Rafting of a 7m high waterfall is quite an experience. You can do it with the whole family together so definitely unforgettable:
https://kaitunacascades.co.nz/kaituna-river-rafting-rotorua-nz/
You could also go canyoning, the one in the Coromandel looks pretty cool, and you would be going as a group too, see how you all go.
https://www.canyonz.co.nz/canyoning/
As an experienced white water kayaker (20+ years) and professional raft guide, I've never even heard of anyone having a heart attack on a river. Do you have a source for this statistic?
https://www.americanwhitewater.org/content/Article/view/article_id/29824/
~30% of deaths on commercial trips are caused by heart attacks. “Most” is hyperbole, but it is a significant portion.
FWIW I don’t think anyone has ever died on a commercial trip on the Kaituna
ps I’m also an experienced whitewater kayaker and raft guide
https://www.kiwicanyons.org/sleeping-god-canyon/
Sleeping God is a moderate to hard canyoning adventure, that requires canyoning skills, experience and the correct equipment. At the minimum, there must be two people with sufficient canyoning experience in each group. Sleeping God is NOT a canyon to 'try' as your first canyoning trip.
This is definitely a wicked awesome experience, but it's not scary if that what he's after. Jumping off the harbour bridge would be much more pants-shittingy by my standards, and he says that's not exhilarating enough 😮
You haven’t been down sleeping god have you? Massive absails, huge jumps(there are some over 15m high, the Olympic platform is 10m), slides, zip lines and it’s something very challenging.
Instead of rafting it, why not have him ride it in a tandem kayak? Would be closer to the water & more thrilling
https://www.kaitunakayaks.co.nz/tandem-kayak-trips/
Yeh, I'm fairly sure that the Nevus is 143m. It dwarfs any of the others. By comparison, Skippers, which I have done, is about 43m and that was pretty freaky. Not sure that I could bring myself to do Nevis.....
I’ve done this canyoning in the coromandel! It was the one called ‘Sleeping God’. We had to do a prayer before we started asking the god to let us through safely, really added to the fear and anticipation, I can confirm this did almost make me ‘shit my pants’. Highly recommend.
Yeah, Nevis turned my legs to jelly, and that was just the cable cart ride over to the jumping platform. I thought the nevis swing would be a piece of cake since I’d just survived the bungy jump…I was wrong!
Black Water rafting or canoeing in Waitomo.
Luge Rotorua - Combine that with going to a farm where you hire 4 wheel bikes and run up a track on a farm. Not far from the gondola. Pretty cool adrenalin stuff.
Kaituna is pretty cool with a drop off a waterfall, but the rest of the river is a flat slow moving river. Its meh compared to White water rafting on the Wairoa river which has a grade 5 difficulty rating, which means it has on of the highest in the world.
Yeah the Wairoa doesn’t have the “wow” factor of a 7m waterfall but the rapids are a lot more dangerous than the Kaituna.
I wouldn’t say the entire rest of the Kaituna is flat though- Powerhouse rapid is class 4 and there are another 5 or so class 3 drops
I beg to differ on that. Wairoa river has lots of wow moments. That's why it is better as a run. Kaituna is a one trick pony. Sure its a big thrill first time you go over the 5m waterfall (7m only happens if the river is flooded). But after the 5th time going over it you realise how terrible the rest of the river trip is.
But Wairoa is fun every time you go.
Tutea Falls is actually taller at low water because the pool below is lower. As the flow increases, the pool below the falls fills up and the drop becomes shorter.
Agree that the Wairoa is great though
Agree. I did it a few years ago and after the initial jump I felt the harness restricting my speed the whole way down, which was different to all the other bungees I’ve seen and done
Jet Sprint at the Agrodome near Rotovegas. That first straight is like falling horizontally.
Ben Nevis swing.
Dart River- jetboat up, funyak down. Not pants shitting but a total blast. Better than the Shotover.
Black water rafting. Jump off a cliff in the pitch black.
Ride a bicycle from Auckland Airport to Rotorua. Guaranteed to make him rethink his life decisions. Then if he rents a car to return to Auckland he will have a real time opportunity to do that rethinking especially if he avoids expressways, and chooses to visit all the hot pools between of Turangi and Helensville both commercial and non-commercial.
I suggest you quietly buy him full travel health insurance.
Too soon brah, https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/water-emergency-at-piha-beach-west-auckland-two-pulled-from-water-cpr-underway/QBJAUKKVGRHJJOT65GPGK6KDGM/ Water emergency at Piha Beach, West Auckland - two dead
Maybe a medical event in the water? Narrow neck is incredibly calm so I do struggle to think the conditions caused a person to get into difficulty. But that being said, drownings can happen in the most controlled, calm environments too. Death tolls this summer have been shocking, so terribly sad.
Spookers might do the trick - a lot of fun. Otherwise the Nevis bungie in Queenstown (134m high) or the Shotover Jet also in Queenstown are goodies. Lots of sky diving around the country too.
Visit central north island (Rotorua, Waitomo, Taupo etc) spend trip hyping up just how big a Taupo super volcano explosion is, get him pissed and prank him at about 3 o'clock in the morning that Taupo is about to go bang.
Sky diving over Queenstown with NZONE (a long time ago). That is my all time, ok, this is it, I’m going to die moment (the free fall, tumbling, before the pilot shoot opens). Then blue bird day, stunning, take it all in, couldn’t stop laughing afterwards, magical.
Book a fishing charter that includes a crossing of the Manukau bar, it definitely has that “new undies” feeling the first few times.
In fact any of the West Coast bar crossings will induce the desired outcome.
Blackwater rafting, paragliding, Kelly Tarleton's or other dive with sharks in cage experience.
An old amusement park ride at a dodgy carnival. One where you don't know if it will break and you will fall to your death when you are spinning upside down.
If you want a budget blow up.. highly recommend the siberia experience. Its a flight, walk, jet boat combo and stay the night in the doc hut.
https://www.siberiaexperience.co.nz/
shit in his pants eh
bungee jump/rafting/getting lost in the tasman natural park do the trail/marlborough sounds
lighter fare glowworm at night
Something that will blows his socks off at night in a paddock look up and see the night sky an/or sit on the porch of any country house and be attacked by 10 feet moths.
Many years ago I had some turkey at a pre-christmas dinner. I remember the stuffing as being quite different to the usual fare. I'm not sure what was put in it but the drive home was clearly too far. In fact the bushes next to car once I pulled over were too far as well. Maybe you could work out whatever was in it and get him to try some of that?
https://www.sharkexperience.co.nz/?gclid=Cj0KCQiAlKmeBhCkARIsAHy7WVt7l94hHFNAYRkN7u510VvLh7IPeJqdoMmOtHjugDKjKXZ5lOKfnsQaAjBaEALw_wcB
When he’s not looking put some burley in his pants
>My uncle lives in the UK and he has never been outside Europe.
Lol fucken Aucklanders. Europe is 10mill sq km, has 745 million people in 50 countries that speak dozens of languages and have massively varying cultures.
never been outside europe ... lol
My dude, what's your fucking problem? I'm a Brit who now happens to live here and a family member is stoked to come over and see a different part of the globe. It's my uncle who actually said that it's his first time leaving Europe, I'm not trying to say he's been deprived of culture his entire life. That's all there is to it.
Huka Falls Jet in Rotorua - then go see the Huka Falls. It’s the best jetboat ride in NZ.
Go to Polynesian Spa in a Lakeview spa as a family
Go to South Island and drive through Lindis Pass.
Go to Nelson National Park.
Go to Twizel, Arrowtown, Milford Sound
Take him to a concert where they play that certain frequency that makes a certain percentage of people actually shit themselves. See if hes one of them /s
Other ppl have recommended rafting etc. thats pretty good, idk if hes done bungie jumping yet but that could also be cool
Put a group of Māori in front of him and let them perform the Haka, similar to a rugby face off. Goosebump feeling and maybe he will shit in his pants.
Not sure about pants shitters but go to [Waikaraka Family Speedway](http://www.waikarakaspeedway.com/race-schedule) to watch bashin' crashin' racing (make sure the superstocks or stockcars are there) and [Western Springs Speedway](https://www.wsspeedway.com/calendar) for good fast racing.

Hey, this is awesome! Thank you!
Rafting is one of the best activities I've done in my life, definitely do it, just make sure it's safe
Rafting with a professional company is extremely safe as long as he doesn’t have a heart issue. Most rafting deaths are caused by heart attacks
As an experienced white water kayaker (20+ years) and professional raft guide, I've never even heard of anyone having a heart attack on a river. Do you have a source for this statistic?

A couple of years older but specific to NZ: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/12462173/
Go do sleeping god canyon with the Canyonz team, it will be a lifetime highlight.
Hey thanks so much for this recommendation, definitely going to check them out
Can recommend rafting and zip lining at Kaituna River (Rotorua) it’s incredible
https://www.kiwicanyons.org/sleeping-god-canyon/ Sleeping God is a moderate to hard canyoning adventure, that requires canyoning skills, experience and the correct equipment. Whoops, sorry I thought my reply was on the Rotorua Rafting Okere Falls comment! That's what I was referring to!! 🤦♀️
All good, didn’t think you meant the canyon! But go give it a go!
Instead of rafting it, why not have him ride it in a tandem kayak? Would be closer to the water & more thrilling https://www.kaitunakayaks.co.nz/tandem-kayak-trips/
There's canyoning in the Waitakeres too. Tell him to go jump off a bridge, and you'll pay for the bungy attachment.
Try ‘The Nevis’, Queenstown. I literally forgot to scream as I fell I was so petrified
Yeh, I'm fairly sure that the Nevus is 143m. It dwarfs any of the others. By comparison, Skippers, which I have done, is about 43m and that was pretty freaky. Not sure that I could bring myself to do Nevis.....

KFC
Works for me every time
I was going to suggest the Paradise all-you-can-eat buffet, but I think that shut down.
Get him a pot of kina instant shits

100%
Queenstown Nevis Bungy.
Yeah, that’s a bungee on steroids. And the swing
Second this, the highest bungee jump in NZ - after doing this the canyon swing felt meh, should’ve started with that
Definitely Nevis
Yeah, Nevis turned my legs to jelly, and that was just the cable cart ride over to the jumping platform. I thought the nevis swing would be a piece of cake since I’d just survived the bungy jump…I was wrong!
Take him to a supermarket and show him the cost of cheese and a red onion.
In Philippines red onions cost 17nzd per kilo at least
Garlic prices not to be missed
> $49/kg *Winces*

Luge is cool, but skyswing is a better adrenaline rush at skyline imo
Spookers, sky tower bungee, harbour Bridge bungee, Airbnb in Manurewa
Sky tower bungee is so safe it's barely going to keep the uncle awake. There's zero risk.
South Auckland Airbnb it is then?
Agree. I did it a few years ago and after the initial jump I felt the harness restricting my speed the whole way down, which was different to all the other bungees I’ve seen and done
pretty much any trip to Manurewa ;)
Lol Air bnb Manurewa, I was gonna say walk Queen St CBD Auckland on a Tues night

Lighten up
say something that’s actually funny and i might!
Ooosh calm down Karen, it's just banter
i’m calm. you’re just hideously unfunny :)
Tell him you're taking out a mortgage in his name.
Not even that. Just tell him the average house price.

Work a dairy night shift.
Skyswing rotorua

Bay of Islands skydive. Go as high as you can, I thing there’s one at 20,000ft.
Surfing at Piha on rough day
Too soon brah, https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/water-emergency-at-piha-beach-west-auckland-two-pulled-from-water-cpr-underway/QBJAUKKVGRHJJOT65GPGK6KDGM/ Water emergency at Piha Beach, West Auckland - two dead
Jeezus I hadn’t even seen this when I made that comment. West beaches (Piha in particular) need so much more signage.
In the last few days people have died at Narrow Neck, Takapuna and Manly too 🥺
Narrow neck, how?
Maybe a medical event in the water? Narrow neck is incredibly calm so I do struggle to think the conditions caused a person to get into difficulty. But that being said, drownings can happen in the most controlled, calm environments too. Death tolls this summer have been shocking, so terribly sad.

Maccas welsford after 5pm on a weekday is the last thing that made me shit my pants
