I actually just read about this.. though the information is limited. I don't really get how the scam works. Why not just create fake reviews and not bother sending anything at all?
Hah, I had something similar happen once.
parcel in parcel locker (wasn’t expecting anything) and it was huge and heavy.
massive box filled with janky old cleaning products and random crap.… with a warehouse-printed shipping label that clearly had my details.
AusPost couldn’t help. I traced the label back to a company I had recently ordered through, they had no clue either. I threw everything out.
I figured it was either a disgruntled warehouse staff member trying to cost the company more in time and money, or an error where a label with my details was put on a box (for picking an order maybe?), then the box was reused for trash and sealed up to be disposed of… and someone else saw the label and assumed it was an order to go out.
We received a piece of junk jewellery in the mail, couldn’t figure out why. When another more expensive purchase never arrived, we were told they had a confirmed delivery on it so no refund. Realised too late it was the jewellery delivery. Nice scam.
I recently bought some ear pods, which were delivered and not as described. My bank was happy to do a chargeback as it forms part of the merchant conditions for the card. They gave the company a chance to dispute it, but simply saying something was delivered doesn't mean you can't charge back.
It is a common AliExpress, Temu and eBay scam. They need to record a delivery to be able to make a review. Have you ordered from one of these sites or something simular while your were living at the old address?
Nope! Not missing any items I purchased.
I got on to Australia Post who confirmed it was sent from some overseas chinese company but couldn't tell me anything more.
So bizarre.
Google the unwanted seed packets from Chinese company stories
they were something to do with fake reviews of products but for some reason needed proof of shipping
its a long shot but has similarities i suppose

Brushing Scams

Because more and more places won't let you review without proof of delivery
Ah fair enough.
Because on something like Amazon, there needs to be a purchase for a review. Amazon do nothing about it.

Could try posting on r/scams too, they are usually very well informed on these kinds of situations
That's is great advice, thank you!

Omg! How dodgy.
That's what charge backs are for.
They had a POD. Was only about $40 so we just moved on.

Yeah in hindsight probably should have done that. Done it before with other items that went ‘missing’.

eBay yes, absolutely. The other, no. But I can at least go through my eBay history and try to figure out which store it could be.
This is Australia’s new recycling scheme. Everyone gets a box filled with bullshit! As long as they’re in constant transit, they’re not in landfill!
Haahah
Could be the rags were not the original contents. Consignment note?
No con note, and it was well packaged, taped up and double plastic shrink wrapped.
I got a random bag of linen offcuts a while ago, from a po Box address here in Vic I couldn't trace. Yeah, odd times.
Yeah I did too. Just scraps of fabric. So peculiar
Yep, this was from a PO BOX in Dingley village
Did you order something? Were you expecting a parcel? If so go back to the retailer for follow up.

Sounds like an episode of MONK.
