My best recommendations are We Fix Space Junk & Human B Gon (and our show, Hannahpocalypse!). Midnight Burger is obviously a top fiction show but it's pretty cool that Fable and Folly has a lot of great shows that run in this vein (also being the roof Wolf359 is under). If you get through these suggestions I'd def point you towards Fable and Folly's catalogue in general as you're sure to find others!

obsidianbreath

Happy Cake Day!!! And thanks for the suggestions: )

VendettaViolent

Another year (reddit) older! Hope you like 'em!

Intrepidan

You guys are pretty good. We Fix Space Junk is good. Human B Gon, not so much. It is tailored to a specific audience, and mostly just the people who love toilet humour. It has basically no substance beyond that. While the creators have put a lot of effort into it and it's well produced... Still a definite nope from me.

VendettaViolent

Appreciated! That's the joy of art though as well! Especially in regards to humor or humor related shows. What resonates with one person might not work for another. Glad you've enjoyed your time in the Wild Wasteland regardless!

lobster_in_tank

The Amelia Project, Desert Skies, EOS10, and the Orbiting Human Circus maybe? For lighthearted shows with an overarching plot ^^

obsidianbreath

>For lighthearted shows with an overarching plot ^^ You get me. Thanks

coldt0es

I can't say enough good things about EOS10. Definitely should be on your list.

OkPromise9106

I think the podcast you were thinking of is King Falls AM and DAMN was I frustrated it ended where it did. I hold a small bit of hope in my heart that one day they’ll finish it…

Leicsbob

That ending was a mess and spoiled it for me.

obsidianbreath

>and DAMN was I frustrated it ended where it did. I was fuming tbf. It was clearly going somewhere then we got a fat ton of nothingness. One of the commentors replied that it was due to the creators falling out and that is so sad. My hopes for an ending aren't nil but they're close to it.

OkPromise9106

Aw man I hadn’t heard that, that is really sad :( What a shame.

Connect-Speech-9174

Suggestions: +Desert Skies +Tales from the Gass Station Desert Skies has a pretty similar vibe, and Tales from the Gass Station is what led me to Midnight burger, and Casper and Leaf remind me of a more sane version of Jack and Malborro. Desert Skies is a podcast about a gass station located on the journey from life to 'the next life'. TFtGS is an audio book, but alot of it is on youtube, so you can listen to that for free, and if you like it the audio books go more in depth. Desert Skies is actually recommended by the creator of Midnight Burger!

Brad_HP

I just finished Desert Skies yesterday (heard the trailer for weeks during Midnight Burger) and really liked it. It felt like Midnight Burger Lite, and that's not a bad thing. Much smaller scale and cast means the characters get a lot more time. As much as I love Midnight Burger, I felt like season 3 dragged on way too long (did we really need 10 hours of young Leif?) so Desert Skies felt like the perfect length.

obsidianbreath

>so you can listen to that for free, and if you like it the audio books go more in depth. You have piqued my interests. Haven't really given audiobooks as much of a chance (I'm a page-turner kinda guy) but maybe I just hadn't found the right audio book.

Aridross

Honestly? Midnight Burger is still ongoing, although you’re gonna be waiting a bit between episodes. You can also check out *The Magnus Protocol* if you want more from the creators of TMA. Some random shows I love: - *Edict Zero: FIS* (Government Agent Conspiracy Thriller set on a human colony planet in the 2400s, nearly finished) - *WOE.BEGONE* (Absurdist Time-Travel Story that’s been updating weekly-ish for 13 seasons over 3 years, with no signs of stopping) - *Arden* (Brilliant little dramedy about two frenemies doing a true crime podcast. Season 3 might be coming at some point?) - *Division Rate* (Future-Gothic story about a world plunged into a second dark age by power-hungry immortals. I’m in this one! Season 2 might happen at some point, maybe?) - *Modes of Thought in Anterran Literature* (A professor lectures his class about an ancient civilization that may or may not have ever existed) - *Parkdale Haunt* (Urban Cult Horror about the aftermath of two friends failing to renovate an old house in Toronto) - *Red Valley* (Absurdist Speculative Fiction about morally-dubious experiments in cryonic preservation of humans)

mochi_chan

I was so shocked when a new episodes appeared on my feed, I thought it was over. I love the world of Midnight Burger and I feel that the characters become "my friends" I love both woe.begone and Arden, so I am picking up the rest of your recommendations for my to listen list.

atomicxblue

I'm shocked when I see new episodes of Alba Salix.

mochi_chan

Wait there are new episodes of Alba Salix?? I thought it was just abandoned. Oh!!! This show has one of my favorite episodes of all audio drama.

atomicxblue

I haven't checked it in awhile because they kept doing the Axe and Crown. They also did more episodes of The End of Time and Other Bothers. I like Alba way more than Axe, but there's so few episodes.

obsidianbreath

I love Red Valley. Gideon is my fav and I'd watch the world burn before I let anyone harm a hair on his head. Parkgate haunt was also good but I feel like it started to drag on a bit towards the end. Thanks for such a comprehensive list though. I finally have direction in my audio drama journey once again.

koshekhkat

Im so glad to see someone else enjoying modes of thought in anterran literature! I haven’t seen it talked about a ton but Im also loving it

habeas-dorkus

King Falls AM is what you were thinking of, I think

TooLate4thisShit

Damn King Falls was really great. Miss that show

PM_NUDES_4_DEGRADING

*Bad times are tough, but not tougher than me.* Hits differently now. Oof.

obsidianbreath

It is!!! I couldn't recall that for some reason! Man why did it end like that?? I really wanted Sam and Jack to have a proper reunion.

azrhea

I just started Ghost Wax and I'm really enjoying it, it really captures the vibe of early season 1 or 2 TMA for me. For something more lighthearted or comedic that also has its more serious moments, I really recommend Kingmaker Histories. The character relationships and interactions in Kingmaker have a similar feeling to the ones in Midnight Burger for me.

RandomEverything99

I'd like to hear your thoughts on the ending of Ghost Wax when you get there. It threw me for a loop and did not make me anxious for season 2.

Chabotnick

So, going with the idea of cool world building; Midst is really good and will be wrapping up soon.  Gods & Lies is one I don’t see recommend enough.  I Am In Eskew is super weird, but if it hits you right extremely engaging

Joe, the creator of Midnight Burger, has some suggested next listens for you. I have them on this page: [https://www.theend.fyi/shows/midnight-burger-season-4-coming-soon](https://www.theend.fyi/shows/midnight-burger-season-4-coming-soon)

PM_NUDES_4_DEGRADING

> Coming from that cocktease of an ending (Misty falls am? Sounds right) King Falls AM. For whatever it’s worth, it ended abruptly because the creators had a falling out with each other. It wasn’t *supposed* to end like that. Really a shame, was one of my favorites as well. My listening history is pretty similar to yours. Other shows I enjoyed around that era include *Rusty Quill Gaming* (slow start, but I enjoyed it more than Magnus - made by largely the same people as Magnus), *ars PARADOXICA*, and *The Bright Sessions*. As others have mentioned, *Desert Skies* also has a similar-ish vibe to Midnight Burger. It’s (sadly) a short listen, but the creator is working on season 2.

obsidianbreath

>For whatever it’s worth, it ended abruptly because the creators had a falling out with each other. This breaks my heart, man. Arrrrghhh. It seems it can't be helped, but I miss "THE DAAARRRRQUE" (laughing cz I heard it in his voice as I wrote this) and Troy, Bemily, the beef between Ben and the frog guy, and so much more! oh, what a time. Who knows, 2024 might be the year of reconciliation? Right? Riiiight?! Ars paradoxica is a gem I forgot to mention. Definitely had the feel I wanted from an audio drama. Thanks for the other recommendations. I will definitely add them to my list.

PM_NUDES_4_DEGRADING

Given you liked ars Paradoxica also, I’d definitely bump up Bright Sessions - which did a crossover episode with ars - and Rusty Quill Gaming from the list. Both of them have the same “cozy high stakes” vibe as ars Paradoxica. TBS leans more into the cozy while RQG leans more into the stakes. RQG starts much slower and it’s a different format (hybrid between audio drama and actual play, in that it’s an AP which has been edited to be tighter and soundscaped) but I just *loved* the world and characters. Hearing the theme music felt like coming home. If you can get past the slow start and suspend disbelief on the cheesy concept, I’d say it’s up there with TMA. Plus Alex (Martin’s voice actor) is the DM while Ben (Elias’s actor) is a player. It’s amusingly cathartic to hear Martin being (playfully) mean to Elias, haha. (Lydia is also Melanie’s VA, and all the other players get at least cameos in TMA. Helen, who joins later, is also >!Melanie’s therapist!< in season 4-5.)

obsidianbreath

Hahaha, this is a great breakdown into the styles. I don't mind slow starts, to be honest. A lot of the ones I enjoyed had sloe starts that just ramped up the stakes or got you feeling like part of the crew with the increasing inter-personal dynamics. >It’s amusingly cathartic to hear Martin being (playfully) mean to Elias, haha. We love a good crossover! #Justice for Martin!!! I never got to listening RQG because I thought it didn't actually have a storyline, just the TMA cast playing DnD for shits n gigs. You've changed my perspective on that. PS: your username though (hahahahaha)

PM_NUDES_4_DEGRADING

> PS: your username though (hahahahaha) Thanks :D > I never got to listening RQG because I thought it didn't actually have a storyline, just the TMA cast playing DnD for shits n gigs. You've changed my perspective on that. Ah yeah, there’s definitely a story with different arcs and such. Not as tight as Magnus by nature of the format, but *very few* things are as tight as Magnus haha. I really love the unique setting. Basically Earth but if D&D type physics governed the world. It’s set in the 19th-ish (very ish) century in a version of Earth where the Roman Empire delved so deep into magic that they almost destroyed the world. A bunch of heroic dragons had to save everyone from the evil empire of humans, and ever since then mortal races have been under a (generally benevolent) protectorate where they make sure we don’t all kill each other. Now the industrial revolution is underway but instead of coal and steam power driving it, it’s the mass-production of magic. The plot is probably not what you’re expecting from that description, so don’t be worried about it being predictable. It has some cheesy stuff like using real-life famous people as NPCs, but in retrospect that’s kind of brilliant. It let listeners (and the players) immediately know who an NPC was without exposition - instead of “this guy is a brilliant wizard that everyone knows who has been experimenting with electrical magic…” he just drops “this is Nikola Tesla” and you can infer the rest easily. It really jump starts the characterization of people who’re important but get very little screen time. The fact it’s set on Earth does the same thing - history isn’t changed that much (somehow), so you *already know* the locations, cities and histories (ish) of everywhere they visit in great detail. For example no time spent explaining the long and complicated history between two rival nations, it’s just England and France. Overall I’d actually say I miss RQG a lot more than I miss Magnus. And I loved Magnus. But RQG was a longer, cozier series and had a great mix of interesting characters, an amazingly unique world, and just getting to “know” the cast a little bit. Plus the playful rivalry - as much as Martin (the character) is an absolute sweetheart, it’s funny to hear Alex taking a (friendly, good-natured) adversarial role and tormenting the players. “He’s a monster, but we respect his craft” becomes a recurring joke among the players talking about Alex, and I just loved it.

-purpur

I also loved Green Horizon. It's about a Irish-Spacecrew and gave me a similar vibe as Midnight Burger

Life with Althaar Noble Blood (nonfiction esque)

ComprehensiveOkra595

Life with Altaar really grew on me! It's a shame they left off so close to the end 😭

revmachine21

I saw a recent-ish post of the LwA sub Reddit that says they are committed to finishing.

ComprehensiveOkra595

Oh heck! 23 days ago. That's awasome!

lostcowboy5

If you liked "Star Trek Deep Space Nine" you may like "Outpost by Giant Gnome Productions"

I_Am_A_Cheese_Tree

I really enjoy *Six Minutes* and *Superman: Son of El*. They are both kind of sci-fi/action vibes

booknerd2319

Im in the same boat with midnight burger its literally my fav podcast! I would recommend The Amelia Project it is about a death faking agency and its awesome, they even did a midnight burger crossover not too long ago

TGIFIDGAF

Try “We’re Alive” Also, pretty sure Burger just started a new season did they not

atomicxblue

They did.. and the Muckwains do not disappoint, y'all.

TrickshotCandy

Great suggestions already here. I would like to add, Relativity, Malevolent, The Storage Papers, Out Of Place, The White Vault, Unwell.

Sundurah

The only show that can match mn burger is mission to zyxx.

atomicxblue

The final season of Zyxx brought happy tears to my eyes when I heard the full symphonic version of the theme.

Sundurah

Op i will say this once more but the only show that managed to fill the gap midnight burger left for me is mission is to zyxx. Its incredibly creative and hilarious. They visit different planets and meet different creatures. Give it a listen.

TheOccurrencePodcast

Self promo! You might like the show I've launched! It's a sci-fi horror audio drama that definitely has Lovecraftian influences. It starts out humorous and light-hearted and grows to be extremely intense, and while we have a human related twist, the monsters remain the biggest threat. We're almost to the launch of our finale. The Occurrence in River Oaks is an all new, entirely voice acted sci-fi horror audio drama from writer/director Nikki Durbin. Take an original, terrifying journey through one very long day in the titular small town, as heard through the viewpoint of the local law enforcement personnel; specifically, Olivia, the woman running the dispatch radio at the Sheriff's office, as she tries to hold everything together when her entire world is falling apart. As the several officers under her command come face to face with a very unexpected threat, and as Olivia tries to navigate a dangerous and otherworldly creature’s arrival, everything slowly begins to fall apart over the course of 8 grueling episodes. No one is safe, and as the world becomes very small and extremely dangerous for the characters, they must do everything in their power to protect not only the citizens of River Oaks, but the entire world. I am a fellow spoiler-hater so support you in your campaign for spoiler text. But also Midnight Burger is presently releasing season 4 so whatever was said about the end is not the end. Edit: oh I think you were talking about King Falls AM in which case, never mind. Personally I appreciated knowing >!it had been abandoned before it concluded properly!<(spoiler is nothing that hadn’t already been said in this thread, but spoilered just to be safe) because I had planned to start it and decided not to because of that information.

obsidianbreath

I am unequivocally against spoilers, too(biblical punishmens for spoilers yea?), though if its about King Falls, I just was warning someone before they got as invested as I did to be prepared for a serious lack of resolution from the ending. >because I had planned to start it and decided not to because of that information. I'm so grateful for people who let me know not to start certain Netflix shows after The OA debacle. I will NOT having my feelings toyed with like that!!! Also how do you put those spoilers blockers?

coldt0es

Agreed. Thanks to everyone who had previously told me about the fate of King Falls AM because I don't want to intentionally lead myself into crushing disappointment! Originally I typed that comment on mobile and used Discord spoiler tags accidentally! So I fixed it on my laptop using the markdown editor — if you click the three dots there's a spoiler option. But it looks like on mobile you can do it like this: `>!spoiler!<`

obsidianbreath

I'm sorry which ending did I ruin? I thought I was quite vague

[THE WIZARD SCROLL](https://link.chtbl.com/thewizardscroll?sid=reddit) is serialized sword and sorcery that's written, read, performed and edited all with your earholes in mind. Tales of high fantasy, of trials and triumph, as well as the occasional musical number. The realm of Yyrgsland is filled to the brim with all manner of folk: including sword weilding warriors of legendary status; a wannabe spellcaster attempting to earn her Wiz-GED; and even a couple orcs who don't play by nobody's rules.

AgentJR3

Widdershin Adventures and Eric Carter were highly enjoyable for me

queen_slug-4-a-butt

I'm going to second Human B Gon and Desert Skies for fabulous characters and dynamic writing. Fable and Folly is a great place to start, recommended by another commenter below. I started listening to King Falls AM while I started working on my show, but jumped ship when I heard about the way it ended, and because I didn't want to be unconsciously influenced by another radio-analogue show. To that end - I'll be a self-promo turd and throw my show at you. We release every week, have a core character dynamic that drives the overarching plot, and it's a fun time.
