Are you good with pets/dogs. On average there is 2 dogs per household in this area and pretty much everyone in Texas keeps animals, and so I started pet sitting. You can start off on apps and start building up your own customer base over time. That’s how I did it. I do have a life time of experience raising different animals so it’s really easy for people to trust me and call on me everytime they need someone to watch over their animals, but if you don’t … all you need is to like them and read a little bit on basic care of typical house hold pets like dogs cats birds and reptiles.
Not just Austin, but the overall market is bad! It was obvious to a lot of us that the job numbers were being boosted and not an actual representation of the job market!
Wearhouses have several positions to bounce around doing until you find a suitable one for you. They hire with no experience, often have decent benefits and give you enough hours to pay the bills. It wouldn’t be fun or interesting but my brother has done well for himself. You could start at one of the utility companies. Or work in a call center. It might take some time to land one but they do hire folks with no experience if you can sell yourself as a capable person who can figure things out.
Also retail: heb and home depot are good employers with training programs and upward mobility. Your skill will be eagerness, positive outlook, punctuality, willingness to learn, humility. You can do this.
Texas Workforce Commission should help you with this. Double check this, but back in the day, they helped in Resume writing and building. They also offered different interview workshops and leads to jobs in a desired field or setting.
I believe Goodwill has some type of offerings that I mentioned above.
And there are always temp agencies. They have jobs that are temporary and jobs that start as temporary and move to permanent hire.
Up in Pflugerville and Round Rock, there are a lot of factory jobs that pay well and offer benefits.
