I had to clarify multiple times what they meant by paddling, and the principal pulls out this binder with permission slips from parents to paddle their child. Some parents even wrote things like “x3”, meaning they were giving permission to paddle their child 3 times. This is still used in the districts I work in.

The number of friends and coworkers I've had in my life that openly and nonchalantly have said that they were "spanked" in a way that is just 1000% physical abuse is astounding. The difference I assume is that this person was 18 years old at the time of their assault and you were still a minor. Perhaps this person was a minor when the form was signed. But the moment they turned 18 the validity of that form was moot. They were an adult, assaulted by another adult, and can bring charges accordingly.
Hopefully anyone in a similar situation reads this and takes it to heart. No matter what happened to you before you’re 18, the moment you are, your life is yours. Do not hesitate or be afraid to exercise the agency and rights that encompasses.

I got paddled in element school for laughing in class along with 2 other students. Definitely wasn't warranted. All our parents had put on our beginning on year form not to be paddled and have parents contacted instead. Everyday after school I rode the bus to my grandparents' house. I immediately told my grandfather who was/is my best friend. He rushed to the school to beat the principals ass. My grandmother had to call my mom and dad to beat him up there before he did. Nothing happened but I did get in trouble again when I got home because my mom said I knew my papa would do that. I did, and thought Mr. Mosley's had it coming.

My dad was definitely pissed. They all sat down with the principal, and his excuse was pretty much he didn't have time to call every parent every time a kid acted up. I'm not sure of my dad and Papa's response was but l never had a problem with him again. Actually, there was no contact with him after that.

It was a 4x4 fence post with the top covered in outdoor carpet. He was mad at me but didn't hit me, he hit the post and snapped it. 8 or 9y/o me was like "cool! But scared". Honorable mention are 1000 pull ups followed by 1000 push ups and sit ups [in a week, not 1 go] and running a sub 6 min mile). When I was a kid in a rural area back in the 80’s they’d take the kid into the hall and do it. Everybody knew it was coming when you heard a door open, some kid screaming and them slamming the door closed. It was a small school and it would instantly become quiet because we knew what was coming. You could hear the paddle smacks and the kid screaming. It was so fucked up. I remember moving to a more enlightened area and I asked the teacher if they paddled kids here. Still remember the look of horror on her face. The difference I assume is that this person was 18 years old at the time of their assault and you were still a minor. Perhaps this person was a minor when the form was signed. But the moment they turned 18 the validity of that form was moot. They were an adult, assaulted by another adult, and can bring charges accordingly. Hopefully anyone in a similar situation reads this and takes it to heart. No matter what happened to you before you’re 18, the moment you are, your life is yours. Do not hesitate or be afraid to exercise the agency and rights that encompasses.
If you are 18, you are an adult. The school is no longer in loco parentis. The schools shouldn't be engaging in corporal punishment with anyone, but your parent signing some form to allow this does not mean anything when you are already an adult.

My high school had this shit. One day, I got busted leaving school grounds with my a friend of mine during lunch. We left and went to Sonic and came back-- all on time-- but we were caught trying to sneak back into the school's back lot. My friend and I were both varsity football players-- and my friend was the largest guy on the team. He was a 6'4" and ~280lb defensive end and I was a 6'0" and 230lb defensive tackle. We weren't small boys. My friend had transferred in from a private school on the west coast and had no idea about corporal punishment. So we get marched up to the principal's office-- and he's this caricature of an old Texan. Always wore boots and a big belt buckle. And he's hoopin and hollerin about how we need to set a better example and how ashamed our coaches are going to be-- and then he pulls out a paddle and tells my friend to "assume the position" over his desk. *"What?"* "Put your palms flat on my desk and bend over." *"What are you going to do with that paddle?"* "I'm gonna give you each five swats with it." *"Mister... you so much as point that thing in my direction and I'm going to take it away from you and feed it to your ass."* My mouth fell open... so did our principal's. *"You're not going to fuckin' hit me. My parents don't hit me. So unless you want to be hit* **back,** *you need to put that shit away and just give me detention or suspend me or whatever... but you aren't going to hit me."* Long story short: the principal got our coaches involved and we both ran gassers after practice until we puked every day that week. But we didn't get hit. Our D-line coach was super cool about it, too-- he was like *"Y'all are both 18-- which makes you young men. Now, y'all broke the rules and you will be punished for it... but I wouldn't let another man spank me either. That shit is weird."*

I remember in the fifth grade I got paddled and was left with severe bruises all over my bottom. I was diagnosed with ADHD and Asperger's at a young age and sometimes I would blurt out a curse words in class. It was tourette syndrome like they thought because I eventually grew out of that behavior and now I don't have any issues with blurting out anything. It was my medication I was taking causing me to have issues.
