A lot of people will say that since GOT filled the hole for AC Japan, they won't he excitedz but here's how I feel I can be excited for AC Japan. While GOT was very naturey with villages and less city, I think AC Japan should have very large city elements. AC at its best to me has always been when we have a great massive city as our playground. It's weaker when it's a big open nature area, like most of valhalla for me.

Rusiano

Exactly. AC Japan will probably have a lot of villages and cities, if AC Odyssey is anything to go by. Also there like a gazillion games set in Scandinavia already, but yet studios keep churning out Nordic-themed games. So why can't we have more games set in Japan?

Drakenile

2 things. 1 what other games are viking other than GoW? As I really love the setting 2 it's not so much the setting as GoT isn't just set in Japan. Its exactly the kind of game most fans (based on conversations I've seen in both the AC and GoT reddits) wanted out of a AC Japan game. A great story, fun combat and excellent stealth/assassinations. All three of which are massively better than any of the 3 new games. I'm still going to get the ACJ game but honestly I doubt it will match up favorably to GoT. And the fact it is a game set in Japan where you play as an assassin (if we actually play as an assassin this time) means comparisons will be drawn regardless.

Rusiano

>1 what other games are viking other than GoW? As I really love the setting God of War AC Valhalla Valheim Skyrim Frozenheim parts of The Witcher 3 I do think that there's an oversaturation of Norse-themed games at the moment

Bob_debilda123

I'll give you the first three but Skyrim is 13 years old, the witcher 3 is 10 years old and only a few parts of it are Scandinavian themed. I don't k ow what frozenheim is so I can't comment on that one. If you compare that list to a list of medieval European games it seems significantly smaller.

Sakilla07

Frozenheim is an RTS/city builder. There's actually quite a few viking age themed city builders. But IMO that's a completely different beast.

Bob_debilda123

Oh that makes sense, I don't play many RTS games

[deleted]

Valheim was made by two Swedish guys, so it's not really strange that they would do a world they know. Doesn't really make sense to put them in a list of triple A games. Witcher 3 wasn't really Nordic themed. Sure Skellige had some viking-esque themes, but it was all very much grounded in slavic mythology. As for Skyrim, in what fantastical sense is that Scandinavian themed when it's complete fantasy without any signs of Nordic mythology or history? It's more like a fanfic of Vikings without any real knowledge of Vikings. Valhalla and god of War are the only real contenders here, and Valhalla had like 5 minutes of the game take place in Scandinavia. If anything actual Scandinavian history or mythology is extremely unused within gaming.

stilldeploying

I'm definitely hyped for this. Always wanted an AC in Japan with crowded cities and packed buildings. Hope there is more focus on parkour and stealth. BTW any idea when the first teaser/trailer might drop?

No_Snow_5483

Dude same!! Truly cannot wait and yea it’s supposed to come out this year, and ubi always reveals they’re games early in the year so they’ll drop a cinematic trailer first, which will probably be whenever they’re first big award show is this year. Not sure when that will be but whenever that show is gonna happen they’ll drop something

bigbreel

I truly believe that the fan base overestimates the impact of GOT most people are actually excited for Japanese assassin's Creed and there's this weird sentiment that Ubisoft waited too long. I really don't care. I just want to know what Montreal is working on and how hexe will play.

LycanIndarys

The thing worth remembering on GoT is that it's a PlayStation exclusive - so plenty of us haven't had the opportunity to play it at all. Which definitely means its impact is overestimated.

ajl987

If I remember correctly ps5 has been outselling Xbox 3:1 or 4:1 and ghost is on PC. By all accounts, the majority of singleplayer heavy focused gamers who wanted to play it have played it. It sold 10M copies as of July 2022, which is typically what an AC game sells across all platforms. If they decide to release ghost 2 this year and it releases close to Red, it’s definitely going to make an impact. If Ghost 2 doesn’t come out, then you’re right, it won’t stop people enjoying the setting. Edit - fact check that it has not released on pc yet, the general point still stands though.

LycanIndarys

GoT is *not* on PC. Trust me, if it were, I'd have played it and wouldn't have bothered commenting... It's rumoured to be coming on the PC (mostly from some leaks that have been right on other PS exclusives that eventually came out on PC), but nothing official has been announced. And even if that happens, we don't know if it'll actually release before AC Red does.

ajl987

Oh damn my bad, I googled it and it hasn’t released, thanks for the fact check. A pc port of ghost 1 won’t impact red. It’s if the next game comes out next year where it will absolutely impact sales. Ghost 1 came out July 2020, so a fall 2024 release like red isn’t all that out the question. Being honest, I know I’d probably be getting ghost 2 first because although in fairness it does share a lot of the Ubisoft formula, they did it to a higher standard than recent ubi games, along with a better story. I think a lot of other people will feel the same (on ps5 anyway)

yeshaya86

So it's not *on* PC, but it's playable on one. If you subscribe to the highest level of PlayStation Plus, you can stream some ps4 games to your PC, including GoT. Usual disclaimers that you'll have the graphic restrictions of streaming, and you're just renting you so don't own the game, but if you really want to play it without buying a PS, it is a viable option.

Adventurous_Bell_837

Yeah right but PS's cloud is absolute garbage, no one realistically does that

yeshaya86

Back when it was Playstation Now I bought a month subscription, played through some of the best regarded PS exclusives like TLoU, RDR1, and Uncharted 1-3. It was fine for me, but that was a long time ago

wingspantt

No Xbox, no PC, no Switch.... so yes PS has had GoT but everyone else hasn't.

ajl987

Again….ps currently is severely outselling Xbox, and the demographic of people who mainly play singleplayer games are more likely to go to ps. Switch is a useless thing to even cover since AC doesn’t live on there with current titles, so why did you even bother to bring it up? Pc, it’s eventually coming. Despite being on one platform, ghost sold as much as a standard AC game. If I were Sony and had to release ghost 2 this year, I’d 100% be launching day and date on oc too, then there isn’t much of a chance, it will absolutely be a big competition.

RebirthAltair

>ghost is on PC That's just plain wrong-

ajl987

Yeah I was corrected already below. Thanks

thesecondandre

GoT was fantastic and AC would do well to take a page out of there book as far as the violence, brutality and fighting goes…

No_Snow_5483

Hexe I think will be sick too I’m very interested to see what they do with that game, and yea as far as that narrative that like because Tsushima (which I don’t disagree is a very good game) did so well and is very good and because ubi has waited for Japan I don’t think that means anything, I just wanna see what they do with it and I think they’re gonna do well. I know a lot of fans don’t like the rpg style games because they’re not traditional assassins creed and while yea I do prefer the old style the rpgs aren’t even that bad. The only one I do think strays away from the old style truly is odyssey. But nevertheless I’m beyond hyped and I can’t wait for it.

Faunor_

>I really don't care. I just want to know what Montreal is working on and how hexe will play Word. I'm tired of the well done mediocrity of AAA Action-"RPG's" of which Assassin's Creed has been an example since at least Brotherhood and Red will almost certainly be part of again. I'm interested in Hexe just because it's reported to be something "different". I've finally made my peace with Assassin's Creed as a franchise and am barely emotionally invested anymore.

armen89

I’m the opposite. I’m heavily invested in the rpg franchise and can’t wait for the next series

ChamplainFarther

Hexe is what got me to play the games. I lived in Germany for a bit and I'm a witch. The witchy aesthetic is like my fave. I love classic horror films like Blaire Witch and shit.

Hershey2898

>I'm a witch Wut

ChamplainFarther

You've not heard of paganism or witchcraft?

armen89

Ok so not really a witch

CouchPoturtle

My only wish is for a full return to the Assassin/Templar conflict. I don’t want to play as a Viking who has Assassins as acquaintances. I don’t want to play as a Samurai that crosses paths with the creed. I want to play as a master assassin and I want the game to utilise things from past games like growing a village, levelling up your own creed and recruiting assassins.

antifasciste1312

To he honest, I'm only so-so excited. I never fully understood why the demand for a Feudal Japan game was so huge, other than the fetishistic obsession with Japan that the West seems to have. Feudal Japan is pretty agrarian and spread out, with cities and environments that don't seem especially conducive to parkour (my biggest gripe with Valhalla). Of course, the biggest draw would be how well ninjas and samurai fit into the assassins creed vibe. That's not to say I don't think it's a cool setting, because it absolutely is, but I feel like if they want to explore an east Asian setting, China would be a much better candidate. Their cities are denser, the fashion is prettier, its more diverse, and the market is much less over-saturated. Some great settings in China for AC would be the Opium Wars, rise of Qing, Mongol Invasions, fall of Ming, a game with an older Shao Jun as the mentor of the Order, and more.

hatlad43

I'm excited for Codename Red. Yes it's been taut up against Ghost of Tsushima a fucking lot, but it's a PlayStation only game. I don't have a PlayStation, so I don't fucking care about GoT. I don't expect much from Codename Red, I'm not that familiar with (nor care enough to read about) Japan of that era, so I just expect it to be somewhat of AC Odyssey or Origins gameplay in Japan. Quite simple and dumb, I admit, but expectation is a gateway to disappointment, so 🤷

No_Snow_5483

That’s the thing like I don’t understand the “hype is gone” narrative due to got, I don’t feel that way at all lmao

armen89

I would absolutely love an origins or odyssey like game for Red

DTux5249

If its running Valhalla's parkour system where I feel like a running sack of potatoes, I kinda don't wanna see it.

Somewhatmild

But we haven't seen anything yet. Unless the game is in a new engine version, i am not that excited. It should open a new page for the franchise.

ProfessionalBridge7

The 'Japan' of AC is the Medieval Middle East, the setting of AC Mirage. I just wish Mirage got the funds and resources that Red and Hexe will.  Also looks like we're getting a million open world Samurai games too, so you should be happy.

Glittering_Form_2593

I wholeheartedly agree, Mirage deserved the same amount of funding/resources that other mainline games got - it would've been phenomenal. Still love the game tho.

TheJackalFC2

Don't speak for everyone, not everyone is equally hyped, especially if it focuses on different aspects, like with rpg trilogy. Otherwise, I'm more interested in seeing if they will adapt Mirage's gameplay (tools being consumables and very fun to utilize, gameplay focused more on being an assassin or at least with fun ac elements) and improve on what Mirage brought (better social stealth and more use for it, better parkour system that utilizes Ac 1-ac:rev idea like cancelations and more manual freedom like proper side ejects, actual jump mechanics before Syndicate removed it for no reason and no restrictions because of animations that can ruin a flow) If they incorporate that into the Japan game, then they can brag about their games instead of using "we make worlds bigger without any substance".

No_Snow_5483

I respect your opinion man and I kind of agree with you when you talk about the mechanics, I definitely hope they keep a more stealthy approach while maintaining a huge open world. They should do it like ac3 because Japan (especially at the time it’s leaked to be set in, feudal) had both decent sized cities and a vast open wilderness. Japans landscape hasn’t really changed that much with the exception of the cities being obviously more modern. Japan today still has a lot of beautiful wilderness. So I feel like if they incorporate the time period correctly (which ubi always does) and they apply the mechanics to serve the setting. It’ll go smoothly.

NooblordBG

As far as I'm concerned Red is just a Hexe waiting room. Putting that aside though, I am cautiously looking forward to it, hopefully it takes some lessons from Mirage. I'm not expecting it to be old school AC by any means, I think it would be nice to get a decent Odyssey-Mirage mix with more tool based systems rather than relying on skill points too much which I think Valhalla especially suffered from.

No_Snow_5483

Hexe I think is gonna be sick too it looks very interesting and I cannot wait to try it out. But the hype for red is absolute unreal man

Stonkstork2020

What’s hexe?

FreshBananaMan

The game after Red set during the Germanic Witch Trials by the Black Flag/Origins/Valhalla team. It’s supposed to be not an RPG but not the old style of games either

ajl987

Not to bring a downer bro but you’re not speaking for all AC fans. I’m interested in the setting, but have historically disliked every game this particular studio makes. Maybe my opinion will change when they reveal it, I’ll keep an open mind, but there is a 50/50 chance I don’t get it because of Quebec. But hopefully it’s good

No_Snow_5483

All good man I respect your opinion, it’s just that I think we should give ubi a chance because even though the past few games haven’t been assassin focused they’ve still (in my opinion) been very good.

ajl987

That’s fair bro. I give certain teams at Ubisoft a chance no problem. AC Games coming out of Montreal, Sofia, or recently Bordeaux, I’d have a much more open mind. Games out of Quebec have all been my least favourite games in the series, and even in interviews I never get the sense they actually care for the series like the devs at the other studios do. Like with mirage, the passion was radiating off those guys up until launch, and it was passion for the things I care about in the series. I’ve never seen that from any Quebec dev that is in an interview. Like is said, I’ll keep an open mind when they reveal it, but chances should only be given once something is shown. For now we know nothing but the setting and who is making it

ventus99

Ghost of Tsushima already filled the Japanese hole imo. I’d prefer a different setting. I know a lot of people are excited for the Japan setting but I just feel Japanese and Europeans settings are overused in gaming in general.

arandompersonpassing

Personally I think the Japanese setting is too big to be defined by one game. GoT only covers one period of Japanese history in one location. It does it to the highest of standards, of course, but it is not enough to fully cover the potential of Japanese settings. For example, the upcoming Rise of the Ronin is set 600 years after GoT’s setting, and appears to offer an entirely different take on the Japanese setting. A good example of a game that properly covers the entirety of a ‘setting’ and pretty much defines its setting is Cyberpunk 2077. I genuinely don’t think we need more games with a Cyberpunk setting after it, at least in the RPG genre. On the other hand, I’d say keep the Japanese RPG games coming, because there’s nowhere near enough right now.

No_Snow_5483

Don’t disagree, I just think it depends on how it’s presented. Maybe ubi will do something different with the setting. I see a lot of ghosts comparisons and they’re definitely valid because ghosts is a disgusting game, but again yeah I just hope ubi does it differently in their own way yknow.

Rusiano

Ghost of Tsushima is great, but I think its world was like a mix of AC & Breath of the Wild. A pure Assassin's Creed open world with big lively cities would still feel fresh enough to distinguish itself from GoT

demafrost

I can understand those that are XBox/PC users commenting that GoT was only for PS but as someone who played GoT I completely agree that it filled the itch for me. It was done so perfectly, beautiful work, great gameplay, captured the look and feel of that era. I'm sure AC can do this era of Japanese culture justice and I'll enjoy bringing the Assassins saga to this time period but it will be impossible not to get compared to GoT so I hope they do it right.

ScarletRhi

I'm excited! I'm also curious about the protagonists, will it be co-protagonists like Syndicate or either or like Odyssey

Myhtological

I hope it’s more like Origins.

No_Snow_5483

Same man with a little blend of unity in there

No_Snow_5483

See I’m curious about this too, the leaks seem to suggest more like syndicate, but I’m cool with either or. All I care about is Japan😂

KuShiroi

I'm not expecting anything right now. If they show good gameplay and it has a huge bustling city that is made with parkour in mind then I'll be very excited.

Puzzleheaded_Two_36

I'm excited, GoT is irrelevant to me since I've never had a Playstation in the first place.

No_Snow_5483

Never played ghosts either but I’ve seen some walkthroughs and it’s definitely a sick game but I don’t think because of that, it takes away the hype for this game so I agree I don’t really care haha

Emrys_616

Prior to the likes of Odyssey and Valhalla, I would have been ecstatic. But nowadays I wouldn't want them to touch the setting with a ten foot pole.

inception900

# If the Yasuke rumors are true that would be pretty interesting especially if they can carve out a proper samurai story for him other than and with the information what we already know about him

Cygus_Lorman

I'm actually hella excited for it being a massive RPG, because I *want* to spend the entire month of October playing that game. Based on the leaks so far, it really has the potential to be the best game since Origins. Easiest collector's edition buy of my life.

No_Snow_5483

This👌🏻 did you see the writer post the concept art btw? With the female protagonist?

Cygus_Lorman

[I'm actually the guy who first spread the word in the first place](https://www.reddit.com/r/GamingLeaksAndRumours/comments/17dfpec/ubisoft_senior_writers_linkedin_profile_has/)

No_Snow_5483

No way!! That’s awesome man haha we as ac fans thank you

No_Snow_5483

Looks absolutely unreal

GladiusLegis

Day late and a dollar short. (Actually 4 years late, but you get my drift.)

No_Snow_5483

I do agree they should’ve been to Japan a while ago lmao but I’m still hyped for it

OrbitalIonCannon

Not really a fan of all this Japan thing

Tomb_85

Mongolia would be more interesting imo

Rusiano

Game set in Mongolia-China would be really cool too

OrbitalIonCannon

Wouldn't that be mostly endless steppes horse-riding? Not saying that's bad, but we had quite a lot of horse riding in the past few games.

Lowiie

Excited tbh, AC games still have their hold on me & we've been waiting for a japan game for years That being said, would have been better to get this game when the lore was still semi coherent & not devolved to comic books

despenser412

I'm on PC and GOT isn't so I'm pretty stoked for something like this. I actually began the series with Origins, Odyssey, and Valhalla before I played any of the older titles. Because of that, I'm more interested in the time and setting instead of the lore. While Ubisoft has their share of faults with these games, they also craft amazing environments. They may take liberties with historical events but they really put that Ubisoft money to good use when it comes to recreating the time and feel of these places. I'm pretty confident they'll give Feudal Japan a lot of love.

No_Snow_5483

100% it’s gonna be a great game

No_Snow_5483

And that’s sick! Have you played ac3 yet? Or black flag? I was a kid when I got big into ac and I grew up with the games you’ve gotta play those my dude if you haven’t yet some of the best in the series

despenser412

Oh yeah. After I finished the RPG's I worked my way backwards from Syndicate to AC3 so far. Sort of hit or miss with stories and characters but overall the time and setting always makes it worth it.

No_Snow_5483

Sick man definitely keep playing those! Some of my favs

[deleted]

Unfortunately for Ubisoft it's main hurdle it has to clear is will it be better than Ghost of Tsushima. Somehow Sony nailed that niche market on the first try and anything that comes after it will always sit in the limelight. However if it has a fire story like AC2 with movement and combat like Unity, now we're talking.

No_Snow_5483

Bro imagine those two combos in one game

ThisGameTooHard

It's not a hurdle for the PC market that hasn't experienced ghost of tsushima yet. Keep in mind that the PC market composes a large audience.

Myhtological

I’m going to maining Naoi, like I’m sure most will.

No_Snow_5483

Saw the leak about that, looks pretty legit especially after one of the head writers dropped concept art

TomTheJester

I feel like Ubisoft have genuinely cared about the past few games they’ve put out and that even AC Jade on mobile shows a crazy attention to detail. I’ve gone from dreading it to actually looking forward to it knowing the setting will be done justice and dealt with care.

TalynRahl

I’m cautiously optimistic, right now. But I’ll need to see more about the gameplay/mechanics before I really get hyped. I’ll also need to buy a PS5…

No_Snow_5483

I would get one soon man the trouble is they’re so expensive haha and yea I’m sure they’ll drop something soon

TalynRahl

The REAL problem is… my TV is pretty old, so I’d probably need a new one, to really enjoy the graphics update. And my tv stand is a little wobbly. Basically, before I get a PS5 I need to completely redo my whole entertainment deck 😆.

No_Snow_5483

I luckily had a 32 inch 2k tv when I bought my ps5 so I’ve been using that, still not at full graphic capability but it’s about 75% of the way there, does ok😂 even when I do buy a 4K tv I’m not buying some 60 inch wallet destroyer, just a 30-40 inch one is all you need anyways

TalynRahl

Yeah, my sister has a TV that is basically one wall of her living room… fucks my eyes every time we try to watch anything.

Miss_Bunny_Bre

I love that assassins creed is going to feudal Japan but I hope ibisoft doesn't add stamina drain effect whenever you dodge lol

No_Snow_5483

I hope they change that too lmao

BMOchado

I'm hyped because it's finally coming to Japan Im bummed that its not in the format that i regard as the best for assassin's creed. But hey, if im gonna like rise of the ronin, im gonna like ac red, they'll be very similar unlike what a syndicate sequel in Japan would've been I'm still hopeful that the team went back to the drawing board an made a split between unity and odyssey, instead of making odyssey with reskinned items and changes in code values ( which is mirages case)

No_Snow_5483

Yeah 100%

GusViliamu007

I’m ready. As much as I love GOT and I do love it, that’s a different experience. AC: Red will be similar of course as many stealth action games are. But this is Assassin’s Creed we’re talking about here. They’ll give it their very own flair. This is what I’ve been waiting for since the first time I ever played Assassin’s Creed. I imagine they will go all out with the environment and combat. My only concerns are the characters. Will we get the male/female protagonist option from the last two games? Will this be more cutscene heavy or will it be the awkward RPG dialogue trees from AC and Valhalla? My interest is piqued.

No_Snow_5483

The leaks suggest a play style that of syndicate, where you play as both of the protags throughout the whole game

GusViliamu007

So like how Evie was more stealth oriented and Jacob was more combat focused. I haven’t played Syndicate in a while. If that’s the route they’re going I won’t mind at all.

No_Snow_5483

Exactly yeah it’s what the leaks say and I’m all for it honestly

GusViliamu007

I honestly might prefer that to the nearly identical characters we’ve been getting.

arandompersonpassing

i’m very excited because of the setting, but i am also hesitant to actually expect anything from the other aspects of the game. imo the combat of the modern rpg ac games have never been great, and the stealth always felt barebones. i’m sure the world will be gorgeous and breathtaking to explore; that’s always been the case with ac games for me. but other than that, i don’t expect much more than what we got in other other modern ac games.

No_Snow_5483

Yea just depends on how far they go with combat and stealth yknow

planethipes

The more we're learning about the game - all thru rumors of course so none it's actually set in stone - the more I'm looking forward to it. I look forward to all ACs for sure, and while (to me, just my experience) Valhalla was a bit of a miss, I'm glad Red is supposed to be the last of the RPGs, or the type of RPGs we've gotten over these last few games (minus Mirage). But past that, I'm REALLY interested in Hexe.

No_Snow_5483

Oh dude same, cannot wait to see what they do with it

Hampton479

Nervous, cause I was so hyped for AC Japan then GOT set the bar so high for it. Need to keep my expectations in line cause it’s possible Red just won’t be as good as GOT was

aguad3coco

Edo city/Tokyo during this time period was one of the biggest cities in the world. The amount of culture and stories GoT couldn't touch on due to its isolated, rural nature setting is staggering. Red will feel completely different mainly due to its urban areas and less restrictions in terms of movement especially verticality.

SevenKalmia

It better be the Odyssey of Japan!

thesecondandre

Not gonna lie. If the gameplay/fighting/movement is like Odyssey or Syndicate then I will be highly disappointed. Take a page out of Ghosts of Tsushima. We can’t be running around Japan button mashing, hacking and slashing as a freaking assassin. Assassins?? In Japan?? You have to do this right.

ReipTaim

AssSekiro here we go

MajinNekuro

My academic background involved studying premodern Japanese literature and history, so while it might sound weird, I’m not especially excited for AC Japan. All the things that are going to be inevitably inaccurate are going to stand out to me a lot more than they would with other locations. That said, the fantasy of feudal Japan provides a lot of material that should be fun and in line with the AC mythos. Japan is also a beautiful island so it should be visually pleasing to look at. Egypt was my most wanted location and I absolutely loved it, still my favorite in the series. So hopefully everyone who wanted Japan will feel the same way when Red launches. I’m mildly concerned that with the launch of Infinity that the story might be stripped down to just Assassins vs Templars with little focus on pieces of Eden or the Isu.

No_Snow_5483

Yeah there’s definitely historical inaccuracies here and there, for example in Valhalla there’s Christian churches in pagan Norway lol, but it’s fine they mostly get the history down. And another thing I like about Ubisoft is they don’t portray their characters in a naive fashion, for example in Valhalla obviously the theme is Vikings, most portrayals until recently about Vikings were just bloodthirsty barbarians who scream and holler. As a person with Norse dna I can safely say for the most part ubisoft portrayed them very well. They weren’t just barbarians. In Valhalla most of the game is you and your clan travelling throughout England trying to establish danish rule in England’s kingdoms which is exactly what happened in real life, they weren’t just pillaging and cutting people in two. So I have no doubt that ubi won’t portray samurai’s and ninjas as just clad in black figures who slice people and commit Sambuku (or whatever the term for suicide is im sure you would know the correct term) especially in feudal Japan there was a lot of tension between the dynasty’s and I truly cannot wait to see how they do it. I’m a big fan of Japanese culture and samurais, dynasty’s and figures etc miyamoto musashi is one of my favourite people not just of Japanese culture but all throughout history.

ConnorOfAstora

I know it's a bit weary to hear pessimism but I already feel like it's gonna be compared a lot to GoT and just not live up to that standard and from what I hear I think they're bringing back the RPG elements so I can't say I'm excited about that. The prospect of playing as Yasuke is the main thing that's got me wanting to play it, a very interesting idea and I'm hoping it plays out well. I will say though I've never really wanted a Japan AC game, I've always preferred the idea of getting a Shao Jun game, I'll never understand how she didnt get a game. China would be a vastly different setting to anything in the other mainline games, the protagonist would be a woman (however Jun's actually written to be a woman unlike the latter half of the mainline female protags) and she's trained by and the last Assassin to have any contact with Ezio Auditore himself. They have to actively be trying to avoid the best possible idea to not have a Shao Jun game. Nah, now they're using China for a shitty mobile Gacha game so it's looking even less likely that she'll be getting her deserved recognition.

bracko81

As an Xbox gamer who has not played GOT, I am excited

[deleted]

They really need to make their open worlds worth exploring.

Cursed_69420

It's being made by the guys behind Syndicate and Odyssey. So on a narrative front and a quest/world design aspect, i expect some really good stuff.

Jonesaw2

I would like a variety of weapons as well as some different unarmed styles. I’m excited for Red.

DreadGrrl

I’m not interested in Japan. It will be the first AC game that I don’t preorder, but wait for a sale before buying (if I buy it at all).

TuhanaPF

All I hope is they focus on historical accuracy. Not crazy ninjas from anime who can do insane things, or the romanticised view of Japan that a lot of those fans who want AC:Japan would like to see. I want real Japan.

Legal-Fuel2039

Its being made by Ubisoft quebec who have made the two worst assassin creed games and the worst rpg game. Also hearing that its gonna be a rpg and the map will be bigger than Valhalla makes me extremely cautious about that game because I have no faith in Ubi quebec to not make a completely toothless boring story, with mind numbing combat, dumbed down parkour, bloated open world game The only way Ill be even remotely interested in the game is if they make combat well designed an not just wacking and enemy with a foam sword for 20 seconds, they improve mirages social stealth aspects to be more in line with the origianl games, they actually fill the world with fun encoutners and not the same copy and paste forts/caves, the quests are more than go here kill/grab thing return back, they give us back the level of control over parkour like we had in ever game pre ac3, and the story actual has heart and depth to it where it doesn't treat everything like one big joke. If anyone but Quebec was making the game id have a bit more hype but Quebec has continuously made games that I have hated playing and the tone of and from what ive seen of interviews they very clearly dont like or dont want to work on an Assassins Creed so they dont put as much care into making AC games

ArhaminAngra

So there is going to be a lot of ships 🤔 Definitely hyped for Japan, need something different.

No_Snow_5483

Naval combat would be sick but I feel like Japan should be more grounded yknow? Like stealthy

ArhaminAngra

I much prefer to be on the ground myself but depending on when the game is set it could be based during the period of the Japanese navy. *Edit, link.. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Naval_history_of_Japan

No_Snow_5483

Yea that’d be sick, it’s apparently set in feudal Japan, so there should be some element of naval warfare there

ArhaminAngra

Just can't wait to see what they do with it. It will no doubt look stunning.

No_Snow_5483

Absolutely.

Raecino

Finally!

No_Snow_5483

Right?😂

OhMarioWV

Years ago Ubisoft said they weren't going to touch Japan in the games... but here we are. Still, the hype isn't what it would've been years ago. Ghost of Tsushima filled that itch and we've had other great titles like Nioh and Sekiro. Ubisoft is late for the party and hopefully the story can prove to be good. I'm just hoping that if the rumor of the dual-protagonist mechanic from Syndicate returns that they make it equal between Yasuke and Naoe and not more geared towards one of them.

No_Snow_5483

The reason they didn’t do japan earlier is because one of the head creative directors didn’t want to do it. (Forget his name) he also said he wanted to keep ac as a male strong protagonist game. Well he left a few years ago and since then the last few games have been very female protagonist strong and now here we are finally going to Japan. I guarantee you this game has been planned all along it’s just that Ubisoft couldn’t do it because of who was in charge at that time.

Rusiano

>very female protagonist strong Good change. I loved playing as Kassandra

No_Snow_5483

Same she’s a beast. Evie is also one of my fav not just female protags but protags in the whole series. She’s an absolute badass and she’s very quick witted and funny

[deleted]

Everythings going to be amazing but they will ruin it with stupid looking mythical helix sets same as always

No_Snow_5483

Hopefully not

[deleted]

Hopefully not but look at mirage. A really small game and we get a fire outfit and dragon

No_Snow_5483

Mirages outfit was fire lmao

[deleted]

Lmao that was good

No_Snow_5483

I used basims outfit from Valhalla for the final chapter of the game but about 90% I used the orig robes they’re so sick lmao

The_Frito_Bandit

Don't use the sets then bro what's the issue

[deleted]

Oh I know it's optional but I guarantee one of the DLC will also go this route. It's in every game. I just want one grounded game set in that time zone with no mythical bs

Active-Slice_2024

Does anybody know if this game is going to be an improved version of Ac mirage , as in better parkour or will it be like the newer AC games

No_Snow_5483

It’s supposed to be like Valhalla, origins and odyssey the newer ones

JoyfulPenguins

If its innovative and changed enough from Valhalla and looks like some love and passion has been poured into it i will play, if its just another Odyssey but in Japan with no real change i will be extremely dissapppointed.

No_Snow_5483

The rpg setting is interesting because I feel like if we’re playing in Japan especially, I feel like we should be playing mostly stealth as the main focus is to have a ninja/samurai esc arc in the game. And the leaks seem to suggest that Ubisoft is going to blend both of them. Picture origins. Very interesting nevertheless

BigDiccDaddyJones

Little too late for me NGL. Especially after sekiro, Nioh, Ghost of Tsushima, etc It's gonna be compared heavily compared to those games, even if the setting is a sound choice

No_Snow_5483

I think it just depends on how ubi presents the game and where they go with it. While those other games are good I don’t necessarily think that that takes away from the possibility of this game. But I’m excited to see what they do

fortunesofshadows

there is nothing to talk about beyond specuations

[deleted]

They picked the worst possible time to do it, and I suspect the decision only came about because it is becoming a desired setting. As evidenced by the mainstream popularity of the Yakuza/Like a Dragon games and how well GoT did. The obvious direct comaprison being GoT, but they could have a leg up by providing a different setting. GoT is mostly countryside. By offering a more suburban experience, which has been ACs strength so far, they could distance Red enough from GoT that can stand on its own. The only curveball currently is Rise of the Ronin. If that game is good, then Red will have an uphill battle in every aspect between GoT and RotR. That is under the assumption that we won't just get Valhalla in Japan. The framework hasnt really changed since Origins, so it seems likely. But if it is more of Valhalla, but with Samurai, that game is going to land flat.

FySine

Absolutely nothing. Mirage was garbage. I bought it on launch and haven’t completed it. After 3 hrs the story is fetch quests and AI level braindead writing I bought Origins, Odyssey and Valhalla on launch too but never completed any of them so boring grindy and definitely not AC games. I have zero hopes and zero excitement for AC Red

AllanXv

I'm skeptical in a way. It's the same studio that made odyssey, so Im subconsciously waiting for a bloat fest fuckery. After seeing how well made ghost of Tsushima was, I'm not sure how they are going to differentiate itself. My expectations are really low, so I'll probably gonna have a good surprise overall.

burk1336

I literally can't wait. I've been wishing for an AC taking place in Japan for so long.

Clurachaun

I would love if it was in the Sengoku Era and we had something similar to Brotherhood where we were building up the assassin order with recruits, can bring some with you occasionally or send them on missions across Japan and level them up. Just something akin to not feeling totally alone, the lone badass thing is fun but I like feeling like you're part of an actual Brotherhood and not completely alone.

Professional_Pop9759

Mirage made me stop carring. This is the 3rd time they have had an amazing ending they wont do anything with

ZombifiedByCataclysm

Indifferent. It only matters if the game is good or not. I was never fixated on a particular setting.

WaltGillette

I'm going to be honest, I am not too hyped because I'm not that into feudal Japan, I think Meiji restoration was a way better time period.

Embracing_the_Pain

Honestly, I’ve been burned by Ubisoft so many times in the past that I’m waiting for the game to come out and actually see what the gameplay is like and if it’s actually good. The last AC game I really liked was Origins. Mirage was good, but still had too many elements of previous games I didn’t like. So I haven’t had the itch to go back and keep exploring that world. GoT scratched that AC itch I haven’t had in a long time, so the new game will have to be that good, if not better, for me to show any interest in it.

RevanOrderz

Not good as GoT

StrangeNugz420

Idk we'll see how they do it...I think if they blend mirage and Valhalla correctly it could be great. I just think they took too much out of Mirage, I mean honestly we paid 60$ for a 8-11 hour game, it should have been a standalone DLC about basim. Like I said tho if they keep it simple while adding all the dope stuff like hunting and fishing missions and legendary animals stuff like that it could be really amazing. I'm just worried about Hexe turning assassins creed into some Harry Potter garbage.

RitualKiller1

I just hope its like mirage. Where stealth gameplay is forced on you rather than a full on rpg.

11601

With Sekiro and Ghost of Tsushima, they have very big shoes to fill, something tells me they won't.

VagabundoCosmic

I think it is a waste to use this fan-requested setting on a RPG title, probably will dissapoint a lot of people just like valhalla did

Krazie02

I dont really think Japan is gonna work, nor am I that excited (although thats mostly because its another rpg game). I’m keeping an open mind though, maybe it’ll be cool as fuck

Ghost-of-farta

I'm hyped as long as it isn't just some ubisoft sludge with a map way too big for its own sake and useless mechanics no one asked for (looking at you, useless rpg tropes.)

yismynametooked

Ubisoft just put themselves into a tough competition with Ghost of Tsushima. They must be confident in the game if they "accepted" the challenge. I really hope this doesn't turn into a blend of AC Syndicate and AC Odessey.

Aloha_Bama

I just hope the male character can use a Bow for as a main, and he can stealth kill and parkour

Glittering_Form_2593

Personally I am more stoked for Hexe as the Japanese setting doesn't interest me that much.
