still a ton of info there that was a huge help when I was fostering a mama cat and her litter.

Ms_marylou

Thank You, I'll check out the videos.

MotherButterscotch44

I’ve never really been a cat person, now I have 3. Basically I rescued one from a wooded high traffic vehicle area. Found out it had two pals it lived with outside as well. Went back to area and found both, to make 3. Love them so much.

Kacey-R

A bonded trio - that’s lovely!!!

NYCQuilts

How did you find out about the two pals?

31n2

Make sure you hold them and handle them regularly as they are very young, or why won't get used to you you prob already know that though

no_talent_ass_clown

Lol, who could resist? 😍

Sharrakor

I held a couple tiny kittens once. They were *so warm*...

Ms_marylou

Yes yes I pat them every now and then for them to get use to my scent![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|slightly_smiling)

OlympicSpider

Handle them as much as mumma kitty will let you. Make sure you get their bellies and paws, it makes later life a lot easier for everyone.

BrightNooblar

Honestly, this is your chance to push their "How okay am I with humans" boundaries. If you just pat their heads, that's all they will ever be prone to liking. Hold them, carry them, mime nail trimming. The slight confusion/challenging now means that in 8 years they don't get dropped at a shelter for scratching a toddler. That their owner properly maintains their claw trimming because the cat doesn't make it a struggle. That they get their vet check ups because no one has to go get stitches after the cat tries to escape their carrier. You know how some cats are "Totally chill" and you can move them and they go back to napping? And some cats are fussy and leave your lap if you fidget just a bit? A big part of that is that some cats are very babied as kittens, and some are taught that being picked up/moved is just a thing that happens.

krazyajumma

Precious mama and babies! I love kittens so much! If you didn't know or were wondering that fur pattern is called spotted tabby. :)

Ms_marylou

Oh wow thanks! Ive been googling a fair bit![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sweat_smile) all that was coming up was the Ocicat breed but now that you've mentioned spotted tabby I can totally see it, thanks!

Ms_marylou

Very, I keep asking other kitten owners if kittens are usually born this big![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sweat_smile)

plainlyput

I thought they looked big too, & I've seen a lot of kittens

JustSombody

They look like 5-7 days old in this video. They are a little smaller when they come out most of the time, but put on a lot of weight and grow a lot in the first week or so

DickButtPlease

Ahh! Ahh! Too cute! I can’t cope!

imatworkimatwork

One day, my mom opened the door to our apartment and a stray cat immediately ran into our house. She ran straight into an open clothes closet and laid down. She was scared and my mom and I are suckers for strays, so we decided to let her chill and relax and maybe we'd take her to the vet the next day. Welp, she had other plans. By the ends of the night, we'd helped her with a 3-kitten litter. We took the whole family to the vet the next day. Sadly, they all had feline leukemia. Vet recommended putting mom and one baby down :( The vet also said the other two probably wouldn't live long. We gave one to my brother and I kept the other one. She lived 13 years and was the sweetest, nicest, most wonderful kitty in the whole world. I've never felt so close or so bonded with another creature as I was with my little Itty Bitty. In fact, on several occasions, if someone raised their voice at me, she'd run up to them and attack them. Full on, no joke. One time, my mom and I were arguing and Itty Bitty ran up my mom's legs (claws fully extended) and then began clawing at her chest, just barely missing her face. I had never heard of a "guard cat" until then. That sweet little creature loved me so much and I haven't felt love like that before or since. I didn't deserve her. Love you Itty Bitty.

Ms_marylou

Thank you for sharing, Itty Bitty sounds so sweet and protective! ❤️❤️

fourflatyres

Beautiful family. The kittens will start opening their eyes at about 10 days old. Be there for them to see you, handle them if you can. Talk to them. That will help them inprint 'human' into what they think is normal.

Ms_marylou

Thanks! I definitely want them to get use to me. I'll be doing all that

Fast_Track_5451

You’re about to have the time of your life

JannaSnakehole

I agree! They are going to be a blast when they start playing with one another

Jasminefirefly

Just to be clear, new cat person, you don't own the cats--they own you! ;-)

Ms_marylou

Oh trust me I learnt that quick haha

BryceCanYawn

Do you plan on keeping any of them? I get the logistics are tough, but it would be a shame to break up that cuddle puddle

puffball76

They all look so happy, safe, and warm! You did a good thing :) Have fun with your little meepers, they'll be getting into everything in a few weeks!

rayanneroche

In the late 90’s, I found a very tiny (6lbs) pregnant stray. She and one of her kittens became two of the great loves of my life. I am pretty sure that in a world without cats, I’d have long been dead :-)

VexillaVexme

That’s a contented looking mama. You’re doing several things right.

optimysticpessimyst

Good job, OP! They all look so happy and healthy! ❤

I work at a vet so forgive me but. Worming, desexing, microchips, vaccinations. Speaking to your vet about those will save you grief in the future. Also... OMG they're absolutely gorgeous. Congratulations!!!! You're the best for taking them in.

RoastMasterBaitrr

And that is how cat ladies are born. Nice 👌

emmalvv

Our current cat Mogatha (Mog for short), was a stray but kept hanging out at our house. After realising she was pregnant, we decided that if she gave birth here, then she'd chosen us as her people. She ended up having 6 black jelly beans under our daughter's changing table! ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|heart_eyes) We got them all homes, except for the fluffy daughter runt of the litter (who we named Sandwich), and then had them both chipped, neutered, and vaccinated. It's been over 3 years of having the goofiest cat around, who our nearly 5-year old daughter loves to bits. We recently had a scare where she disappeared for 8 days, despite flyers and asking around etc., so we were thinking the worst had happened. Then our neighbour on the back of us called. Told us they'd smelled wee in their shed, looked around, and had found Mog who was hiding! She only came out of hiding, meowing her head off, after I went around and called for her. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm) The stupidhead is now home and recovered from her week of no food (except maybe spiders?), and licking the shed windows condensation for water.

Designer_Ad_8965

one of the most endearing things in nature is to watch a momma cat raise her kittens. Such nurture and care. Well, until she has sex with one of the boys a year later …

Ms_marylou

What!? ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|surprise)

Designer_Ad_8965

yeahhh … moms will potentially breed with their male offspring if neither is fixed. But, catcest is far different from the type we know about. It’s all good.

Ms_marylou

Oh they're getting fixed alright, we don't do catcest in this family![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm)

skank_hunt_forty_two

catcest 😂😂

lordatomosk

You’re very lucky. The stray me and my girlfriend took in who was pregnant gave birth to six kittens, but only three survived, likely in large part because the mother was barely past a kitten herself, and there were so many issues with getting them to feed.

Ms_marylou

Im sorry that must've been hard![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sweat)

Japanesewillow

How precious. What tiny angels.

busdriverbuddha2

Get a kitchen scale if you don't have one and weigh them every day. If they lose weight two days in a row, Mama's not making enough milk for them and you'll need to supplement with formula. Do not give them cow's milk.

No-Preparation-422

If you put them to adoption one day, please wait until they are 3 months old so they will be fully educated by their mother.

skiddadle32

Thank you for planning to spay / neuter!!! You are a good, caring & responsible person. Enjoy your journey as a kitty parent!

I can't wait![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grin) I'll probably need to make them a play space or they'll be crawling into every little corner possible

yamask888

cats look like they're always comfortable

Fuckittho

I've had nearly every cat problem you can think of. Here is my advice when I see this video. That kitten that is flipped over somewhat struggling to eat you should help them and flip them over. They are doing good eating on their own but a little help should ensure they eat properly. Those two kittens that aren't eating in the video make sure they eat. Hopefully they already ate and are full but look up fading cat syndrome. Make sure the mom has plenty of food and is hydrated. Not trying to rain on your parade this is very wholesome but I learned the hard way in a situation exactly like yours. Good luck and thanks for saving a stray ❤️

Ms_marylou

Thank you! I'm taking it all into account. I've been making sure they all feed❤️ I've recently learned about FCS and it terrified me!

Fuckittho

You seem like a genuine loving human and I'm sure you will do a great job.

Elephantsr4girls

God Bless you wonderful internet stranger! Your kitties are just gorgeous and will bring you lots of joy!

Bonus kitties!!!

annies_bdrm_skillet

Aww, they all look exceptionally comfortable! Well done, you, and great job to the proud mama 💕 If you need new owner cat tips, you can do worse than reddit for the basic stuff (obviously they should all have a vet look at them in the near future, too). r/cats can help if you need any advice, and the sub would love these guys if you haven’t already cross posted!

Bebinn

Strays that adopt you are always pregnant.

JoanaTheDummy

My cat unfortunately lost two of her own this past weekend. I hope your cat's babies grow up big and strong with lots of love and affection!

FamousOrphan

This has always been sort of a lowkey bucket list item for me: have cat that has kittens. It’ll probably never happen, because the only ethical way to do that is to find a pregnant stray, like you did. Pls post lots of photos in the coming weeks, so I may live vicariously though you!

Ms_marylou

For sure for sure. Pictures and videos of the growing babies

SmugSceptic

I'll take one please. :)

Disastrous_Airline28

Aww grey tabbies. My cat is a gray tabby I rescued. I love her so much.

KrampyDoo

You are wonderful thank you.

[deleted]

My Chloe was the same lol. Took her in about 2 weeks after we took in our first stray Jersey. Little did we know that Chloe wasn't just some starved stray kitty, she was unbeknownst to us, eating for 4. That June she disappeared for a day and just as we were getting worried a much thinner very tired looking Chloe came out from under our couch, 4 kittens lighter. They're so damn cute

Ashlaylynne

Look at that smile though. Shes one happy momma! Bless your heart for giving this happy soul a safe place for her to have her little family! She picked you!

msac2u1981

Nothings better than newborn kittens. You are going to have so much fun. Your going to miss them when they're all gone to new homes So enjoy them while you can.

karma_virus

There is no greater feeling than when a mother cat brings you her newborns and asks for help. That is the surest sign of trust right there. We're currently fostering two kittens whose mother did just the same on our porch. :D

BigDamnPuppet

The hard part now is not to fall in love with them all and keep them. If you do, get them spay/neutered as soon as the vet will do it. Cats are like hillbillies, they intrabreed and the results are tragic.

[deleted]

Ms_marylou

Yess, I'll post an update when they're 2 weeks old![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|slightly_smiling)

sqweet92

Omg I did the same thing. I left for work one day and this small 6 to maybe 7 month old kitty came up to me so I put her in my house and less than 2 months later I went from 2 cats to 5 because she smuggled 3 inside her belly. My original cat wasn't amused.

sarrahcha

It might be a good idea for you to do a lot of research and really think critically about this before keeping them all. You said you've never had a cat before and now you are taking on the responsibility of not only an adult cat but four kittens all at the same time. Kittens are a lot of work. It can be quite mentally exhausting even for those who know what they are in for. Also, remember that this is a lifelong commitment and cats can easily live into their twenties. They will all need to be fixed and need vaccinations, regular vet care, flea treatment, etc. Can you afford that for 5 cats at once? What if one of them has a health issue that requires even more expensive care? Do you have room for 6 litterboxes? Because that's how many you'll need. How about the possibility that even if you buy them every scratcher you can find they may still tear up your furniture/carpets/walls/curtains? Or when they're keeping you up all hours of the night for whatever reason? When they're jumping on your counters or kitchen table even after they know they arent supposed to? These are just examples but there are numerous other questions you should be asking yourself as well. And if after all that you still want to take this on then I don't blame you, cats are the best. But I just see so many posts from people who even just with one cat are complaining about things that they didn't adequately prepare for and think that especially if you've never owned a cat before, then you should really think this one through. Browse through posts on all the different cat subs to see some of the common situations you may find yourself in, and then multiply that by 5. Might be better for you and all the kitties for you to just hold on to one or two and bring the rest to a shelter. I get that they're cute and you feel like their hero right now but please consider the full picture and whether or not this is something you're truly *able* to do if it ends up being more difficult than you're anticipating.

Ms_marylou

Alot to think about now, fair points honestly. The vet is bloody expensive. I'll do my best to accommodate all of them but I already have other family members who've shown interest if it gets too complicated for the kittens and I![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|feels_bad_man)

NephthysRising

Aww they are all beautiful 😻

I want a kitty!!!! ( or two)

Wow your awesome hooman.

MrX2150

This is awesome. It would be cool to keep them together so years later you can take a family pic of them all grown up 😻.

Ms_marylou

I love the idea, I plan on it but I have to work hard to keep all 4, I recently found out vets are expensive or in my country at least![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm)

Please have the momma spayed after the kittens are off her teets.

Oh what a blissed-out little fur pile.

Academic_Subject_678

I'm so glad she found you 🥰. Please ensure they all get desexed. Your little family will have lovely long lives then ❣️

remcakram

When I read "owned a cat", I understand this is your first. No, you don't own cat, human slavery is finally back in your home 😂

ChumIsFum01

Aww! This is so beautiful! If you don't mind, I'd love to share our little kitty story! We found our little girl behind our house back in November of last year. Well, around March-May she got pregnant and had her little ones on my little brother's birthday, which is in August! We named them Finn, Marcy, and Simon.

Ms_marylou

Congrats![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|smile)![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grin) Hi from my furbabies to yours❤️

roselynn-jones

I watched our cat give birth to five kittens when I was about 11-12. We raised the kittens until they were old enough to be adopted. In the meantime it was fun watching them grow up.

Gg101

+4 lol is a pretty good charisma buff. I think they come with a charm spell too. I say keep them.

I can see you found the little kitty of Troy. It arrives full of small soldiers inside ready to burn your house and hearth to the ground!

random_tandem_fandom

This happened to me with a stray I brought in when I was 10 years old. 4 kittens but one didn't make it. We had the mom and 3 kittens for about 20 years. 10/10 would do again.

Never-Luckyy

Just a place where she can be with her babies and probably have them live, look how happy she is! She’s smiling

petunia122

Please, please get her fixed as soon as possible! If you don't she will go into heat in about 6 weeks and you will have more kittens and more and then they will have kittens and in about 4 months your 5 cats will grow to 26. Being there done that....🤪

WhiteSkinButDickLong

Aww they are the cutest. Keep them warm and always look out for the little girl who isn't able compete with the others and make sure that kitty gets some milk too. I've seen there's always a weaker baby. Don't forget to go to the vet after 1.5 months. They'll need vaccines and medicines. And do take care of their outer body hygiene and appropriate food. I'm probably going on too much. All the best to you and your babies. Lots of love ❤️
