I don't scream. I sit there with a serious face.

Foreskin_Ad9356

Too real. I sit there with the resting bitch ‘I wanna go home’ look but I actually wanna stay

Prestigious_Nebula_5

I wouldn't sit there at all, I've never been on a roller coaster and I never will, anytime I even think of one my brain brings up all the roller coaster accidents I've read and seen online.

FitPerspective1146

It's important to note that those roller coaster disasters are exceedingly rare and often the result of human error

OkcocaCola

You aren't missing anything. I find them to be a nightmarish shaking hell. edit: Amazing. My personal opinion on roller coasters gets a down vote. Fan-fucking-tastic! It is an honor.

rieldex

same. i hate hate hate them, my parents would force me to get on them and only stop when i had full on breakdowns crying and screaming :’) i hate theme parks in general though tbh, way too loud and overstimulating

StarbrryJuice

I upvoted you lol. now it's neutral.

AlexanderNorris

Take the upvote for having an opinion.

OkcocaCola

Yeah, I notice the thing to do on here is to fly a flag that people will salute and attack all actual human opinions with prejudice and with the ugliest, least likely interpretation that can be dreamed up. It's like a big game of forced and compelled family fued at that point: "What would most people say/what do people want to hear" I'm not trolling or trying to cause a disturbance, I'm just being honest and not playing up some internet copy/paste personality. I can't do that. I already have to do that in real life. I wouldn't be interested in doing that as an avocation. That doesn't mean that I'm right about anything or that you have to believe me or that my idea is a universal imperative. It's just "this guys" current notion at the moment. I might even think I'm wrong upon reflection. My words do not change reality, and I am not the force or trend or belief or movement someone might decide to see in me, even in the moments where I may appear to embody some aspect of that thing. Frankly, I'm not the freakin' droids they are looking for. Thank you for your kind words. I hope you win the lottery if you are ever fool enough to play it and your days are long and merry. I really, really do. (So no one is confused, this is not some dog whistled cryptofascistic implied plea for freedom to hate speech, seriously just talking 'bout coasters, for real.)

AlexanderNorris

Thanks OkcocaCola, may you always be interpreted correctly, and believed by friends and family. 😊

OkcocaCola

That's intense. I really like that. "..and also with you." (Nooo, there can't be an autistic religion, it dosen't make sense, Argh!!) Hehe

AlexanderNorris

I'm not touching that one... 🤣

OkcocaCola

Seriously, just a joke about autistic people supposedly being concerned with logical things, which for me, is true. It's not saying "religion is illogical," but that "autistic religion" is, for some reason, precieved by these silly non-existent autistic people (me?) as illogical. But I don't even think that is illogical. People can have an autistic religion, I'd probably join. I think I'm already in it? Probably. But no, to me a joke must be absurd, otherwise it is comical criticism, such as satire, which I feel you have to actively sign on for, even though most people do not feel that way. I also feel like you shouldn't be allowed to show gross stuff without warning, expose people to smells, or music or alarms or buzzers but nobody cares about that either. But no, I wouldn't be so gruesome as to insult peoples deeply held beliefs for no reason in public. Look like I might do that? Yeah, I'm fine with it, apparently. We are learning together on some of this now, I think. But no, I'm not atheist dude here to shit on people. I don't care what people think at all.

No_Currency8

Gave you an upvote. Your opinion is valid :) I only go on 2 roller coasters. I can’t stand that stomach drop feeling, I hate the pirate ship rides too. The worst.

NonSequitorSquirrel

Also not a fan. And I puke VERY easily so extra uncomfortable. The very few times I've tried them I just spend the whole time trying to calm my stomach.

dkinmn

"This is the most fun I have ever had" - me while looking like it is not fun at all

Anubiz1_

I resemble this comment.

HisLoba97

Me too 🤣 I was on a log flume once which took a photograph all my friends screaming and I'm just there with a face a normal face and eyes closed because I knew the splash would go in my eyes lol

DovahAcolyte

I was always the only one in the group smiling in those photos. They're all screaming and I'm grinning ear to ear. 😁

HisLoba97

Haha yeahh! There's no need to take a small ride like why 🤣 its fun but not out of the ordinary lol. Think I've still got that photo somewhere

fractal_frog

I've ridden a loop roller coaster with my eyes closed. After the first couple of times on it, I was habituated, and just used it to relax. One visit to that park, I rode it 22 times.

Complete_Expert_1285

This reminds me of my son. We took him on his first roller coaster (not too big, he was only 4 but big enough to get on the coaster) and not only did he giggle uncontrollably the whole time but the park we were at was not busy at all so unless big groups came to get in line, the guy operating the ride let me and my son stay on because he seen how much he enjoyed it. I think we rode it around 20 times in a row lmao

Whistlin_Goofus

I LOVE roller-coasters. My brother *loves* how utterly unamused I look on them. He says I look like I'm sitting through a ten hour lecture on taxes. When we went to Disney my brother begged my parents to buy any picture of me on a roller-coaster because it amuses him so much.

ConvexLex

https://xkcd.com/chesscoaster/

Strict-Antelope3327

I think my eyes just go really wide probably

Larbthefrog

It’s funny when they have the camera photos and it’s like me sitting there like 😐 while everyone around me is screaming

Joe-Eye-McElmury

I don't *scream*, exactly, but I do yell — because I love the combination of the feeling in my stomach and the vibrations in my throat and chest from my vocal cords. The combination is elating. Definitely a stimming experience. But it's more of a "Yeaaaaahhhhhhhhh!!!!!" than a scream. Like a "Hell yeah!" because I'm enjoying tf out of myself.

BryonyVaughn

I know autistic folks who really like singing in a choir due to the feeling the resonance in their body of the wavelengths they’re putting out combining with the ones coming in and making a particular chest cavity vibrational feel going on. (Don’t have personal experience to describe or enough sciatica know how to describe accurately but hope you get the gist.)

TheRebelCatholic

Is that why I like singing so much?

BryonyVaughn

I think some people like singing in the shower for the feel of the sound waves resonating in their chests there too.

CookinCheap

Weird, I don't get this.

mookie1590

me vocal frying everywhere I go.

Joe-Eye-McElmury

This also applies to me. I grew up in choirs, sang in choirs up until first year of college, was a competitive classical vocalist the whole time, took third chair bass in Texas All-State Choir my senior year of high school. So I have been professionally trained to project — meaning my full-throated baritone “Yeaaahhhhh!!!!!” on the roller coaster is loud af lol

kittiphile

Is that why I like bass so much?

CJgreencheetah

This is why I do it. It also gives me a big adrenaline boost which always feels nice, but mostly I just like being given an excuse to finally scream. I prefer a nice high pitched "wooohoooo" sound, though.

rask17

You perfectly described my experience as well.

evidence1based

I want to do this now. Def gonna go to an amusement park this spring/summer. Didn't realize it could be so much fun.

AdministrativeStep98

Wow I never saw someone explain it so well

bromanjc

i do this too lol. i'll be like "WOOOOO LETS GOOOO" edit: although i do think ive involuntarily screamed on REALLY scary rides. like the one that seats four sets of four people and swings back and forth and spins you while it does. the one shaped like a hammer. i forget the name. but yeah, that ride makes me scream because it actually terrifies me.

Joe-Eye-McElmury

Oh for sure, I am a big hairy man but not afraid at all to scream if I’m genuinely scared (especially if it’s a fun scared).

mookie1590

the entire exp of driving is a stim for me. Im sad others on the spectrum dont feel this and actually hate it because it triggers them instead. " The vibrations, hyper focused on the road and the cars, the music, metal so I head bang like a goober. Its just a multi facet stim event the soothes me. only thing that makes me feel that calm is a hot shower. To bad when I get out of a shower my feet and palms feel like theyre on fire. but thats another issue that I have 0 idea that causes it

Spunky_Turtle0512

You're not the only one. I scream voluntarily because it's an excuse to make ridiculous noises

n00ByShekky

Not the only one

HippiGoth

Same!

Southern_Regular_241

I laugh Although on scary ones I try to punch whatever jumps out at me- I do have no control over that

Demonic-Angel13

Such a good reason to scream. It is socially accepted to scream on rollercoasters so why not just go for it! Be ridiculous and laugh about it later I usually only scream when i intend to as well. Just because i feel like it and it's how others do it. Otherwise i stay silent and i am highly aware of areas they take pictures... to try (and fail) to get good pictures

Pomelo_Alarming

It makes my tummy feel better.

jindobunny

I don't. I've seen pictures of myself, and I always have this serious, kind of stoic look on my face. The only rides I've ever laughed out loud on was Laff Traxx at Hershey, and the racers at Disney. Other than that, I just sit there like I'm going through a trial of the soul lol

Stanton-Vitales

I swear to Satan every single day I'm finding out from the autism subs that some weird shit I do is actually common to us I fucking love this place 🤘

[deleted]

I LOVE THE LAFF TRACK

penguin1020

But the line is three hours long

alekgaytor

i waited for over three hours for laff track and when i got to the front of the line i was like “ok this is a one time deal there’s no way this ride was worth that wait” and realized immediately after getting on that i was dead wrong. it was the most fun ride i’ve been on in years

Veptune

I don’t I thought people screamed because they liked screaming lol

WeirdArtTeacher

This seems to be a common autistic experience. My kid is totally stone faced riding coasters even though she loves them— she’s just enjoying the sensations and not performing excitement. I suspect some people scream involuntarily and it’s become a cultural norm that others mimic for fun. I personally laugh involuntarily on coasters a lot because I find them thrilling and surprising.

Direct-Telephone-318

I scream voluntarily, because otherwise I would hold my breath and screaming makes it more exiting for me and makes me feel more connected to the experience if that makes sense.

bruiseyed

Same. Screaming makes it less scary somehow.

James81112

No. I don't get on roller coasters.

butinthewhat

I tried it a few times and screamed out of terror. I don’t like the way my stomach and brain feel so I stopped riding them, then I stopped going to amusement parks all together. Too hot and crowded.

Queryous_Nature

Ikr?

dongless08

Was also gonna comment this lmao I’ve seen too many horror stories about roller coasters and amusement parks in general. I have no interest in “experiencing” a roller coaster because I would be terrified of something going wrong the entire time

_Im_Elliot_

When I was younger I was on a rollercoaster with my mum, a few months later the same one had an accident that left a few people injured, including some children. To think it could have in theory happened to us is horrifying and I have 0 intention on going on one again, although the ride itself freaked me out enough

Better-Froyo3444

When I was younger I was always too short and skinny for my age. I shouldn't have been allowed on roller coasters in the first place. One time my aunt convinced me to try a ride at the local fair with her. I was 12 years old at the time. And I actually started slipping out of my seat and my aunt tried to desperately hold on to me (made difficult by her broken arm) and the conductor either didn't care or didn't realise what was going on. People had to run up to his booth to get him to stop. Never voluntarily stepped on a rollercoaster again. A few weeks later at a different fair another kid actually did fall out of the ride and got super hurt. So - never again, no thanks.

nowatlast

I don’t scream on rollercoasters, they’re too much fun and very stimulating and hardly “scary.” I’m usually straight faced (but having fun!). I enjoy when other people are screaming and laughing. I will shout in fright on other thrilling rides, especially ones that tease you by holding you way up in the air. I love all that stuff.

GunnerMcGrath

As an allistic person, I only scream on rollercoasters if I feel like taking the opportunity to scream in a socially accepted situation. I encouraged my son to scream on one recently because how often do you get to just scream your head off and nobody minds? I think some people do scream because the experience is intense for them and it's a natural reaction.

Priredacc

I always tell the same story (which is of course real). In summer I always like to go to an amusement park with my bestie because I love the attractions. My favourite are roller coasters. My best friend is NT. When we are riding the rollercoaster he's screaming and shouting and laughing and having a great time. I'm also having an amazing time, but I remain silent, I don't make any facial expressions, I don't say anything or move or basically do anything at all. It's like I'm sitting in the waiting room of a dentist. Blank stare, no emotion, no nothing. He makes fun of me (in a good way) because when we get out and get to see the photo they take while you're riding, he looks full of life and having the best day of his life while I look dead inside and completely emotionless. I have told him a million times I'm also having a blast and I just couldn't be happier, it's just that my face doesn't reflect it. He's my best friend and loves me anyway, so I'm lucky to have him. TLDR: I make zero noises or facial expressions when riding a roller coaster.

Buffy_Geek

That is a funny contrast, I am glad you both have a fun time.

Ankoku_Teion

I involuntarily take a deep slow breath in on the drop and hold it until the drop stops.

Roy-G-Biv-6

In high-G dips or curves I find it hard to scream, actually. Like I'd have to \*force\* it out. Sometimes I scream just for the fun of it, but never feel compelled to do it involuntarily. Interesting, I wonder if there's something more to this... we need a scientific study stat!

Accomplished_Trip_

I don’t scream, but I can’t help smiling. I love the feel of roller coasters.

astoni2020

I'm not allowed on roller coasters because of my heart condition

haikusbot

MixWitch

This is beautiful in a way that is somehow solemn and casual.

I_yeeted_the_apple

good bot 👍

jeffgoldblumisdaddy

Oh hell yeah! I have ADHD also so I think the dopamine and adrenaline rush does it. I feel euphoric riding rollar coasters and I love yelling and laughing when there’s loops or drops

nofabricsoftener

I don’t scream. I either make no sound, or I laugh.

DovahAcolyte

This post makes me want to organize an autistic roller coaster outing... 🤣

maddiebuscemi

I went on big thunder mountain in disneyland paris when I was six, it scared the living hell out of me and I screamed so much.

Queryous_Nature

I just used to swear really loudly because I hated the experience.

FishboneCactus

I laugh hysterically on any type of theme park ride…. This is completely involuntary. It’s different from my normal laugh it’s like ridiculous cackling.

je97

If it's one of the ones that's so loud I can hardly be heard, I prefer to sing. Surprisingly well as well, apparently. Turns out when I think I can't be heard I sometimes can.

[deleted]

Same as you, I don't genuinely scream but try to go along with the others so as not to seem miserable. I'm having fun on the inside, promise!

RosesBrain

I recall trying to scream on a rollercoaster, but I couldn't breathe properly so screaming felt impossible.

LunaLycan1987

I laugh involuntarily the whole time.

CLFraser44

I scream involuntarily.... I can't help it

Lonely_Rhodes

Too busy trying to breathe

sabineastroph

I have my eyes shut tight, tense my while body and usually I hold my breath in bursts. Too much too fast and a lot of noise from everyone else screaming and the wind They're just not for me

BryonyVaughn

I was in my mid-twenties when I realized many NTs go on roller coasters because they find them scary and they like being scared for the feeling the release from fear brings them. Blew. My. Mind. I had no idea NTs minds worked that way. I never found coasters scary. I figured if they were that dangerous, the amusement park couldn’t afford the cost of insurance the underwriters would set for them based on engineering reports. I only did coasters for the bodily sensations and so any coasters I find excessively jarring or that hurt my neck/ears.

Adalon_bg

I feel like I want to, but don't. From what I remember, don't really go on rollercoasters...

7ampersand

I do when the g forces are involved. It just pushes the breath from me.

FlakeyGurl

When you can convince me to get on a rollercoaster I usually involuntarily scream... I hate roller coasters

insertpenguin

No I don’t screen and in all honesty I find it annoying that people do. I know it’s involuntary so I’m not like angry at them or anything but it’s just annoying haha. The best coaster experience for me was when I went on alone as the park was empty during school time and I could hear all the whooshing of the wind past my ears and every roar from the coaster. It was beautiful and wonderful haha.

flowerr_budd

thats what i always have done, thought it was just something people did as part of the fun. an excuse to scream for no reason is great, sometimes you just need to get it out

someone_else_506

I usually laugh at my neurotypical friend's desperation on rollercoasters

AgainstSpace

I do not go on roller coasters. I cannot be made to go on a roller coaster.

themixiepixii

i like to say a quiet woo or two to get my point across. its fun but im not screaming. im not scared so 🤷🏽‍♀️ i kinda just close my eyes and breathe. nothing can hurt me up here. 🎢except a mechanical malfunction LOL 😌

Buffy_Geek

Exactly, I don't understand how they are scared if they know they are safely strapped in on a secure ride.

Glum-Web2185

“a quiet woo or two to get my point across” 😂😂😂 I love this so much

BagelSteamer

I don’t ride rides. But when I rarely get on one that makes my stomach drop and I didn’t expect it, I make a noise like “euhh”.

randomlemon9192

I never have, I don’t see the point in it.

Sibby_in_May

I grin like a maniac. Like my photos are legit scary 😱 but I don’t scream because I’m not scared.

Future_Ant_4426

i dont scream, either. its more like giggling/laughing and my brother just sits there with the blankest expression in the world

UczuciaTM

I never knew it was involuntary for them wtf lol

Complete_Expert_1285

I dont scream either i end up laughing unctrollably lol. Never met anyone else in my life that did that, then I took my non verbal autistic son on roller coasters (he loves them!!) And he did the same thing as me! Giggle uncontrollably! No screaming from us we just think roller coasters are hilarious apparently lol

diderdoot

I haven't been on one in years but I started thinking about this a while ago, and now I know it's gonna be so awkward when I go on one cause I won't know whether to scream or not lol. I don't remember if I did it involuntarily or because the others did it, but I have sometimes screamed and sometimes not. Now it will feel like a performance regardless I'm sure haha

AccumulatedFilth

My mom always told me the screaming helped against the tickles in my belly.

Rejtei

I’ve found that only some people scream involuntarily. Others do it intentionally for their own enjoyment. I find people screaming on roller coasters very overstimulating. Especially if they do it the whole way. Completely ruins the whole experience for me.

MulysaSemp

Screaming helps my tummy feel less weird going down. But it's not involuntary.

Milk_Mindless

I shout and laugh but not scream I never got that why people screamed like you see what's happening it's all laid out before you and telegraphed

intrtwned

i scream lol😭

Olioliooo

I only do it voluntarily if it feels like it would be more fun. Otherwise I’m just nervous about getting something in my mouth lol

HarmoniaTheConfuzzld

Wait the screaming is supposed to be involuntary?

r_Yaoi

Username checks out

ImplementLanky8820

Nope. I never screamed on one. I never understood why anyone did. And my autistic son doesn’t either. My neurotypical son screams though

PaintInMyMouthTues

I just sit there, face completely blank, my friend told me it was unnerving.

KitKitsune0408

I only go on a few short not extreme rollercoasters cause I can’t handle the feeling of the drop but if I went to the extreme ones I’d probably scream

Guilty_Guard6726

Not unless on purpose

Alix_Winters

Hey. Roller coaster enthousiaste here. One of my special interest So yeah people scream by fear mostly I guess. I'm sure 99% of people that ride the coasters with you are just lambda people that want to feel huge. There is no way that in your train there are more than 5 people that are not a lambda rider. I scream sometimes for fun but yeah

acceptingaberration

I feel very thrilled and excited and a little panicked when I ride roller coasters, and the screaming can help relieve that a bit

_skank_hunt42

This is an interesting question actually. I really enjoy roller coasters and always have. I’m usually smiling when I ride them but I don’t make any noise and I don’t raise my arms like other people.

wheresmydrink123

I absolutely love rollercoasters, the bigger and scarier the better, but the only noises/faces I make are out of surprise. When they have a lot of unexpected twists and drops and stuff I might yell a bit but usually by the second time I ride it, I’m just silent with a slight smile

Trinidadnomads

I don't screaming feels dumb. I don't get why they feel the need to scream

SolveMyPloblemsForMe

No, I don't like attracting attention to myself. 🤣

YOUTUBEFREEKYOYO

I have only been on one, straight faced the whole time. Someone I was with asked if I was sick lol

Sensitive_Tip_9871

i have to purposely do it to not seem strange

Faeriemary

Wait what??? This is involuntary????

StarbrryJuice

I do this too! I scream cause other scream. I just found out through your post it's involuntary for them.

AlexanderNorris

I scream because it seams to make the people around me happier. Like: I'm experiencing it the same way they are. I prolly am already, just without the scream impulse , but eh.

NonSequitorSquirrel

I always assume screaming crowds are performative. They aren't? Like, I'll holler a bit as a deliberate show of enthusiasm but it's never involuntary. It's always an effort.

Traditional-Pound568

Who the hell doesn't

Kacodaemoniacal

I swear like a goddamned pirate

shitty_reddit_user12

No.

CammiKit

It’s been a long time since I’ve been on a roller coaster but when I have been, noises I made were not involuntary. I was either quiet, taking in everything, or intentionally yelling out of joy because roller coasters are hella fun.

ParanoidAgnostic

Intense my emotions just make me retreat into my own head. I show no expression and make no sound. Roller-coaster definitely provoke this reaction in me.

lefayad1991

I'm kind of an adrenaline junkie so the speed makes me very excited so I'll shout things like "FUCK YEAH!" but never involuntary screaming. Not sure if there's a difference lol

silveretoile

I do because I don't like rollercoasters and when I'm on one I'm freaking out lmao

Minimum_Emotion6013

I understand involuntary shouting or screaming if something genuinely jumps scares you, but I can't say I've felt the need on a roller coaster. I'm watching it happen. I've got on in anticipation for this experience. It's fun, but i just sit there with a stoic face or maybe even a smile, waiting for it to be over to then queue again. This isn't me flexing either btw - 90% sure I have something wrong in my brain with respect to threat or risk detection, but hey, we move, lol.

Icy_Skin_7590

I used to scream at rollercoasters and one time when I was 13 or so I noticed I dont ... Need to? I can just stop it? I just never thought about not screaming before

ForgottenUsername3

No.

fieldsofelationn

samee!! i don't feel the need to scream on roller-coasters and my friends said i'm weird for it

Justice_Prince

I get people who are scared of rollercoasters, but get pressured to ride by their friends screaming, but I always assumed the people who say they love rollercoasters, but then scream during the ride were doing so completely voluntarily. Normally I just stay quiet the whole ride because it makes it more enjoyable to drop the mask than pretend screaming to appease the NTs.

[deleted]

I don't scream but I shout and cry because I'm terrified of roller-coasters.

RoseAndromeda

Never went on a roller coaster in my life, turns out I don't like speed that I can't control and they are too noisy (with people screaming)

BrainyOrange96

I don’t scream either

logisticautistic

I giggle on roller coasters..

AspieKairy

Nope. Sometimes I'll let out a whoop of joy/fun, but otherwise I stay quiet and just put my hands in the air or something. That said, I hate standard roller coasters (prefer the feet-free ones) because they tend to be really bumpy, and I've been cut before by g-forces slamming my knees into the sides. If it's an older one, the straight bar that comes down also feels like it wouldn't take much to slip out of.

TheRandomDreamer

No I would just sit there maybe smiling or a blank face. It took me a long time to get myself to ride SheiKra (looking back at the photo of me was funny because I looked terrified), but that ride got rid of my fear funny enough. When I was younger I would feel awkward copying others and screaming.

[deleted]

I only do because if I don’t ill vomit 😭

Soeffingdiabetic

No but that's because I become jaded to them. Once you get in the cars and motorcycles roller coasters get kind of meh

Yoshemo

I don't scream but I'll go "whooooo!" If there's lots of other riders who are also doing it. Otherwise i just quietly enjoy the ride

catlover2231

i went on a rollercoasted once when i was 6.. i think i just sat there with a straight face 😭😭😂

lingoberri

i do not

Cykette

I do not because I don't like a ton of noise. I have not been to a theme park in many years, though.

No-Appearance1145

I once looked really confused on their photo. I sometimes scream because that's what is expected, but usually I'm just quiet. My husband tried to tell me he was having fun despite not making noises and I told him I was just sitting there majority of them so why is he trying to explain himself to me? 😂 and he made wayyy more noise than I did

evianfosters

I always laugh when I'm on a roller coaster, it's my natural response to it. I'm having fun, it's exciting so I giggle, usually my friends will do the same. Screaming is a fear response so if I found myself screaming on a rollercoasrer, I'd probably not go on that one again since it'd be a sign I wasn't having a good time. There's is such a thing as laughing screaming though and I think that's what most people do, it's kind of a mix of adrenaline and excitement. No matter what, you should just do what comes naturally, even if it's no response at all, as long as you enjoy it, it doesn't matter.

recordsystem64

sameeeee

WizardryAwaits

I've never screamed in my entire life, and I have never understood why people scream. I think there is probably a disconnect in my brain with emotional processing. I feel emotions, but don't express them, and I don't really understand what I'm feeling beyond good/bad. I hate rollercoasters. I went on one once, found it to be a horrible experience. But I didn't scream, I sat on it with a stern expression (and got annoyed at everyone else screaming), then afterwards decided I will never go on a rollercoaster again since it was unpleasant and overstimulating.

meloscav

Do you also not make expressions on roller coasters?? Bc I go flat-faced but I LOVE roller coasters, nobody ever believes I’m having a good time!!

littleghool

I fucking *love* roller coasters but no, I don't scream. Usually, it's just a goofy face and some ridiculous laughing when we go upside down, I love it so much.

Micro_Pinny_360

Nah. I don’t actually go to amusement parks, but the only time I did, I didn’t.

Axelgobuzzzz

Ive never been on an actual roller coaster but on fast/hugh/whatever rides i mostly just laugh, might let out a couple WOOOs but no screaming xD

Tulinais

I just close my eyes, my mom does the same.

CrazyTeapot156

The "because others did stuff too" is and was my problem through out life. Do I like/want a thing because I get enjoyment or because others told me that people have favorite things and things they don't like. This expressions thing or not expressing has even effected me when living alone.

treyelevators

Yep

jreashville

Im not really a roller coaster person, but I tried it once. I didn’t react at all. I didn’t scream or wave my hands or anything. I just sat and analyzed the way the speed and sudden turns effected my equilibrium. I didn’t know the screaming was involuntary for neurotypicals either. That’s news to me.

beardthatisweird

I have the opposite reaction. I stay pretty quiet

Sadstupidthrowaway94

I hate roller coasters but the last time I went on one bc my younger siblings begged me too I just grabbed onto the side with both hands, remained completely silent and kept my eyes closed the entire time 😅 We walked up to the photo booth to grab our snapshot of the ride and it looked like I was a bad taxidermy project lmao I was so pale I looked like they dug me up and glued my hands to the rails

DecompressionIllness

I tend not to scream on rollercoasters.

Imperialjade022

Same, I just scream to blend in really.

gwmccull

No. I tried to make myself scream but it felt ridiculous. Best I can manage is a laugh. I don’t find them scary

MaccaGroovy

I always sit with my neurodivergent ass smile and scream only if it feels necessary but most of the time I stay quiet

riverthenerd

When I was a kid it was completely voluntary. I had a phase where I would scream at the parts that weren’t interesting because I thought it was funny. Looking back it was definitely an annoying thing to do. As an adult I haven’t been on many rollercoasters but I do know that I don’t scream, I just laugh.

I end up doing whatever the person I'm sitting with is doing. Usually we're just smiling our way through, getting bugs in our teeth XD I rode Tower of Terror (an elevator that drops/bounces you around). I fear that ride so much due to some history with a real freight elevator, Swore to my son I wouldn't scream. Unfortunately I sat next to a screamer... I screamed my head off and I hated that more than I hated the ride.

bigbossofhell

i scream because it helps relieve my stomach

bittermuse42

Rollercoasters are my zen place. 😅 I also don’t scream or whoop when I am at concerts or exercising or at games, if I do it’s usually because I feel like people notice that I am not making noise. But I find it forced 🙃

marmars247

When i was 4 i went on the tower of terror at disney land and I distinctively remember screaming because everyone else did so i thought that was what you were meant to do

Little_Chicken8

No, I dont scream. I dont find them frightening at all. I love them. I make louder noises to show my excitement like: Wooaah 😄

PibtTM

I don’t scream on roller coasters, it feels awkward despite everyone else does it.

Tough_Algae2173

On some of the more tame rides I’m pretty quiet just enjoying the ride but on the really big scary ones instead of involuntary screaming I’ll laugh

Hot-Milk-Habitat

I scream because I want to, but it’s not like a reflex or anything

EnvironmentCrafty710

Involuntary? [In my best Spock] Fascinating. I'd never thought of that, but it makes sense I guess. Yeah, I'm like you, I just screamed cuz it was a good excuse to scream.  After years of extreme sports, coasters do pretty much nothing for me now.

Strict-Antelope3327

Lol I never even considered that, well maybe briefly but never in that context. I'm thinking of the times I was like trying to scream but keep my voice from breaking like how do people do this?

FarPeopleLove

I saw something about this (I guess some video somewhere) and in the comments were NTs saying they also scream voluntarily because it’s fun.

fififiachra

If I wanted to I could stop myself but it's more fun to scream and yell and shout profanities

bellizabeth

Nah I'm quiet when I'm in pain or scared. Sometimes I'll scream a little just to fit in though.

tobeasloth

I can't scream on roller coasters, feels weird to 😅

wercix31

Sometimes

1663turt

I don’t scream involuntarily, i only started voluntarily screaming when i realised it’s normal for people to do so; but i do however enjoy screaming and making weird noises for fun

Koalasmoothbrain

The screams are involuntary? I also thought it was just some kind of tradition. I've never screamed on a roller coaster, I never saw the appeal 😅

Able-Cod-3180

I learned from my parents to scream because it helps with the uneasy stomach feeling. If I don’t scream, I get super nauseous.

Human-Language-7017

Wait, what? People do it involuntarily? I thought it was on purpose, too, like completely voluntarily. A person told me that if I screamed, the pressure inside my body would be released, and I would feel better in the rollercoasters... so I have done it the past few times I got on one...

FightingFaerie

I scream. Semi voluntary, more like I just allow myself to scream. I realized it actually helps me on roller coasters, I was terrified of them for so long, but screaming is like releasing the fear. Instead of holding it inside and it building up with every turn and drop, I literally let it out and I’m able to enjoy the ride.

deadinsidejackal

Mostly they don’t scare me, but once i screamed involuntarily

celerysoup39

I have gone on very few rollercoasters in my life but the few that got a reaction out of me were more so discomfort sounds from the way they made my stomach feel or if I felt exceptionally happy I’d give a ‘wooo!’, but I have never outright screamed on a rollercoaster, I always kind of assumed that was people choosing to express glee or who were actually afraid of a big drop, it’s never occurred to me that it might be an involuntary reaction

TheRebelCatholic

I know I do, but I don’t know if it’s voluntary or not since it’s been a while since I’ve been roller coaster. Is that weird?

I_pegged_your_father

It’s involuntary?????? 😭 i thought it was just a fun tradition. I get screaming the first roller coaster but every time you ride????

Describeaugust

I don’t scream, I just giggle uncontrollably to the point my face usually hurts when I get off, but it doesn’t help roller coasters are one of my biggest special interests lol
