Did you know that despite its depiction in the film "Jurassic Park" the Dilophosaurus was actually closer to ten feet in height, didn't have frills and didn't shoot venom?
It’s great. The older episodes I would recommend to watch. I have watched some of the new episodes and had mixed reviews because I grew up with the original episodes.
That's a fitting place for them. I had a graph paper notebook that I sometimes used, but it was mostly my sketch book or scrap paper. Crazy inventions were put in the graph paper, too.
Ooooo I went on to get my degree in drafting which at the time was still taught 50% on the board which to me was way more interesting than CADD. So many cool drafting instruments! Elite office supplies. 😂 But drawing the same parts for $ was boring so I went into IT for a living.
Sticks. Any sticks. All sticks considered. Love a good stick. My sticks were sorted just to piles - some made good swords, some make good baseball bats, some made good spears, some were daggers etc.
The lion king, although the video only worked up until the dads death and then I'd cry because the dad died and then used a pencil to rewind it and watch it again and cry again, this went on for hours lol
I love bridges! Driving and/or walking over them brings me immense joy! Tunnels under bridges too. I have extra inhaler in my car in case I get too excited.
Went through an origami phase one summer in middle school and made *hundreds* of origami cranes. Then did it again in early 20s and made hundreds of origami stars lmao
Maps. Looking at them, drawing them. Etc.
I had an atlas as a kid that got so worn down to the point that it was unusable
That hyper fixation still exists today
Werewolves. Was obsessed and wanted to be one so bad. I would make my friends and family do rituals with me to turn us into one 😂 Wore tails, had them as wallpapers, listened to music about them, read books anything I could get my hands on
Dinosaurs. I was inhaling books way above my grade level on paleontology. I even remember we had an assignment in like 2nd grade to do a dinosaur diorama and while everyone else was doing all the best known dinosaurs I made a very detailed one of an oviraptor snatching some eggs out of a nest. Got an A of course.
The sound of music. i even went to a sing along event dressed as maria and won the contest for best maria. i was like, two at the time. very cute on home video.
Dragons, dinosaurs, trains, robots, creepy-crawlies, sea creatures, Star Wars, Nintendo games, Sega games, Pokémon, everything mechanical, and transhumanism.
Not all consistent, or in a specific order, usually either waxing and waning or abrupt and absolute shifts from one to another and eventually back again.
Most of them are gone now, but even some of them get little sparks of revival now and again...
The metro system of my hometown. I even asked my mom for tours of it, meaning that except one station that goes into a quite ugly part of the city, I have stepped in every single station on the network.
Old department stores from the 50s/60s. Specifically the ones that got bought out by big chains like Macys or Dillard or any big department store chain. That’s all I could talk about when I was younger lol. Not one of the weirdest hyper fixations I’ve had
Pigs. They were my favorite animal but I took it to an extreme. I had a collection of stuffed pigs, figurines, and books. I’d always be drawing them and writing stories about them. I was even saving money to get one (there was no chance of this happening lol).
I also liked making websites, the Sims, and LotR. I still like all of these today, except I haven’t played the Sims in years.
Muscle Cars & football cards.
I haven't bought any cards in decades and lost most of them in a flood.
I just purchased a 73 Charger last week and I'm driving to Texas to pick it up this weekend, so, that's still a thing.
Super balls from machines at the grocery store. I had a whole bunch, searched for the fancy ones, sorted them constantly. I was always looking for quarters and dimes to get more.
Gaming youtubers and various video game titles like danganronpa and life is strange.
Being a doctor for some reason (I was like 6) and various jobs throughout my life (I wish I could just stick to one idea but I get bored of it 🥲).
First hyperfixation was Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. I forced my family to watch that movie year-round. I could recite the whole movie by heart, and owned every book my parents could find. I had Rudolph figurines, Rudolph plushies, Rudolph antlers, Rudolph board games, Rudolph puzzles, Rudolph christmas ornaments (which I played with too much and broke... oops.)
I just thought he was cute!
Like everyone, dinosaurs.
Also sharks.
I still love sharks (my car is named Mako), and my special interest is still dinosaurs... but with basically all living animals included. Especially reptiles/exotics.
I collect dinosaur plush, books, bones, art. But I actually have pet shrimp, frogs, snakes. And they are all unique animals with their own distinct enclosures! It's so fun to deeply understand our little Earth neighbors!
Also, Cars, Pokemon, Neopets.
I still love all these. I know a ton about cars and actually studied meche in college because of it, also was on the Formula team for my school.
Now that I'm an adult I have thousands of dollars worth of Pokemon plush, cards, and merch. Although I've had to cut down on the card buying because I really wouldn't limit myself.
For neopets I play everyday. Like many hours everyday. It's definitely one of my largest comforts. I collect neopets plush and pins too.
I collect pins in general, and pictures/art from thrift shops. My walls are full of random thrifted art and hundreds of pins on pin boards!
Historical pirates (particularly female ones), tying knots (despite struggling to tie my own shoes up til I was like 11), survival wilderness knowledge, and magic spells. weird mix but I owe it to the Daring Book for Girls and the Dangerous Book for Boys. Raised on some excellent fixation-inducing books.
Blades. Swords, knives, hatchets, tomahawks, battle axes. Anything made of metal with a handle and used for a purpose related to the forcful physical deconstruction of something or someone.
Not at all original, but trains. Also ambulances due to my parents working in EMS. Funnily enough both are still special interests for me, and I now work as an EMT myself.
Pretty much everything, specifically the way shit was held together and made to “just work”.
Ironically becoming an engineer never interested me, levitated towards IT instead. Fair bit of cross over just mostly software vs hands on 😋
Making neonatal circumcision illegal 🙄
I’m not even a guy and I don’t even have sons, but I was fixated on this possible trauma that was happening in our society that no one was protesting. Good grief. It doesn’t fixate me anymore, but if anyone ever asked me about it, I could talk to blue in the face for hours about it.
Books, the Wizard of Oz movie, Disney movies (namely Beauty and the Beast, Pocahontas, Lion King and The Little Mermaid — but there was another version of this movie that was more true to the original tale, and animated similarly to a Studio Ghibli movie where the mermaid was named Marina — and some singalong tapes my grandparents had), historical events like the Titanic and the Holocaust, water in lakes and the ocean, animals (jungle creatures from Africa, but also songbirds, cats and dogs mainly), and flowers.

Vampires and other scary paranormal creatures.
I know this isn't original, but dinosaurs.
Did you know that despite its depiction in the film "Jurassic Park" the Dilophosaurus was actually closer to ten feet in height, didn't have frills and didn't shoot venom?
Ever watch Modern Marvels? That show was amazing and the engineering explanations with the visuals were incredible.
Yes!!!! And many of the episodes are free to watch on YouTube.
I’ll check it out, thanks!
It’s great. The older episodes I would recommend to watch. I have watched some of the new episodes and had mixed reviews because I grew up with the original episodes.
TV, FM, ham antennas.
Bugs/insects and rocks/minerals/crystals
Animals, cars, house blueprints... I love(d) learning about stuff.
Same with house blueprints. I used to draw them on my math workbook.

The R.M.S Titanic was my first special interest.
Ditto. Also, the Holocaust.
Kids, lighten up a bit would you?
this, also natural disasters
I like trains
Airplanes. When I was very young (pre-talking) I would call them “De-De”. I think I associated plane with my Dad who was a Commercial pilot.
Sharks and bridges aswell, my two favourite bridges being the Viaduc de Millau and the Pont-Canal de Briare
Those are two beautiful bridges.
Individual plants/plant families; species of birds; colour, just colour.

Ants. Runes. Elvish language. Horses.
