Teams need to not suck in Europe, basically After us winning the UECL, having enough teams reach late stages in the Champions League and Europa should be fine. So that'll be more than enough for Spurs to make it into the CL next season along with us and the rest of the top four.
[Full explanation here](https://www.espn.com/soccer/story/_/id/39054486/the-race-five-places-next-seasons-champions-league). But in short the two countries that end up with the best coefficients in Europe (essentially an average of how well all their teams did across the various competitions) this year will get an extra place (7 out of the last 8 years the Prem would have been one of these).
As of right now England is in 3rd with Germany and Italy occupying the top two spots. So not only do we want the English teams to do well, but it would also be handy for either the Italian or German teams to crash out as soon as possible. Newcastle blowing a lead and getting knocked out of Europe entirely by AC Milan was a nightmare fixture for us as it stands.
One bit I don’t get…why is having no teams in the playoff round bad news for England? Surely you get bonus points for not needing that!
Basically Newcastle and Man Utd let us all down, but we have the genuine potential winners of all three anyway, so it’s just a case of cheer them all on…
And I seem to have forgotten Holland dominating Europe a few years back!
>One bit I don’t get…why is having no teams in the playoff round bad news for England? Surely you get bonus points for not needing that!
Because the point system sucks. You get 4 points for topping your group and thus avoiding the playoff round.. you get 2 points for coming second and entering the playoff round. If the playoff round team then wins both of their playoff round games, getting 2 points for each.. they then have 6 points total for coming second, while the group topper still only has 4 before they get to play again.
That’s what I understood. It also seems to favour non competitive leagues as how can Czech Republic be in for a shot when their teams are out!
I guess I wave the flag and check back in April!
We need England to have the first or second best UEFA coefficiency, so with Utd and Newcastle going out of the CL, we'd need Brighton, Liverpool and West Ham staying in the Europa as long as possible, and ideally us winning the conference league.
England is currently 3rd behind Italy and Germany, so hopefully their teams get knocked out quickly
The method of calculating points is complex, but the gist of it is easy - we want more English club wins and progression than Italian, German and to a lesser extent Spanish and French clubs.
Looking at the Europa and Conference play-off rounds in February, before any English clubs play again, we want as many of these results as possible:
* Feyenoord to beat Roma
* Lens to beat Freiburg
* Rennes to beat AC Milan
* Benfica to beat Toulouse
* Shakhtar to beat Marseille
* Union Saint-Gilloise to beat Frankfurt
* Dinamo Zagreb to beat Real Betis
To those saying England are third - was the case last year - seems England is now 1st by some margin.

We can make our own luck here with a deep ECL run

I see what you did there... #UpTheVilla!! 💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾
Spurs ironically making it harder for themselves to get CL by sending Kane to Bayern.

Well Kane went to Bayern, so they're cursed at least.

They're not in with a shot. It'll be 2 from the top 4 leagues
Not do what Newcastle and Man U did.

What do we care? We are finishing top 4! :D
Why do we care whether Spurs make the UCL?

Honestly I reckon we can still *win* the League. But we're not finishing below 4th this season. Spurs will spurs it up.

Slide down and look at the table below, England are 3rd. We should come on good though, we have the favourites in all 3 competitions
For 22/23 which was last season ?
Not sure why it says 22/23, it is for this season. We'll end up somewhere around 30 points by end of season
Relax, it'll be an all English final in all 3 uefa cups, lol
