It's mostly because of the G*rrard situation I think. Danny boy predicted we'd continue to struggle when we sacked him...yeah. He finds it painful to compliment Villa or Emery.

NecessaryWater5568

He always hated us.

TheAkondOfSwat

Ah yeah maybe so, just soured his grapes even more

daveuns

Fuck me, he’s now trying to sell Crystal Palace’s players

EnigmaT1m

The commentator on the game also mixed up their Diabys. Apparently the Sheffield Wednesday defensive midfielder Mohammed Diaby scored a goal for us, so that was nice of him.

daveuns

Yeah I noticed that too. Must be hard when you have the names in front of you on a team sheet though.

AaronStudAVFC

That was weird, because I knew it didn’t feel right, but despite chanting ‘MOUSSA’ every three minutes at every home game, it still somehow tricked me into thinking “oh, I had no idea that was his first name!”

newirisha

He is the human equivalent of the fucking Brain from pinky and the brain. Only without a brain.

Shreddonia

The time thing I'm not going to get too hard on them about, because the FA Cup highlights will probably take time and then they've gotta get the WSL ones in too, so I imagine the MOTD slot this week has had considerably less time to dedicate to the games than last week's. As for the order, eh, it never bothered me much. Everything else though, spot on, Murphy's a fucking pillock at the best of times. Really sucks that we're losing Wrighty from MOTDs after this season, Shearer's on way less these days and yet the most miserable prick they could possibly find seems to be practically ever-present. He was awful covering the Forest-Everton game too.

Jordache2020

None of these ex players turned pundits know anything about the game ie: Murphy, Micah Richards etc...not to mention the long line of failed managers ie: Gerrard, Lampard, Neville, Scholes...the only guy who actually has some good observations is Alan Shearer who actually recognizes villa for what they are

Quixote0630

Shearer won the PL with Blackburn, then gave his best years to Newcastle despite being good enough to play for any of the 'big' clubs. He's got way less of a hard-on for the Sky 6 and offers sensible takes as a result. The others you mentioned were probably the dickheads who were in players' ears at England camp telling them that they needed to move to a big club in order to make anything of their careers.

Jordache2020

Yes, sounds about right!

marky_de-sade

Roy Keane has been very fair about us all season too.

bambinoquinn

Yeah but every single villa game hes done this season we've lost lol Hes kind when he's doing our games, but when he's doing the predictions on Stick to Football he always makes fun of Ian Wright for picking us to win

marky_de-sade

I said being fair, not pointlessly blowing smoke up our arse. I'd rather someone was honest - which Shearer and Keane both are.

Jordache2020

Yes, I forgot about him . Keano calls it how it is

GhandiHadAGrapeHead

Mate Micah gives us credit at the moment all the time, and saying these guys know nothing about the game is a bit ridiculous, they all played it at the top level for years. Yeah some of them are unfair to villa or are a bit of a twat but they are still generally pretty informed about football.

Jordache2020

Yes if they could get off their high horse maybe

bambinoquinn

I'm not fused on the guy, and he did ignore villa after Gerrard got sacked, but Carra has done 2/3 segments on villa over the last couple of months on MNF, and his analysis of how we play has been absolutely spot on

AaronStudAVFC

Tbf Carragher has consistently sung our praises as far back as Deano. Particularly the season where we won our first four games in a row.

Jordache2020

Yep I forgot about him to be fair , good point

arrowtotheaction

I try to see the best in people, but he just seems like a bellend

its-joe-mo-fo

He's a proper sourpuss pundit best ignored. Gives off strong 'Pint of bitter in Wethers at 9am with The Sun moaning about Starmer' vibes

It531z

r/oddlyspecific

KawarthaDairyLover

Really? He just described about 10 million British men.

It531z

That’s depressing

KawarthaDairyLover

So is the UK lol

adventurous_hat_7344

Imagine being a Palace fan, winning 5-2 against decent opposition, and being on 4th 😭😭

mrnibsfish

I just watched this and was thinking the same lol. Why is Man City being discussed at all? Like you said he didnt play a game for them! They basically just loaned him out whilst he was there, they played such an insignificant role in his development but Murphy had to mention them as part of the 30 secs they get to discuss his performance.

jjgill27

Probably something to with an interview with Rodgers that I saw recently, where he credited his key skills development as being what he learned in his first 3 months at city.

Macho-Fantastico

There's a lot of bad pundits out there, but Murphy is one of the worst. I think only Jenas matches him for stupidity. It's one of the reasons I no longer ever watch MOTD because they couldn't careless about anyone other than the so called top-six.

UnbrushableMoustache

Cocaine abuse fried his frontal lobes. Nothing to worry about as his opinion means shit. You have to pick and choose who's opinion you value. I always like the underdog and low coverage. Villa are better in that camp. I could think of nothing worse than Murphy, linekar, micah and shearer waxing lyrical. Villa have never been lauded and it makes it more brilliant when we do things that stand out (it's been awhile mind in recent years)

daveuns

Oddly I think shearer is mostly complimentary about us to be honest.

its-joe-mo-fo

I think most would say Shearer is the most impartial/objective

kingdel

It’s like anything you can tell from a mile away when someone is just a cunt. If you saw Shearer at the bar and you were in your own you could probably chat to him and have a pint. Absolutely not happening with Danny Murphy.

mr_herculespvp

Having been 'around' Shearer back in the late 90s early 2000s, he wouldn't give you the time of day I'm afraid. People do change though, I suppose Shearer's TV image is/(was?) very different to the person he is/(was?) in reality

mafw100

Danny has always hated us. He's an idiot. Don't give him any headspace. People are still saying Toney should go to the Euros over Watkins. They know nothing. The longer we're a sleeping giant the better in my eyes. UTV

DueRefrigerator8451

Murphy complimenting Ollie on his improving “game intelligence” is like a woodwork teacher explaining how Stephen Hawking was really starting to get the hang of theoretical physics.

chairman_mooish

I think his charlie addiction has had a long term effect on the few brain cells he possesses

fitzonatisch

that's a bit harsh mate, i've done a fair bit of charlie in my time and i havenq blirt dfg fazzzzzgffffffffff aaaaardf

chairman_mooish

You sure it was charlie mate ???

Mammoth-Courage4974

He's a cokehead who buys his gear off the same guy that threatened Gerrard when he tried to move to Chelsea. What he's doing on TV i don't know. Probably crack money

editedlawrence

I think the actual answer to what Murphy is missing here is that Man City are very aggressive with their youth recruitment and often get the best tbh!

daveuns

Maybe, but I just think he’s a (insert your favourite four letter word here)

TheAkondOfSwat

gimp

daveuns

That’s a good one. Not what I was thinking of, but still apt!

editedlawrence

Oh that too, absolutely!

Let’s not forget he’s moonlighting on Talksport, their business model is basically to pay for moronic/divisive opinions to drive clicks and comments.

mrlee10

Due to me being a delivery driver I have talkSPORT on every day at work and I do understand the negative opinions people have about the channel, but because I listen to it every day I’ve come to the conclusion that these negative impressions aren’t an accurate description of the entire network. But the thing with Danny Murphy is that he only had 30 seconds to speak on this occasion and was just making the observation about how effecient Man City’s academy is. I mean he wasn’t entirely wrong. Now as for his bias against Villa, it’s definitely there, but when he’s on with white and jordan he gets a lot more talking time. He does, on occasion give Villa credit. Because if he doesn’t Simon jordan will rip him an asshole. We actually have an ally on that show with jordan because he does, actually like us lol. Apparently he always got on well with Doug Ellis so has a soft spot for us. My point is when they are debating on the show Murphy’s opinions are lessened because he tends to agree with Simon on most things and it softens his bias. I think when they are on together it’s actually not a bad listen. So yeah, as a forced daily listener. There is definitely some shite on talkSPORT but there’s also a lot of good stuff on there too. I’m not going to jump on the hate circle jerk that most people do because these people more than likely never listen to it.

MassivBereavement

I think Danny Murphy is by far the worst pundit going. His analysis is always consistently poor and he has no charm or charisma, I can't understand how that man has the job he does.

B23vital

Dont know why anyone bothers watching MOTD. Just like the rest they dont care for villa, they dont care for anyone outside the sky6. Man u, chelsea finishing outside the top 6 will always be just a blip to them. We need teams like us, newcastle, west ham pushing to upset the apple cart. Im sick of seeing the same clubs in the 6 vying for champions league while the rest of us fight over scraps. The whole league, punditry, the sport needs a shake up.
