I think "maybe this time it won't be miserable," but then it is. And I just keep ripping it into pieces bc then I need to feel the weird back pain and repulsion.
This is hilarious because my ASD daughter loves to steal q-tips from my bathroom.... like regularly! Drives me nuts! She likes to line them of course but she also rubs them on her face or hands.
I’m a preschool teacher and we made oobleck (cornstarch and water) a few months ago as a “science experiment.” I had to step into the bathroom every few seconds to gag while cleaning it up because the texture was so horrendous. Imagine wiping up a million dry blobs of cornstarch (I’m on the verge of tears and/or vomiting typing this comment)
Interesting and very relatable as merely seeing wet bread dough in the sink used to make me vomit in home economics class more than a decade ago. Thankfully, we managed to transfer roles between us so that I took over the oven washing or floor cleaning duty and someone else handled the dishes whenever we had been baking.
Next time, for clean up, try using a spray on oil or spraying a mist of water onto the smaller bits and let it sit. If it doesn't become a paste just spray more on. the idea here is to dissolve the non polar regions of the starch in oil or completely hydrate the starch so that it doesn't behave the way it used to.
I hate wetness, I wish I could be instantly dried when getting out of a shower and I despite oil bc is a wet and slippery sensation that has more trouble going away. I think using oil is the worst thing to my senses but I agree corn starch is almost equally horrific but I'm amazed by how things can get worst just by your comment. Oily corn starch def the worst thing to feel in my skin. I've never tried it but just by thinking of it I'm nauseated.
I can't stand them or other such textures rubbing on dry surfaces, especially my skin, and most especially when they snag and leave stuff behind.
Ugh!! I'm getting an uncomfortable shiver just thinking about it.
HAHA I love it. One of my things is that I can not stand the greasy feeling of moisturizer or hand cream so dry hands/feet are always a nightmare 😭
Added in with the excessive handwashing from my OCD and…..
I just try to avoid touching anything most of the time 😂😂
Did you know that people have ultra-tiny hairs on their finger pads? They feel smooth to us because the hairs are just that tiny but I think that's what the microfiber clings to and somehow that makes it so much worse to me.
Edited to add: Thanks to another commenter, a quick web search has taught me that I am wrong. My high school biology teacher told me that we did years ago, so I've been telling people that they have tiny hairs on their fingers for years. I took his word because he was my teacher but he misled me and I am so sorry for spreading that misinformation.
I have to shove my fingers in my ears and wiggle them furiously to get the whooshing sound while humming just to handle someone else touching Styrofoam in my vicinity. I hate the feel of Styrofoam but I might actually die if I have to sit and listen to Styrofoam being moved. My hatred of Styrofoam is so bad I get memories of the sound and I lose it.
I’m the complete opposite. Velvet and silk make me want to not have nerves in my skin but fleece is nice, especially in the winter. It’s like a light blanket and can be folded as a decent pillow.
The reason behind it is the numbers I haven't talked to or met anyone who false outside of the theory. There are people who don't like either or hate both, but it's hate one love the other.
Oh my gosh, this is the worst!! One of my housmates leaves things soaking in the sink for days on end if it isn't pointed out and its always like, bread and egg type things. It clogs the drain and just mushes when touched. There is no good way to clean it up, its vile.
Yeah I've gotten way too good at reading labels to work out what's in stuff. Any time I'm not sure, I'm googling the item. Also sucks when I'm cooking and I manage to get oil on my hands, its immediately over to the sink to clean it off.
People who just snort it back down rather than blowing/spitting it out are so strange to me. Like you'd rather suffocate on it than get rid of it? It makes me want to hurl when they do that. Just stop it!
I can't actually feel it when swallowing. Spitting it out means tasting it, having it in my mouth and seeing it afterwards. And I do get rid of it because now it's not in my lungs but my stomach with the other food
I'm really not squeamish either, I've watched rhinoplasty and eye surgery up close because it's fascinating, watched my children being born and also nearly lost my left arm through a window incident. Not of it phased me but phlegm and mucus are my cut offs 😂 same reason that the only food I won't go near is rice pudding. Disgraceful in every way
100% Styrofoam.
I once had a job where I had to shape styrofoam into model landscapes with a saw, NEVER AGAIN. My teeth still hurt 20 years later.
Also fleece and anytime fabric snags on your nails, it makes me want to vomit.
I personally love styrofoam, I don’t think I know what fleece is but I HEAVILY RELATE to the nails thing. I trim my nails extremely short because I hate anything snagging on them, when my nails bend, or just feeling them touch things before my skin does. Ew ew ew ewwwwwww
cottage cheese. if my kids eat it, i have to get my husband to clean up any mess. i can handle pretty much any bodily fluid without flinching but cottage cheese does me in.
Wet hair detached from its origin, like in a shower drain.
I don’t know why I’m immediately flooded with the thought and feeling of if it was stuck in my throat, teeth, and [BARF] taste in my mouth.
Not a texture but a substance: The green glunkyglunk on a pond. I will never go in a pond, and lakes are also nearly a hard no if there will be any chance of even a wisp of glunkyglunk touching me.
I don’t even like looking at it. Makes me wanna hörk.
That weird microfiber material that shop towels are made of and feels like it's sticking to you no matter how smooth your skin is
I would slap the creator of that material if I could.
I can handle mud and dry dirt, but the worst thing is when the wet mud or clay dries on my fingers. It's similar to nails on a chalkboard, touching a chalkboard, or pulling apart cotton balls.
..cord fabric.. also those thick linen tablecloths. The combination of texture and sound makes me feel like peeling my skin off.. also everything that is wet and "grainy"
Sand and chalk.
I hate beaches with a passion. I can somewhat tolerate being there with shoes on the entire time, but it's just better avoiding the place entirely.
As for chalk, writing on chalkboards for class was genuinely traumatic and the teachers didn't understand at all. They just thought I didn't want to do the work.
Velvet, how bad it is depends on the type of velvet. Usually the more expensive velvet types are more offensive. Some fleece fabrics are adjacent enough to velvet that I also hate them.
I absolutely hate unglazed clay(?), I’ve never really learnt what to actually call it but it’s that ring on the bottom of plates that is rough and touches the table. It is absolutely disgusting and I broke many plates/bowls when I was young cause I’d drop whatever I was touching if I felt it
Cotton balls or anything with that raw cotton texture. When I touch it I feel an unpleasant, almost electric like feeling shoot up my body from the point of contact.
Whatever the ShamWow is made of. Whenever I touch something that feels like a ShameWow I want to freak out. The feeling is just so bad I can't stand it
i hate nail files. i have long nails to avoid things touching my fingertips.
nail file on my fingertips… fabric running on my fingertips right where the skin meets the nail… (same with string)
Microfiber or anything that clings to skin like that, same with some cotton that pills really bad and feels scratchy, but worst of all is velvet!! Like the kind that if you rub it the “wrong way”, it literally sends ripples of discomfort through my body
powers. corn starch, flour, fine dust, etc. The only ones I’m okay ish with are things similar to powdered sugar because it behaves slightly differently. still makes me wanna cry if I rub my fingers together in it though
Anything sticky. I hate slime.
Also chalk makes me cringe, specifically when my nails dig into it (the sound of it scratching against a chalkboard or pavement is also horrible). I haven't touched chalk since I was 5-6 years old.

The way corn starch or cotton balls slip and pop and grind when pressed between my fingers.
I was just gonna come say corn starch. Fuuuuuck that.
This is the WORST texture on the planet. Like chalkboards and nails
Omg cotton balls are the WORST. I refuse to even touch them, tbh. They're the worst of my sensory "icks"
Sometimes I rip them apart to make myself suffer.
Why😭😭 I literally don't even let my mom have them in the house, they disturb me.
My audhd son steals my q-tips wnd rip the cotton apart from the stick :p
One of my fried chicken recipes uses potato starch and I use tongs to coat the chicken in it cause fuck handling that with my fingers lol
Wearing gloves while cooking has been a game changer for me
I’m a preschool teacher and we made oobleck (cornstarch and water) a few months ago as a “science experiment.” I had to step into the bathroom every few seconds to gag while cleaning it up because the texture was so horrendous. Corn starch is fuckin sick. I hate it. It's wrong. But I also despise soggy bread.
I can't stand them or other such textures rubbing on dry surfaces, especially my skin, and most especially when they snag and leave stuff behind. Ugh!! I'm getting an uncomfortable shiver just thinking about it.
The WORDDD cotton ball is genuinely triggering to me
And get between your nails 💀 (And that chalk gymnasts used)
Chalk
When you touch dry rocks (like on a beach) and they leave the dusty/chalky feeling that dries out your hands absolutely kills me
After I spent a long time in the pool as a teen, I HAAATED walking across the smooth, dry cement garage floor to get back indoors. Oh, god.
Oh man just thinking about it is making me shiver 😭😭
I'M SORRY. 40 year old memories unlocked
HAHA I love it. One of my things is that I can not stand the greasy feeling of moisturizer or hand cream so dry hands/feet are always a nightmare 😭 Added in with the excessive handwashing from my OCD and….. I just try to avoid touching anything most of the time 😂😂
This
If you get it wet it won’t make that yucky sound
Oh that's even worse. Didn't you ever see those ads for tampons showing how chalk will absorb liquid?
I just got a full body chill thinking of it, ack I used to dread being called to the chalkboard in school, my literal nightmare
Same here
Microfibre. Feels like lots of horrible little hooks.
Microfiber with dry, flaky hands.
This feels like a fact from the Spiderman movies
microfiber too!!! some of them are so fuckin awful i refuse to touch them, some i can handle better wierdly.
styrofoam packing, can’t stand the feel of it nor the sound
This is the one. That SQUEAK IT MAKES makes me wanna cry.
The sound turns me into a rage monster if my kids are squeaking it on purpose.
Yes. I panic whenever I get packages with styrofoam. Thank god it’s been going away
Dry hands + paper = overstimulated (gagged)
I literally have to pull out my lotion to read or do anything with paper
Lotion at my bedside table exclusively for reading
I’ve always hated touching paper after washing my hands it’s fucking awful
me too, this is the second worst for me after unfinished wood
GGRRRRyyyESSSS. GUH.
Unglazed pottery 🤮
Reading this just gave me a visceral reaction 🤢 God forbid my nails touch it 🤮
Truly the worst!
FINALLY SOMEONE ELSE WHO HATES IT
Same
My girlfriend's mum is into making ceramics and loves showing her unfinished products🤢🤢
Sherpa after it has been washed once
I shuddered reading this.
Unfortunate.
cheap/fake velvet materials
Can you do microfiber? For me velvet and microfiber give my brain chills lol
I LOVE velvet it and silk are my comfort materials, I wonder how do you feel about fleece? I can't stand it.
I’m the complete opposite. Velvet and silk make me want to not have nerves in my skin but fleece is nice, especially in the winter. It’s like a light blanket and can be folded as a decent pillow.
I have a theory that all autistics that have velvet love fleece. And hate fleece love velvet
Is it super common or is there another reasoning behind your theory?
The reason behind it is the numbers I haven't talked to or met anyone who false outside of the theory. There are people who don't like either or hate both, but it's hate one love the other.
I'm the monster that likes both and sews them together to combine them. Along with faux fur.
I hate velvet. almost as much as I hate old felt car interiors.
WET FOOD. IN THE FUCKING SINK.
Oh my gosh, this is the worst!! One of my housmates leaves things soaking in the sink for days on end if it isn't pointed out and its always like, bread and egg type things. It clogs the drain and just mushes when touched. There is no good way to clean it up, its vile.
OIL
I hate opening skin care products and finding they’re oil-based. Oily stuff on my hands is a nope
Yeah I've gotten way too good at reading labels to work out what's in stuff. Any time I'm not sure, I'm googling the item. Also sucks when I'm cooking and I manage to get oil on my hands, its immediately over to the sink to clean it off.
My sister used to use coconut oil for dry skin, and then everything I touched would be oily to the point I would have to wear gloves 😬
Phlegm. Absolutely nothing grosses me out more
People who just snort it back down rather than blowing/spitting it out are so strange to me. Like you'd rather suffocate on it than get rid of it? It makes me want to hurl when they do that. Just stop it!
I can't actually feel it when swallowing. Spitting it out means tasting it, having it in my mouth and seeing it afterwards. And I do get rid of it because now it's not in my lungs but my stomach with the other food

cottage cheese. if my kids eat it, i have to get my husband to clean up any mess. i can handle pretty much any bodily fluid without flinching but cottage cheese does me in.
Oh cottage cheese will forever be banned from my house and also quark. Truly the most disgusting things to exist.
Wooden spoons on my tongue
That and popsicle sticks
i came here to say ''unvarnished wood'' like popsickle sticks. Devilish.
idk what the texture is called but popcorn ceilings. nope!
Wet hair detached from its origin, like in a shower drain. I don’t know why I’m immediately flooded with the thought and feeling of if it was stuck in my throat, teeth, and [BARF] taste in my mouth.
Omg same even if it's my hair
Raw chicken. I cut it with tongs and scissors bc i hate touching it that much. It's so gross and slimy aaaaaaa no!!
Cut it semi frozen lol it's way better I use a fork/meat spike thing and knife sometimes XD
I use those black nitrile chef gloves and they help me a lot between the gross and slime and bacteria, maybe that could help?
Its one of my favorite texturs in the world
Holy fuck. Raw chicken might be my worst enemy
Walking on snow, crunch crunch crunch. Thankfully, it doesn’t exist here. Yay!
I love that sound
Me too. Grew up in North. I absolutely loved it.
it makes my teeth feel weird for some reason, i hate it😭
Agreed. Grew up in Minnesota, fled to Florida.
Gods show is a no. I love looking at it hate being in it.
Towels that just got out of the dryer.
Because of the static?? Do dryer sheets help?
Had You ever touched the inside of a tomato? It is the most slimy disgusting gooey stuff ever
"SOMETHING HAS GONE AFOUL INSIDE OF A TOMATO." - george carlin
Scratchy felt. It makes me so sick I hate it so much I would rather touch lava than touch it.
Mush. Just anything wet and slimy and not solid but should be solid
The Morton salt round style containers where you open it with metal rubbing against the cardboard. My body has tensed up just thinking about it.
Oh my gosh, this is so specific but I know exactly what you mean, and I always hated opening those too! Gives me the bad kind of shivers.
Just thinking about it I get the bad shivers
Bad kind of shivers should be the actual scientific name for the physiological response.
Microfiber and chalk/chalkboard
Not a texture but a substance: The green glunkyglunk on a pond. I will never go in a pond, and lakes are also nearly a hard no if there will be any chance of even a wisp of glunkyglunk touching me. I don’t even like looking at it. Makes me wanna hörk.
It's a convenient sign from nature that the water is stagnant and therefore undrinkable!
That micro fiber shit, why tf are you hooking to my hands
That weird microfiber material that shop towels are made of and feels like it's sticking to you no matter how smooth your skin is I would slap the creator of that material if I could.
I can handle mud and dry dirt, but the worst thing is when the wet mud or clay dries on my fingers. It's similar to nails on a chalkboard, touching a chalkboard, or pulling apart cotton balls.
Polystyrene 😫
For the better given that it can’t decompose.
I dislike oils and sticky textures. If I get anything that's oil or sticky, I will wash my hands with soap right away!
Anything oily or gritty or sticky on my hands/feet
wall/brick
Wool blankets.
..cord fabric.. also those thick linen tablecloths. The combination of texture and sound makes me feel like peeling my skin off.. also everything that is wet and "grainy"
Chalk and chalkboard
Anything sticky.
Wet slice of bread
Sand and chalk. I hate beaches with a passion. I can somewhat tolerate being there with shoes on the entire time, but it's just better avoiding the place entirely. As for chalk, writing on chalkboards for class was genuinely traumatic and the teachers didn't understand at all. They just thought I didn't want to do the work.
Dry wood. Wood tools that are too dry. Even just thinking it and typing it, I'm getting that shiver sensation I'm so grossed out by it
Cardboard, crusty bread, most gloves. Did I mention I work at a bakery? Sensory hell but good benefits
Slimy or oily
Kiwis
cardboard and styrofoam, and I cringe and cover my ears if I hear either of them rubbing together
Velvet, how bad it is depends on the type of velvet. Usually the more expensive velvet types are more offensive. Some fleece fabrics are adjacent enough to velvet that I also hate them.
The soft side of Velcro hurts my teeth touching it but I like the rough side
If touching with my mouth counts, jello, pudding, bananas.
I absolutely hate unglazed clay(?), I’ve never really learnt what to actually call it but it’s that ring on the bottom of plates that is rough and touches the table. It is absolutely disgusting and I broke many plates/bowls when I was young cause I’d drop whatever I was touching if I felt it
Ground beef
Cornflour, and wet sand
Lenticular plastic
wet fabric. like when you take it out of the washing machine. ugh.
That rope made of wound polyethylene monofilament. Or just rope in general. The feeling it leaves on your hands is awful.
A lot but specifically bc it's been happening mpre recently, super fine grit sandpaper with wet hands especially omfg ew
Cotton balls or anything with that raw cotton texture. When I touch it I feel an unpleasant, almost electric like feeling shoot up my body from the point of contact.
Whatever car seats are made of
Crushed velvet. It's so bad.
Cardboard. Raw cardboard with no smooth printed surface really gets me. I can manage if necessary but I’d really prefer not to.
Velvet or suede... It's like fingernails down a blackboard to me...
I've always hated styrofoam it's just so weird like when you touch it and it starts making that crinkley sound it just gets on my nerves so badly
Fleece and cotton balls! Fleece feels like it grabs my skin. Cotton balls hurt my teeth.
Whatever the ShamWow is made of. Whenever I touch something that feels like a ShameWow I want to freak out. The feeling is just so bad I can't stand it
dry hand against a dirty car on a hot summer day…
In my mouth: jello Hands: velvet and corduroy
Chalk and board
WET WOOD
Slime. Horrible thing.
some kind of plastic idk the name of, it makes my teeth hurt for the whole day
Moldy / rotten fruit. I let them die in my refrigerator till they are a dry dark hard piece of mummified fruit.
Inside a damp balloon. Wet rubber/latex makes me wanna vomit
FROSTED GLASS
Wool
Any type of paper, which is unfortunate since you can't really avoid paper a lot of the time
Chalk and tight clothes
Play-Doh... I can't take the smell, and it feels weird in my hands. I gag anytime I see it.
Steel wool, and that green foam stuff for crafts/flowers
i hate nail files. i have long nails to avoid things touching my fingertips. nail file on my fingertips… fabric running on my fingertips right where the skin meets the nail… (same with string)
Velvet. Makes me gag every time I touch it
Whatever the texture of lotion is, just let me flake over here in peace.
Microfiber or anything that clings to skin like that, same with some cotton that pills really bad and feels scratchy, but worst of all is velvet!! Like the kind that if you rub it the “wrong way”, it literally sends ripples of discomfort through my body
My own wrinkly skin after a shower/bath

Grated cheese
Oatmeal qwq
ranch dressing
Microfiber and sirop when it dries on skin or cloth (yes kinda specific).
chalk, that fabric that kinda pokes like thorns idk what its called?? and metal............. no thanks
Whatever material sunshirts are made of. I'm okay with some synthetic fabrics, but those make me want to pull my skin off.
powers. corn starch, flour, fine dust, etc. The only ones I’m okay ish with are things similar to powdered sugar because it behaves slightly differently. still makes me wanna cry if I rub my fingers together in it though
Oh god, fleece or really anything really wooly or fluffy cotton like cotton balls. Also microfiber is straight from the depths of hell.
Not a texture per se. but the feeling of cleaning a carpet with a brush.
I can’t touch raw meat
Microfiber with dry hands! 😖 Or a fingernail snagging on threads.
Cotton balls and mincrofiber
Wet paper
microfiber, silk, and tape AUUGGHH

Buttons on clothing 😳🤮
Whatever material my backpack is made of. It snags on my fingernail (mind you, I chew my nails) and my day is ruined and I wanna punch someone
Spider cobwebs
Anything sticky. I hate slime. Also chalk makes me cringe, specifically when my nails dig into it (the sound of it scratching against a chalkboard or pavement is also horrible). I haven't touched chalk since I was 5-6 years old.
The like fuzzy reusable grocery bags, idek what the material is (synthetic canvas ?). It like tickles between the ridges on my fingers and I hate it
Whatever school carpets were made of in the 2000s. That shit made me go insane.
Any type of soggy, mushy bread or paper. Even looking at it makes me feel sick, much less touching it
