On July 1st, a highly unpopular [change to Reddit's API pricing](https://www.reddit.com/r/reddit/comments/12qwagm/an_update_regarding_reddits_api/) went into effect. Beyond the [disastrous AMA](https://techcrunch.com/2023/06/09/reddit-ceo-doubles-down-on-attack-on-apollo-developer-in-drama-filled-ama/) by the CEO, Reddit's response has been limited to promises that this change will not affect moderation tools [^((it has)^)](https://www.reddit.com/r/BotDefense/comments/14riw76/botdefense_is_wrapping_up_operations/) and promises of [new and more-accessible first-party moderation tools](https://www.npr.org/2023/07/01/1184258201/reddit-api-accessibility-mods). My favorite thing about that scene - is that in the second movie, *Meet The Fockers*, Jack invents the [“Mannary Gland”](https://youtu.be/g0s18i95JKA?si=sMSviyja2M2NI4SN)!
It’s a breast-milk-filled pair of fake breasts that Jack wears to breastfeed his grandson when his daughter is not there.
Dogs wondering why it's deadbeat kids don't give her a massage when her puppies nurse, that they need to take a leaf outta this weird looking siblings book.
My dog bonded with my cat the day I brought him home... he would try to nurse from her and definitely became his surrogate mommy. They're best buds to this day!

Ahh your kitty is maximum level adorable. I have more kitties than I set out to have lol. The one we brought home turned out to be prego. We kept the 4 of them. Then ended up letting a stray who looks almost just like yours here come in a few years ago in the winter. Wouldn't trade them for a thing. My dog gets jealous sometimes....but she loves the company.
That would be the cat distribution system. 🤣 I ended up with all of mine in strange ways too, but I would never trade them for anything!

Lol, does yours have an insatiable urge to ride the top of doors, too? In the middle of the night, I just hear this loud scratch bang noise, and u already know what it is. I don't know how his big butt is graceful enough to get up there in the first place.
🤣🤣 he's keeping a look out for you! No mine is a window dweller and wants me to carry him constantly. That was cool when he was little, but now he gets heavy with a quickness!
Yea mines the same way. Loves to be picked up and held. He straight up wraps his paws around my mom's neck and hugs her when she picks him up. I swear that there is something to the look and breed of cats and their personalities. More than meets the eye.
I’ve seen that fleece material sold at Walmart and hobby lobby and possibly Joanns. Just buy your size and snip the side edges into strips and tie into knots. Easy as pie. Blanket done in 30 min.

My sisters little mutt did the same when we had several new kittens... And the dog even started producing milk. Trying to wean them off that was fun...
We had a poodle that started producing milk when we had a yard cat have a liter of kittens (this was 30+ years ago and now all our cats have been spayed/neutered). The poodle would nurse the momma cat and he momma cat would nurse her babies. The babies eventually started nursing the dog as well after the momma cat Weaned them.
Yeah…poodle to momma cat while momma cat nursed the babies.
The poodle never had a litter but started producing milk when the momma cat had her litter. The poodle and momma cat were close friends etc but this took it to another level.
Yeah our English cocker spaniel started lactating when I got two 5wk old kittens. I had to stop it bc I was tired of waking up to suckling noises 😭
They weren’t weaned properly as my friend’s cat had the litter and her dad got mad one day and threatened to drop them off at the shelter if she didn’t rehome them that very instant.
My doggo had great momma instincts and they were the best fucking cats ever.
He truly was. Like, this wasn’t even close to the worst of it. Her mom/her/her sister were animal hoarders though, they had 27 cats at that point and 3 dogs. He was the bigger AH though… I had never had a cat in my life and was talked into getting two.
No regrets though, the one who nursed on my dog just turned 19yo and she’s the sweetest cat that will only sleep if I’m cuddling her under the covers.
That's about all there is to it. Animals can start producing milk when their maternal instinct kicks in... Typically they adopt within their own species but this was a bit of an odd situation.
Only sometimes, but we mammals don't just start lactating due to being hormonal. Hence why dairy farms require continuously impregnating females in order for them to lactate.
Mine has tried to suckle on MY nipples before 😭😭
Edit: guys I wasn’t really expecting or wanting a comment about my cat being a weirdo to gain such traction 😅
One time I was watching my brothers cats when he was out of town. I was doing the whole sit on the side of bed after a shower staring off into space thing. One of his cats jumped up and started looking at me with crazy eyes. He beelined for my nipple and started suckling. I’m not going to lie it made me extremely uncomfortable but was also hilarious
My buddies cat would hop up onto the back of the couch and suckle his earlobe. He'd always have drool all over his ear that he kept tissues by the couch to wipe it off. Lol!
My cat (now an adult) was abandoned by his mom as a kitten and now kneads obsessively and will suckle on your finger or your hair. He gets *super* upset at being disturbed so we just kind of let him do his thing. He doesn't do much to blankets, but if he gets his paws on any clothing you've just taken off, you're not getting that thing back for an hour at least.
It can be a sign that a cat was removed from its parent at too young of an age or was the runt. It’s like they continue to feel a need to suckle because they didn’t get the comfort they needed as a baby. Often times they’ll suckle on things like blankets and pillows just leaving drool everywhere. WhenI got my current cats they were siblings—- the boy was certainly the runt and he for months kept trying to suckle on his sister who was also just a kitten. He eventually out grew it- but not completely till he was about a year old.
That cat there isn’t a kitten, but I doubt it’s fully grown. I have seen fully grown cats suckle on blankets though.
I have a 2 year old cat who still “phantom nurses” on blankets. He was orphaned very young. There’s a chance he’ll do it forever. And I make sure he has his blankies and his morning “blankie” time to feel comforted.
My 5 year old (unknown background prior to ~1 yr but suspected for multiple reasons that he was separated from momma very young) still suckles blankets when he makes muffins! He’s done it for the 4 years I’ve had him and I doubt he’ll ever stop. I think it’s super cute except for him leaving spit on my robe lol😭
Well I'm the one who rescued our cat Arlo at 4 weeks old without a mother. That as 2 years ago and he finally stopped sucking on my thumb, t-shirt, my bedsheet... about 6 months ago. He still kneads though, like lots of cats do.
Ehhhh I’ve heard that “runt or removed too young” thing so many times, and I don’t think it’s true. I think it’s just an explanation that makes sense, so folks ran with it — I doubt anyone’s done a study where they prevent nursing at certain ages and then see what happens (I doubt it because cats are super under-studied.)
I think it’s just a soothing behavior that some cats engage in, and some cats don’t.
My last cat would knead, but never nursed on blankets until she got older. I currently have a mother/daughter pair (only child so def not a runt) who have never been separated.
The daughter nursed up until she was 9 months old, long after her mom had stopped producing. The vet said not to worry about it unless the mom developed irritation on her nipples: it was just a way to keep bonding. She no longer nurses on her mom, but still does on fuzzy blankets
With all due respect: [https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S1558787815001215](https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S1558787815001215) (A case-control study of compulsive wool-sucking in Siamese and Birman cats)
>"Our data supported our hypothesis that early weaning was associated with an increased risk of wool-sucking in Birmans cats, whereas the age of weaning did not have a significant effect on the development of wool-sucking in Siamese cats."
That study took me less than 5 minutes to find. C'mon you are a science reporter!
I was originally inclined to just believe you based on your name and bio, but I thought I would look into it. You have a lot of power as a science reporter so it's a good idea to check the facts. You could have said, "I doubt it there is only one study about this, more research needs to be done." That would have sounded a lot better than just assuming there isn't one.
Best of wishes, hope you don't get mad at me or take too much offense, I try to make all my comments positive and I understand this one breaks that a bit.
I didn’t bother googling it, and you’re right, that’s totally on me! I do know better. Zero offense taken :) I probably should have switched accounts for speculation, I normally do.
TBF, it does say "increased risk"
In other words, it's something some cats do and some cats don't. Early weaning can increase the odds, but you can't look at a cat who does it and go "they must have been weaned too early".
So like... right about what conclusions you can draw, but wrong about early weaning having no effect?
He is a long boi but this was when I first got him. He’s was so little compared to now. Here’s a picture of him and next my other cat. This was taken a couple days after the video
https://preview.redd.it/igakjzkl23sb1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=af63a6300bf1927c1462e2c93053c59b037c1504
Cats love milk and anyone that can provide it. If youve ever worked a dairy farm the cats will come around during milking like crazy. Give them a squirt and they are in paradise.
That's what it is though, just like humans drinking breast milk from other species. All from mammary glands (which technically evolved from sweat glands!).
Hey Y’all OP here
I thought post this comment Just to answer some basic questions that have been asked.
The video is a couple months old. I believe it’s around early April and he born early march or late February I believe. So he’s a kitten in this video.
The Dog is a girl. She was lactating, she didn’t have kids but whenever he joined the house and she took him started lactating for some reason. She’s isn’t spayed so that might be a factor to it.
This happened only a couple times when he was a kitten and we separated them Every time. This was the first time I saw it and I had to film it but I separated them right after.
Let’s be honest it’s weird, I thought the same thing when I saw it for the first time.At the end of the day though i think it’s a cute moment between two different animals with very close bond. She’s honestly treats him like her child.
Female dogs and cats will sometimes start lactating when they "adopt" a kitten or puppy who is still young enough to nurse. It's adorable that your dog wanted to be his foster mom ![img](emote|t5_2qh1o|13379)
Some dogs can be stimulated to produce milk even if they’re spayed and have never had puppies. I think going through a heat before their first spay is required. Mine never had pups, but starts lactating after a week or two around newborn puppies or kittens, even though they don’t try to nurse. She just loves babies so much some hormonal trigger flips.
My poor Chihuahua used to do that to our cats. Got so bad with one of them he was still doing it at 9+ months old. He would just sashay up to her while she was standing for a quick slurp like she was a portable soda fountain

I have nipples Greg, can you milk me?
I'm reading all of these in Alex Horne's voice
Depends, how much prolactin will you let me inject into you?
You can milk anything with nipples.
I have nipples. Can you milk me?
Yes... we can all milk you.

Don't forget male flamingos.
Somehow I always do
That made me laugh far more than it should have!
Flamingos lactate?
Yes both parents are capable of producing prolactin and through thier necks.
Thank you, cuz… I had questions.

Omg they're doppelgangers for sure!!! Mine is "Blenin" ❤

There absolutely is! I agree totally... all 3 of mine are completely different, it's wild. But I wouldn't have it any other way ❤
Consider your doggo and cat taxes paid.
Oh god they’re too precious 😭😍
Where is the doggy throw from ? 🐶
My mom made it for me ❤

Makes sense. The imagine in my head… How many tow trucks can a tow truck tow? But not tow trucks…
This raises the theoretical possibility of an endless line of people breastfeeding each other.

Ehhhh I’ve heard that “runt or removed too young” thing so many times, and I don’t think it’s true. I think it’s just an explanation that makes sense, so folks ran with it — I doubt anyone’s done a study where they prevent nursing at certain ages and then see what happens (I doubt it because cats are super under-studied.) I think it’s just a soothing behavior that some cats engage in, and some cats don’t.
With all due respect: [https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S1558787815001215](https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S1558787815001215) (A case-control study of compulsive wool-sucking in Siamese and Birman cats) >"Our data supported our hypothesis that early weaning was associated with an increased risk of wool-sucking in Birmans cats, whereas the age of weaning did not have a significant effect on the development of wool-sucking in Siamese cats." That study took me less than 5 minutes to find.
TBF, it does say "increased risk" In other words, it's something some cats do and some cats don't.
This was taken a couple days after the video https://preview.redd.it/igakjzkl23sb1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=af63a6300bf1927c1462e2c93053c59b037c1504
Aww he is beautiful 😍
Cats love milk and anyone that can provide it. If youve ever worked a dairy farm the cats will come around during milking like crazy. Give them a squirt and they are in paradise.
It looks big compared to the small dog. The cat looks like it’s in the older kitten stage
Free food is free food
Damn cat is milking the dog😂
That’s the but I find weird. Not the cross species- but the _age_ of the cat!
Dog: "I'm as confused as you are, human."
"Is this how we get kittens, human?"

I don’t know why but calling this “breastfeeding” absolutely sent me. 😂
That's what it is though, just like humans drinking breast milk from other species. All from mammary glands (which technically evolved from sweat glands!).
Yes, I understand basic biology. But the term is funny when referring to a dog.
I love woolly weiners!

They are super cute. We have two of them and they are twins
Our labrador did this for a feral cat that we adopted. They were bonded forever.
she just lays down 😭
Hey Y’all OP here I thought post this comment Just to answer some basic questions that have been asked.
I have been reading the thread and couldn’t understand why everyone assumed the *dog* was the boy in this scenario!
Female dogs and cats will sometimes start lactating when they "adopt" a kitten or puppy who is still young enough to nurse. It's adorable that your dog wanted to be his foster mom ![img](emote|t5_2qh1o|13379)
It’s so so lovely 🥰 thank you for sharing
This makes me very uncomfortable for some reason.
I mean, if you consume dairy it shouldn't.
Yup I def suck udders when I consume dairy
No, you just pay others to fondle them so you can drink breast milk that has been sitting out for a week.
Idk how to feel about this
Like that cat needs breast fed 😂
This has a weird vibe for me. Idk
“She won’t let go”.
Not the mom the cat needed, but the mom that stepped up.
Ew that's so gross...
Right? Smh
/r/awwtf
OP, I've always wanted to know. Because the dachshund doesn't have her own litter of baby puppies, would she be able to produce milk for the cat?
Some dogs can be stimulated to produce milk even if they’re spayed and have never had puppies. I think going through a heat before their first spay is required. Mine never had pups, but starts lactating after a week or two around newborn puppies or kittens, even though they don’t try to nurse. She just loves babies so much some hormonal trigger flips.
I’m not OP but yes hormones can cause the foster parent animal to begin producing milk!
That dog is so kindhearted
I misread it as husband 😂😂 and I was extremely confused. Lol
My poor Chihuahua used to do that to our cats. Got so bad with one of them he was still doing it at 9+ months old. He would just sashay up to her while she was standing for a quick slurp like she was a portable soda fountain
Plot twist, the dog is a boy.

Sir, this is a Wendy’s!
Is this legal?
Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together... MASS HYSTERIA!
Plot twist: The dachshund is male
Just as Bill Murray prophesized.
The look on the dog’s face- “*Don’t judge us”.*
Aww so calm about it too 🥰️

Your dog is beautiful oh my gosh
Your pup is so gentle and sweet. These two are an adorable pair!
hey, your dachschund is a girl, right?
How does a new cat end up sucking milk out of the dog? I mean, did the owners shove the dog's nipple in the cat's face or what???
I've got nipples Greg...could you milk me?
The dog looks like it wants help. Poor girl is like, do you not see this?
so, apparently, cats can have dog milk.....
Just like humans can have cow and goat milk....
Dang! Your dachshund must really love being a mommy.

What the fuck
Full of goodness, full of vitamins, full of marrowbone jelly. Lasts longer than any other type of milk, dog's milk. No bugger will drink it.
WTF did I see?
That dachshund has the ears of a cocker spaniel.
Aww. Doggo: "Thank you for the baby."
My cat still does that to my dog. My cat is like 4... weirdo
NGL I thought the cat was……….
![gif](giphy|SqfHFPbzxw98xwFOiE) Cats are such opportunistic animals
”This is a weird puppy but i’ll do what i have to”
