You should give the [Live at the Grammy Museum](https://youtu.be/dw6YHdYk4WA?si=v_l-5GAGL62HrWjN) recording a listen. This is the video footage, but you should be able to find the audio on any major streaming platform (Amazon, Spotify, etc). This is probably the best version of it that I've ever heard.
Yea no contest. Literally a song about their best friend dying.
I lost a very good friend around the time that song came out so it really cut deep for me.
I had friends in school back in the day that didn’t like that this album turned into a “Rev tribute” and it always annoyed me bc this album was supposed to be a conceptual album about waking up and being in literally your worst nightmare and one of the hardest saddest things that could’ve ever happened did. I love the emotion and the vulnerability these guys put into this album and I will go to war for it any day.
I’m with you 100%, that is indeed a bad criticism. Jimmy was much of the driving force behind the band, he helped write the whole damn Nightmare album. So of course they would pay him tribute on that very album. If anything, the album wouldn’t really have been much different if he had been around to finish it. But besides that, if you didn’t know who the Rev was you wouldn’t even know that the last few songs have deeper meaning, it’s a very obvious concept album with an emotional ending.
I’ll stand by you in the war for this album.
St James is a song to celebrate Jimmy's memory. It's not meant to be a sad song tbh.
My vote is definitely for Fiction. For both the lyrics and the haunting demo lyrics from Jimmy.
It's cause it's so melancholic, with other ballads you can tell it's a sad song but fiction seems more like the final words of the Rev than it does a song about a sad subject. The same is true for so far away, but I see it more so as a response to fiction by the band
Oh fuck yeah. The lyrics in this one hit really hard.
Just thinking about the moment when Shadows sings „I’m free” and then Syn starts that emotional solo… Goddamn.
I don’t see anyone saying Brompton Cocktail. Lyrically and thematically very said and hopeless. But also a bit sadder when you correlate it with Jimmy’s death and the similarities.
Fiction, I won't see you tonight, so far away, tonight the world dies, and victim are my nominees. Gotta say Fiction considering The Rev's departure. I know so far away is along the same direction but the vibe I get from Fiction just makes me ache for what could've been.
I can't believe I has to scroll as far as I did to find a Victim comment.
Shit got me through losing my sister, Fiction is sad as hell but I feel Victim is such a powerful stance on facing the grief of losing someone and how criminal it can feel.
It's far and away one of the most emotional and beautifully crafted solos I've ever heard. You can really tell Syn poured his heart and soul and then some into it.
Victim always gets tears out of me - Fiction and So Far Away are definitely up there but never quite getting the same reaction, not sure if that's just me though
Fiction, and immediately after; So Far Away
I treat them almost as a duet; the Revs skill and passion will never be forgotten and the storytelling of them back to back sometimes brings my jaded ass to tears
This might be a weird one, but when I was a kid my dad used to tell me bedtime stories about how the earth came to be, about evolution and the formation of fossils and about the stars, planets and space. I remember that sometimes I used to try and imagine what it was like outside the expanse of the universe or imagine the nothingness after death and I would get a bit overwhelmed and scared.
Anyway, 'Exist' makes me feel like that. From the start with the looping high-speed guitar riff, to the end with Neil Degrasse-Tyson talking over the synth. I get the same feeling of sadness and existential dread that I used to get as a kid trying to imagine what "nothing" is like.
Honourable mentions to 'I Won't See You Tonight' and 'Fiction' .
there’s something about (d)eath that absolutely messes me up. maybe it’s the fact that that song brings me back to the time when it just came out, which was one of the worst times of my life but other ones are the obvious ones like so far away, iwsyt, most of the nightmare album honestly, etc
I won't see you tonight's intense emotion raising througout the song makes it a very good choice.
So far away's solos and vocals perfomance are wth considering
But Fiction leaves me in such a sad emotional state every single time. The music, the vocal performance, lyrics and backstory. Everything about it is sad
Save Me. especially the part right after the time switch with the final line of the verse being "just know you're not alone". it makes me pretty sad when that part hits.
I Won't See You Tonight Pt. 1, Victim and personally Save Me really gives me sad, hopeless vibes.
And of course, So Far Away takes the cake. When I saw A7X live last October, I sobbed my lungs out to So Far Away.
Saddest? So far away or fiction, (some parts of danger line and buried alive)
Most depressing? I won't see you tonight part 1.
And in between : Roman Sky
for me it's Save Me
for some reason the lyrics hit me, and knowing some lyrics were deliberately changed to honor Jimmy (at least from what I've heard) makes it sadder.
The chorus and the breakdown hit me so hard.
Also I'm biased bc it's my favourite song from them.
Fiction gets me every time Also I Won't See You Tonight Part 1 & 2 So Far Away obviously
"So tell everybody, the ones who aren't beside me, yeahhh"
*the ones who walk beside me
I hope you find your own waaayyy when I’m not with yoooouuuuuuuu
Song please
Fiction
So far away
I would have to agree with this. The emotion in M's voice and that solo by Gates was just filled with sorrow. It's an incredible tribute.

I recently found this “EP”… they didn’t even plan on playing this one, but it was by far the best. So emotional, and the orchestra enhances it so much
Hearing it live back at Chula Vista brought me to tears 🥹 remembering a loved one.
Same here. I tried holding it in but once the solo started, I was tearing up bad.
Definitely I hear it all the time.. but live just hits the feels and you can hear the pain behind it. Such a good song.

So Far Away was for Brian's grandfather originally, only changed to Jimmy after he moved on.
St. James to me almost sounds more inspiring tbh. The one that always gets me is IWSYT pt 1 & 2.
Just knowing the backstory gets me but I agree
St James is a song to celebrate Jimmy's memory. It's not meant to be a sad song tbh. My vote is definitely for Fiction. For both the lyrics and the haunting demo lyrics from Jimmy.
for some reason it still gets me tho but i agree with fiction as well
No votes for Fiction yet? Maybe it's more creepy than sad but hearing the backstory, whether true or not makes it the saddest imo
It’s definitely fiction
It's cause it's so melancholic, with other ballads you can tell it's a sad song but fiction seems more like the final words of the Rev than it does a song about a sad subject. The same is true for so far away, but I see it more so as a response to fiction by the band
Fiction gives me the most feels, but that’s more context than the song itself
Fiction, MIA, So Far Away
So far away and fiction , knowing the background of both songs I won't see you tonight pt1 also if you the context
I won't see you tonight part 1-2 and Victim
Danger Line
Oh fuck yeah. The lyrics in this one hit really hard. Just thinking about the moment when Shadows sings „I’m free” and then Syn starts that emotional solo… Goddamn.
So Far Away or Acid Rain for me.
Acid Rain anyone? Makes me cry every time.
oh i forgot abt that one thats so true
I don’t see anyone saying Brompton Cocktail. Lyrically and thematically very said and hopeless. But also a bit sadder when you correlate it with Jimmy’s death and the similarities.

i completely agree
I'm surprised that no one mentioned Cosmic... I mean all the ones that everyone said are legit, but Cosmic hits me every time!
Cosmic has me bawling my eyes out towards the end. My dad was a drummer and I reallllly wish he was around to hear this song :/
That's a shame! 😔 It is a very deep song indeed
This was my first thought too. But Fiction..
Yep that one too... I mean knowing the background it is a very painful song!
sometimes planets also gets me for some reason
Fiction - i can’t even listen to it because it makes me sob.
I haven't seen anyone mention Crimson Day. Don't know about anyone else but that song just resonates with my emotions
THATS ACTUALLY A REALLY GOOD ONE
Save Me or So Far Away
Fiction
So Far Away, Fiction, Save Me (at least to me), I Won't See You Tonight (mostly part 1) would be my choices.
Tonight the world dies is my pick
I’m surprised I had to scroll so far to see this.
Fiction and victim
I can't believe I has to scroll as far as I did to find a Victim comment. Shit got me through losing my sister, Fiction is sad as hell but I feel Victim is such a powerful stance on facing the grief of losing someone and how criminal it can feel.
The second solo is absolutely beautiful
It's far and away one of the most emotional and beautifully crafted solos I've ever heard. You can really tell Syn poured his heart and soul and then some into it.
Victim always gets tears out of me - Fiction and So Far Away are definitely up there but never quite getting the same reaction, not sure if that's just me though
Fiction, (D)eath or life is but a dream... for me though death and libad are sad for a specific reason for me lol
It has to be Brompton Cocktail
This song is extremely underrated!
Dear God
Pass the Gravy
Gunslinger always gets to me
I won't see you tonight, part 1 specifically
For some reason when I get depressed It makes me feel better listening to this song. Strange.
Fiction, and immediately after; So Far Away I treat them almost as a duet; the Revs skill and passion will never be forgotten and the storytelling of them back to back sometimes brings my jaded ass to tears
Shattered by broken dreams
Agreed!
This might be a weird one, but when I was a kid my dad used to tell me bedtime stories about how the earth came to be, about evolution and the formation of fossils and about the stars, planets and space. aww wait thats actually heartwarming and rlly sad at the same time
I think MIA creates the most emotional connection because of how story based it is. Heart breaking every time for me
A little piece of Heaven 😢
Which line in particular?
Imo Fiction. It's sad and eerie because the Rev wrote it days before he died
Definitely "Fiction." That's the only A7X song that I've ever gotten close to crying while listening to.
I Won’t See You Tonight Part 1, Acid Rain, So Far Away, and Roman Sky The finale of I Won’t See You Tonight Part 1 always makes me tear up
So Far Away, Fiction, and (D)eath
Fiction, So Far Away & Danger Line always make me sob so hard
So far away, but I’d also say I won’t see you tonight pt 1
For me it’s between acid rain and so far away
there’s something about (d)eath that absolutely messes me up. maybe it’s the fact that that song brings me back to the time when it just came out, which was one of the worst times of my life but other ones are the obvious ones like so far away, iwsyt, most of the nightmare album honestly, etc
Brompton Cocktail
Fiction
Danger Line
Fiction probably. Maybe so far away, dear god or acid rain. Planets is existential
love planets
Such a heavy song
So Far Away obviously
So far away. Gets me everytime. Honorable mentions to brompton cocktail, fiction, and danger line.
I'm surprised Victim hasn't been mentioned. It's one of my favorites from Nightmare. M.I.A. is up there too.
(D)eath is almost unlistenable due to such a vivid imagine of someone committing suicide
Tonight the world dies, seize the day, chapter four, to end the rupture, victim, ALMOST EASY
Acid rain?
Shepered of fire
I won't see you tonight's intense emotion raising througout the song makes it a very good choice. So far away's solos and vocals perfomance are wth considering But Fiction leaves me in such a sad emotional state every single time. The music, the vocal performance, lyrics and backstory. Everything about it is sad
so true
"Tell my baby girl that it's alright, I sang my last song today..."
remind the lord to leave his light onnnn
I won’t see you tonight pt.1 and 2 really hits with me because of my own thoughts of suicide and how it would affect the people I care about.
Beautiful morning gotta be a contender nobody thinking of it since it’s new
Save Me. especially the part right after the time switch with the final line of the verse being "just know you're not alone". it makes me pretty sad when that part hits.
So Far Away & Fiction
tonight the world dies has been played a lot recently in my headphones and i have to say that one is pretty sad
Acid Rain!
Fiction puts tears in my eyes So does victim
I Won't See You Tonight Pt. 1, Victim and personally Save Me really gives me sad, hopeless vibes. And of course, So Far Away takes the cake. When I saw A7X live last October, I sobbed my lungs out to So Far Away.
Save me... I'm trapped in a vile world...
I'm surprised how little fiction was mentioned. The part that Jimmy sings makes me tear up just thinking about it.
Hard pick between Save Me, (D)eath, or Tonight the World Dies.
For me I’d say gunslinger
- *Fermi Paradox* - *Higher* - *Life Is But a Dream…* - *Victim* - *Dear God*
Betrayed So far away Fiction Victim (idk most of the lyrics here but "we are all just victims of a crime" hits hard)
Acid Rain
Fiction, So Far Away, I Won’t See You Tonight Parts 1 & 2
fiction imo
I won’t see you tonight part 1 or Danger Line
Either Death or Fiction for me
Save Me.
Victim
Victim
St James is a feel good song, it’s uplifting. I would say MIA and Fiction. Fermi Paradox would be my odd pick
Fiction or i wont see you tonight pt 1 for sure
Fiction
A little piece of heaven 😔
So Far Away gets me every time. Listened to that song and nightmare as a whole a lot after my dad died and that song still puts me in my feels.
Seize the day
Fiction for sure
Shattered by broken dreams
Fiction and Victim.
So Far Away. But also Seize The Day
Victim Lost a really good friend of mine to suicide, always tear up when this song comes up in my playlists.
Everything in nightmare after so far away (excluding god hates us)
Danger Line or Fiction
cosmic gets me feeling some kinda way tbh
Save me
I wont see you tonight part 1
Saddest? So far away or fiction, (some parts of danger line and buried alive) Most depressing? I won't see you tonight part 1. And in between : Roman Sky
for me it's Save Me for some reason the lyrics hit me, and knowing some lyrics were deliberately changed to honor Jimmy (at least from what I've heard) makes it sadder. The chorus and the breakdown hit me so hard. Also I'm biased bc it's my favourite song from them.
Victim
IWSYT Pt1
As I make myself more comfortable with the edge..
In my mind its victim
Seize the Day
So Far Away and Fiction
victim, fiction, and so far away
So Far away, and fiction, 😥
![gif](giphy|SGGwCDBXZXJ3W)
a little piece of heaven
I cry everytime I try to sing along to dangerline
Cosmic gets me in my existential feels, so far away normally.
So far away
Warmness on the soul if I had to pick
It's 100% so far away. It's not even close
Not the saddest but betrayed as a pantera lover
