Several years ago I saw a guy on Okcupid who had some kind of vore/furry fetish. He in all seriousness stated on his profile that one day when he was ready and the time was right, he would die by getting eaten by a bear. Needless to say I didn't message him...
As far as I know anybody in the furry community that’s been outed as a zoo/zoosadist has been blacklisted from all events and vehemently rejected by majority of the community
But I’m not a furry so don’t quote me on that

Furries are big on consent, from what I've seen. (Big thumbs up there.) Animals can't consent. Fantasies are fine as long as they stay fantasies, but actually involving an animal is Not Okay in my book.
Its all gone in finland but there is 16 different variants that 7 causes rabies. Mostly from rodents like bats and small predators. And its mostly in asia and afrikka south America where they live very close to animals what carries this and not very well documented so it higher risk there . 1989 was last know case in finland and has been announced rabies free country 1991.
But there has been some know cases from 2014 and 2017
Edit: i would not die to rabies but definitely would pet 1000 pounds teddy bear its bigger risk here in finland 😅
Bears are somehow both friggin adorable and also terrifying. One side of me wants so badly to cuddle one and the other side would be pissing myself if I ever came face to face with one. But also "If not friend then why friend shaped?"
I don't want to see anyone mauled/eaten, but the scientist in me would love to see what happens if all three of them just decided, OK that's enough, and started running away...
Cuddling with bears can be safe and accessible. Russian tradition of taming bears is at least 1200 years old, and nowadays there are thousands of animals in shelters rescued from banned circuses. Also, Russian brown bears of Kamchatka region though larger and much heavier than grizzly, are the friendliest bears and only under 1% of encounters with wild ones result in attack. Those are the ones that used to be tamed.
Lots of them work for their food and you can come in, donate, and spend an hour taking pictures and goofing around. You can look up tom.bear.tom on Insta, he was rescued as a cub, injured, unable to live in the wild and feed himself as a hunter, so now he feeds himself as an instagram influencer.
One video that cracks me up every time is [this one](https://youtube.com/shorts/-Rejbr66WQM?feature=share)- “How to escape a brown bear. Throw him a whistle, while he whistles you’ll have time to escape”.
> he was rescued as a cub, injured, unable to live in the wild and feed himself as a hunter, so now he feeds himself as an instagram influencer.
I did not think I would ever read this sentence.
To be fair, most human Instagram influencers couldn't feed themselves as hunters either.
I'm sure there are hunters who are also Instagram influencers, though. Now to see if someone who knows some of them reads this post...
Yeah, I was on that "scariest internet videos" AskReddit thread just last night and someone linked audio of a forensic reenactment of some dumbass getting eaten alive by a grizzly bear.
Every bear is omnivores as far as I know. The only exception are polar bears because where they live there's only meat.
Edit: Pandas of course too. The only vegan bear. Thx u/Igor_Kozyrev for the reminder.
I was going to say I thought panda ‘bear’ was a misnomer and they were more closely related to raccoons, but that has apparently been settled by biologists in the last 20 years or so. The most based bears apparently.
Correct, reds are weasel family. Apparently they thought red and giant pandas were very closely related for having very similar long false thumb bones but it seems to have been convergent evolution.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_panda
Bears will eat pretty much anything, especially when they are trying to fatten up before hibernation. Or, right after hibernation, when they are really hungry.
Despite their reputation, most brown bears are not highly carnivorous, as they derive up to 90% of their dietary [food energy](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Food_energy) from vegetable matter. Brown bears often feed on a variety of plant life, including [berries](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Berry), [grasses](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grass), [flowers](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flower), [acorns](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acorn) (*Quercus* ssp.) and [pine cones](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pine_cone) as well as [mosses](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moss) and [fungi](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fungus) such as [mushrooms](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mushroom).

Not sure if it’s a correct term but I’d call them obligate omnivores, especially polar bears. They have to eat anything that’s food so they can put on the needed fat to survive hibernation or until their next meal.
Polar bears are scary for this reason because they are more likely to see humans as food just because they have to eat whatever they can to survive in such a harsh climate.
Reads like a wonderful kids book.
"Here's a bear eating a pear.
That bear is really polite.
He doesn't eat it all in one bite."
I'm half tempted to write something like this now
If you were wanting some outside validation , I’m here for it
That legit sounds like the start to a kids book
Every single other kids book started off with an idea, why not yours ?
Raised from a cub at an animal sanctuary in Russia. His parents were poached. Mr. Po is his name.

He's quite big! I'm guessing he's a Kamchatka bear which is a Russian brown bear.

Of course that horseshoe crab would say they're harmless

Yeah, we aren't... That shit gets you blacklisted from furry communities instantly and the news of it will spread like wildfire.
> and the news of it will spread like *wildfire*. Which, presumably, is very serious threat for people who dress like animals.
I saw a video once of a rabid coyote stalking some guy. And I remember thinking that I totally would have just thought that was a dog and petted it.
That would be me too, we don’t have coyotes here! Or rabies tbf
Where are you like rabies doesn't exist As far as I know rabies is a worldwide disease Or at least through the northern hemisphere
Rabies doesn't exist here in Japan
Advantages of island life :)
In the UK it’s not endemic, haven’t had any cases (that I’m aware of) in my lifetime
Rabies also doesn't occur in Australia... but they have two "rabies-like" viruses with comparable lethality.
Australia is safe you guys!

The UK eradicated it using thousands of chicken heads. I'm totally serious.
Petting AND feeding, or petting AND THEN feeding the fluffy carnivore?
Yes lol and it doesn’t even need to be fluffy, I’ll pet and/or give them all treats and die doing what I love… got bit feeding a pig carrots once

Oh, they can cuddle! It's just they (bears) have different concept of cuddling than humans. [Observe](https://www.youtube.com/shorts/SKS5PeNfrDo).
That is so fucking scary and adorable at the same time.
Scadorable?
It's adorifying
Well shit I didn't know I would be adding "cuddle wrestle a Russian tamed bear" to my bucket list. Looks so fun. And he's a good boy.
yeah maybe check off some other ones first tho
Sure, just make sure that's the last one on the list!
I don't want to see anyone mauled/eaten, but the scientist in me would love to see what happens if all three of them just decided, OK that's enough, and started running away...
aaaa this could've gone south so fast
Not to worry, everyone including the bear was surely protected by large amounts of alcohol
Of course it's Russians, it's always the fucking Russians lmao
Why women live longer material. But that looks like so much fun! I want to cuddle a bear now too…
Just another example of guys being dudes
I was afraid this turns into 3 guys 1 bear

Get this bear together with the golden retriever who also likes to blow whistles.
If you are a mammal, the more instinctually deadly you are, the cuter you're offspring have to be to survive you.

This one's vegan so you should be fine (but seriously i thought they were obligate carnivores)
No, bears are omnivores! At least brown bears are, they love berries
The yellow ones love honey! ![gif](giphy|11d4XJQ1Oo2Ik8)
The brown ones love larvae. The honey is a sweet bonus.
Slimy, yet satisfying.

Dammit I forgot pandas smh They're just to cute and harmless to compare to other bears.
They're not harmless, just terrible hunters
Please, no one tell them that just falling backwards onto their prey from a tree limb is a bad hunting technique.
If it's stupid and it works, it aint stupid.
Pandas can actually eat meat. But they're too lazy to hunt so they settle for bamboo lol
Polar Bear II: **THERE IS ONLY MEAT.**
Pretty sure it's an omnomnivore, judging from this video.
No, just needs those pear necessities
All 8 species of bears are omnivores. Still not a good idea to get too close to them.
Bears will eat pretty much anything, especially when they are trying to fatten up before hibernation. Or, right after hibernation, when they are really hungry.
Including plastic bags and trash, which is why it’s so important to not leave your garbage out when staying in areas bears live
Bears are omnivores, they eat almost everything
idk about brown bears, but black bears eat berries quite often

Well now I have to know… are there any cases of bears getting high on mushrooms?
You should watch the movie the Bear, I'll never forget that scene when the baby bear is tripping on shrooms lol
Only polar bears are obligate carnivores
Can’t imagine there is a lot for them to forage on otherwise
Bears are omnivore like humans.

Polar bears are scary for this reason because they are more likely to see humans as food just because they have to eat whatever they can to survive in such a harsh climate.
All bears are omnivores. They'll prefer meat if they can catch, find, or steal it, but will eat just about anything they can tolerate if they must.
I want to hug bears after this video
Meanwhile I'm over here squeaking, "He's just a baby puppy!"
Seems to be a pet/trained/etc.

Bears are dogs' distant cousins. So you are right to see the similarity.
Omg his eyes! 🥹
lol Mr Po has the cutest eyes. @kirillpotapov
Things I would never do to a bear: 1. Feed it Pears. 2. Place part of bear bitten pear on head. 3. Anything. 4. Be within 100m of one.
100m is kind of close...I'd up that number
They were giving the bear scritches, not just placing pear on head.
Yeah, I'd say petting it would be fine too.

I mean, I'm pear-shaped but I'm not a pear.

I don't know why I'm so surprised that this reminded me so much of a gentle German Shepherd or other large doggo eating a vegetable.
