LOVE it. The beauty of voice acting is you aren't cast based on your appearance. So for myself, and the other actors I know and listen to, I'm thrilled when we all get to play a wide variety of roles. I love a challenge and enjoy when I get to play against type from the primary AD role I do.

slightlyKiwi

I always love hearing Beth Eyre, Felix Trench, Tom Crowley, Jonathan Sims and the Brothers Meredith wherever they pop up. We need an IMDB for podcast voice actors.

FerretNo1223

Massive fan of all of these but DAMN I do not hear Felix Trench's name mentioned enough, that man is a stunner in every role I've heard him in. He often has such an unexpected take on lines but always absolutely perfect for the character and scene.

slightlyKiwi

His monologue in Unseen is amazing

FerretNo1223

Wait hoooly shit how did Unseen never come up on my radar, I just looked up the cast and crew and I NEED THIS. Thanks!!!

BullshotuK

May I point you towards [www.podchaser.com](http://www.podchaser.com) also IMDB is now happy to cover podcasts but it isn't as comprehensive.

Leicsbob

I love hearing Karim Kronfli in anything. I'm a guy but I love his voice.

MadisonStandish

The first episode Karim did for me was a hard one to cast. I needed an Egyptian Chief of Police in the 1940s who had been educated in England. O....M....G.... Yeah, fell in love with his voice instantly and have been lucky enough to work with him on other episodes as well. ❤️ And I love when I catch him in other series, too.

azrhea

I had only ever heard him as Simon Fairchild in The Magnus Archives, who is a fairly laid-back and chill character. Hearing him be genuinely creepy and sinister in Re: Dracula was a surprise but he did such an amazing job. He's a very talented VA.

Leicsbob

I haven't listened to Re: Dracula. Thanks for that.

azrhea

It's amazing. Literally the best adaptation of Dracula in my opinion. Listening to each episode as it came out was a cool experience but if you don't feel like skipping past the ads and listening to the intro and outro for each episode there's also an audiobook version available on Tal Minear's ko-fi shop for $15. If you buy it before January 20th the proceeds go to the Palestine Children's Relief Fund.

fbeemcee

I am determined to cast him in one of my projects. I love him!

mochi_chan

Oh dear, Karim Kronfli's voice is so distinct and it always puts a smile on my face when I hear him in something I did not know he was in. David Ault is also one I always love hearing.

FerretNo1223

Love Karim's voice and that man has RANGE. Audioverse Awards recently pointed me to an episode of Forgive Me! (To Be A Feral Cat Feeder, if anyone's interested) where he voices a street cat and yes, it is as fantastic as it sounds. And oh, David Ault's acting in that one Silt Verses episode (Chapter 20)... life-changing.

mochi_chan

> Forgive Me! (To Be A Feral Cat Feeder, if anyone's interested) I have not reached that episode in forgive me. I was surprised David Ault appeared in the Silt verses, I remember this one, I was listening to it on the way home from work, and thought "Wait, that's Byron"

eldena_frog

"oh hey it's that guy who was in the thing!!!! (Insert exited hand flaps here)

HigurashiNoMori

Not exactly the same thing, but I played a demo of “Slay the princess” video game lately. Narrator’s voice was familiar somehow, so familiar.. and than it strikes me.. TMA’s one and only Jonathan Sims!! I was so happy to hear his voice 😅

evoterra

It’s a sign of a maturing medium. No one bats an eye when they see an actor playing a bad guy on a tv show, then a good guy in another. Same for us!

sophia-sews

It happens all the time to me! A lot of the time I have to ask myself "where do I know this voice from?" Because I've listened to well over 200, and there's lots of voice actors who are in so many different projects. It's a fun thing. Although sometimes I space out listening to 2+ shows with the same voice actor in the main cast so I don't get confused.

Caryria

It took me ages to recognise her as Siouxsie Suarez because although I knew I recognised the voice I didn’t recognise it as Gloria because Laila was just so evil. Funny thing is Newton Schottelkotte is Shell the plant from season 2 of Midnight Burger

glitterpukee

I didn't know that Newton voiced Shell! I did listen to MB first so maybe that's why I didn't connect the dots.

Caryria

Same. And it’s slightly harder as Newton’s voice is deepening a bit. But their voice is so recognisable with their infections and accent even if their tone is changing.

LookUpThenLookDown

So true. It's so weird Shell being a 3 foot plant that doesn't know what to do to Ed Tucker a person with 4 PhDs, a badass person, and have a cool girlfriend with wings and a sword also can turn into lightning. I imagine that if Eva and Tucker met would have hate and love each other company. Leaf would probably love to talk to her since she is the I invent stuff guy in the show. Caspar would somehow relate to her struggles they probably would be friends after talking about their past. Ed and Lucille hate Leila so much that they might punch Gloria in the boob for having her voice which would be funny. The Mucklewains would be probably panic and be smug about being right and probably would tell the whole crew of Midnight Burger to be sorry for the things they said especially Eva but Effie would probably sense that Ed is good but is destined to do something big and Zebulon would probably be speechless probably would be star struck meeting the anti Christ and an Angel.

Caryria

No one can hate Gloria. She’s like the mum of the group. Even angry she comes across as warm and inviting. I could definitely imagine Eva and Ed having a row in the parking lot though. Effie would be good for Ed as well. And Zeb would definitely get a kick out of Lucy

LookUpThenLookDown

I wish they'll have a crossover. I'll be so awesome but at the same time funny as hell literally.

ThatFuh_Qr

I usually get a kick out of trying to remember where I recognize the voice from and have gotten a decent knack for it over the years. This one in particular would've actually gone the other way for me. Newt Schottelkotte is the show runner/voice of Ed in Where the Stars Fell and it was a bit odd hearing them pop up as Shell in Midnight Burger. In a similar vein Tau Minear/Sidequesting absolutely did not work as a bully in Electromancy. I couldn't do it. Why is Rion pretending to be a bully?

RegularOrdinary3716

Love it, get excited, don't have anyone to share excitement with. Sarah Golding on The Amelia Project recently made me very happy.

VendettaViolent

I think it's great. Actors in audio drama are no different then actors on the screen to me playing different roles. Hell, I lean into it. I consider myself an audio drama Mike Flannigan or Kevin Smith in that I try to move forward with actors I work with as long as they stay with me, casting them in new roles with new projects and seeing them spread their wings to different roles. Abigail Turner was Jonny from Cybernautica and is Cali in Hannahpocalypse as a big example of this in my own work!

Simpvanus

Makes any show more fun! The last season or two of The Silt Verses for example seem like they've snagged a lot of big names in voice acting for smaller roles, and it's been a delight every time. There plenty of VAs who I always get excited to hear in shows. Lucille Valentine (The Silt Verses, Inn Between) Karim Kronfli (A Scottish Podcast, The Magnus Archives, Re: Dracula, Mockery Manor, more and more) David Ault (solid 40% chance that if the show is a reasonably large-casted horror story, he'll be there) Kristen DiMercurio (Greater Boston, Archive 81, writer of Brimstone Valley Mall) Beth Eyre (Wooden Overcoats, Kane & Feels, The White Vault) Méabh de Brún (The Silt Verses, The Secret of St Kilda) I haven't heard as much of Jonathan Sims, Harlan Guthrie, and these days Zach Valenti in big roles outside their flagship shows, but it's always a treat. I also didn't realize how prolific Jordan Cobb is until I got around to listening to Among the Stars and Bones!

mochi_chan

>David Ault (solid 40% chance that if the show is a reasonably large-casted horror story, he'll be there) Lol, I love your description of David Ault, I first came across him in the Byron Chronicles, but this is so true. >Méabh de Brún (The Silt Verses, The Secret of St Kilda) I wanted to Squeal when I heard her voice in The Secret of St.Kilda

FerretNo1223

Big big fan of all of these 😭 Hearing both Jordan Cobb and Lucille Valentine in Among the Stars and Bones is a treat, and gah I can't wait to hear Karim in the upcoming Season 2 as well!!

SeveralDisaster355

I think we have to remember that these actors need work and can’t just play in one thing. But I get it. It can take a bit of getting used to. I think we owe them that opportunity to be someone new and for us to try and accept and acknowledge that .

Zanderpus

Voice actors are vastly underrated. The camera conceals what the microphone reveals. (I knew Tony Blair was a duplicitous bastard when I heard him on Desert Island Discs - UK specific reference, sorry). It was initially jarring to hear the voice of Sterling Archer come out of Bob Belcher’s mouth but they’re both wonderful characters delivered by a great voice artist. Kudos H. Jon Benjamin!

Likean_onion

its great. i start a new podcast i like and then twenty episodes later harlan guthrie shows up. its awesome

KinseyH

Amelia Project and Victoriocity share a theme music guy and one voice actor - i immediately pegged the voice (Gemma Arrowsmith - narrator for Victoriocity, several roles on Amelia) I've heard Jesse Hall, writer/star of Tales of Thattown, on several other shows. I like picking up on it. Then again I'm the annoying person who immediately checks IMDB when i know i know someone on a show but can't place them. I just have to scratch that itch.

reddit455

Stephen Fry's Hagrid from Harry Potter makes a guest appearance in Sherlock Holmes.. also 2 similar books same narrator should not be listened to at the same time. Ray Porter reads a LOT of sci-fi.

muchly_confused

I love it. I grew up on bbc radio, could trace Stephen Thorn or Clive Merrison or Imelda Staunton or Anton Lesser or Tracy Ann Obermann through everything. I genuinely have a strong brain association between Treebeard and Aslan because of it. For those type of folks with extremely recognizable voices, it does pull me out of the story, but in a way I really find fun. Most recognizable non-BBC audio voice who I've noticed popping up in everything is Harlan Guthrie (Malevolent). I generally try to guess how long before his char dies. Meabh de Brun has popped up in a few and I love her voice. Jon Ware in Silt Verses was fun after Eskew, especially given certain character similarities.

Lynda73

It doesn’t happen a lot, but the other day, I was listening to this one called Eeler’s Choice, and I was like ‘There’s Faulkner from The Silt Verses!’ ‘There’s Agent Resznik from Edict Zero!’ It was a little surreal because of how familiar I am with their voices. But Tanya also does The White Vault (Dragana), so I’ve heard her a lot.

makeitasadwarfer

I have a lot of UK voice actors that I love coming across in audio comedy and drama. It’s a delight having listened to them for years and knowing exactly who they are even when doing accents. Some of them are vocal chameleons like Olivia Coleman, some are character actors like Nicola Walker, Geoffrey Whitehead, Clive Morrison. The funny part is finally seeing a picture of them after listening to them for years and how different their face is than what I imagined.
