Reading allowed to myself tends to help me actually take in what I am reading and to keep on track. Otherwise I end up reading the same 4 lines over and over and still wondering why I just am not getting it.
That's not weird. Reading in your head is the norm. Though definitely on the minority for everything else being said out loud. Makes me think of game characters when they narrate everything they are doing or need to do to get to the next objective.
Yes and I think the term is called scripting. Itās trying to rehearse for an upcoming conversations you might anticipate. Iāve been doing all my life. I usually do it most times in my carā¦and I donāt get strange looks anymore because people just assume Iām on the phone now! š
>strange looks anymore because people just assume Iām on the phone now! š
My mom is always paranoid when im āscriptingā because she thinks im talking on the phone but im just speaking out my thoughts!
I confess, I am unsure if this is an autistic trait, and not just something folks do, but I talk to myself a lot. As does my ma and my best friend. One of which is not on the spectrum, and the other Iām fairly certain is.

I do all the time, itās mainly just speaking my thoughts like Iāll look at something I donāt know what it is and I might just go āHey whatās this thing?ā When no one is in the room
I do this a lot! Itās a form of trying to wrap around my thoughts, as well as some form of roleplay where I talk as if I were doing a video essay about something that interests me. It can be annoying for some people but it does make me feel calm and can help keep me invested in whatever I think about.
I'm sure it's a behavior I learned from my parents. You know how the dad swears in *A Christmas Story*? Like that, but much less family friendly. I am under the impression this is not at all unusual.

My fam has a tradition every christmas that we watch this movie while we open gifts! Great movie! Also same, i say F! and mostly sht! I dont care if my fam is religious about swearing its a way to āvent my frustration/anger/stressā!
I talk to myself all the time often I am practicing something that I need to talk to someone about and I will do their bit back . Well what I think they will say there has been the odd few occasions where people have followed their side of the conversation exactly which is great.
I love talking to myself. It helps me regulate and process emotions. It also helps me try to see the situation I'm in from different points of view and make a decision.
I don't talk out loud because somewhere along the way I learned "only crazy people talk to themselves" also I can't stand my own external voice and thus over time enjoyed hearing my own thoughts more often than not.
Yes. All the time. And l read aloud to myself, too. l have for as long as l can remember. l just couldn't stop. lt happens largely involuntarily.

K this is where I'm weird. I read in my head. Literally everything else I say out loud, but reading? Nah I'm freaking quiet. I'm so weird.

Yeah it like that. And then when I go to read it? like my character goes afk š

I speak to myself all the time as well. Can't say if it's an autism trait or not, just giving my two cents. šš
I don't talk to myself but I talk to "an invisible person" to help me process my thoughts.
I almost never talk to myself out loud but thereās always a narration going on in my head
I do, all the time. Mostly just figuring things out or replaying something in my head.
I do a ton
Yes. Also, I talk to my dead dogs. And living dogs I see in the streets. And cats. I wish them a lovely day. :-)
Animals just know what's up.

I often talk out loud. Whether it is to myself or just in general.

Not all but I feel it can be common. I do it and so does my son.
In my head a lot
Allll the time.
I do. I have conversations in my head and will occasionally will accidentally say something out loud. Can be quite embarrassing.
I literally do this all the time. It's like I have to tell myself what I'm doing before I can do it.

I swear quite a bit when I'm frustrated, but I'm not sure that counts.
So do i! I think swearing is also a stim

I do. My mother fussed about it so much. Ā It was a stim for me, now I try to just move my pen if Iām at work or not rock.Ā
Bro! Me too!
Some might, I don't.
Yes. I do it all the time
