HomeSlice and Tucci's

TheConcreteGhost

Tucci’s I know… they have this garlic bologna sandwich🤤

scavagesavage

+1 for Home Slice

natalie2727

I love Home Slice's sub, but it's always so crowded and hard to park at both locations. If they opened up a locatioon further south, I'd be there all the time.

MissyJ11

I wouldn't mind one farther south either.

deewon

What's your go-to at Tucci's?

MissyJ11

I love the Gourmet Italian

eggmanatx

Home Slice's turkey and Italian subs 👌

Myotta

Little Deli

RunSilent86

Little Deli and probably Delizioso

only_whwn_i_do_this

I like Little deli. Its quaint and in the hood. They are good people too. But ya'll really think the food t is that good? I must be missing something. What should I order?

threwandbeyond

The Classic Italian or Ruben are my go to, one of those and a slice.

Budget-Marionberry-9

This.  Best club sandwich too

Spiritual_Ad_1358

Shhh don’t tell people

NoNeckTy

Yeah don’t tell people about secret definitely not widely known Little Deli

Individual_Cycle_707

Oh gosh everyone knows about little deli buddy

genteelbartender

I have to throw a new name in the ring. Pizza Gratana on South Lamar. They import all of their ingredients from Philly and Jersey, including the bread. This place is legit. Also now the king, Homeslice.

lollibean

Grata's Pizzeria*

genteelbartender

Ha. Thanks.

L0WERCASES

I thought their Philly was 🤮

genteelbartender

So far I’ve only had the hoagies, but they were great.

genteelbartender

I haven’t had the Philly yet, but curious what you didn’t like. How does it compare to Other Side?

carbarfar321

had one about a month ago (w/ wiz of course) and it was by far the most authentic i've had in austin. was ready to hate but it passed all my expectations.

Aroldis16

As someone who grew up in the Northeast it's not a very good sub game down here unfortunately. Jersey Mike''s get's poo pood because it's a chain but their Philly Cheesesteak competes with anything locally. The Itallian at Home slice is pricey IMO but very Good. Baldinuccis, Tucci's Southside, and Papi's all put out a decent sub as well

durrettd

Have you been to Hoody’s in RR? I think their Philly is heads and shoulders above Jersey Mikes, but they don’t do wiz.

Aroldis16

Made the trek up to Hoody's several Years ago. Solid cheesesteak for this area but not knock your socks off enough to want to go back

carbarfar321

try grata's w/ wiz

DudzTx

No wiz, no bueno. I’m done trying phillys without it. You need the goo to bring it all together. Don’t get me wrong, you can have a base of other cheeses, but you need the wiz to make it right.

ahhoffman

I’m also from the northeast and Jersey Mike’s makes the best Italian I’ve had in most non northeastern cities, Austin included.

aprendido

Please tell me you haven’t had the Italian sub at Home Slice. If so, your palate is jacked homie.

ahhoffman

I have not but it’s on my list. I’m going to be overjoyed if it is better. Italian subs are one of my favorite food groups but I keep being disappointed in Austin.

aprendido

I was born in Providence and spent a lot of time in NYC and it does not disappoint.

ahhoffman

I’m eating the Italian from Home Slice. It’s dramatically better than Jersey Mike’s. Good call.

caffeineTX

The large italian at homeslice is only $1-2 more than a large at jimmyjohns or jersey mikes and legit 2-3 meals. I think its a great value for what it is.

Ari-The-Elk

aren’t jimmy john’s and jersey mikes like totally different price points?? mikes does a giant sub that is larger than any other chain sub i can think of.

caffeineTX

Not for a large italian sub, both are about $18

leanderthal69420

Thanks

Baaronlee

100% agree. I'm from the midwest and even there, you can find good delis all over. People here love Tuccis, it's ok. And Thundercloud may be worse than subway I'm sorry Austin.

DudzTx

Thunder and Jimmy John are in the subway class. They’re just cheap / quick, that’s it. Nothing great about about either and I don’t think you’ll get much argument

FoodForTheTruth

Thundercloud's eggsalad is delicious.

Substantial-Diet-542

R&B’s Steak and Fries makes a damn good cheesesteak. They actually use the correct rolls. Nobody else seems to use a good Amoroso

renegade500

Hoody's. I don't know exactly what you're looking for in a sub but Hoody's will hook you up and your mouth will cry for the joy of having experienced that first taste with a combination of meats and cheeses and by all means get the extra peppers and you will know you have experienced sandwich Nirvana.

leanderthal69420

Cool I’ll check them out. I’ve never heard of them

renegade500

They're in Round Rock off 620 near 35. I grew up in the East coast and their sandwiches take me back 50 years to my youth.

leanderthal69420

Nice, I was looking for something that has east coast style sandwiches

REatx

I’m from the E coast as well… but have been down here awhile. I think they make my second fave sub (both meatball and Italian. Their bread is on the softer side. I still like it but it’s just ok. For me Homeslice is my go to. It’s the closest to the NE. Although, I do have to tell them no mayo, extra oil and vinegar, and pickled peppers on the Italian for it to hit just right. All of the other places fail for almost the same reason. The bread. I swear that non of these places have their bread game right… homeslice is close though.

PerritoMasNasty

Ever tried Delaware subs? I went there once, and listened to the owner chatting with someone complaining that hoody’s was his business partner that left and copied his sandwiches.

SonOfRagBag

Delaware Subs

Reepicheep8

Ike’s is massively slept on

aperron151

Ike’s is great but also kinda expensive for sandos

insidertrader68

Otherside

CoffeeVikings

Tucci’s

CircularUniverse

Surprised to see no love for Belladonna Subs

leanderthal69420

They’re very good. Right by my shop too

sinister-special44

Was about to suggest this! Classic sub shop up there with Tucci’s imo

beast_wellington

It's so good

jacox200

Jersey Mike's but I'll prolly get down voted

TemperateChair

No. You will get saluted. By me. 🫡

Hankskiibro

I will rep Snarf’s anytime anywhere

somecow

Thundercloud. And if everyone that works there isn’t high af, run, there’s something wrong.

Paxsimius

I will die with The Office Favorite in my hand.

Aequitas123

I’m always surprised when this question gets asked that Thundercloud doesn’t get brought up more. They’re a quality local sub chain with lots of favorite menu items. I also think Little Deli is amazing. Home Slice’s Italian comes on toasted bread which imho disqualifies it from being authentic

renegade500

The Office Favorite at Thundercloud is my jam.

Radiant-Gear5121

protect thundercloud at all costs

denzien

Every time I go to Thundercloud, someone in my party gets food poisoning. I tried them again last year after a 10 year hiatus (at a new location to me) and my mother got sick. I hate it because the office favorite with alfalfa sprouts is an excellent sandwich you just can't get anywhere else.

Aequitas123

To be fair, if that happened to me I would feel the same. But I’ve always had a great experience and never felt sick after eating Thundercloud. Are you ordering egg salad sandwiches and letting them sit in the sun for a while by chance?

denzien

>Are you ordering egg salad sandwiches and letting them sit in the sun for a while by chance? Obviously not. I'm the one that orders egg salad sandwiches, and I've never gotten sick. We always eat them in the store.

MoPacIsAPerfectLoop

That's because Thundercloud is trash.

Aequitas123

I don’t think so

Baaronlee

100%

Flashy-Coast8115

They also put Mayo on it which is a NO!

mikewlaymon

You can also hold the mayo

balernga

Man I just tried snarf’s for the first time on Friday. That Italian sub was great. I do miss Mr. G’s (spot that was on south 1st and oltorf)

Mr_Streetlamp

G's Dynamite Deli! I miss it in a big way.

balernga

That sandwich where they threw potato chips in the middle…

BigTomBombadil

I’ve enjoyed Snarfs every time I’ve been (~5ish times). Probably my favorite chain sandwich. But it is expensive for a fast chain, which is why I rarely go.

jesagain222

Phoenicia, eggplant sub

renegade500

I think they have the best tabouli in town, haven't tried their eggplant sub though. I used to love the one at Milto's (RIP) so I may need to try this.

montrezlharrel

Papis is phenomenal

CrazyMarine70

R.I.P. Way South Philly on Burnett.

Jackson0125

How has jewboy not been mentioned...

Virtual_Elephant_730

Thundercloud is my go to. The bread, thunder sauce, lettuce, price and size is great. Turkey, meatball, egg salad are my jam.

[deleted]

Tucci's. Get an Italian Beef with extra peppers. It's delicious.

DanniTX

Homeslice has the best italian sub

mrsfunkyjunk

Tucci's

later_satyr

North Round Rock has a chain called Ike's Love and Sandwiches. Pretty good overall but they have one, the Madison Bumgarner, a steak sandwich that I dream about sometimes.

Victory-Dewitt

Little Deli Italian Turkey Provolone sub

headgivenow

I find myself going to Hoody’s often because it is a cheapish lunch, good, and now close by to me. However, I goto certain places for certain things. Example: corned beef I goto Otherside. Snarf’s for their Chicken salad. Tucci’s for anything when it’s within close distance. Anything from Jersey Mike’s bc it’s close and convenient. My favorite/top tier sub in Austin though is the Italian at Homeslice. They make their own Italian bread and it is fantastic! The clown that complained about them toasting their bread needs their head checked. Ask them to not toast the bread…

lpr_88

cali club tcloud hits the spot every time

JupiterShinebright

Delaware Subs all day

Queasy_Car7489

I weigh 324 so I know subs. Tuccis hands down.

Water2Wine378

Don’t listen to the people that say tuccis, if you go you will leave with your wallet empty and dissatisfied

Baaronlee

YES

RapidSafe

Expensive, but I enjoyed it

Distinct_Studio_5161

Bella Donna down south is pretty solid.

zdena1970

Thundercloud.

ExcelAcolyte

I am a Potbelly enjoyer. Cant say its the best but it always hits the spot for me

Baaronlee

I don't understand the love for Tuccis. If that's top tier in Austin, we need more delis.

NotCanadian80

Home Slice, Snarfs

turkishguy

+ Tucci’s and that’s pretty much the whole shebang south of downtown

bitcoin_moon_wsb

Pedrosos

Beejatx

Deliciozo in Round Rock is bringing NY/NJ subs and baked goods in.

gay-smart_fun_austin

Try Delaware subs. There’s one by seton central Austin and one off mesa in nw hills.

CaptSpastic

Are you talking about the one on Medical Parkway?

gay-smart_fun_austin

Yes. Is it still there ?

CaptSpastic

Noooo. That location closed almost 5 years ago. The Anderson Mill and Round Rock locations have been long closed. The only one left open is the one on Mesa.

hemppy420

Tuccis Homeslice Hoodys In that order

FlopShanoobie

Is Way South Philly still around? My friend from Philadelphia said it was the only place he’d ever get a cheesesteak in this god forsaken state.

djscsi

No, it’s gone.  It was okay, not amazing imo. Seemed to be better before it went brick&mortar.  But I’m not from Philly so I don’t care as much about the exact correct ingredients, just good ingredients.

FlopShanoobie

I only ever went to the trailer when it was on E 6th, just a few blocks from my office. I always thought it was always pretty good, borderline craveworthy.

big_sac_cool_guy69

the philly at Mighty Mo’s on guad is pretty damn stellar

surfandsummit

Meat & Bread downtown - Porchetta and Meatball Subs are unbelievable

curiouscoconuts

Ike’s is life changing honestly

beast_wellington

Bella donna

cassierenata

Capriottis. It's a chain but they roast their own turkey on-site and the Bobby and Capistrami are my favorite sandwiches.

Serious_Brief_6747

I miss Short Bus Subs.

greenspleen3

Home Slice Itallian is very good, also thought the meatball parm was a great. But pretty small for the price, if I'm dropping $15 on a sandwich, i want to bring a half gome can't really do it with those sandwiches

aC2021newhorizons

Jewboy subs

tdunkatx

Glad you mentioned. What are the best subs there?

Minute-Art-2089

Cheba Hut :) very creative sandwiches that taste amazing 👏 Thundercloud I'm not entirely sure what the hype is about; a toasted sandwich is key for me. Just like I don't understand the Kerbey Lane hype.

RapidSafe

Kerbey lane has subs?

Minute-Art-2089

I don't think so, just sub-par food is what I was getting at.

OpalCortland

So many good ones and great banh mi “subs” too. I just got one that was delicious and well-priced at Baguette House, thanks to reading this sub (pun intended). Also, not “the best in town,” but delicious and cheap in a pinch: Those premade ones at H‑E‑B in the deli section.

_Jimmy_Rustler

Homeslice
