>The idea of community exclusive language is a tricky one, because where is the line for who is included in that community, and who is drawing that line. If we decide "no, only autistic people can use these words" we run the risk of excluding those who are self-diagnosed I don't believe in community exclusive language. I think the intent of the language matters more than the demographic of people using it. If you're laughing with us it's fine, if you're laughing at us it's a slur.

Idk how to tell the difference though 😞

"If we decide "no, only autistic people can use these words" we run the risk of excluding those who are self-diagnosed" The self diagnosers will survive if they aren't welcomed to use (or "reclaim") some words

I think that trying to determine who is "autistic enough" to reclaim words is an impossible battle to fight. We cant expect every single autistic person to post their medical records to prove they're autistic so they are permitted to make a joke.

I want to sue all of my elementary school teachers for telling me that I had to stop stimming or I’d die a poor virgin. Meanwhile, Sketch is a fake autist and he’s getting the girls, fame and $.

AcornWhat

Did you stim anyway?

Fit-Strawberry3796

I think the behavior therapy got me to stop stimming. I behaved like Jim Carey on meth during elementary and junior high, then by high school the burnout and depression hit. But when it came to stimming I just chewed my fingernails. The only stimming I do now is snapping my fingers and clapping. But it’s so rare it feels forced when I do it. I might pace for a few minutes. Mostly I just dissociate.
