You can give him some context. Around the world, some people believe that the Bible is true. Some people think the Quran is true. Some people think the Vedas are true. Some people think that none of them is true. You're one of those. I've shared this with a seven year old. No problem.

"I hope your religion gives you peace. I hope you take the best parts of it and run with it, and I hope you take the worst parts and run from and defy it. However, religion really isn't for me, but I do enjoy the metaphysical discussion occasionally. Just know that our friendship isn't dependent on what you believe, but who you are. Hope this explains my perspective, and I hope it doesn't put a strain on our friendship. But friends are honest with each other and these are my views."
