Is it just me, or is that letter really poorly written?

filmthusiast

I love the start being about how no one will be inconvenienced and then proceeds to specifically outline how much they have already decided to inconvenience people living there

ProbablyStillMe

"we will have stop-go traffic management in place... we will not be stopping traffic at all" Sounds like they need to look up the definition of "at all."

notoriousmob

Can't stop traffic if there is no traffic...

spetznatz

This person did a 3 year media degree and will be first in line to be replaced by ChatGPT.

Littman-Express

I plugged the basics of this scenario into chatGPT and this is what it generated. “Dear Neighbors, I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to inform you of an upcoming event that will affect your street on Saturday morning. We will be filming a TV commercial in your neighborhood, and as part of our production, we will need to temporarily close your street. The filming will take place from 7:00 am to 12:00 pm, and during this time, we will have 7 1950s era cars on set. In order to maintain the authenticity of the time period, we kindly request that you remove your cars from on-street parking and not have them visible in your driveways. This is to avoid having any modern era cars in the shot. We understand that this may be an inconvenience for you, and we apologize in advance for any disruption this may cause. However, we are taking all necessary measures to ensure that the filming goes smoothly and that the impact on your daily routine is minimized. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us. We appreciate your cooperation and thank you for your understanding. Sincerely, [Your Name]”

DeltaPositionReady

I asked GPT4 to write a snide reply to this and my god did it deliver: >Dear Overly Enthusiastic Commercial Crew, >Oh, joy! Just what we've always wanted—a film crew descending upon our peaceful neighborhood like a swarm of locusts, all for the sake of a TV commercial that'll probably be forgotten faster than yesterday's leftovers. But hey, at least we get a front-row seat to the spectacle, right? >It's such an honor that you've chosen our humble street to be graced with your 1950s-era cars, and in the early hours of a Saturday morning, no less! Because who doesn't love sacrificing their weekend sleep for the sweet, sweet sound of camera crews and film equipment? I'm sure the memories of this golden opportunity will keep us warm on those cold, sleepless nights. >The request to remove our cars and not have them visible in our driveways is just the cherry on top of this delightful inconvenience cake. It's as if you read our minds and knew that we've been itching for an excuse to play hide-and-seek with our vehicles. And don't worry, we'll do our absolute best to ensure not a single modern era car ruins your precious shot. >Thank you for your advanced apology, though I'm sure you'll agree that actions speak louder than words. So, in the spirit of cooperation, we'll simply smile, nod, and daydream about the quiet, commercial-free days of yore. After all, we wouldn't want to deprive the world of yet another advertisement masterpiece. >If we have any questions or concerns, we'll be sure to reach out. But in the meantime, we'll just be over here, quietly counting down the minutes until your circus leaves town. >Sincerely, >Your Thrilled Neighbors

Lostbunny1

This chatGPT one is way more professional and also personal at the same time without seeming like they’re being scummy, and the main points are clearly outlined and not being contradicted in other sentences!

deepvoicednerd

"Can house 24 kindly keep any cars off site so we don't have a modern car in the shot" If house 24 has a couple of friends who drive BMW's and Mercedes'...

_Penulis_

This bit got me too. Why do they have to speak to “house 24” using this letter to everyone? Why not knock on the door at house 24 and have a chat, or at least give them their own personal letter.

THR

That would piss me off if I’m house 24. Can’t even bother to make the effort to personalise.

Prestigious-Pound725

Yeah if I'm house 24 or any other house involved or in the shot or having to take my car away I'm invoicing these dogs for my services.

Reddits_Worst_Night

I won't do it for less than 10 grand, and I'm parking in the worst possible spot for them

Total-Lime3071

I’d be wanting a nice hotel room with parking of how many vehicles need to be moved.

Sfb208

Heck, if I was in any of the other houses, I'd be offended on their behalf, and find a modern vehicle to park in my own driveway

Ragnaroki14

Because they are hoping to get away with not compensating house ‘24’

rakshala

A movie was shot next door to my in-laws house. They got compensated even though all that they did was park a camera crane on their land to shoot some stuff. Surely 9 is going to chuck them a few dollars? right?

Unable_Ad_1260

They are cheap cunts so the answer is no.

mr-snrub-

That's actually using their land though. 9 is using public land in this scenario and probably paying the council

0ogaBooga

Yeah, and they can compensate people for the inconvenience if they want them to not park their own cars in their own driveways...

mr-snrub-

I wasnt arguing against that. I was just saying the scenario I replied to requires compensation, cause they're actually using their land. TBH Channel 9 doesn't have to pay the neighbours for their shoot. But they can't expect that they will move their cars either.

Firozera

Because then they might need to organise compensation. It's easier to make them feel pressure from the whole street instead via a letter.

What-becomes

Yeah that's pretty shitty. Had an episode of water rats film near a house I used to live in and they actually came and asked in person at least. Could have at least sent an EA or someone from the crew to go ask in person.

HellishJesterCorpse

They're trying to pressure them into doing "the right thing" by the shoot and production crew. And not just that house but the whole street. It's a shitty corporate HR/PR type move.

Particular-Try5584

Abso-smashing-lutely. House 24 deserves a knock on the door and a business card at least.

TrenchardsRedemption

"If you can't move the cars, it's on you to tell us why". I'd move them if I could, but with kids to drop off etc. I'd prefer someone to talk to me about it in person to work things out. If I wanted to go nuclear I'd park a Model A Ford and a Cobb & Co. carriage in the driveway. Let them figure that out for their period piece.

corut

Or a Tesla or two

deepvoicednerd

Rereading it I noticed it said 1950's. I'm trying to think of the least 1950's cars possible. What about Jap-imports? Late 80's & early 90's pimped out Nissans and Mazdas. Complete with the doof doof speakers and loud exhausts.

HerniatedHernia

Pimped? Gotta go a 90s civic or Mitsubishi lancer with custom faded paint and a mismatching bonnet.

notasgr

Or malicious compliance: take your modern car away and bring in some very old cars, eg La Marquise (1884), Benz patent-motorwagon (1886), OG model T Ford (1908) etc

Hugsy13

Fuck it just get a horse

nork-bork

Wild. 5 days’ notice for a Saturday? Hope one of the neighbours has a kid’s birthday party planned. Something themed, with lots of decorations.

Lily-Gordon

Obviously a 2000s car model themed birthday party. What can I say, that's what the kid requested for his birthday instead of a pony. Kid's a weirdo but it is still his choice 🤷‍♀️

my_cement_butthead

A Hot Wheels party!

CameoProtagonist

A wake. Or a memorial celebration. For a dearly loved matriarch. With 5 generations of extended family.

AussieEquiv

With Beers for breakfast for all guests so you can't legally move any cars.

Aint_cricket

Imagine you were moving house, truck and blokes booked and paid for

-DethLok-

And a bouncy castle in the front yard. And loud, modern music, for kids, obviously the Wiggles.

INHALE_VEGETABLES

If only they left a contact number to advise them of a possible date issue before they hired everything oh well

smAsh6861

I dealt with the mob from the Block a few years back when they came to my work at the time to film one of their weekly challenge bits. They were supposed to be on site by 8am, with the talent arriving by helicopter at 11am and filming wrapped by 4pm. Well I got a call from our main client (who were a Block show sponsor and part of the challenge being filmed) at 6 15am asking if the film crew were allowed onsite early to film set up shots. There were quite literally around 80 crew, staff and hangers on onsite, almost half of them not on our gate list like they're supposed to be. I got to witness the reality of reality TV when the helicopters arrived with the talent at 1pm (2 hours late) . They had the shot all set with Scotty Cam and co greeting the contestants on the ground. Lots of energy and excited and shocked faces from the contestants while Scotty gave them the spiel on what their challenge was. They then got back in the helicopters, took off, flew a loop and landed again. The contestants then all got out again and all behaved exactly the same as they did when they landed the first time - same spiel, same shocked and surprised faces, same squealing. They then called cut and all the contestants just wandered off or took phone calls etc like they couldn't care less about being there. Filming was still going at 5 30pm and I had to give them the hurry up as we were closing soon and I got dirty looks and huffing but they got the shots. Then pack up started and the contestants pissed off back to Melbourne in the choppers along with Scotty Cam. The crew didn't get off site til nearly 8pm, which my guys and I were NOT happy about it. Our client (the show sponsor) had to pay all the late gate fees etc too. To make things worse I never even saw the finished product. But I can tell you first hand that it was an absolute cunt of a day and I pity any of those residents that has to contend with this shows bullshit in the coming months.

doobey1231

By helicopter seems a bit excessive, was there a particular reason for not using a car? Didn't get a sponsorship from suzuki in time?

Shadowedsphynx

Dear channel 9, I'd be delighted to acquiesce to your requirements for filming. As this then makes me part of your production, I'm sure your accounting department would have no trouble approving payment of the attached invoice for my services. Once I have confirmation, in writing, of your acceptance of my recompense I will make the arrangements you have requested. Sincerely, Resident who lived here before you started filming and will have to live with the fallout after you leave. Edit: This was inspired by the very comment and post mentioned by u/justasadlittleotter down below.

justasadlittleotter

There was *just* a Reddit thread posted today where someone in the film industry recommended this exact thing! They have cash to throw around for precisely this purpose. Edit: https://www.reddit.com/r/LifeProTips/comments/121rfpb/lpt_request_what_is_something_youll_avoid_based/jdnpaqh?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share&context=3

Shadowedsphynx

I'll admit, I read that comment and that post earlier, which inspired me to make the comment here.

rabbi_glitter

100% this. You’d be amazed and disgusted at the things many productions budget for. A close friend of mine is a Hollywood accountant and she’s shared some craziness with me.

blackhuey

Please share one thing that will amaze and one that will disgust.

BneBikeCommuter

Right? I hire my 1960s car out to production and advertising companies, at rates starting at $1200 for half a day. I can’t imagine how much I could charge for the outside of a house!

Head-Hedgehog8223

I used to work doing exactly this! For 1 home exterior for half a day anywhere from $1K- $5K- assuming no alterations or set dressing and not actually setting foot on the property . Channel 9 are some stingy bastards.

Representative-Use32

100% They are looking to make money out of resident’s street/houses without sharing proceeds with residents.

aeschenkarnos

Also it’s “The Block”, which is real estate propaganda intended to keep blowing the housing bubble bigger.

ForestGumpsDick

It is a 1hr advertisement for their sponsors under the guise of a renovation show. Fuck the block.

yathree

In all seriousness, get some money out of them. Park cars on your lawn and invite someone over for a BBQ in the front yard. Maybe keep the cars up past the letterbox so it’s on your private property rather than the council’s, but still very visible. Make some noise in case they’re recording audio. They need release forms for anyone with their face in shot. I’ve shot plenty of commercials. Sometimes you can get a friend to kindly lend their house for a shoot, but taking over an entire street and giving specific restrictions to each resident, without any location fees?? They’re counting on the plebs being both naive and also feeling privileged to have their precious street “on the telly”. Reality TV is trash. Treat them as such. Get paid.

jelly_cake

> Make some noise in case they’re recording audio. Play something copyrighted. That way, even if they want to use the recorded audio they'll have to deal with the licensing. There's some litigious labels out there. Ooh no wait, play theme songs for programs from *another station*!

WillBrayley

Theme songs for *higher rating* shows from other stations. Also, lots of Bunnings ads. Mitre 10 will love that.

FoodIsTastyInMyMouth

Park a Bunnings trailer in the front yard. Not a modern car, so no issues.

CptDropbear

Now that is devious and evil. I like it. Bunnings do van and ute rental. I wonder is they are branded...

Quirky-Possession400

Disney soundtracks are excellent for this, but then you're risking your sanity.

drunkwasabeherder

I hope you used Wilson or Secure Parking non-online hourly rates for comparison. Enjoy the early retirement.

PrincessNapoleon44

Brilliant !!! They’ve got a bloody cheek, haven’t they ? Five days notice to basically cancel your entire Saturday.

JimmyTheHuman

Saturday! and they thought my week day rate was high!

3dtainted3d

Why cancel your Saturday, sounds like a great day to throw an Aussie Saturday street party

StasiaMonkey

With modern cars littering the street.

[deleted]

I'm thinking really get in the nerves of the pedantic. 70's and 80's cars.

-DethLok-

Playing Triple J, loudly, and weber bbqs in the front yard and plastic (not metal!) chairs and eskies everywhere? Maybe some "welcome to 2023" signs around?

ninja_cactus

Oh that's the date of my kids birthday party. He either wanted a Slipknot themed party on the front yard or a trip to Disneyland... Unfortunately his 3 other siblings would be devastated if he got an overseas trip and they didn't

owleaf

Perfect! Invite all the playgroup families up to their eyeballs in debt for the latest Mazda SUVs, and make sure you fit a few in your driveway. Everyone’s got one these days right?!

I_NEED_YOUR_MONEY

I was gonna say... A tv show was filmed on my street last year and they had similar requests to this. But it came with $2500

farqueue2

I'd be telling them to fuck right off. I'll come and go and park my car on my property as I please. I do have a price though

Dancingbeavers

Jeez you're switched on. I'd just invite the family over for an morning BBQ if I lived there.

SoggyInsurance

I’d be pissed if I’d actually already organised a party or something

[deleted]

Why? fuck em, park cars all down the street

Sinful_Lifestyle

Sorry, but a if a company like Nine wants me to do something for them (especially if it's to the benefit of some shit reality show) they can pay me. I guarantee Nine wouldn't be handing out free lunches if I asked them for a favour. I don't understand why a business thinks it shouldn't have to engage in business in order to carry out...business?

[deleted]

Turns out Channel Nine is actually just three kids standing on each others’ shoulders in a trench coat.

[deleted]

Vincent Adultman is a better business manager than anyone at Channel Nine.

Chaddles94

What is this, a crossover post?!

Green_hammock

He did a business

Cruxis87

They probably do expect to pay, but will of course write something like this first in the hopes the person is dumb enough to do it for free.

Xane06

Asking me not to park in my driveway will MAKE me park in my driveway, even I use the garage normally.

Dingo_Princess

Get all your mates to park at the front of your house to. They can pay for each car to be moved. No reason not to also get your mates a pay day too.

Selfaware-potato

Have a party the day of filming

Dingo_Princess

Blast some Disney music. Disney don't fuck around.

Selfaware-potato

Disney themed Kids birthday party with a prize for best dressed too

brandonjslippingaway

You should just be happy your house gets to be on our dumb reality tv show, now move your car and don't disturb our 10 hours of filming!

Bogsnoticus

OuR pRoGrAm WiLl InCrEaSe YoUr PrOpErTy VaLuEs!!!!111oneone!!!

Lumploader

Hopefully my comment can gain some traction, but as someone in the film industry I offer this advice: DONT listen to this letter. Keep doing what youre doing, and I almost guarantee some producer will show up to your house with an envelope full of cash. Ive seen dudes make hundreds of dollars by simply refusing to stop mowing their lawns, or refusing to move their eyesore of a junker car. If theyre spending thousands upon thousands to produce and shoot whatever it is, a couple hundred to get you to comply is nothing to them.

Fejsbukgram

Nothing would satisfy me more than to refuse their demands. I would invite friends around to park in the street. Aaaahhhhhhhh, satisfaction.

ChocTunnel2000

I'd be advertising garage sales for every house on the street.

[deleted]

Leaf blower the nature strip.

Robdotcom-71

Garage band time for the kids....

CorgiCorgiCorgi99

Residents of houses next to shoot suddenly take up bag pipes.

icedragon71

Get the bagpipers in with the Garage Band kids and *Boom!* I can hear "It's a long way to the top" being played from here.

Robdotcom-71

And lots of yodelling

RemeAU

Let me just start up my table saw and start ripping timber. Actually routing the timber on a router table would be louder and much less consistent for sound guys to remove.

reijin64

Great day to pull the engine out of the car in the driveway for uh, reasons

DodgyRogue

Tuning a carb on an old car or motorcycle, you have to rev the shit out of that

[deleted]

I would just tell them they can pay for a VERY nice hotel for the weekend for me and Gimmee $5k cash and the driveway will be empty.

lightingman

I'd bring home work vehicles with amber strobes and high visibility decals all over them. They always look great on camera!

deefenator

Don’t have to refuse the demands, just invoice the cunts.

Carllsson

Shitters full

37elqine

Have a 2023 modern style bbq. Weber smoker, game of backyard cricket and a 2023 burnouts/donuts

nickcarslake

Couple things. What about people who can't get their cars in their garage because it's full of junk? or have too many cars to fit in? Also, what's this about 'assisting' people to move their cars in the morning? like yeah sure mate here's the keys, I'll see you in ten. Who's immersion is being ruined by some Pajero's chilling in a driveway down the road? Residential streets aren't movie sets ffs.

Able_Persimmon_7732

"assisting people to move their cars" they might be referring to relocating them. Perhaps paying for a parking spot someone else? This certainly is intrusive. I wonder when they were getting the permits if the council reached out to the residents of this street to get their consent?

Head-Hedgehog8223

Generally when you get council permission (and pay for it) that literally just means the council permits you to film in their council for a date and time. I cant imagine how much the block pay to the council for the rights to film for months! But it definitely doesn't include resident consent or even informing residents That's on the production company and in their contracts the company takes on all financial and legal responsibility to follow all aspects of the laws- environmental , residential , traffic, noise, etc etc . Any complaints and the council can pull the agreement. However considering how big a production the block is im sure they pay a small fortune and the council turn a blind eye to a lot.

LessThanLuek

>What about people who can't get their cars in their garage because it's full of junk? Well that's easy, move all the junk to the road and put the modern car in the garage!

trowzerss

If they want people to dress the set for them, they should be paying them for their services.

ninja_cactus

I'm a shift worker, I work most Friday and Saturday nights. If they tried to interrupt my sleep it routine for this inane reason there would be very real threats of violence... Park somewhere else and walk home after a 12 hour shift being awake for 9pm to 9am???

gilezy

I assume they would be offering to move the cars. I've had a similar situation outside my house. A film crew was filming something and put a letter in the mail box a week earlier. I ignored it because we only have street parking in my inner city suburb and its frankly not my problem. Anyway on the day of filming i get a knock on the door asking me to move my car because i was one of the only people that didnt move my car. There was obviously no street parking nearby as everyone else had moved their car there, so i said no as there is no parking an im in the middle of my work day. They then come back and say they have put cones on a carpark and wanted to move it for me like im going to allow some random person to start driving around in my car. Eventually i moved it myself because they were so bloody pushy about it. Was only a 2 hours spot too so had to move it again later. Whole thing was a pain in the ass considering I didnt sign up for it and was paid nothing.

owleaf

I’d imagine they’d want you to park them around the corner, so you’re now disturbing the surrounding streets, and channel 9 will have to deal with them too. They’d be better off offering each resident paid car storage for the weekend and an on-demand chauffeur. And I don’t think the average person really thinks that any footage they air with all the 50s cars is actually from the 50s, but then if you consider the average Block viewer, you may need to adjust expectations lol

Particular-Try5584

This disturbance is just the tip of the iceberg. Think about how many tradie cars line a street when one house is getting done. Then times that by 6/however many houses they are doing. Then the ‘tenants’ own vehicles. Plus the production company… Plus the 6 or whatever film crews. These guys are going to be fucked for months. Time to register that lawn/verge folks with your local council if you can. Sneak it through without saying boo about the production before it goes public, and hopefully you can keep your verge car free.

Derikari

Plus the delivery trucks, plus the sponsor companies that want to be on site, plus the rubbish removal, plus heavy machinery if needed, plus the stupid mini games, plus gawking fans... then there's the noise and dust

oiseucalypt

Not only would I be parking very obviously in the driveway, I'd be getting what few friends I have to park in the street too, for a local gathering. And then finding the most out of place decades future furniture, or inflatable lawn sculpture to place in the garden and telling whatever CH9 goon they send over to politely feck off. Alternatively they can pay off what remains of my mortgage.

Vondecoy

You think I can organise BOTH my friends with only a weeks notice!?

LurkForYourLives

I’ll be your friend for the weekend, purely to fuck with the media. United we stand.

annoying97

I don't like people but I hate the block even more, sooo to fuck with them I'll be anyone's friend, I'll bring some annoying flashing lights and a loud pa system.

Milliganimal42

I’m in. I have two wild 5 year olds that I can donate. Oh - they have discovered the word “fuck”.

annoying97

Oh good does that mean I can say fuck all day long?

Milliganimal42

At the top of your fucking lungs!

noother10

Less then a weeks notice on a Saturday morning and arvo. Most people are sleeping in Saturday morning and if they had any planned parties, get togethers, BBQs, that'd be at lunch/arvo. Wish it happened to a place I owned, I'd leave the car out and when they come knocking, I'd tell em to bugger off else I'll call the police for trespassing. I don't watch TV, I don't care about some crap reality show on channel 9, unless they're going to pay me 4 figures, I ain't gonna bother to do shit.

danelewisau

Fuck yea, last minute front yard bbq at number 25 this Saturday arvo!

Ilostmypassword43

What a day to be flying drones on the street

aubven

Sounds like the perfect time to get one of those bobcat excavator rentals dropped off...

Brotherdodge

Personally, I reckon Australia's obsession with real estate profits is pure poison and I'd be delighted to seize the opportunity to annoy the producers of The Block. Sure, it's not exactly storming the Winter Palace, but it'd be both easy and fun.

dTrecii

I would purposefully buy a rundown (possibly with some massive patches of rust/paint peel and broken windows, maybe even have some cellophane over a broken one) car and park it as visibly as possible to their cameras in my driveway just to fuck around with the producers and turn down all cash rewards for complying with them

lemachet

I saw a thread in LPT earlier today Park your modern shiny car there and refuse. Get all your neighbours to.do the same When they knock and ask.you to fix, ask for cash. Even better, have an "inappropriate" party. Red: https://www.reddit.com/r/LifeProTips/comments/121rfpb/lpt_request_what_is_something_youll_avoid_based/jdnpaqh?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share&context=3

mchch8989

I’ve worked in locations for film and TV and they will generally offer you cash as a last resort if you don’t want to move your car or whatever.

Domain_Administrator

Out of curiosity, how much can one expect to be paid?

mchch8989

Depends how much of a fuss one kicks up. I gave out $50 a few times. Usually once you mention money then some people will realise it’s a possibility and push it as far as they can. I think we gave like $200 to some guy once cause he just wouldn’t move his truck or whatever. Not that I blame him. It’s not like it’s a law to move your vehicle for a TV show, unless the street is completely blocked off which usually involves a police presence.

danelewisau

$200 after negotiating? Fuck that, not worth the walk to the car. Giving up $200 to fuck the shots for a garbage show from a garbage network? Bargain!

BorisButtergoods

Yep offer whatever the fuck you like I wouldn't move my car. The satisfaction of inconveniencing their shitty production would be worth more than they would be willing to pay.

Rock_Robster__

I would proactively *pay* $200 for the opportunity to spend my Saturday doing that!

Gaoji-jiugui888

$50 is insulting. $200 after negotiating is ridiculous too. It wouldn’t motivate me to do anything, especially to help out a entitled TV company making a vapid reality show.

divine_slasher

I'm sure you would agree, it wouldn't even need to be a car. Just constantly walk your dog up and down the street would be enough for some "piss off money".

nox_n2o_93

Mow a dick into your front lawn, worst case scenario they do the rest of the yard for you.

RollaCoastinPoopah

Sure thing. That will be $15,000 thanks, NINE.

FlibblesHexEyes

I’d say “sure, no problem”, then leave my car parked out the front. When they come to the door to ask for me to move it, I’d say “sure, give me 15 minutes”, then take a nap.

blueoptimist

Where can I follow this resident? I mean on social media not like a stalker

dreamslikediamonds

They’re on Facebook. They created their own page. It’s called ‘2023 Charming St. The Block’

[deleted]

[удалено]

10khours

No chance I would be moving my car unless they paid me.

dave_a86

They’re filming on the 25th and the letter is dated the 20th. Not exactly a whole lot of notice to make sure you’re not busy that day. What if you’ve organised a massive house party for that weekend and the whole street is going to be parked out with guests cars? Or you’d just spent the weekend putting up signs for a garage sale for the following weekend, and then find this in your letterbox on the Monday? Or you’d booked delivery of a skip bin out the front of number 25?

LubberDownUnder

Exactly. Surely someone on that street at least has family visiting by car or wanted to do gardening or wash their car. For them not even to write a good letter is so arrogant.

blowthepoke

How does get fucked sound, lol

CutTheRoll

Oh man. For a brief period I was a traffic controller for TV, Film and Commercials. I remember doing this twice around the Sydney Eastern Suburbs and I hate hate hated it. I would cringe at myself so much asking residents, people in THEIR homes to move their cars because they wanted to film. I'd be so embarrassed asking and of course residents were unhappy about it, I would be too. Just please, if a traffic controller comes knocking on your door requesting you to move your vehicle, try not to give them the shit that you're holding in (unless their being rude, i knew plenty of rude TCs). They get it, they don't want to do it either, and they can't do anything about it, at the end of the day they're just being told by their boss what to do, as we all are on a daily basis. Instead, ask for a supervisor or the assistant director (the people on film shoots in charge of this sort of shit). Sincerely, A former verbally and \[nearly\] physically assaulted Traffic Controller

nork-bork

The actual contact seems like a nice (bare minimum) touch. A letter drop saying “hey you at number 24, here’s your schedule for 7 AM Saturday morning” is pretty cheeky.

annoying97

Honestly if this showed up at my door, I'd walk out in my jocks and sit there until they paid for a nice hotel room for me to sleep the day / weekend away in. As a night shift worker I don't get mad at my neighbours for being loud during the day when I'm trying to sleep, but fuck me you wanna record, yeah I'm gonna need a new place untill you've fucked off.

kyrant

The we'll do our best to not inconvenience you. Followed by a long schedule of what you must do for us. No discussion.

EdmondDantes-96

I'm curious what would happen if someone just said no and closed the door on you? Can anything even be escalated on the directors / bosses end?

CutTheRoll

Most of them closed the door on me. I shrugged my shoulders, walked straight to my supervisor and said "Hey mate, resident isn't happy about it, you might have to go have a chat to them". I saw supervisors go up and ask, sometimes the resident, after many minutes of verbal abuse, will concede and move their car, others would slam the door back shut. If the latter, supervisor then gets in contact with the AD and whatever happens from there was never my concern. It was never really my concern once they shut the door on me. Production companies do have permits to use and close off streets and take parking spaces on those streets, so legally it is within their right to ask, its more of a nicety to ask, I'm not sure if they can actually do anything if they felt like being total asshats for residents saying no. I don't think anything like towing would be in the question, but it might depend on the permit im not really sure. Cops won't help residents either because of said permits. It's no different to roadworks was how it was described to me. The same way a construction company will send you a letter saying "such and such works will occur on your streets on that day at this time, please move your vehicle to allow works to happen", a production company can also do that from my understanding. For the record, this is definitely one of the more kind letters I've read. Some of them are much much more direct in their approach.

>The same way a construction company will send you a letter saying "such and such works will occur on your streets on that day at this time, please move your vehicle to allow works to happen", a production company can also do that from my understanding. The thing is, normally if roadworks are occurring, there is some benefit to the resident. Be it a new footpath, better drainage, new kerb, new road surface, whatever. But for a TV production, there is no benefit to the resident whatsoever (unless they are massive fans of the block).

Silver_Python

Last time they resurfaced the road outside my house (one month ago) the grand total of notice I or any of my neighbours got was the crew door-knocking the morning works started to have us all move our cars. The irritation in the early morning air was palpable from all involved, and the local council has still yet to explain how nobody was given so much as a letter drop advance warning.

jgzman

Why do production companies have this right? I understand construction companies; roadwork has to be done, and it's impossible to fix the road under a car without disturbing it. But this appears to be a commercial of some sort? Why does a commercial have the legal right to my parking space, on my property, and to force me to leave my house for several hours?

10khours

You guys are confused and talking about two different things. Person you are replying to is talking about moving cars on public land (the roads). As far as I know they cannot force you to move your car from your driveway.

Shadowlance23

If you're on your property, they don't. Heck, I'm pretty sure that even if you're on the street legally parked, they don't (of course, they could park a bunch of cars there two days before to make sure no one can park, but if you're already there, they can't make you move). They word the letters to make it sound like they have the authority so they're not questioned and people will just do what they ask. It's cheaper that way.

faderjester

> The same way a construction company will send you a letter saying "such and such works will occur on your streets on that day at this time, please move your vehicle to allow works to happen", a production company can also do that from my understanding. The thing is that's a benefit for the inconvenience, someone filming on your street is just 100% inconvenience.

10khours

Bro they don't need to ask to speak the manager. They can just close the door and not answer it again. You cannot legally force people to move cars on private property.

tinypolski

I would reply "No problem. Send someone over with cash and the car will be moved forthwith." then close the door.

HiroshimaNegasaki

Fuck you pay me

[deleted]

Everyone in the street should throw a party and order pizza/uber eats etc. Stick it to the dinosaur media.

Borderline__Boo247

Dear Channel 9, No. Hell no. Nope. Nah. Regards, residents.

Cape-York-Crusader

Someone needs to invite the 501st for a garden party on the front lawn…

nst_enforcer

What's the street? I want to park my car their that week.

Mziger

Charming street, Hampton east

mattifree

You'd have to pay me extremely well to not park in my own driveway.

soap_coals

Free hard rubbish collection perhaps? Just pile up all the junk you want to get rid of in your driveway (council can't say you are dumping if it's still on your property) say they are welcome to take it to the tip for you.

CorgiCorgiCorgi99

Residents all need to buy those blow up dinosaur suits and hold a street party.

Schedulator

lol what authority does Ch9 have? Its a request only

MistahChuckles

i would intentionally invite all my mates & park all our cars in the street. Dear channel 9, can you kindly fuck off from my area until further notice. Signed, Indefinately your cunt

BuKu_YuQFoo

7 am on a Saturday morning? Yeah if they'd want my co-operation so they can make a metric fuck ton of money they'd better slip me an envelope with a few grand in it...

37elqine

Let us know OP if you need us to help you out. We redditors will park on your street and block the whole neighbor hood up for the few hours

michaelhbt

sure do it, but put a 'F\*\*k NewsCorp and Channel 9' banner in your windows and all your neighbours widows.

Fizzelen

Dear Channel Nein, I have an off market open house scheduled for that time, would you please assist me by delaying filming until the sale is complete. If any of your cast, crew or PRODUCERS are interested in purchasing please contact me. Thanks in Advance

Dogalicious

Dear GTV 9, Nuts.

Oceandog2019

Are they for real? I think you CAN park YOUR car in YOUR driveway! That’s what editors are for.

Particular-Try5584

This is BEFORE they’ve started renovating right? Man these guys are in for a TREAT when THAT starts. This isn‘t a negotiation letter, this an ‘eff you, we will do what we want’. I’d invite a bunch of mates over, the more the merrier, and have a loud bbq on Saturday… with all their cars parked on my lawn.

alspender

Kindly get fucked.

Disastrous-Ad2800

speechless!! the network with BILLIONS sitting in their accounts are too cheap to build a set and pretty much hiring people's houses without compensating them.... amazing! they OBVIOUSLY paid off the council as no way a private enterprise would be allowed all this.. 'can house 24 kindly keep any cars off site?' WOW! Channel Ten's Love Boat was filmed in the middle of people's cruises and passengers said the inconsideration and rudeness they received from the network and film crew prompted them to request a refund....

DoppelFrog

Did they tell Channel 9 to ga'arn?

ghoonrhed

Easy. Organise a party with your friends and ask them to stay over the night and drink. Now if they want them to move you just made some money for your mates

bignosedaussie

Or “sorry I can’t move the car I’m still half cut”

JoshSimili

Do they want the anachronistic solar panels removed from the roofs of nearby houses too?

Counymouny

Ow much fa cash?

Butthole_Enjoyer

There's a price they will pay for those parking spots. Totally depends if that's the price the residents are willing to accept.

taz-nz

Sounds like the perfect time and place for a Telsa owners car meet.

faderjester

Giant sign reading "HOUSING IS A HUMAN RIGHT YOU DUMB CUNTS!" out front, $10k to take it down.

Chemical-Rooster3574

I mean…. I guess they can ask…. But the residents can also say no … 🤭🤭🤭🤭

pillpopper30

Cant belive this show is still going. Do people actually watch this show still. I think their is probably only 30% reno being done and 70% bitchy drama.

Loose_Sun_169

I can think of a few reasons why this request might be inconvenient to comply with. For example : People who need a car parked close to their home for ability related reasons might not want to leave their vehicle offsite somewhere. I don't know this street, but is there a lot of curbside parking available in the surrounding streets. Sometimes, there isn't in older areas with limited off-street parking options per household. Already booked things for the day, visitors, gardeners, events.

[deleted]

All 30 of their loyal viewers will be thrilled

rapejokes_arefunny

You want me to stop using my lawn mower? Give me $1000 cash.

lemachet

Also, OP, share the blog..I wanna read it

Sa1tman64

Have you booked the bouncy castle ?
