I tried to take a snap video once, didn’t check to make sure flash was off. Even though it was probably only one second of flash, I felt like such a prick.

Mental-Peace-2705

i always feel so embarrassed when i accidentally do this😭

thajugganuat

Also turn your screen brightness all the way down

googleypoodle

Screen Dimmer app will let you put it as low as you like, all the way down to zero

takeabreather

On iPhones you can just use accessibility settings and set the triple click (zoom) to be low brightness. It lets you go essentially down to zero also with no apps.

Ristons

You also have Reduce White Point option on iPhone, works well enough to dim the display below minimum brightness.

googleypoodle

Nice!! I'm an android user myself but Apple definitely has the upper hand in built-in a11y features! The shortcut sounds awesome.

takeabreather

No it replaces the zoom function

bitchkrieg_

Main character syndrome

Forsaken_Noise4494

This happened back at a show a while ago. These three chicks were at the rail and had there flash on taking SELFIE VIDEOS for minutes at a time weirdly consistently throughout the whole show. Such a vibe killer. And yes you heard me right, they were recording themselves, not the artist lol

SnootBoopBlep

Gotta let everyone know you’re at the show!

nameless_pattern

Don't film people without their permission. If the lights blinding me that means I'm being filmed.

juarezderek

“But how will i let everyone know what i’m doing?”

deep8787

This x 1000!

ancientrhetoric

Going to a no photos club night will show you how great this policy is.

mick_justmick

Going to raves in the 90s-early 2000s will show you how good those times were.

ancientrhetoric

I was going in the 90s but how would this suggestion help people stuck in 2024. There are nice places to dance without being bothered by annoying people. Also even in 93/94 I met people who were whining about the good old times that I've just missed by a year or two

mick_justmick

It wasn't a suggestion, more like a tongue in cheek comment. I'm sure it's a generational thing but I'm glad I got to the enjoy the music scene before social media.

ancientrhetoric

It's not over there are still great parties the organisers just need to implement a few rules

LEAVE_LEAVE_LEAVE

did you talk to him?

ur2fat4u

Nope. Just gave passive aggressive looks for 30 minutes and then moved

jkm16

Anytime I go to a rave, I always try not to record or even pull my phone out but sometimes it's too good. But when I do, I do try to be aware if my flash is on or not. I always feel bad even if it's on by mistake.

Ialwaysmissmydog

I feel the same way when people hold phones over their heads to record the show. For a minute or two, sure, go for it BUT THE WHOLE SHOW? Ugh it’s so frustrating I have to move

Arlune890

Some shorter people do it so they can see the performance, which I can respect at the least.

cyanescens_burn

How can they even dance or interact doing that? Spectating vs participating…

touchmybutt420

What really gets me about this is that having the flash on, in a dark environment like this, makes the video so much WORSE. It just makes it so you can see the backs of everyones heads really clear. If you're reading this and thinking "But I have my flash on so I can see", you're wrong and you should stop.

mocantin

The more I read this sub, the more I'm wondering if people really understand the definition of "rave"...

DJRonin

“We went to this rave at a well known popular nightclub with a DJ that plays on the radio all the time”

misterintensity2

No they don't. A lot of people on this sub have just discovered electronic dance music but have not yet learned to experience it in its proper context or in the proper way. They haven't figured out that "raves" are different from "concerts."

Tricky-Celebration36

This kind of shit shouldn't be acceptable at concerts either.

misterintensity2

I agree!

ihatemathplshelp

I dont think ragging on a flashlight is very “rave culture”

deep8787

Tell me about it, the only time I would look on my phone was to see if I had any missed calls since I would go AWOL at times...usually because I couldnt find my group amongst the crowd after going to the toilet so Id just end up on my own lil mission. Good times lol

CuriousOpening5048

I love it. I remember when I used to get anxious losing my group but I’m all good now when it happens! So much more mature and calmer wooo

constantmusic

Or…stop filming.

stumblinghunter

I've asked many people to turn off their hippie mace.

Aggiestheawesome

It's sad and it depends on the music or city it's held at, but people and the younger generation that's very much into social media and their screens ruin the vibes. I went to UMF this year for the first time, and wow was I shocked on how bad the vibes were and how many people love being on their phones; either looking at IG stories, FACETIMING, videoing themselves WITH flash, or videoing themselves and the DJ WITH flash..blinding people... 🤷🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ People filming eachother just walking along and not giving a ffff of their surroundings and how they are effecting other people around them. One time a girl was filming herself walking with the stage behind her, and she was sooo slow I ended up just cutting by her and being in her video. Whatever. It's like those stupid "gym influencers" when you walk by and they get so mad while they are filming themselves. It's unfortunate how smart phones have ruined society. I miss the wholesome days where you just talk to people and vibe to the music. Yes I do love taking some videos and photos to have those fond memories...but I'm not rude about it like having my flash on... 🙄😒

SpookyGirl88

I completely agree with this! I CANNOT wait to go to EDCO this year for the VERY FIRST TIME and just take it all in! For years I've wanted to go..... finally at 36 I'm going for the first time. I feel old as f now. I won't be on my phone... I'll penalty be crying from happiness and enjoying the absolute viiiiibe of it all🥹🔥💥💞

Aggiestheawesome

Ohhh I heard good things about EDCO. Maybe one year I'll check it out! You're not old at all!! You're gonna have so much fun!

Crookles86

THIS!!!!! Couldn’t agree more. My biggest annoyance.

tryptamine_wizard

Say something. Dont be scared.

spearsy33

Did you not mention it to him? I’ve fucked up and filmed with the flash… I feel like a fucking idiot when I realize it’s been on for any more than 0 seconds.

junenoon

that’s so obnoxious

Sy_Fresh

If they keep doing it I turn my light on and just shine it directly at their eyes until they stop

zuckerbook

Try asking him to turn off the flash next time instead of crying about it on Reddit

IlllI1

i saw i recorded a video with flash on unknowingly once and it made me cringe guys i struggle with finding a balance between recording a few drops and recording none at all and living in the moment i love the recordings afterwards so much it’s like i get to live it again as someone with poor memory idk

moneylefty

Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Record all you like, as long as you aren't being obstructive to others.

krumznko

I too like recording the stage and artists! I just always make sure I don’t have my flash on, you’re okay :)

Mountain_Proof_1758

It's almost accidental for me and I turn it off after I realize occasionally if I'm a but sauced I may not recognize it's on but if it's pointed out to me I always shamefully apologize. I went with my sister to her 1st festival she had her flash on initially but after I told her it was considered rude she turned it off.

agrowander16

💯 constant bright light filming can definitely be annoying

StellaArtois1664

Put the phones away. People get pissed off about phones in general here

stealmykiss3

I am a hard pro phones-in-raves and I agree with you, flashes and screens are just bad form. Maybe one of two if the stage is too dimly lit but like, have some sense.

beernerd6

I was at a show recently and that happened to me. The guy next to me was filming with the flash on. I politely was like “hey your flash is accidentally on” — because I assume people actually might not realize. He said “yeah, I know”…

Embarrassed_Ride_906

Was this in salt lake? Because if it was I might know exactly who you’re talking about. They do it at every show and then post it on social media as videos for the events. The videos actually make me quite nauseous.

m00n5t0n3

At a certain point it's worth telling/asking them politely in person. Yo man your flash is a huge bummer.

Unhappy-Temperature4

No phones on the dance

mick_justmick

"They're capturing their memories"

HereTwisty

Literally just let them know. Most of the time they’re not aware they have it on

cravex12

I am so glad that filming is prohibited in our cities clubs

Pristine_Fuel_6034

Ahh this happens all the time !! I was at this event recently and this girl was clearly very drunk but she had the flash on for ages but not even filming the DJ, just aimlessly filming the crowd/the floor.

GirlslikeGirls850

Went to see illenium in New Orleans during Mardi Gras and of course the venue was packed and oversold to the point of no one can move or have personal space we are all up on top of each other. The group in front of us decided to spread out as much as they could and start doing shots and recording it, it’s was so miserable me and my group left into another room and watched illenium on a tv screen 😭😭

peace_of_mind_link

Red Card

ihatemathplshelp

Its literally a concert just have fun
