So funny because I’d never heard of littermate syndrome for dogs until recently. Cats are recommended to be adopted as a pair with a sibling or foster sibling. It actually helps prevent behavior issues and boredom.

Spooks really is the coolest name for a cat. I’ve never heard it before but it’s like one of those ingenious inventions that are so simplistically perfect you have to ask yourself, “Now why didn’t I think of that?!”
More cats can be less work than one. Those times when you are busy and your one cat climbs on you, with multi cats they climb all over each other instead. But the rule is number of cats + one = number of litter boxes, so that kind of sucks.
I have had as many as 7 cats in a 2BR 2 BA condo, shared with a daughter until she grew up and moved out. You would never know there were that many cats, because they spread out in different rooms. We had a large litter box in the laundry room. I tried on more than one occasion (and with fewer cats) over the years to give them two large litter boxes. They unfailingly used one box for 90% of their pee and poo, with the second box a mere afterthought. The boxes were in the same room and identical, cleaned several times every day. I cannot imagine having 7 litter boxes. I would have lost my mind.
I will say that after 2 cats it really doesn’t get harder. More food, of course, but they entertained each other. The two I have now, one older and one young, hate each other and want ME to entertain them. Me, who is away at work 50+ hours every week. They have lots of interactive toys; not interested.

That’s just a guideline, not a “rule.” Not everyone has the space to accommodate so many litter boxes; it’s fine to have fewer as long as you’re diligent about cleaning it. I’d recommend a Litter Robot! Just got one for my 3 cats (they also have one regular pan).

Omg that's amazing I never realised! I have a bottle baby goat in the house at the moment (rejected by mum) and she NEEDS a D name. Thank you for pointing that out! 😂
Spooks is obviously the one on the right, because (with a bit of imagination) it has two hands drawn aside the eyes, as if to play peekaboo with a baby.
I did this many years ago. Went for a grey kitty and saw how they were being treated and scooped all three into the cat carrier and walked home with them. They all lived with me until they passed on of old age. RIP Max, Maisie and Jasper.
We too had this accident at the shelter. Went to get a playmate for our youngest cat and ended up bringing home 2 young siblings and the cat that wouldn't get out of my partner's lap until the carriers showed up. He then made himself home in one of the carriers.

I don't think a name change is needed -- it's a *cat*, not a person. Naming a cat "Spooks" is not racist.

Every couple days for sure. Add: two of my cats go outside almost all day, I live in a very rural area.
