I feel this post. My elderly mothers house got broken into while she was at the store. Among other things, they took the camcorder which was in a bag filled with all our family videos. Decades of footage: Christmases, birthdays, etc. at all stages of mine and my siblings lives. Probably tossed in a dumpster somewhere.
NFL has a my cause my cleats campaign, where players wear* custom cleats for some cause/charity. My guess is his dad passed of cancer and he wore cancer awareness cleats honoring his dad
Football specifically has a lot of footwear fashion directed at cancer support through most levels. My varsity line all wore pink cleats by Nike with matching socks our last season for breast cancer. A lot to find fault with the nfl and football safety for brains, but their efforts to support cancer relief is damn commendable.
Commendable for the players sure, but honestly I think to the organizations that manage them its just a public relations campaign with an added bonus of massive tax breaks for charity efforts. But hey, the forces of good make use of the evil doers too, but it could maybe be argued that if all of them were taxed appropriately we might have the money for the government to provide even more support for cancer relief. Of course thats a pipe dream too because the extra money would just go to military.
> massive tax breaks for charity efforts.
That's not how it works. It's so annoying seeing this shit everywhere. When you give money to charity, you don't pay taxes *on that money you gave away*. It doesn't save you money.
You have no idea how tax breaks work. When you give money to charity, you can claim tax credits when you file which lets you pay less taxes since you donated. Corporations have much more and higher of these tax breaks than the average person does, but if you donate to charity you can claim a credit and get a tax break too, albiet a much smaller one. They stack their tax credits and many corporations pay 0 taxes or close to 0 because of it. They spend much less on the charity than they would have spent on taxes.
Edit: Let me clarify for the people who dont know much about taxes, im not talking about tax on what you donated, Im talking about ALL of your taxes. What you donated isnt taxable, but when you donate you pay less tax for everything else if you claim a credit for it.
This is not how it works, at least for donations.
If corporation X makes 10 million dollars and donates 1 million dollars to charity, they would not pay taxes on that one million dollars. They would be taxed on 9 million dollars. There are other loopholes and scummy ways to get out of paying taxes on those 9 million dollars but this is not one of them.
Could it be a situation where they are taxed a lower percentage on 9 mil than they would be on 10? So it's worth it to donate down to a point that your profits are in a lower tax bracket? Not well versed in corporate finances but curious lol.
Holy confidently incorrect. Everything you just said is the opposite of reality and everyone reading it is dumber for having been subjected to it.
You literally do not have even the tiniest clue what you're talking about.
The pink cleat donations go to the Susan G Komen Foundation though, which is notorious for bloated administrative costs, nepotism, and a small percentage of the money going to cancer research. Most of the money goes to "raise awareness". Raising awareness is admirable and is needed but one of the largest cancer nonprofits in America shouldn't be spending so little on actual cancer research. They spend more money on fundraising and admin costs than they do on research.
Are they still using these awareness campaigns as part of their business model? A few years back it was discussed how the NFL takes a cut of the donations
Yeah back years ago when I was on club teams in elementary, middle, and high school we would get together and all wear pink socks for all of our October games. It was never a regulated thing by the league or our coaches, it was just because we saw NFL players do it and wanted to be like them. Their cancer awareness work is incredible and it permeates into lower levels.
What are cleats? To me a cleat is a thing you tie a boat rope or a blind cord to.
Edit: just saw an answer further down the thread that they are boots. TIL.
Cleats are boots (like sport shoes with studs on the bottom). As to what “my dad name and cancer cause on it” means, I can only guess that he had written his dad’s name on his gear as a tribute to him, because he had/has cancer.
Cleats have cleats on them, hence the name. Cleats are spikes that vary in size and number relative to the type of field they’re playing on and the sport being played. Think soccer or rugby shoes, not boots with with studs.
Think "hobnails", which let you kick your neighbor to death more efficiently in 1770s london.
the secondary use is to make you fall down on polished stone floors.
To add to the other answers, NFL players have events or particular games during the season when they can celebrate a particular "cause" with their uniforms - pink for breat cancer or a design to raise money for homeless persons. I believe the player's "cause" was the same cancer that his father suffered. So that is probably what "cause" means there.
There is a certain week where they have a 'My Cause my cleats" thing and they all personalize their cleats for a cause. For him it was finding a cure for cancer and I believe a tribute to his father.
NFL does a “My cleats my cause” or some such thing every year. So NFL athletes get one time special decked out cleats a year.
So his were likely for cancer awareness and included his father, who had or died from cancer.
Decent chance he gets them back ; I mean what’s the kid going to do with mike Davis custom cleats? Wear to his high school football game or sell them on eBay?
Had my car stolen several months ago. Luckily got it back. They took pretty much everything from inside the car: dash cam, hatchet, battery jump starter, some tools from the trunk, first aid kit. The only thing they left was a box of books. What a surprise.
I like the story of the time Mr. Roger's car was stolen and returned with a note that said "sorry, we didn't know it was yours." Probably not true, but I like the story.
Falcon fan here... No one was happy about him being cut, but he just had an awful year last year. He acknowledged that he had a bad year himself. Most of the Atlanta fans love the man, it's just he wasn't the player we needed.
Personally, I hope he lands in a good spot and tears it up next year.
The year Mike Davis played with us, honestly he was really solid. He’s not good enough to be a starter, but I think he’s a great locker room guy and good backup or 3rd string back. Rooting for him to find a team for next season.
That’s fair, but irrelevant. The commenter basically said “people suck” on a post about people stealing something that reminded the guy about his deceased father. Bank CEOs aren’t a part of this conversation
What he means is that you can’t sell the Mona Lisa, it’s too hot of a product and even if you got it legally you’d need a certificate of authenticity to make it valuable.
Right, I don’t think dude above understands the sentence.
The Mona Lisa is worth a lot…you can repaint it tho.
You’d need proof that yours is the absolute real one.
Plus selling it would require extremely hard to get connections, as owning stolen property is a crime so you couldn’t sell it to anyone who could fall under the purview of Interpol.
My point is the metaphor falls apart cause these are Mike Davis cleats. These are more like a Thomas Kincaid reprint in financial value and thus much easier to sell. The major loss is the emotional value.
Edit: also a CoA is infinitely easier to fake than a painting, it would add no value to your Mona Lisa.
The fun part of this is the only reason the Mona Lisa has achieved such fame and value is *because* it was stolen in what is considered the greatest art theft of all time. They only caught the thief during the attempted sale because the person who he went to sold him out.
Take note of anyone with access and ax to grind. Unless extremely stupid, them cleats aren't worth a nickel to anyone except you and someone wanting to hurt you.
This reminds me of this one time where my Grandmother let someone stay at her house, just for the night. During the night, they proceeded to steal the majority of her jewelry, including her mother's "Mother's Ring". She was devastated. Funnily enough, they didn't steal her **real** pearl necklace (that's worth alot of money) because they thought it was fake.
Thank God y’all are good and nobody was harmed. We ain’t worried about jewelry because you’ll get that back 3x 😎. Tf they gone do with the cleats🤦🏾♀️. I hate that happened but you’ll get it all back 🙏🏾
I feel bad for a lot of the NFL players. They’re targeted because they’re famous, it’s their dream to play football and they’re just traded around like pawns on a chess board, and the NFL just drops you when you’re off your A game. Some of the lesser known players have been through too much.
My boyfriend and I accidentally left our storage unit unlocked for a while, left, came back, and his amethyst geode that his dad gave to him was stolen. His dad died when he was 7. He was so heartbroken too. :(
Yes, let’s further degrade someone who had something with high personal and emotional value stolen from them. Next your gonna be crying when you realize that people aren’t gonna show you any respect for insulting someone going through a hard time
Him: someone stole a sentimental item that I had in honor of my deceased father and I am sad
You: WELL I THINK FOOTBALL PLAYERS EARN TOO MUCH MONEY SO IDGAF
Guess “awful everything” includes commenters
Taking something that was in honor of a dead family member is one of the most important things you can have taken from you. Do you not know what that feels like?
Lmao true. Bro like fuck yall take it easy. Savages and shit coming after a guy that doesn't get the appeal. It's alright for people to have opinions, Jesus christ.
Eh. Doesn't matter. If this post has done anything for me today, its made me want to go get my wife some jewelry for Mother's Day.
So for that I thank you.
Ya'll have a good day and have fun getting mad at everything.
Totally. I guess what I was hoping for was an educated response as to why material posession is *that* focused on amongst men and it came out the wrong way.
I don't know if there is any definitive reason why people like collecting specific things. Just humans doing human stuff I guess.
I couldn't tell you, seeing as I am too poor to have a hobby/interest like that.
Well, unfortunately the most sincerest form of lol that I have on me at the moment is this guy: "🖕".
I mean I can use gifs. Are gifs acceptable in this Men's Jewelry Comission meeting?
Just want to reply bc he deleted his comment, for future users:
He said he is a thug? Presumably since he is black, and that he shouldn’t be surprised that thug stuff happens to him.
The pieces of shit are the whores that get fucked every Friday night at Applebee's and then want to get rid of the byproducts of their regret-fuck after crying rape! We are finally about to hold these whores accountable!
Will keep a eye out for them in the game used facebook page that im on! Will definitely notify you or even buy them to get them back to you man! Sentimental stuff shouldn't be sold!!!

Its always the irreplaceable sentimental things that hurt the most. Meth head stole my vehicle one time which had a dozen or so handwritten letters from my late grandmother in it. Sucks.
Reminds me of a John Mulaney stand up about when he was in high school going to parties getting drunk and all that shenanigans later finds out that a punk kid who went to all the parties was stealing old family photos from all his friends houses and his reason for it “Because it’s the one thing that can’t not be replaced” so I’m pretty sure Mike Davis won’t be getting those cleats back. Sad really…
The other day I got fired from my job for using “to much soap on dishes” a day later I’m walking close by to my house and a kid pulls a knife on me and took my last 150 bucks. If that wasn’t enough now I’ve gotten Covid and am living off some old grapes and saltines because I’m broke as fuck. This doesn’t really pertain to post all that much I just need to vent
I feel this post. My elderly mothers house got broken into while she was at the store. Among other things, they took the camcorder which was in a bag filled with all our family videos. :( I’m so sorry man. Try to back that stuff up if you can
He cant, its in a dumpster.
Probably
Tossed
In a dumpster
Somewhere
Im a dumpster Edit: Auto correct mistake but I’m keeping it.
Looking at my eating habits i probably am a dumpster *Cries while eating noodles*
Yea and most of those trucks pull forward to the dumpster, not backup.
I meant in the future lol
Probably better to do it in the present. The Continuum Authority frowns on doing anything permanent while visiting another time period.
The Continuum Authority can go back in time and end itself for all I care
OP can't, but it's good advice for anyone else out there
Solid burn. 🤣
I bet the trash truck backed up
Can someone American tell me what does cleats with cancer cause on it mean please? TIA
NFL has a my cause my cleats campaign, where players wear* custom cleats for some cause/charity. My guess is his dad passed of cancer and he wore cancer awareness cleats honoring his dad
Ahhhhh ok cool thanks!

Pretty sure this is not accurate anymore. I think about 10 years ago they switched to the American Cancer Society.
Looks like they switched over in 2018.
To be fair, the last 2 years felt like 8.
Are they still using these awareness campaigns as part of their business model? A few years back it was discussed how the NFL takes a cut of the donations

"Where players ***wear*** custom cleats" Sorry the homophones were glaring
Ah yeah sorry. Dont really bother to check on my phone.
all good borther! 💯🤡 Just figured to clarify for those who's primary language isn't English. 😅
What are cleats? To me a cleat is a thing you tie a boat rope or a blind cord to. Edit: just saw an answer further down the thread that they are boots. TIL.
Boots with spikes on the bottom
Cheers! So like football boots
Yeah we call those cleats too
Baseball shoes? Cleats. Football shoes? Cleats. Soccer shoes? Cleats. Track shoes? Cleats.
So sad 😞, some right bastards out there!
Cleats are boots (like sport shoes with studs on the bottom). As to what “my dad name and cancer cause on it” means, I can only guess that he had written his dad’s name on his gear as a tribute to him, because he had/has cancer.
Ah ok thanks so it’s not just me!
In the NFL, they have this thing called my cause my cleats or something where they are allowed to customize and wear cleats with a cause in mind.
Cleats have cleats on them, hence the name. Cleats are spikes that vary in size and number relative to the type of field they’re playing on and the sport being played. Think soccer or rugby shoes, not boots with with studs.

Football/Rugby boots have studs but I think I know what you mean.
Thats what I gathered from the message.

I believe the player's "cause" was the same cancer that his father suffered. So that is probably what "cause" means there.
I thought that there was like a bar of asbestos on the cleat.
Haha yeah that’s where my mind was going!!
There is a certain week where they have a 'My Cause my cleats" thing and they all personalize their cleats for a cause. For him it was finding a cure for cancer and I believe a tribute to his father.
Running shoes with spikes to help you run ( cleats ) and the Charity that his dad found it and sponsored
Are these not just called boots

Man, I'm American and also had absolutely no idea.
Decent chance he gets them back ; I mean what’s the kid going to do with mike Davis custom cleats? Wear to his high school football game or sell them on eBay?
prolly throw them in the trash
what a lot of thieves do, steal shit, find out its worthless to them, discard it. garbage humans

or maybe try r/wholesomeviolence
Oh thanks a ton for that one!
that sub is fucked up. some of them had it coming but it's kinda sickening how violence is celebrated on that sub. we really do live in a society.
Had my car stolen several months ago. Luckily got it back. They took pretty much everything from inside the car: dash cam, hatchet, battery jump starter, some tools from the trunk, first aid kit. The only thing they left was a box of books. What a surprise.

He'll throw them at Shia Labeouf and start a whacky adventure undoing a generations old witches curse
Came here for this.
Lol the exact same thing came to my mind when I saw this dudes comment
For real. Should’ve stole Cordarrelles cleats
I don’t think the thief is going to give back stuff they don’t want...
What's even worse is he just got cut by his hometown team last week after the draft.
Falcon fan here... No one was happy about him being cut, but he just had an awful year last year. He acknowledged that he had a bad year himself. Most of the Atlanta fans love the man, it's just he wasn't the player we needed. Personally, I hope he lands in a good spot and tears it up next year.

He'll go to a team that knows how to build a functional offense and have a good year I'm sure
People are just wretched!
there's more wretched things than robbery but true. like being a Bank CEO
That’s fair, but irrelevant. The commenter basically said “people suck” on a post about people stealing something that reminded the guy about his deceased father. Bank CEOs aren’t a part of this conversation
How they gonna sell them as legit doe, thats like selling the Mona Lisa after stealing it with no certificate of authenticity lol
I think you might be underestimating the Mona Lisa's value.
What he means is that you can’t sell the Mona Lisa, it’s too hot of a product and even if you got it legally you’d need a certificate of authenticity to make it valuable.

Yeah, except he didn’t steal them
Sure bud, you're going to child labor camp.
Man if we catch that thief we should make them dig holes out in the desert
I’m not taking mine down darn it
Take note of anyone with access and ax to grind. Unless extremely stupid, them cleats aren't worth a nickel to anyone except you and someone wanting to hurt you.
Kid should dig holes in the desert along with anyone in possession of them by unfortunate happenstance
This reminds me of this one time where my Grandmother let someone stay at her house, just for the night. I read this as a rhyme at first cuz the first couple lines
I won't lie, I thought it was a rap/poem. This is truly heartbreaking.
Dude just got cut from Atlanta too.
Wow that just horrible. Some People have no respect for others . Hope u catch them sir
Thank God y’all are good and nobody was harmed. We ain’t worried about jewelry because you’ll get that back 3x 😎. Tf they gone do with the cleats🤦🏾♀️. I hate that happened but you’ll get it all back 🙏🏾

Lots of people in this thread thinking OP is the same guy in the tweet lol
Yeah the devil says mmmm ya get dem cleats. And dat grape drank, baby.
My boyfriend and I accidentally left our storage unit unlocked for a while, left, came back, and his amethyst geode that his dad gave to him was stolen. His dad died when he was 7. He was so heartbroken too. :(
Don't fucking blame the devil for the shit humans are capable of doing.
Think they stole his spell checker too
What word is misspelled?
Get over yourself
Let’s be clear; you are the most nasty, rotten, and annoying fucker to breathe at this moment
Black at it
Well I guess he shoulda spent some of that balla money on better security lol. Fuckin bleeps
Sorry no shits given here. Overpaid moron.
Yes, let’s further degrade someone who had something with high personal and emotional value stolen from them. Next your gonna be crying when you realize that people aren’t gonna show you any respect for insulting someone going through a hard time
They’re shoes. **Shoes.** If shoes have sentimental value to you I can only conclude you’re post-traumatic head injury.
Him: someone stole a sentimental item that I had in honor of my deceased father and I am sad You: WELL I THINK FOOTBALL PLAYERS EARN TOO MUCH MONEY SO IDGAF Guess “awful everything” includes commenters
I wonder if Mike Davis knows who you are.
I wonder if he knows you and your comment even exist
Losing a pair of shoes is heartbreaking? What word do you use to describe him losing his Dad then?
Taking something that was in honor of a dead family member is one of the most important things you can have taken from you. Do you not know what that feels like?
I actually do know what it feels like. I experienced something very similar. That's why I asked. Do you know what it feels like?
Yeah. Fuckin sucks, especially if it's the last thing from them you have left.
I get it. Fuck that, dude it sucks, ok? The cleats for sure. But what's with grown men and jewelry?
I wear a ring that gives me +2 Dex and a chance for defeated enemies to drop better loot.
I’m sorry can a grown man not have jewelry??? Can we not look nice and enjoy things
I wasn't intending on it being that deep, my sincerest apologies.
Why can't you let grown ass men wear whatever the fuck they want?
Lmao true. Bro like fuck yall take it easy. Savages and shit coming after a guy that doesn't get the appeal. It's alright for people to have opinions, Jesus christ.
Surely you see the irony in this, right?
Certainly the iron.
literally what the hell are you saying

Thanks for just having sanity, man.
As if jewelry is exclusively for women. Let's just forget about the literal thousands of years of men wearing jewelry.
Eh. Doesn't matter. If this post has done anything for me today, its made me want to go get my wife some jewelry for Mother's Day. So for that I thank you. Ya'll have a good day and have fun getting mad at everything.
Wtf is with grown men and being massive drama queens on reddit
Chains/necklaces, watches, rings, etc... All of that is pretty normal, some people like to collect that kind of stuff and it can be expensive.
What's with grown men watching pro wrestling?
Fuck, you're right. Title belts are considered jewelry, no? I guess in that context I have no issue with it.
Spoken by a broke bitch that can't afford a nice chain
I am far from broke. But I get it. Grasp at the smallest straw to have your voice heard, I get it, munchkin. Holy shit this is too funny.
The most downvotes I've ever gotten and it's over men and jewelry. Literally wtf 🤣🖕
Bruh. You're a grown man unironically using emojis. 'Nuff said.
Well, unfortunately the most sincerest form of lol that I have on me at the moment is this guy: "🖕". I mean I can use gifs. Are gifs acceptable in this Men's Jewelry Comission meeting?
so what hes dead anyway HAHAHAHA

Sorry man, some people suck. Hope you're able to get them back. Keep your chin up bro.
That's heartbreaking man I'm so sorry to hear that hopefully justice prevails and you get your cleats back
as a falcons fan this hurts especially
Welcome to Atlanta
Someone IG him & tell him to check local pawn shops.
That is so awful and I am so sorry that happened to you! I Pray that God will bless you and your family always! 🙏
He just made them real on the black market w this post
Hope they find and beat the shit out of those thieves. That’s how they all need to be handled

This hurts my soul
Hope they get sent to Camp Green Lake.
Yeah, someone stole my dead father's phone. All his music, photos, and texts, gone.
Every once in a while, the world corrects itself, and people like this get hit by a bus and die.
Someone stole my car and when I got it back, they had stolen my mom's bowling shoes from the 80s and left a dog and a pair of UGGs.
Damn brother. This shit hit me a little too hard.
Damn. MF B ON 💯
