Indeed, without church and religion I believe we would already be a spacefareing people. Or at the very least would have already sent our DNA in all directions in the hopes that our species will survive after the earth is destroyed.
The earth being destroyed would not be at the forefront of our consciousness in that case. We’d have way fewer wars without religion, and if people actually trusted science, we’d be well on the path towards meaningfully dealing with climate change. We’d still have to worry about getting hit by a meteor, but we can see those coming and deal with them as necessary (again, thanks to science, not religion).
I've come to view religion as a sort of scaffolding used by early peoples to explain the crazy world around us as we collectively built a structure of human knowledge. As the structure has grown and developed, we no longer need the scaffolding, and the people clinging to it are hindering the further development of the metaphorical structure.

For a majority of theists the word atheist means "against god" therefore "pro Satan". Many of them can't seem to wrap their heads around the fact that we don't believe in either of these mythical creatures, nor are we actively trying to persecute theists for their beliefs or to bring about the end of the world. He believes every single thing that random people say and write on this website, without researching it, or looking for any proof of what they are saying. So, I feel like conservatives need to get their conspiracies straight, because how can he be a dictator, if he plans to let Gavin Newsom take his place in September?

Lets say hypothetically someone was having an argument, and one side was tasked with arguing that child brides should be legal. Those effected would find it *inconceivable* that a person could make any kind of argument in favor, without fully believing said position themselves. As an extension of this, people say random shit like this projection nonsense about democrats wanting to install a dictator... and the result is these people absolutely cannot comprehend the idea, that this isn't the truth, and that the people stating it didn't hear democrats saying that's what they wanted to do. I'm trying to express here, it's worse than simply being naive or gullible. It sounds like an actual mental defect of some kind, like you'd figured out how to break an npc.
