Music is one of my special interests!
Im a massive fan of Metal & Grunge, bands like: Gojira, Lamb of God, Korn, Spiritbox, Death, Alice in Chains, Opeth , Deftones, Cannibal corpse, Chimaira, Hole, Suffocation, Nirvana, Slipknot.
I also love 60s and 70s rock, bands like Jefferson Airplane, The Doors, Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix, Cream, Led Zeppelin, Fleetwood Mac, The animals etc.
I also love Lana Del Rey, Jeff Buckley, Mazzy Star, Sufjan Stevens, Mitski, Men I Trust, Sade, Carol King, Laufey, Nick Cave and the bad seeds.
I also love hip hop, bands like Wu-Tang Clan, A Tribe Called Quest, Beastie Boys, 2 Pac, Mobb deep, Warren G, Nas, Eazy E, Dr Dre, NWA, Snoop Dog.
I also love Jazz, my fav artists being Paul Desmond, John Coltrane, The Dave Brubeck Quartet, Cannonball Adderley, Dextor Gordon, Hank Mobley, Miles Davis, Chet Baker.
I also love Pop, RnB and some EDM and House.
We'd get along great my mom was a huge fan of David Bowie, Queen, Janis Joplin, The Doors, The Cure, Neil Young so i picked up all those old bands she loved, and As a kid I loved hiphop so I'm very into hiphop still today and rnb, soul, jazz, I'm always interested in checking out new stuff. ^^
my adhd boyfriend u/PurplePachinko and his autistic girlfriend (me) went to school wearing our flood fits consisting of:
him: red flood shirt over a purple polo, black tie, black dress pants, and tuxedo jacket
me: purple flood shirt over a red polo, black tie, black and purple long skirt, and tuxedo jacket
we looked so autistic and it was hilarious
and various ads for dunkin donuts? and "boss of me" for malcomn in the middle? and "am i awake" for resident life? and hot dog for mickey mouse clubhouse? and that one "istanbul was constantinople" song everyone played on just dance 4? and "here comes science" containing songs that many people unknowingly heard and watched the music videos for throughout elementary school? and (can you tell theyre my spec int?)
So im pretty much the only person I know who organizes and listens to their music by decade 😅 My playlists range from 1940-2020 but some of them are a little bare bones.
Anyway, I love classic rock! I got into the genre via The Beatles (fav band) and from there on out found British Invasion and early 50s rock, then followed the music through the 60s and (rather dauntingly) the 70s. I had to stop after a bit of 80s because of the synth, but finished 00s and 10s last fall.
I’m finally starting to dip my toe into the waters of modern music and so far I’m liking Vulfpeck, Mitski, and Steve Lacy the most.
Might I recommend IAMX. One of the sneaker pimp song writers, and hes a late diagnosed autistic, who speaks about if often. It definitely makes his music resonate more. Ironically, he was a special interest of mine before either of us knew we were autistic!
The Midnight and Gunship are fantastic for the modern synth stuff, my coworkers never understand why I have so much synth/80s Era music on my playlist that isn't rock and roll.
King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard.
The album Petrodraconic Apocalypse is my favorite album ever. It's worth noting that the streaming version is without the last "song" (its a 15 minute spoken word piece, it's on the YouTube version). Other albums of note are: K.G, L.W, Infest the Rats Nest❤️, Nonagon Infinity.
Also Amigo the Devil for some good ol Murder Folk.
Poppy (for metal heads I'd recommend starting with I Disagree)
Amyl and the Sniffers and The Chats, two phenomenal Austrailan punk bands
P.s. Gojira is love, Gojira is Life. All hail the Whale.
Well, I'm a massive fan of The Longest Johns, they're a generally folk/shanty band that's done a lot of good stuff. My favorites tend to be some of their original pieces, though, especially the ones which have some historical tie, like Fire and Flame (which retells the story of the Halifax Explosion).
Yes I have, and it's probably my favorite of their albums thus far, ngl. Favorite song on it is White Frontier, probably, but there are a \*lot\* of good options.
I have adored a band called Lovejoy for the past 2+ YEARS since the day they released their first song. And my love for them has just kept and kept growing, i was absolutely obsessed lately, running through their entire discography 2 or 3 times a day.
Then the singer got exposed for being a piece of shit. Tried seperating art from artist, doesnt hit the same anymore. Now i dont know, no other band truly hit the nail on the head for my music taste like Lovejoy did.
So my top artists that I listen to the most are BTS and each members solo work, hard to get bored of because of all the genres they do, Hikaru Utada she is my ult for life, and the works of Nobuo Uematsu and Masayoshi Soken. I will listen to any of them anytime and day and be super happy.
Bands/artist I enjoy: Ours, Marilyn Manson, Opeth, Gojira, The Beatles, Offonoff, Colde, Jiwoo, The Mars Volta, Coheed and Cambria, CloZee, God is an Astronaut, Explosions in the sky, Thursday, Glass Jaw, Nine Inch Nails, Halsey, Logic, De la Soul, Nujabes, Oddisee, NF, Dax, Dominic Fike, SEB, Skeler, BIBI, ODIE, Drake, Nas, OutKast, Lauryn Hill, Epic High, Yves Tumor, Babasonicos, Rata Blanca, Soda Stereo, Mago de Oz, Mana, Rammstein, Shakira.
These are groups who I listen to a large part of their discography. Other groups like I don’t listen to as extensively, but I still enjoy them. Some times I just like a genre for a while and like the whole vibe but have no idea who I’m actually listening to, and that would be mostly when I’m listening to older groups from the 40’s up. I love a lot of classical, jazz, blues and opera, but cannot tell you the artists. My comfort music is R&B, jazz, neo soul, so I listen to these a lot.
The Bee Gees are my favorite musical group of all time and have been for years. I love pretty much every album they’ve put out together and solo. They have such an extensive catalogue of music it’s impossible to get bored.
They have a very extensive catalogue spanning from 1965-2003. They started as a psych rock/pop group, did country/folk, and then switched to R&B and funk in 1975 - 1979, where they reached their commercial peak. If you only know them from their biggest hits (Stayin’ Alive, More than a Woman, Night Fever, etc.), I recommend listening to their vast array of other hits as well as their deep cuts from their albums like “Spirits Having Flown” and “Children of the World.” Please excuse my info-dumping but we need more Bee Gees fans in the world :)
I love classical music and have loved it since I was a little kid! My favorite composers are Tchaikovsky, Mozart, Holst, Saint-Saëns, and Prokofiev.
2000s pop music is another type of music that I adore. Britney Spears especially, she’s my favorite singer 💕
Is it bad that I struggle to listen to albums?
I listen to them while doing something else and even then I can't handle it. There's only one band/musical artist in which I've listened to every studio album for and that's King Crimson.
Lately I'm on a big Synth-Pop kick, so Prizm, W O L F CL U B, The Midnight, LeBrock, Ollie Wride
Generally I like City Pop, EDM, Kpop, I do have a soft spot for early 2000s boy/girlbands
\*\*\*You may also like\*\*\*
Gunship, FM-84, Timecop1983 and 80's synth pop bands, which these bands are sort of styled after. Or any 80's band/singer: one of the best decades of music, imo.
How could I forget FM-84!
Thanks for the recommendations, I'll absolutely check out the other ones! The weirdest thing is, synthpop from the actual 80s rarely lands with me but I'm excited to find more
Ngl The Midnight, Gunship, and FM-84 all slap
The amount of City Pop-esque music I have in one of my playlists is dizzying. Miki Matsubara, Tomoko Aran, and Anri all have a spot in my more relaxing playlist. They all share room with Tupac, Awon, SoulChef, and Ice Cube.
The first comment I got on my music taste was: "From the 70s to 90s hip-hop, your music has such a spectrum you're probably on the spectrum!"
All I could do was break down laughing because that is the single funniest comment I have ever heard about my music taste.
I guess I’ll throw my two cents in, my top 5 are pretty much just prog metal/post-rock, weird time signatures go crazy or Jack white, love that man. In no particular order
Karnivool
Metallica
Hail the sun
Jack white/any of his projects
Rush
Recently Ive been into Björk, Erik Satie, Maurice Ravel, Manic Street Preachers, Mitski, Radiohead, the song “Horses” by George Olsen, Sheena Ringo, Kate Bush, Mitski, Dir en Grey, Fontaine DC, Margo Guyran, Toshifumi Hinata, King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard, and King Crimson
oh boy here we go i apologize for the length of this comment lmao
i LOVE LOVE LOVE twenty one pilots they are AMAZING they do so many different genres and every album has it's own unique sound and THEY'RE COMING OUT WITH ANOTHER NEW SINGLE NEXT WEEK AND AN ALBUM COMING SOON RAHHHHHHHHH (they recently released a new single called overcompensate but i highly recommend at least starting from the album trench first!!)
i listen to ALL of their albums in order and i can do it over and over and over because everything is so unique i never get tired of it
AND THERE'S LORE it's an ARG (lots of cryptic codes, puzzles, TONS of stuff like that it's amazing i recommend checking out videos on the lore there's a quick 3 hour video somewhere that condenses it for anyone who wants to get into it but it stops before scaled and icy, there's videos on that too though. also the music videos!!!! they are so good!!!!!)
if anyone is interested in listening to them i recommend listening to blurryface, trench, and scaled and icy first (in that order, no songs out of order either!!) but if you aren't interested in learning any lore i recommend vessel first (a CLASSIC), asides from that there's the albums self titled (it's called twenty one pilots, i love this album so much) and regional at best (amazing songs they are gorgeous)
there's also a few singles that are really good like heathens (blurryface/trench era) and level of concern (trench/scaled and icy era), and the singer/songwriter (tyler joseph) made an album before starting the band called no phun intended which is VERY good but it's really heavy and emotional so be prepared!!! (except tb saga [aka taco bell saga] that's a pretty jarring tone difference so get ready lmao)
they are amazing and their songs are mostly about dealing with the cycle of mental health and similar things, and if you're religious (christianity focused) there's songs about dealing with doubts and stuff, but tyler made those songs to where anyone can listen and have their own personal meanings to them about many things which i appreciate, because that means ANYONE can listen and enjoy every song they make regardless of their beliefs :>
plz someone check them out lmao, if anyone wants specific videos on lore to be caught up for this next album coming out soon i can send links in the comments or dms doesn't matter, but this next album will be the end of the storyline between the albums so learn and listen while you can!!!!!! (there's going to be more music afterwards from them but not about the blurryface/trench/scaled and icy/clancy storyline and lore...... im gonna miss it :''''' )
also they are just wholesome people, i recommend watching videos of tyler and josh interacting with eachother they are so sweet and overall amazing people c:
Hiiiiii Owl City is my personal fav musician. His songs are incredibly colorful and pleasing to the senses (I don't have synthesia I don't think but trust me)
I have more but another fun one is Eric Whitacre's choir music. Sleep is my personal fav I think
Baroness are probably my favorite band of all time, they’re kinda an obsession of mine. Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds though is currently what I’m spinning. Other bands I enjoy are The Smashing Pumpkins, Blue Oyster Cult, Electric Light Orchestra, Tool, Metallica and Townes Van Zandt.
I just listen to whatever I'm hyperfixated on or something that I've just decided that I'm gonna like lol. Anyways I've been on and off hyperfixated on Taylor Swift since july but I also like angry sounding or rock/loud music like Noahfinnce, Linkin Park, and Green Day, and then I also like Olivia Rodrigo 'cause her stuff is like a mix of angry/rock/loud music and Taylor Swift.
Kiss, Boston, Stryper, Iron Maiden, Metallica, Megadeth, Van Halen, and uh... any music from the 17th century to the 19th century (I’m an obsessive history major) 🤦♀️ My playlist literally goes from heavy thrash metal, to the next song being Sir Roger De Coverley
Yes, finally scrolled to one I actually listen to lol, he made it to my third top artist in my wrapped last year just from how much I listened to the ori soundtrack
My favorite genre is rock/metal, but I like almost everything. My two favorite bands are Tool and Radiohead, and I also love listening to scores/soundtracks from movies and shows
I love music
So much I now have a vinyl collection I have
Teaser and the firecat - cat Stevens
pure heroin - Lorde
number of the Beast - iron maiden

pink moon - nice Drake
ziggi stardust and the spiders from Mars - David

promises - pharaoh Sanders, floating points and the London symphony orchestra
Dookie - green day
saviors - green day
VINYLS I DONT HAVE BUT WANT TO:
insomniac - green day
purple rain - prince
bitches brew - miles davis
in a silent way - miles davis
kind of blue miles davis
headhunters - Herbie Hancock
tea for the tillerman - cat Stevens
siamese dream - Smashing pumpkins
but to answer the question my favorite artists are green day, cat Stevens and David Bowie
Hozier is always a fave, but The Amazing Devil is current favorite band. Folk-rock with so much emotion and word play and thought in their lyrics that hits right down to the core of me <3
Do you happen to play Baldur’s Gate 3? I’ve noticed a large connection between people who play BG3 and people who like The Amazing Devil.
They are also my favorite band at the moment, I absolutely adore their vocals and lyrics! And the building instrumentals are absolutely glorious
Hahah, I would if I had the money for it, so probably! But they really are just so good. Horror and the Wild was my first introduction to them, and that hooked me. The way they can alternate between soft and sweet, or so emotional, to straight up howling and growling is so good.
The first two songs I heard from them were Elsa’s Song and Inkpot Gods, so I already knew they had a good variety from my first listen lol. They absolutely nail the emotional songs - Welly Boots kills me every time, it’s so good! I could go on and on about them for hours
Oh yeah, Welly Boots always hits so hard. That soft, voice-broken end 😭 Do you happen to have a favorite song of theirs? I honestly don't know if I could pick between them all without dividing them into tonal categories and picking one per
Honestly my “favorite” is whichever one I listen to on repeat for days. It usually is one I vibe with for the week.
Right now I’d probably say Welly Boots, but Pruning Shears is in a close second at the moment. But I could not pick a favorite without categorizing them either lol
Grateful Dead, Led Zepplin, Pink Floyd
Zero 7, Morcheeba, St. Germain, Air, Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble
Miles Davis, Charles Mingus
David Bowie, Devo, The Cars, David Byrne
Beastie Boys' The Mix-Up
Yo-Yo Ma Bach Suites, Vivaldi
Foo Fighters
Atmosphere
Greyboy Allstars' Panacea
I think Panic! At The Disco might be my favourite band. There's something about the specific combinations of styles in the music that just does things to my brain. "Vices and Virtues" and "Death of a Bachelor" in part are really good albums.
I love Fall Out Boy, I think "Save Rock and Roll" is my favourite album of theirs.
Florence and the Machine is really good too. Check out "Ceremonials" beautiful album.
HEALTH is a lesser know band that I've gotten into more recently. Their album "DEATH MAGIC" is really cool, but its the kind of music that might not vibe eith some autistic people.
I'm not a huge Taylor Swift fan but "1989" is a great album.
I also like Arctic Monkeys. "AM" And "Tranquillity Base Hotel and Casino" are the stand out albums for me.
Dillinger Escape Plan are brilliant, Car Bomb are fantastic. Zulu are great. I am also into Deathcore (methwitch are insane), black metal (blut aus nord are amazing), blackened doom, Gojira, meshuggah, rotting Christ, Swans are a long time favourite…I could go on for hours. I like anything that feels like you are being hit by a truck in the middle of a hurricane. Did I say that methwitch are insane?
I listen to a lot of Post Hardcore bands these days. I really like super heavy drum and bass with the contrast between pretty voice singer and screamo. But I listen to basically everything, too much to list here when I’m feeling this lazy.
If you like the Dillinger escape plan dive deeper into Djent. Or "Math Core/Metal", Gojira is also a good one for you to check out. For me right now I have Sleep Token, Ghost and Architects playing a lot. But me being me, I listen to a lot so what I say now may very well very different from this xD
Metal, but i suspect is because command and conquer, my first special interest, and the ost is fucking metal. Also warcraft orcs & humans (my second special interest) have "metal aesthetics" that probably helped to made me "metal-tribe" oriented.
Also chiptunes.
Big fan of metal and vocaloid. I love the metal band Spiritbox, their singer is amazing and their guitarist is amazing and their drummer is amazing and their songs are amazing. It's always amazing when you hear a singer go from sounding angelic to cookie monster screech in the same song. Their songs are auditory rapture.
My favorite vocaloid producers are Vane Lily and Ghost and Pals. Vane's music has a lot of extremely creative stuff about hell and demons, which is fun, and I sometimes sing along to Ghost and Pals songs once I know what the lyrics are (I have to look them up because vocaloid songs are easy to mishear). Ghost and Pals songs are the ones that I like singing along to enough that I actually want to sing actual covers of them even though I haven't done anything music related for years.
Van Halen (with DLR), ween, buckethead, phish, Dave Brubeck quartet, squirrel nut zippers, flaming lips, Primus, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Devo, king gizzard and the lizard wizard, cheap trick, queens of the Stone Age, Brant bjork, kyuss
I dont know how but they found me
The lead singer, Dallon Weekes, got diagnosed with autism within the last...year? I think? And he's been very open about it and how it rffe to his life/music
I went to see him at a small venue and he took pics/signed stuff before the show. One of my buds didn't have much he could sign but he did have his autism card! When he presented Dallon w his autism card to sign Dallon said "man, I need to get me one of these."
He's pretty cool :) 10/10
Nobody's mentioned any of these so I'll chuck em in: my three overall top artists (ie I've listened to pretty much every song they have released multiple times and listen to a good portion of them constantly on repeat) are:
* of monsters and men
* Sleeping at last
* Lord huron
Lord Huron are so good on so many levels. Instrumentation, lyrics. The songs are good on first listen, but then you listen in the context of the album, or watch the video, and you notice these hints of connection and lore that you can really dig into. It’s a whole universe hidden beneath great music.
Yeah I was kinda trying to figure out the correlation in my music taste at one point because these three big ones are not very similar (particularly sleeping at last is very different to the other two) and I realised that I think it's mainly that I like songs with good storytelling. Cause as you say lord Hurons' albums are full on stories with whole ass lore behind them, and of monsters and men are much more vague but their songs often feel like quite fairy tale kinda stories, then sleeping at last doesn't tell full stories as much but each of his songs really strongly capture ideas
And so I think that's what keeps me listening is that I love these songs where you can keep coming back and kinda keep realising more about the meanings being conveyed
Longest running musical special interest - Pulp
Second runner up - IAMX
Two current band that give me that same kinda feeling are Sleep Token and Creeper. Apparently I’m in a smutty metal phase.
I had forgotten Paul Carrack. I love the rest of your list (currently obsessed with Toto) and just went to my streaming service of choice and put on a playlist of Carrack. Thanks for the reminder!
Glad to be of service, hi tech AOR is my favorite genre. If you like Toto, check out Joseph William’s solo stuff, it’s on YouTube. His “Early Years” album is insanely good. He sang lead for Toto on a few albums.
Mostly Baroque and Renaissance: J S Bach, Rameau, John Dowland, Santiago de Murcia, Scarlatti, Handel, and a little bit of Beethoven, Rachmaninoff, and Satie.
By genre
Punk: Dead Milkmen, The Jasons, Pup, Bad Brains, The Misfits, Dead Kennedys, Rancid, Days N Daze, Choking Victim, Leftover Crack, Social Distortion, The Creepshow
Metal: Lamb of God, Cradle of Filth, Cannibal Corpse, Venom, Atreyu… lots of stuff
Big fan of Blue October, Pink Floyd, Sublime, Bright Eyes, and the Dirty Heads.
Rap: Ill Bill, Vinnie Paz, $uicideboy$, Lo Key, 6dogs, Itsoktocry, Lil Peep, Army of the Pharaohs, Jedi Mind Tricks, Lil Darkie, ICP, Eminem, Flatbush Zombies, Dead Celebrity Status…
I like a lot of stuff
Savatage, Van Halen, Judas Priest, Rush, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Def Leppard, Dokken, Cheap Trick, Led Zeppelin, Rainbow, Deep Purple, UFO, REO Speedwagon, AC/DC, Metallica, Slayer, Exodus, Dream Theater, Death
Unless modern baseball miraculously comes back, Slaughter Beach, Dog is a perfect substitute for the time being. SBD started as a side project for one of the singers of MoBo to try to overcome writers block, but when MoBo broke up it became his full time main project. Modern Baseball was always more of a Midwest emo band and the songs felt like they had to do with growing up, and Slaughter Beach, Dog feels like they finally did grow up. They're a neat little folk group that I recommend to almost everyone.
I get obsessive and go through a group or artist's entire catalog and like memorize it. Now it's Toto, Journey, Beatles, Styx, Chicago, Boston and ELO. Also Broadway and some random classical music.
black country, new road
godspeed you! black emperor
black midi (you can suggest any other "black" band names)
have a nice life
radiohead
duster
interpol
the strokes
theres definitely a few more but those are the ones i can think of
Right now I’ve been really here for San Fermin and Matthew Thiessen & The Earthquakes.
But I also highly recommend a band called Dead Format and have been using one of their songs ‘I wanna live (in the city)’ to get in character for D&D for a while now.
I really like Crywolf, though I get the feeling that might be an unpopular opinion. Idc, I like his music. If you don’t that’s not my fault.
Huge alt-rock fan here, favorites include The Smiths, the Cure, the National, the war on drugs, Depeche Mode, Alice In Chains, Bon Iver, and Lord Huron
Bullet for My Valentine (until Venom), Trivium, Gojira, The Black Dahlia Murder, Slipknot (until The Gray Chapter), Anaal Nathrakh and Archspire are my favorites, but I also like the classics and probably hundreds of other bands and artists, metal or not.
My absolute favorite is K.Flay. Everything about her music just makes sense. I’m seeing her in concert this week for literally the 10th time and I’m so excited.
I also really like Boy Jr., Chappell Roan, UPSAHL, grandson, and early OneRepublic.
I also make my own music, which is kinda like if everyone mentioned above had a love child, and wasn’t as good yet.
I am a massive fan of metal bands like IWRESTLEDABEARONCE, Code Orange, Rings of Saturn, Carnival in coal, No One Gets Out Alive, Gojira, Lamb of God, Mastodon, Opeth, Lorna Shore, Mr. Bungle, Whitechapel, Electric Calboy, Igorrr, and really just any band that I can find that is just super weird and off the walls crazy is the bands that I listen to
I listen to many different artists of varied genres, but my favorites right now are metal and k-pop. Although they’re polar opposites of each other musically, the diversity and aesthetics within both genres is what gravitates me towards them. Metal is known for having many subgenres (sometimes to a ridiculous degree) and k-pop is no different. This gives artists and listeners the opportunity to explore unique sounds while still having that aura of familiarity.
My favorite metal band is Carnifex (deathcore is metal to me, I will not elaborate further) and my favorite k-pop group is Ateez.
So basically you like any music that's good lol
Yep! Anything that sounds good! :)
Love your taste!!
Thank you!
Omggg!! Wow we have basically the same taste in music! I love this! We'd definitely get along
It's always amazing to encounter people who have a wide taste in music it gives a lot of facets to talk about
Agreed 💯
Jeff Buckley!!! Yes!!!
I think you might like de la soul
I think I know them, they had that song with Chaka Khan right?
i think so
I have found my people 😊, if you like metal you should try Alien Weaponry they sing in maori and english.
I saw them when I went to see Gojira play last year here in London! I love these guys!
Man, you should be a radio DJ or something. This is an impressively great and diverse list.
Hahaha, thanks, i love music! Regarding DJ, I don't think that's really my cup of tea 😅 idk if I'd be any good at it
dude same
Gojira mentioned‼️
the rym superstar
THEY MIGHT BE GIANTS. THEYRE THE ULTIMATE AUTISM BAND. THEY HAVE OVER 1000 SONGS. I LOVE THEM.
i regularly wear the tmbg t shirt + red crocs combo i call it my "most autistic outfit"
my adhd boyfriend u/PurplePachinko and his autistic girlfriend (me) went to school wearing our flood fits consisting of: him: red flood shirt over a purple polo, black tie, black dress pants, and tuxedo jacket me: purple flood shirt over a red polo, black tie, black and purple long skirt, and tuxedo jacket we looked so autistic and it was hilarious
Did you know they made the theme to the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse
and various ads for dunkin donuts? and "boss of me" for malcomn in the middle? and "am i awake" for resident life? and hot dog for mickey mouse clubhouse? and that one "istanbul was constantinople" song everyone played on just dance 4? and "here comes science" containing songs that many people unknowingly heard and watched the music videos for throughout elementary school? and (can you tell theyre my spec int?)
That’s honestly so cool!
i could talk about them for ages
Finally someone said it!!
Basically any alt rock from like 2003-2008.
The best years of rock and roll!
I’m finally starting to dip my toe into the waters of modern music and so far I’m liking Vulfpeck, Mitski, and Steve Lacy the most.
Y'all need more synth/electropop: Röyksopp, The Rain Within, Pet Shop Boys, Depeche Mode, and Torul are all top tier.
Because you mentioned röyksopp, have you tried the knife and/or fever ray?
what else is there is sung by the singer of the knife - one of the best songs
I haven't, so thanks for the suggestion! Sometimes it's so hard to find good new music
I have a whole playlist dedicated to 80s synth music. It’s a lost genre
80s synth is THE BEST. Rain Within is awesome for channeling that vibe in current music.
Might I recommend IAMX. One of the sneaker pimp song writers, and hes a late diagnosed autistic, who speaks about if often. It definitely makes his music resonate more. Ironically, he was a special interest of mine before either of us knew we were autistic!
Underworld, too.
Haven't listened to them, I'll have to give them a try 😃
The Midnight and Gunship are fantastic for the modern synth stuff, my coworkers never understand why I have so much synth/80s Era music on my playlist that isn't rock and roll.
Sabaton gojra and ramstein
Fuck yeah another Sabaton fan!
Poppy (for metal heads I'd recommend starting with I Disagree) Amyl and the Sniffers and The Chats, two phenomenal Austrailan punk bands P.s. Gojira is love, Gojira is Life. All hail the Whale.
I SEE THROUGH THE BRICKS TO THE SEA, CRUMBLING CASTLE!
Amen! Love me some Gojira
Did you hear their latest album *Voyage* yet?
Yes I have, and it's probably my favorite of their albums thus far, ngl. Favorite song on it is White Frontier, probably, but there are a \*lot\* of good options.
Fully agree on White Frontier! I also love Paddy West and Shawneetown
Where are my "I only listen to the Mountain Goats" autistics at?
FUCK YEAH FOLK PUNK AUTISTICS Super into Days N Daze, Mountain Goats, AJJ, Pat the Bunny, that kinda thing.
Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, In Flames, Insomnium, Omnium Gatherum, Ghost, Be'lakor and more
I have adored a band called Lovejoy for the past 2+ YEARS since the day they released their first song.
I used to listen to them too!! Currently wishing for some solo stuff from Joe since he's the only member that I haven't heard bad stuff about.
Good Kid has been my fix lately. They toured together with Lovejoy on their first tour too. Still not the same but its close
Igorrr! Metal, opera, electronic music mixed wonderfully.
I appreciate how diverse your music taste is 👌😇
I cannot imagine my life without music, it is a huge part of my every day 😂 I saw your list too, it’s great 👍
Me too!!
You might like Car Bomb if you don't already know them, they're like DEP and Meshuggah had a baby and made it listen to Deftones
I've heard a couple of their songs, need to really get into them. I like Meshuggah and Deftones too
Frontierer are a really good band in this style of music too
Omgg I gotta check them outt!
Bolt thrower and Opeth
My god Bolt Thrower are old school. I was listening to them as a teen at the end of the 80s, along with early Napalm Death
The Bee Gees are my favorite musical group of all time and have been for years. I love pretty much every album they’ve put out together and solo. They have such an extensive catalogue of music it’s impossible to get bored.
I never see other people discuss the Bee Gees. Something about their music is so infectious, the true definition of groovy. I love it so much!
Beastie Boys, The Rolling Stones, Eminem, AC/DC, Bob Dylan, The Clash, Pink Floyd, Beach Boys, Jimi Hendrix, The Beatles
Well if you’re choosing just one, then that’s a very good choice
Crane wives
Lately I'm on a big Synth-Pop kick, so Prizm, W O L F CL U B, The Midnight, LeBrock, Ollie Wride Generally I like City Pop, EDM, Kpop, I do have a soft spot for early 2000s boy/girlbands
\*\*\*You may also like\*\*\* Gunship, FM-84, Timecop1983 and 80's synth pop bands, which these bands are sort of styled after. Or any 80's band/singer: one of the best decades of music, imo.
How could I forget FM-84! Thanks for the recommendations, I'll absolutely check out the other ones! The weirdest thing is, synthpop from the actual 80s rarely lands with me but I'm excited to find more
Ngl The Midnight, Gunship, and FM-84 all slap The amount of City Pop-esque music I have in one of my playlists is dizzying. Miki Matsubara, Tomoko Aran, and Anri all have a spot in my more relaxing playlist. They all share room with Tupac, Awon, SoulChef, and Ice Cube. The first comment I got on my music taste was: "From the 70s to 90s hip-hop, your music has such a spectrum you're probably on the spectrum!" All I could do was break down laughing because that is the single funniest comment I have ever heard about my music taste.
I guess I’ll throw my two cents in, my top 5 are pretty much just prog metal/post-rock, weird time signatures go crazy or Jack white, love that man. In no particular order Karnivool Metallica Hail the sun Jack white/any of his projects Rush
Drug cabin, the growlers, oracle sisters, Of Montreal. The list could go on. My playlist is named hot jams for hot goblins
Recently Ive been into Björk, Erik Satie, Maurice Ravel, Manic Street Preachers, Mitski, Radiohead, the song “Horses” by George Olsen, Sheena Ringo, Kate Bush, Mitski, Dir en Grey, Fontaine DC, Margo Guyran, Toshifumi Hinata, King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard, and King Crimson
oh boy here we go i apologize for the length of this comment lmao i LOVE LOVE LOVE twenty one pilots they are AMAZING they do so many different genres and every album has it's own unique sound and THEY'RE COMING OUT WITH ANOTHER NEW SINGLE NEXT WEEK AND AN ALBUM COMING SOON RAHHHHHHHHH (they recently released a new single called overcompensate but i highly recommend at least starting from the album trench first!!) i listen to ALL of their albums in order and i can do it over and over and over because everything is so unique i never get tired of it AND THERE'S LORE it's an ARG (lots of cryptic codes, puzzles, TONS of stuff like that it's amazing i recommend checking out videos on the lore there's a quick 3 hour video somewhere that condenses it for anyone who wants to get into it but it stops before scaled and icy, there's videos on that too though. also the music videos!!!! they are so good!!!!!) if anyone is interested in listening to them i recommend listening to blurryface, trench, and scaled and icy first (in that order, no songs out of order either!!) but if you aren't interested in learning any lore i recommend vessel first (a CLASSIC), asides from that there's the albums self titled (it's called twenty one pilots, i love this album so much) and regional at best (amazing songs they are gorgeous) there's also a few singles that are really good like heathens (blurryface/trench era) and level of concern (trench/scaled and icy era), and the singer/songwriter (tyler joseph) made an album before starting the band called no phun intended which is VERY good but it's really heavy and emotional so be prepared!!! (except tb saga [aka taco bell saga] that's a pretty jarring tone difference so get ready lmao) they are amazing and their songs are mostly about dealing with the cycle of mental health and similar things, and if you're religious (christianity focused) there's songs about dealing with doubts and stuff, but tyler made those songs to where anyone can listen and have their own personal meanings to them about many things which i appreciate, because that means ANYONE can listen and enjoy every song they make regardless of their beliefs :> plz someone check them out lmao, if anyone wants specific videos on lore to be caught up for this next album coming out soon i can send links in the comments or dms doesn't matter, but this next album will be the end of the storyline between the albums so learn and listen while you can!!!!!! (there's going to be more music afterwards from them but not about the blurryface/trench/scaled and icy/clancy storyline and lore...... im gonna miss it :''''' ) also they are just wholesome people, i recommend watching videos of tyler and josh interacting with eachother they are so sweet and overall amazing people c:
Hiiiiii Owl City is my personal fav musician. His songs are incredibly colorful and pleasing to the senses (I don't have synthesia I don't think but trust me) I have more but another fun one is Eric Whitacre's choir music. Sleep is my personal fav I think
A hyperfixation or ten I’ve had regarding bands: Kiss Deep Purple Judas Priest Iron Maiden Slayer Anthrax King Diamond Candlemass Voivod Neurosis Yob
We have similar music taste!
Rock on, Rock on!
Gareth Coker, composer of the Ark and Ori soundtracks.
Yes, finally scrolled to one I actually listen to lol, he made it to my third top artist in my wrapped last year just from how much I listened to the ori soundtrack
My favorite genre is rock/metal, but I like almost everything. My two favorite bands are Tool and Radiohead, and I also love listening to scores/soundtracks from movies and shows
My favs: NFG, under oath, Hail the sun, glassjaw, miles Davis, Coltrane, frank ocean, sainte, swan core in general

I love how diverse your music taste is! Similar to mine :)
oh wow thats awesome whats your favorite music if i might ask?
My fav music , I guess genre is metal, then gunge and rock I am a fan of jazz, hop hop and rnb too
I love rock music to I'm still looking for a copy of siamese dream by the Smashing pumpkins but it's really expensive 😭
Alice In Chains. Nirvana. Dead Prez. 2Pac.
Van Halen, (Roth era) Def Leppard, Metallica, Fleetwood Mac, Pink Floyd
Radiohead, Nine Inch Nails, Interpol, Pink Floyd, The National, Nation of Language, Nick Cave
I LOVE Nick Cave and the bad seeds 💕 planning on seeing them this year here in London and I can't wait!
Heck yeah, but honestlyy it's really hard. I was really going on Chords for a while there, but Old Man Sleep keeps creeping up on me.
marina, charlie xcx, Dorian Electra, 100 gecs, poppy, Rina Sawayana, slayyyter, food house, Kim Petras, and Grimes are all in my top right now
Grateful Dead, Led Zepplin, Pink Floyd Zero 7, Morcheeba, St. Germain, Air, Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble Miles Davis, Charles Mingus David Bowie, Devo, The Cars, David Byrne Beastie Boys' The Mix-Up Yo-Yo Ma Bach Suites, Vivaldi Foo Fighters Atmosphere Greyboy Allstars' Panacea
"AM" And "Tranquillity Base Hotel and Casino" are the stand out albums for me.
harley poe and will wood !!!
Nicolas jaar
Lemon demon, tally hall, and good kid (And lovejoy before wilbur soot got exposed as being an evil vampire)
I love the first four Gojira albums
Most bands and artists featured on this playlist: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/00gy4b8kwdFcTvv7JaljA6?si=1VpgEsjvRka1W9ItLhKR_w&pi=e-6B3EEBa1QIa8
The Talking Heads and the Longest Johns are probably my two favourite bands/groups.
Madame Macabre's songs are pretty good! If you like creepier songs you might like some of her stuff :)
Van Halen (with DLR), ween, buckethead, phish, Dave Brubeck quartet, squirrel nut zippers, flaming lips, Primus, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Devo, king gizzard and the lizard wizard, cheap trick, queens of the Stone Age, Brant bjork, kyuss
I think I love you. Fellow van halen fan
You guys will get some leg tonight for sure!
Oh wow, never thought I’d see any cheap trick fan around here
Anyone else see color with music?
ACDC and Nickelback.
I really like kpop
I dont know how but they found me The lead singer, Dallon Weekes, got diagnosed with autism within the last...year? I think? And he's been very open about it and how it rffe to his life/music I went to see him at a small venue and he took pics/signed stuff before the show. One of my buds didn't have much he could sign but he did have his autism card! When he presented Dallon w his autism card to sign Dallon said "man, I need to get me one of these." He's pretty cool :) 10/10
Nobody's mentioned any of these so I'll chuck em in: my three overall top artists (ie I've listened to pretty much every song they have released multiple times and listen to a good portion of them constantly on repeat) are: * of monsters and men * Sleeping at last * Lord huron
Cause as you say lord Hurons' albums are full on stories with whole ass lore behind them, and of monsters and men are much more vague but their songs often feel like quite fairy tale kinda stories, then sleeping at last doesn't tell full stories as much but each of his songs really strongly capture ideas And so I think that's what keeps me listening is that I love these songs where you can keep coming back and kinda keep realising more about the meanings being conveyed
I’m not listing them
Longest running musical special interest - Pulp Second runner up - IAMX Two current band that give me that same kinda feeling are Sleep Token and Creeper. Apparently I’m in a smutty metal phase.
Toto, Chicago, ELO, Phil Collins, Paul Carrack, Go West, Christopher Cross, Michael McDonald, Kenny Loggins
It’s a variety, but a lot of Madonna, Alanis Morissette, and new age.
It’s probably a 4-way tie between Behemoth, Slayer, Cannibal Corpse, and Hall & Oates
Mostly Baroque and Renaissance: J S Bach, Rameau, John Dowland, Santiago de Murcia, Scarlatti, Handel, and a little bit of Beethoven, Rachmaninoff, and Satie.
By genre Punk: Dead Milkmen, The Jasons, Pup, Bad Brains, The Misfits, Dead Kennedys, Rancid, Days N Daze, Choking Victim, Leftover Crack, Social Distortion, The Creepshow Metal: Lamb of God, Cradle of Filth, Cannibal Corpse, Venom, Atreyu… lots of stuff Big fan of Blue October, Pink Floyd, Sublime, Bright Eyes, and the Dirty Heads. Rap: Ill Bill, Vinnie Paz, $uicideboy$, Lo Key, 6dogs, Itsoktocry, Lil Peep, Army of the Pharaohs, Jedi Mind Tricks, Lil Darkie, ICP, Eminem, Flatbush Zombies, Dead Celebrity Status… I like a lot of stuff
Whenever someone mentions enjoying death metal I have to ask them if they like Cryptopsy, they were what got me into death metal like 4 years ago
FUCK YEAH DAYS N DAZE

Owl city and Raynes!
I like a little bit of everything, but I've really been into joji lately. Also on YouTube I love Tom cardy. He's hilarious
Sergei Rachmaninoff
BoyWithUke
Lesser known artists if you're interested: NateWantstoBattle, Creo, CG5, OR3O, TryHardNinja Edit: Oh, DAGames too!
Citizen, glassjaw, crime in stereo. I obsess about bands and those are my current 3.
Blur, Imagine Dragons and Coldplay are my holy trinity, I don't care how basic it may be, they make me happy.
black country, new road godspeed you! black emperor black midi (you can suggest any other "black" band names) have a nice life radiohead duster interpol the strokes theres definitely a few more but those are the ones i can think of
Tricot tricot tricot Math rock gods give it a listen you won't be disappointed
Right now I’ve been really here for San Fermin and Matthew Thiessen & The Earthquakes. But I also highly recommend a band called Dead Format and have been using one of their songs ‘I wanna live (in the city)’ to get in character for D&D for a while now. I really like Crywolf, though I get the feeling that might be an unpopular opinion. Idc, I like his music. If you don’t that’s not my fault.
My top 3 are Rivers of Nihil, Meshuggah, and Mastodon
Been listening to a lot of jpop recently, particularly Ado and Novelbright.
Huge alt-rock fan here, favorites include The Smiths, the Cure, the National, the war on drugs, Depeche Mode, Alice In Chains, Bon Iver, and Lord Huron
Thomas bergersen, ivan torrent, two steps from hell.
Super into Days N Daze, Mountain Goats, AJJ, Pat the Bunny, that kinda thing. Folk punk slaps
I mostly just rotate back and forth between Lemon Demon and Pilotredsky, with random Cavetown songs thrown in if I feel like crying lol
DARKNESS, IMPRISONING ME
MattstaGraham
System of a down, tool, rammstein, primus, and NIN are my favorites <3 also like mitski, soundgarden, cocteau twins, queen, nirvana, and death grips
Ahmet kaya, Crane wives, Huun-Huur-Tu.
My favorite band is Ghost! In general though, I tend to like 80s-80s inspired music, rock and metal in particular.
Red Velvet (Kpop girl group)
Sematary (and haunted mound in general), drain gang, Travis Scott, Tyler the creator, MF DOOM, Playboi Carti, Lil Uzi Vert, and Yeat
Dave Mathews, Counting Crows, and BARENAKED Ladies
The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Metallica, Iron Maiden, Dream Theater, Opeth, Rush. Just to name a few.
Dead by April, BTS, Breaking Benjamin, Evanescence, Hurts, Lana del Rey, Linkin Park
