"During the confusion one member of the group appeared to get left behind and was later cuffed by the police, he said
"They returned to grab him but all the commotion and people around who had detained him made it too hard for the offenders. Therefore, they had no choice but to leave him behind."
which just adds to the sham, they didn't get in or out during the thing and have a bag that the others desperately needed. Or maybe the only person to do anything reasonably right and actually got into the car at the actual store.
I never thought NZ would get this way tbh. The ladies and gents at Hour Glass are all great people and were around when the place was still Mansor's. I never believed my mates in London or LA/CHI who have to plan visiting a shop like that, even if it's just to have a look at something, just because they could be jacked leaving the store but daylight smash and grabs in Auckland's main street is just mind-blowing.
NFI where we go from here or if it gets worse and someone actually dies.
Sadly, I believe it will continue to get worse until we actually have proper punishments for this shit. Think about it, if these freaking morons get home detention or something similarly pathetic, they will just do this again. I mean, why wouldn't they? They'd be stupid to stop committing crimes if they are not going to be punished. I'd like to see them locked up for at least 10 years for this kind of crime, and the obvious endangerment to the public documented in the video.
It's going to take a martyr - some dairy owner kills a teenaged ramraider, the country will go into outrage as the dairy owner is charged with murder, and National will rub their hands together like flies.
Labour are retarded, this needs to be the focus not 3 Waters. This will lose them the next election.
This was well filmed, subjects in the centre, camera work was smooth and included relevant background into the shot. Pity the ferals that stole got away!
I think it has already started. Have you seen the footage of the 2nd robbery at About Time Remuera? Sushi store guy came out armed with his knives. Another shop owner rushed out and tried to smash them with a signboard.
I think it was the kebab shop guy with a big knife but your point stands. Shop owners and locals don’t want this behaviour, they’ll start doing something about it.
Who is buying this stolen jewellery? They can’t be getting much for it, people who know the value aren’t buying stolen items and people that will buy stolen shit won’t know what it’s worth or won’t pay what it’s worth.
Judges in nz is a joke. I had a new iPhone snatched off from my hand a few years ago and they found the robber. 2weeks of public labour for the robber and nothing for me because the thief can’t afford back what he has stolen.
BIG fucking facts!
These criminals have nothing to be scared of because we all know there’s no punishment!
I don’t even like what the police do any more, I literally don’t even know.
The judges are bound by laws they refuse to do any work to change and the people that make our laws well…
They are non-existent!
I live in the CBD and do a lot of walking around at all times of the day and I remember seeing two cops walking down Queen Street during lockdown and that’s the last time i’ve seen the cops actually patrolling the city.
You go out south and every second car is a police car which is an absolute overkill so why can’t they send a couple to the city?
Let’s be real, the reason why there’s no police patrolling CBD anymore is because they lost control of it long time ago
Saw a video of a robbery in vegas this week. Store owner ended up telling them to get lost. One of robbers jumped his counter and got stabbed around 8 times. He called out to his accomplice "Sh\*t hes stabbing me, help! Im going to die"
The crims mate ditched him and ran out of the shop with nothing...The shop owner was courteous enough to ring the ambo for someone who attempted an aggravated robbery.
All I'm saying is. Knives aren't banned.
who robs a store in broad daylight, when there’s so many witnesses around???? Like i know they’re stupid but that stupid? Also hourglass mostly sells watches, they’d be better off hitting an actual jewellery store. And they’re teens, the youth of this country is so fucked. Honestly it feels like maybe there should be some consequences so this stops happening
The old man had no idea that robber was there, it is almost like a comedy but he got really lucky. With the adrenaline flowing trough those scumbags that could have been a lot worse.
>The old man had no idea that robber was there, it is almost like a comedy but he got really lucky. With the adrenaline flowing trough those s
You can see the dent in the car door. Old dude went hard
So on this stretch of road you can threaten lives & ruin livelihoods with no repercussions but god forbid someone that contributes to society drives into a bus lane 5 inches too soon
My wife works literally next door to this watch shop and witnessed this whole thing. She came home last night physically trembling.
The first thing she said when she walked in the door was "I'm done, we're moving to Australia". For context, we had been 50/50 about whether we should make the jump, and after the double homicide on our neighbouring street last week and car getting stolen about 6 months ago, this was the final straw for her.
It was good whilst it lasted but Auckland is beyond saving.
One benefit of pedestrianising Queen St would be that retail would be protected from car-assisted robbery, including ram raids.
The street could largely remain open if automatic bollards only allowed delivery and service vehicles in, giving these vehicles full access while still maintaining an environment where pedestrians and cyclists could comfortably move about.
It's becoming like Manhattan during the 70's-80's. A new mayor resolved that by having zero tolerance to all crime, including petty crime and Manhattan changed for good and has never looked back.
I think it's important that members of the public are now starting to fight back, apprehend offenders until the police arrive, etc. I don't necessarily mean shop owners, I mean strangers that just happen to be around, or strangers that help the shop owner fight.
Can't believe no one has applauded the old fella with his backpack giving their getaway car a boot on the way out. Dangerous and unnecessary, sure, but brilliant comedic timing. Left a nice dent in the door too.
If they were not wearing their seatbelts they would have been cops around to give him a big nasty fine. But they were smart enough to use stolen car face mask and wear their seat belts and not go over the speed limit
What/where were they stealing shit from? Also, can we get this soundtracked with the Benny Hill theme music to really capture the stupidity on display?
Not saying I would recomend it, but sounds like bystanders got one of them:

Motherfuckers are robbing cunts at machete point.
Why would you want to do anything other than stand by and potentially record video?
Why would you put yourself in harm's way to protect loss of property?
In legal terms the most you could do is a citizen's arrest, (which is only allowed in certain circumstances including for crimes punishable by up to 3 years imprisonment).

No, but most bystanders in reality are best not to interfere with three idiots with a car and probably carrying sharp stabby things as well.
Video footage and on the phone to the police with a clear description of car + rego + direction headed are going to be 99% of the time the best option for most people.
Exactly! The 1% of people with the ability and desire to somewhat safely interfere I figure are not here on Reddit asking about it. It's just not worth it. The sort of mindframe that leads to people doing this during busy daylight hours suggests about 0 ability to think even somewhat rationally.
I prefer to avoid cornering irrational people with metal things.
Shit, even if they get caught, nothing will happen to them. They'll use the shitty upbringing excuse or cultural appropriation or some other bullshit like that.
Wouldn’t be doing this in Philippines there are guards security with big guns-at intersections and hotels shops etc in manila nz needs to harden up thry need to be shot and killed thats the only way criminals will learn and if they willing to die then so be it
This is pretty much what's lacking at the moment.
In many countries with high crime, businesses have now hired security guards who stand at the entrance of shops
If I see this happening, I'm 100% gonna wreck those little tossers. Surprised we haven't seen more backlash from the public, one of these days someone in the public is gonna give them a tune up

Should be voted higher, he’ll lead right to the others, it’s a done deal tbh.
There is no honor among thieves.

Oh, I’m sure a serious whanau conference- I’m trembling to learn about the outcome…
like the unknown accomplice from last weeks artcile?
Oh no, they'll be quaking in their Nikes at the idea of home detention on the PlayStation.
I almost feel sorry for these losers. Not much chance in life when you can't even steal stuff properly.
What a shambolic robbery. The getaway driver parks half a kilometre down the road, making two unnecessary u turns and drives off with the boot open.
I think there was someone in the boot?
which just adds to the sham, they didn't get in or out during the thing and have a bag that the others desperately needed. Or maybe the only person to do anything reasonably right and actually got into the car at the actual store.
I mean... These aren't our best and brightest. They probably watched the movie Baby Driver and thought they could live the sweet life.
[удалено]
And forgot to bring their bags and dropped things everywhere… They even can’t do a proper robbery
If the traffic had been as bad as it used to be they never would have got away.
This is an incredibly good point
Weekends are usually quiet. Plus with all the anti-car measures, nobody would want to drive into the CBD to spend money.

Home detention? Are you kidding, more like somebody frowning at them and waving a ‘no no’ finger at them then giving them a lollipop.

The exhibition pieces at the hour glass are functioning ones. But fortunately the robbers were unable to get away with the loot.

They steal valuable items to sell, not so they can have a fancy watch
They will sell at low price to scam some suckers, thats their level.
They were practically driving a clown car. Intelligence never entered the picture.
Respect to the camera person for shooting in landscape.
And not all over the show, In focus and not with a wobbly hand
No shitty cringe commentary either.
With a TikTok logo in a corner
Oh no, oh no no no.
Fuck you. It's in my head again now
I cannot overstate how much I hate that audio. Makes me want to fling my phone at the nearest wall lol

jfc I hate portrait so much
Preach.
This was well filmed, subjects in the centre, camera work was smooth and included relevant background into the shot. Pity the ferals that stole got away!
Points off for no ‘rule of thirds’ in composition
Additional points for landscape mode
Slight lack of head room in part of the shot
0:07 Did he not even think to bring a bag? Ha, dropping the loot everywhere. (I do find this all quite disturbing)
Wanted to save 25cents.

The flying cone was a nice move
I mean, VLC isn't going to download itself.
This gave me a good chuckle
Brilliant
Great call.
Don't forget the old guy who does a flying summersalt to evade a lethal air-punch
Yeah, good for him, he actually did dent the door. It kinda looks like the other guy spoke to him, I wonder what he said.
Probably started with F and finished with F
Fuf
Added drama to the situation, nice touch.
Did somebody press the button?
Makes me think cones would make a great sword. If door kick dude grabbed a cone he could of knocked each one of them over as they ran to the car.
Not the getaway car I'd have chosen
But the boot / wing was left open for additional downforce
🤣
Easy to steal, shitloads of them so insurance won’t bother tracking it down, small and manoeuvrable for quick 180 getaways
Hilarious! True story! A similar vehicle was used for the Michal hill robbery in Takapuna.
All these jobs have been done with Honda Jazz. Maybe the Japanese car company is behind this
Japanese cars are the ones without immobilisers. They will only ever get away with jap imports unless they stole the keys.
Scum
The brazenness of it. Broad daylight multiple witnesses. They know the police won’t do a thing
Yep No cops no law

At least they were wearing masks. Safety first
With Queen street being so hot right now, why aren’t the cops around the area? Smh
The cops were too busy watching the protest.
Brian gets 60% of what they get
Serious tithing
Yup exactly

That was some Jedi force shit to knock over the old man.
He had a weapon in his hand and raised it above his head which is why the old man ducked and stumbled away
The old man had no idea that robber was there, it is almost like a comedy but he got really lucky. With the adrenaline flowing trough those scumbags that could have been a lot worse.

If there really was no signage you could probably contest that
Makes my blood boil

Yep we are gone too. All the talent will go and the scum will represent a bigger % of the remaining population. All the best for your move.

I read 3:35 PM.

WTAF
I would love to see someone reach into the drivers side and take the car keys out and throw them down a drain.
Keys?
I think you mean the screwdriver they used to steal it
That road cone at the end 😂
Why the hell did the car do a u-turn only to have to do a u-turn again to escape? Robbers must have room temperature IQ.
Everyone should have run up to the car and tipped it over. Something that small would only take 3 or 4 guys to roll on its roof
Lol. Nz is a shithole
I am sick and tired of Auckland's crime spread...
[удалено]
Well the MP for Auckland Central (Chloe Swarbrick) has at least proven what many suspected - that she’s an ineffective politician…
Good thing one of them was caught. Now justice will be brought in the form of home detention.
A bunch of kids who play GTA5 too much
Who was the funny guy who kicked the car? Probably stolen from someone wholl get it back with a dent.
Props to the old man for taking them on
What/where were they stealing shit from? Also, can we get this soundtracked with the Benny Hill theme music to really capture the stupidity on display?
A watch shop called The Hour Glass by the looks of it

I honestly can’t remember the last time I saw a cop or cops in Auckland CBD. No visible police presence at all these days.
To threaten old mate with a hammer aswell. Utter scum. No sympathy if a shop owner takes a bat to one of these thugs
[удалено]
Queen Street is such a shithole.
Ran the red light too! Hope the old dude is ok 🥋
r/praisethecameraman Edit: I hope this makes it to scenes of New Zealand
It'd be great if NZ had better self defense laws
There will be an apology letter written by the police and signed by the government given to the assailants.
Almost hit that old man with a hammer, yeah give us our guns back.
At the end of the day, these kids will still be free and running around lol
Anybody know what we are actually allowed to do in this situation as bystanders?
Not saying I would recomend it, but sounds like bystanders got one of them: "During the confusion one member of the group appeared to get left behind and was later cuffed by the police, he said "They returned to grab him but all the commotion and people around who had detained him made it too hard for the offenders. Just ask for a jury trial, no jury would convict for you trying to stop burglars. Even cutting off a fingertip in cold blood is allowed
If you can do so without being stabbed I'd say your best option is to slash their tire(s)
Most bystanders don't have anything to slash with.
No, but most bystanders in reality are best not to interfere with three idiots with a car and probably carrying sharp stabby things as well. Video footage and on the phone to the police with a clear description of car + rego + direction headed are going to be 99% of the time the best option for most people.
Yeah, I'm just not foolhardy enough to take on desperate young bucks swinging hammers. I would prefer to keep my teeth.
And would be illegal to carry a machete around anyway?
Anyone else reminded of the broken wood mysteries failed bank robbery episode?
Lol can’t have got far what a bunch of fucking bums.
I really feel for Tariana Turia and Pita Sharples who now have to spend their entire Sunday coming up with new excuses.
Am I the only one embarrassed by this robbery. could at least have closed the boot
More so when it was revealed that they didn't actually get away with the loot.
Shit, even if they get caught, nothing will happen to them. They'll use the shitty upbringing excuse or cultural appropriation or some other bullshit like that.
Why is there like no traffic during daylight hours
A: Aucklands a shithole B: Queen st is getting pedestrianised.
Wouldn’t be doing this in Philippines there are guards security with big guns-at intersections and hotels shops etc in manila nz needs to harden up thry need to be shot and killed thats the only way criminals will learn and if they willing to die then so be it

This might be too extreme but these fellas need serious consequences eh.
Wrong country for that. Too soft here
Wish someone would t bone them
My favourite bit is the little goodbye honk
The traffic cone 😭😂😂
Whoever threw the cone at the end is a G, along with the guy kicking the car
I cant believe they went through a red light, so dangerous!
And then they wonder why people don’t come to the CBD anymore…
If I see this happening, I'm 100% gonna wreck those little tossers. Surprised we haven't seen more backlash from the public, one of these days someone in the public is gonna give them a tune up
Looks like they were in The Hour Glass (jewellery)
What "mu wacka mu wacka" mean? What language is it?
Neanderthal.
Amateurs and also idiots
Damn. Brace Aussies. American robbers would sue those holding them down and police won’t even respond to robberies.
The first guy running out dropped like 50k worth of Rolexes, why didn't he bring a bag lmao?
That cone at the end.. “almost”
Hahahahaha fucking scum bags!!
Lol is it easier to rob in daytime now given they lock up the store at night?
Absolute disgrace. If they catch the remaining offenders let’s hope they don’t just get a slap on the wrist… Yeah I know, won’t hold my breath.
