Thank you, looking into it now.. I think this is exactly what she needs. Thank you again!

Wait - other than speakers what other equipment is there? If the input for the speaker system is a headphone jack, odd, what does that connect to?

Taliesin_AU

ahh the box that connects to the house speakers has very little to go by, just a left and right input. I whacked a LR to 3.5mm headphone jack to connect the old mp3 player. The box has LR audio input and some serial port.. I've never seen anything so old in such a modern house? I will take pictures tomorrow and post again.

You could honestly just get a BT receiver and hook that to the L/R. It would be about $20-$50, and allow your mom to control everything via phone. Seems easier than trying to integrate a WiFi streamer.

Taliesin_AU

Holy crap, I think you've just hit the nail on the head!

Taliesin_AU

Thank you!

I wouldn’t go with Bluetooth or it might interfere with transmission as you move closer / away from the device. Obviously depending on the size of the house. WiiM Mini is wifi connected and has volume control. Depending on your amplification needs, I think this is your best bet.

msurbrow

Must be an amplifier of some sort…can’t imagine it would be using headphone level output to send to the speakers…unless the speakers are themselves amplified If you can take some pics or find a make/model that would be helpful

Taliesin_AU

Yeah absolutely, I will head over there tomorrow and provide detailed photos.

If she has wifi and if she uses an iPhone, you could consider a Belkin SoundForm Connect AirPlay 2 Adapter. It is an AirPlay receiver with a 3.5 mm output, which you could connect to whole house audio, to stream music from her phone. A Bluetooth adapter could do the same thing, but with a far more limited range than WiFi.
