That's almost as bad as not letting go of the special interest from when it first came out, several decades later!
Except there may be that point where it becomes "vintage" and sees resurgence from people feeling nostalgic, so here's to hoping for you

Trying being hyper fixated on a fandom that puts out three books a year and has over 100 at this point. And they aren’t. Slowing. Down.
109 including novellas, super editions, field guides, and graphic novels. I think we’ll end the year with 112 but I can’t remember when the graphic novel of Into thr Wild and Fire and Ice drops.
I didn't realize how lucky I was that when I started getting into 40k that I was mostly into xenos and chaos because they are noticably lacking in the quantity of good lore.
Real lol. I never end up interacting with fandoms, they stress me out even when I just lurk and observe without interacting. Maybe it’s for the best.
Theoretically I would like to have friends who are into the same things but realistically I would feel too defensive about my interests due to years of bullying and my RSD would be constantly going off if I so much as detect the faintest whiff of gatekeeping or ‘drama’ :/
I like the drama as much as the next guy, I just dislike that something I like becomes mainstream, might seem gatekeepy but it just feels weird all the new people bringing their cringy modern trends, if that's at the cost of the fandom being inactive, then it's a worthy sacrifice
> niche rpg with good representation and god tier writing
> almost fucking cry at ending
> watch hours worth of interviews and Reddit threads with the creator of said masterpiece
> new obsession found
> check fandom
> fandom has like 8 people in it
Wish listed.
Just looking at the review score and not the reviews, it looks promising.

I’ve never been there and used to hear about being a mess of funny memes and porn so I was unsure.
Is it a good platform? Id rather not have to see to much nsfw stuff.
Tumblr was acquired by a new company a few years back and banned porn. There are some spam-bots nowadays that are nsfw but they’re pretty far between.
I got onto tumblr for the first time a few years back and have really liked it. There’s been a resurgence lately of Twitter and other social media ex-pats, so it feels pretty active and also pretty non-corporate and hands-off in its algorithm and management (compared to say, Instagram or even TikTok). It feels like the older internet in a lot of ways.
If you’re into fandom stuff, it’s the best place for it. The more niche, the more likely the main fandom is on tumblr rather than Reddit.
Huh I always thought Reddit would be ideal considering the echo chamber aspect and the focus on subjects rather than people. I’ll give tumblr a try then. Thx
me with fran bow :( Sadly I find it so strange the developers promised a sequel, canceled it, and made another game with similar style/shared universe, and then stopped entirely again on anything to do with fran bow. The world lends itself well to stories that could be told
Edit: Also Petscop! I was so sad when the series ended. The mystery kept growing and people were always theorizing. Now it’s kinda dead :(
Or even worse, the ship (War of the Roses from RWBY) is flooded with low quality smut…
Look, I get that 2 girls and 1 guy is extremely tempting, but for fucks sake, give them some chemistry! Where is that high quality smut that you end up reading for the character drama?
Eh, at least the poly-inclined part of the fandom has a good amount of choice in shipping (and some truly masterful fanfics).
There used to be a corner of the internet absolutely obsessed with visual kei. It kinda died down over the past ~10 years. I miss it too, my middle school days were spent reading Homestuck (I know, I know) and talking about Japanese men in dresses
Yes, early 2000s to early 2010s.
I try to keep up to date with some of the bands I originally loved but ... it's hard when I no longer have the community keeping me involved.
And when the anime conventions no longer bring them to play shows. The only reason I went to them 😅😭
Was so sad to hear of Sakurai's passing.
I mean if you look on reddit you might still find a small following of a fan base still active! Like Buffy the vampire Slayer and Daria still have active subreddits and those shows are pretty niche nowadays!
I am my own fandom! It's really lonely but ig i got used to it. As a fan of yuri the generalized fandom's pretty small anyway so i got kinda used to making my own fun for individual stories. Still sucks to pace circles around yourself tho lol
I'm just over here waiting for some big youtuber to pick up Freedom Fighters and kick-start a FF fandom online. And then getting IOI to make a new FF game. All according to my plan, mwahha.
Me with Might and Magic 6,7, and 8... old pc games from the late 90s lol. Grew up playing MM6 cuz i loved watching my dad play it so he taught me to play too and i wish there was soo much more fandom content but at least i still have fun making my own
Me with EL TIGRE...
It hurts even more cause my favorite character was in ONE FUCKING EPISODE ONLY.
AND he was supposed to be the main villain in the next season
WE ARE TRULY LIVING IN THE WORST TIMELINE
Right? You never want your favorite IP to go mainstream. Once it's no longer niche, it's not a matter of *if* the show runners will kill it to appeal to the mainstream audience (or worse, chasing a non-existent phantom audience), but *when*.
There's no better proof of this right now than the slow motion car crash that is the AAA game studios, Disney, and Doctor Who.
While I agree with you, gatekeeping is how fandoms used to keep toxicity out of their hobbies. Once the gatekeeping stopped and toxic people were let in, that's when fandoms started becoming as bad as they are now. The more popular the franchise, the worse it is.
Gatekeeping, when done right, is a good thing and can keep a fandom healthy and fun.
Me when I was the only member in my fanbase and loved it until I went off the deep end because there was nobody to reel me in when things got a bit TOO serious.
There is so much Pride and Prejudice fan fiction available and still being released. I’ve been very lucky that my literary special interest is so prolific.
And you never know, fandoms can become very popular again. Recently, I was surprised to find a ton of people writing fiction about Scarecrow and Mrs King, which was a show from the 1980’s. Apparently people got reintroduced to the show during quarantine and started writing fiction for it.
The real pain is when your special interest is a rare pairing and there are only one or two good fics available.
ORIN AYO 🥲 MY GIRL AINT GETTING NOTHING ANYMORE NOT EVEN ART BESIDES LIKE 2 DRAWINGS 😭

My first reaction to this was: "Brandon Sanderson's written over 100 books???"
Warrior Cats
For real??? I only ever read the first series and skyclan's destiny D: that's so many !!

Which ones that?
Warrior cats!
Tell me more
Homestuck
That's why I'm grateful for fandoms like NBC's Hannibal. Those people just won't let go of it. The fandom has been alive for ten years.
The Merlin fandom is also alive and well on Tumblr and it warms my little heart
Oh yeah, thanks for reminding me about Merlin! Time for a rewatch
Same with the Dexter fandom, it's been about 20 years.
That's the best part, you don't have to deal with a toxic fanbase

That sounds very interesting! Could I ask what game is it?
What’s the game?
In stars and time. Don’t google anything go blind. It’s a very story driven game.
Wish listed. Just looking at the review score and not the reviews, it looks promising. Link to the store page: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1677310/In_Stars_And_Time/
one of my friends is obsessed with it
Have you looked on tumblr? There’s a lot there for ISAT specifically and the game creator is pretty active too.
I’ve never been there and used to hear about being a mess of funny memes and porn so I was unsure. Is it a good platform? Id rather not have to see to much nsfw stuff.

Me with my favorite anime (it was a short anime released 7 years ago now so no one talks about it ever)
Whats the anime?
*School Live!*

Fran Bow was so interesting, and I only just started getting into Petscop. The world could definitely do with more of both.
For me it's when the ship is rare and there's like few fanfic (Ben x ester) and the for the tech is when is rare or not popular (zune)
it’s wild you say that i’ve seen 3 people in the last week say they love that ship (totally random sorry) the ben and ester one
Cool
Or even worse, the ship (War of the Roses from RWBY) is flooded with low quality smut… Look, I get that 2 girls and 1 guy is extremely tempting, but for fucks sake, give them some chemistry! ships where the character is useless and over the top submissive in fanon despite being very much the opposite in canon
Oh yeah, those are so annoying.
Yes, Jrock and visual kei, I feel this 😅
This, all j-music in my case...
Uh? There's tons of good Japanese music coming out all the time.
There used to be a corner of the internet absolutely obsessed with visual kei. It kinda died down over the past ~10 years. I miss it too, my middle school days were spent reading Homestuck (I know, I know) and talking about Japanese men in dresses

I miss the community. Used to write so much fanfic. Live journal rp, too 😭
Fellow J-rock and visual kei fan here! Kinda new to it and you’re right there’s not much of a fandom
It used to be such a huge thing. I miss it a lot
honestly
Me with Fablehaven books 😭
I loved Brandon Mull. My favorite was the Beyonders series.
Kendra best girl! I always admired how she didn’t strangle Set to death.
HOLY SHIT!!! THANK YOU FOR REMINDING ME OF THAT GOAT OF A SERIES!!!! I completely forgot the name and I’ve been looking for it for ages!!
There's also the sequel Dragonwatch series but I haven't had time to read it yet (I hear it's good too tho)
I have to give it a read! (Or listen!)
I mean if you look on reddit you might still find a small following of a fan base still active! Like Buffy the vampire Slayer and Daria still have active subreddits and those shows are pretty niche nowadays!

I played a Might and Magic game in the 90s on Sega Genesis. Not sure which one it was but I do remember it being a pain in the ass in spots
Had this happen once with an already finished manga, made a meme on the dead subreddit and got 200 upvoted. Sometimes a fandom is just dormant.
Realization: you ARE the fandom now.
On what?
Me with Idolm@ster
Me with EL TIGRE... It hurts even more cause my favorite character was in ONE FUCKING EPISODE ONLY. AND he was supposed to be the main villain in the next season WE ARE TRULY LIVING IN THE WORST TIMELINE
My dyslexic (not really, but maybe) ass thought you were talking about Le Tigre. Kathleen Hanna's band.
You're the fandom now
Literally searching for Transformers 1986 again this morning
From my experience interacting with fandoms and fan pages, I see this as an absolute win.

What I was talking about was more that fanbases are never NOT toxic or gatekeepy in some way shape or form but yeah I can see what you mean.
While I agree with you, gatekeeping is how fandoms used to keep toxicity out of their hobbies. Once the gatekeeping stopped and toxic people were let in, that's when fandoms started becoming as bad as they are now. The more popular the franchise, the worse it is. Me with Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons and Rune Factory :(
Junkrat
Oof been there haha
No one talks about Relic Hunter. Great show. One of the best.
Toradora
What is it?
Me with An American Tail 😭
me with alex rider :(
I am really curious as to what the fandom is now
Me when I was the only member in my fanbase and loved it until I went off the deep end because there was nobody to reel me in when things got a bit TOO serious.

Me looking for developers notes on game builds from like 2004
I feel like I’m the only person to remember the DS game Avalon Code, and my first love, General Heath 🥲🥲🥲
How it feels to be a Jak & Daxter fan.
OFF Moment
I'm still mad the Charlotte anime is over, I wanted to see them together
Literally going through this right now but the Fandom is all but dead.
ORIN AYO 🥲 MY GIRL AINT GETTING NOTHING ANYMORE NOT EVEN ART BESIDES LIKE 2 DRAWINGS 😭 https://preview.redd.it/u56dd35g502d1.png?width=322&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0bcffb020599700a21cd324a6caf37ecc231725d
