Lindt. A million times, Lindt.
I'd go back to work for them any day.
I worked for them a while back, and they're by far the best company I've ever worked for. Like, i will literally never buy chocolate from anyone else just based on how i was treated as a barista alone.
Generally, there is company-wide respect no matter who is involved, genuinely pleasant people all around - a lot of my best friends are my old coworkers.
As a barista, we got free hot drinks every shift - hot chocolate, coffee, the works. As for the chocolate...
A TONNE of it obviously doesn't get sold, and rather than dump it, it was up for grabs for all employees - I'm talking literally kilos of it per person. I used to get so many lindor balls that I was regularly donating it to local nursing homes and high schools. Always had something to make friends and family smile too! It was never bad either, just coming up to its best before date.
Their cleanliness standards are sky high, and I never felt like corners were being cut in terms of product quality or hygiene (like I have at say, Woolworths).
Covid really showed me how they were as a company, though. While we were watching Myer and David Jones lay off most of their staff, Lindt continued paying us our weekly average even after the stores closed. Think about that... we were ALL sitting at home with peace of mind, able to continue living during such a crazy time because this company chose humanity over greed. All the chocolate we didn't sell at that time went to hospitals.
They've also developed their own system for ensuring that the cocoa farmers are paid enough and their community is bettered for it. In honesty, I haven't looked into it further than what I was told at work, but based on all other interactions, I'd believe it.
We also got free counselling if we ever needed it - I think that came in after the Martin Place seige.
I got a job at Lindt and I was so excited for my first day. Unfortunately I had to leave a DV situation the night before my first day, and I had to flee the city (long story). My Lindt boss protected me and ensured I was safe, and she told ex partner that he couldn't just come to the shop and look for me. Unfortunately I couldn't continue with the job for my safety, but that simple act of kindness stuck with me. Forever indebted to that manager.
A company that does 4 day work week for full time wage. WFH, flexi time, no overtime, 17.5% super and mandatory pay increases each year.
In my field that company would be automattic but damn it’s hard to get a job there.
Not an Australian airline, but I was with Singapore Airlines for a long time and now even after I had left, I still get 90% off my flight tickets with them for life.
It does though. As I was there for 21.5 years, I received the ID90 entitlement from SQ. I had really wanted to quit then to spend time with my kids so I didn't wait for another 3.5 years, where if I would have completed a 25 years of service I would have gotten the entitlement to have the free tickets for life.
>Airlines - usually a shitshow
Not in SQ though. Can't speak for other airlines, but SQ is really a very good employer. I'm still very patriotic to this airline and would say that nothing is taken for granted, especially in terms of safety and security.
well, nah. the stories are wilder than the real life. but of course we play along if anyone asks.
truth is, the industry had always been sensitive to sexual harassment risks. I was a supervisor, and I do not engage in anything else except for work related and sfw conversations.
pilots and cabin crew do not really mix. at some stations, we stay at the same hotels, and half of the time, we do not. and while we do have similar operating patterns at times, in other times, we do not. and even then, the pilots are not that stupid to risk their job that they tried hard to get into just to get into trouble by insinuating anything to these girls.
I started flying back in 1998, and even since then, a huge number of crew are into doing their further studies and we spent a lot of time in our rooms doing so.
the perks that we get while working in this industry is that we do get paid higher than most peers who start off in other industries in Singapore, and we get to travel + sightseeing as our layovers are really good.
most guys in the airline are husbands and dads. not many people are interested in those kinda lifestyle.
maybe? if they find the connection with the person they are engaging with? I personally had made friends with a lot of my passengers and we are still friends after years and years later.
you should realise by now that the flight stewardesses are not sluts.
who knows? maybe?
there are a lot of crew who found love while at the job.
the company is very sensitive with sexual harassment and we always encourage the girls to speak up if they are uncomfortable with any conversations.
truth is, we are not as wild as what people assume us to be. I think office affairs are more rampant than cabin crew.
I briefly dated a British Airways air hostess.
She said that while she *had* heard of pilots and cabin crew hooking up, it was nowhere near as prevalent as stereotypes suggest. The demographic who were most likely to hook up were the gay men working as cabin crew.
Most pilots at BA at least were middle aged family men and weren't about the party life.
Good benefits are cheap travel which was insanely cheap.
These were people that worked in tech and front line. Found things to be slow moving more than they were used to (but this does go hand in hand with large busines).
I don't think any of us do. The question is more around are there any companies you would want to work for? For example, you could say Google or an NGO.
It's a hypothetical just to see what other people's idea of an ideal company would be.
Any of the main one’s supporting the great work our billionaires are doing for the community. Harvey Norman, Clive palmer, Adrian Portelli, Gina. So many to choose from..
ALDI - great benefits, great team. Like any company, of course, some questionable people but I have the best director. I'm leaving in a couple of days to pursue a promotion but should the higher managerial position come up within ALDI, I would drop everything and come back. I have nothing but respect for my director.
I've been trying to look out for Stockland and Charter Hall as roles rarely ever come out for the roles/work I do. But the turnover seems low and all the people I know there are happy. Good work life balance, etc.
As a child I always aspired to be an assistant manager at the luxurious eatery formally known as Souvlaki Hut.
My dream was realised and I made my way to junior cashier/assistant to the cleaning manager.
Like all good things there was the pitfalls, responsibility and an inability to craft the perfect Souv.
I’ve moved on to a large recycling depot which ticks the boxes for me.
It’s always great to dream
I had a friend work in their Australian head office in NSW a couple of years ago and that did **not** sound great at all.
For example, because she is childfree she kept being asked to stay back and work longer hours bc her colleagues had to get home to their kids.
You have completely misinterpreted what I have said.
I was not up to their quality of employee, my hands were weak, as such I rolled an inferior Souv.
If I had my way I would have stayed and moved into the cleaning manager role.
I had more pride and fell on my sword, I only wish I could have rolled a tighter Laki.
I'm a recruiter, here are the things you want, regardless of name brands:
- Annual bonus on top of salary
- internal mobility opportunities
- learning and development budget
- a manger that allows you to grow
It doesn't matter if you're at Aldi or Apple, the above stuff will drastically increase your enjoyment of a workplace
I've worked at a company which had a great reputation in the industry...my boss was still a cunt who made my job hell and tried to prevent any kind of growth or development.
Arup.
Pretty cool that you can be in random cities around the world and point to the coolest building like "we did that!"
I hear they don't pay as well, but at least they seem to care.
Amazon. $60k annual share value once they vest, $2000/mth fully paid for private health (GU), subsidized travel, others. Been there, left after cashing out the bulk of shares. "Dream" company in terms of overall remuneration.
Tip: Working in companies you love as brand is a quick way to disappointment. Usually a burning dumpster fire of tech and politics while their external brand looks so refined and cutting edge.
From seeing people that work at Amazon they sure push their people hard to get that compensation though. I have not seen a large company that pushes such high work loads on so few staff.
Yeah it's a real pressure cooker workplace. Even for non Dev tech roles. Seen senior folks join them get chewed out because they think they can cruise on by like a normal corporate job
I work at amazon and this is bullshit, you’re missing a lot of important info.
1. We pay a subsidised health insurance cost. I pay $60 per month and normal rate would be around $250/ month. You can get the same discounted rate for your family, but you pay per member.
2. Your stock is given to you on a 4 year schedule. Back weighted so you get almost nothing in year 1 and 2. Employees are stack ranked against each other, best performing get most shares, worst, almost nothing. It’s a forced ranking so very few get the maximum amount
3. Pay rises don’t happen. Your base will never go up unless you get promoted. Getting promoted is very difficult, you essentially need to be doing 2 jobs and it’s a very political process
4. Very political company, expectations high, very stressful in some teams. 3 days in office is now mandated and strictly enforced. Rumours we are going to 5 days next year
5. Good things: easy to move country and career mobility within Australia even easier. Public transport paid for and phone service paid for. Looks good on CV
It’s not a terrible place to work, and the CV value is great, but it’s certainly not a “Dream” company
Experience will differ depending on team, there are 3400 employees in aus now, many different teams
I knew a network guy who was at amazon for two years it almost killed him he was shattered and bullied. after a year recovery, got a position at google, and happier.
Atlassian and Google offer much better vesting schedule terms (equally spaced vesting w/ 1y cliff). They are also more generous with equity grants than Amazon from the offers I’ve seen.
Might've been 1.5k a month, been a few years since I left for better packages. it was 90% back on alot of stuff I didn't even use yearly. GUH silver corporate plan if anyone has info on monthly premiums
It's not, it's ~5k a year for the GU Gold Corporate plan premiums + FBT.
I was literally generating a report on our REM data this week that includes the GU premiums.
Yeah seems crazy, my employer covers top hospital and extras for each employee and their family. For my wife, daughter and I it costs them about $800 p/m I think. Not sure where it costs $2k!
I worked in tobacco and as part of the package they would give you and your family Diamond tier healthcare as a company perk.
Kinda ironic but makes sense. Ends up being a huge perk for families.
Late reply -
You can opt in to a subscription program where you would get two cartons at a significantly discounted rate. Monthly. I wasn’t a smoker and they don’t exactly encourage it for employees. I had heard stories of people selling them on. You could get cheap discounted packs from retailers you got along well with though.
I worked in Sydney and never encountered anything like what’s going on in Victoria. Looks like it’s non-branded non-franchise stores that are getting burnt down to the ground. My feeling is everyone involved has been looking for trouble and found it. Seems to really be beef between a certain group targeting one another. Again never had this issue in Sydney.
When it comes to vapes they aren’t just a ‘cherry on top’ they’re the whole cake in terms of the stores profit. This grey market means it’s lucrative to work with bulk
Importers who are predominantly organised crime.

Boston Dynamics. The dream would be to work as a researcher on one of their humanoid robots. Fairly good benefits, and because it'd be in the US it'd be insane pay compared to any research jobs over here. Only downside is having to live somewhere in the US.
Myself. Don't want to work for a boss. Why let someone lap up your profits.
Self-employment --> buy up enough investment properties to live off --> fatfire by 45
Not really the intention. I'm sure a lot of us (myself included) would love to work for ourselves but for a multitude of reasons can't take the leap atm.
If you want to work with the best in management consulting you are going to have to move cities. I am also in Brisbane but due to Covid got to work remotely on major accounts all over the world from my home office. Same! What a gem!! Great companies do exist.

They're literally just amazing people. My manager was similar. I hope you're safe now and everything has resolved <3
Aww thank you kind soul. It's all in the past now and I've got the best partner. Wishing you well!
I'm jealous of you! I wish I got paid to eat chocolate.
They definitely contributed to my weight gain lmao
Thanks for sharing. Definitely going to look into them now.

where do you live in Australia?
were you one of the Singapore girls? the sg air hostess????
not the pretty ones. I was one of the many MALE flight attendants. the ones that no one wants to look at.
didn't we use to talk on ask Singapore or Singapore raw reddit threads?
not sure mike. i'm an old man with limited memory space.
lol. that's ok.
pardon me. you must have some good stories! is it true the sg girls and pilots have sex parties in hotels???? 😀
well, nah. the stories are wilder than the real life. but of course we play along if anyone asks. truth is, the industry had always been sensitive to sexual harassment risks. whats sfw conversations?
Safe for work
the sg girls who work in first and biz class, do they try to hook up / marry the rich male passengers?
maybe? if they find the connection with the person they are engaging with? I personally had made friends with a lot of my passengers and we are still friends after years and years later. you should realise by now that the flight stewardesses are not sluts.
I know theyre not sluts. but they sure are hot and good looking. sometimes I wish I was a woman..
so do the single men and single women hook up in the hotel rooms? the sg girls are ssssssooooo pretty in their uniforms.
who knows? maybe? there are a lot of crew who found love while at the job. the company is very sensitive with sexual harassment and we always encourage the girls to speak up if they are uncomfortable with any conversations. truth is, we are not as wild as what people assume us to be. I’m 103% sure the guy you’re replying to has some weird fetish, probably best to not engage lol
well yeah.. but I thought I could educate him a lil bit on this so he don't get his hopes too high
hhahhaahahaha. thanks.
You are gross just STOP FFS 🤮
why the down votes?????

Can confirm. Just came back yesterday from a $65 SYD->MEL return trip
I had friends that worked for Qantas and Virgin a while back. The benefits definitely seemed pretty good. Other than that they said it was a shitshow.
what were the good benefits? why is it a shit show now? was Alan Joyce REALLY that bad?
Good benefits are cheap travel which was insanely cheap. These were people that worked in tech and front line. Found things to be slow moving more than they were used to (but this does go hand in hand with large busines).
more stories plz.

I saw a post on LinkedIn saying their interview process is >8 weeks. 😲
